TerribleUPDATE: App is not compatible with IOS8. Now totally useless. Developers say it will take a "couple of weeks" to be made IOS8 compatible. When I queried compensation for the paid subscription they said I could have access to the online version. Over 24 hrs later and still awaiting communication telling me how to do this. Do they not understand that papers are delivered daily? --------------------------------------------------------- Persevering with this app as this is the way I now prefer to read my paper, however, persevering is the word. Very buggy and often freezes until an obscure message pops up to tell me something about my "shared secret" doesn't match the one on file. Initial response from Support was to reinstall the app and contact them again if it didn't work. Sent two subsequent emails telling them so but both not times no response. Popup keeps telling me to check the new "Privacy Policy", however, no amount of "agreeing" or "acknowledging" or "OK" ing will make it go away for more than a day. This is despite the policy now being in place for over two and a half months. Overall, a very poor experience which reflects badly on the Courier Mail..Version: 1.10.7

World news is mostly royals?Seriously every second story for world news is Royals! Sorry I don’t care about them! Comments for stories are available on some articles but are heavily moderated. There is no way to know why your comment was rejected, no way to appeal moderators decisions. Amazing that I’m paying to use this site but I can’t contact anyone. Local news stories consist of blood and gore, hit pieces on the state government and puff pieces on the federal government. Incredibly partisan it’s quite unbelievable how bad this paper is. Like others said, news stories are quite old and rarely updated. If you like royals this is for you..Version: 7.27

Insult to readersWe were prepared to put up with this poorly designed app with it's out of date articles, lack of proof reading, intrusive adds, crashes and the inability to read Body & Soul because we wanted to keep up with local news from our home town. However, the latest changes are an insult to readers! Instead of 45 news articles we now get 15, most of which, in today's edition, are international news or are out of date! A lot of other features have disappeared and the app is nothing like the printed edition of the paper. We could not recommend this app to anyone and we will not be renewing our subscription..Version: 1.5.0

FrustratingThe app crashes several times a day and has never been reliable. The paper is sometimes not available to download on wifi before I leave for work at 6am which is not acceptable given the subscription cost. The inserts are often not available for download on the day, particularly for the Sunday Mail. I also have a digital subscription to the Australian newspaper. That mobile app rarely crashes and I rarely have a problem downloading the paper early each morning. The CM app is so disappointing in comparison. The CM really needs to address the issues given a subscription costs $16 a month..Version: 1.9.10

Text is too smallI'm disappointed that I was forced to update to the latest version on my iPad. I read new on my phone quite a lot, but I used to enjoy the pleasure of reading news on my iPad more because the text was bigger. It meant being able to quickly and effortlessly read the news. Now, even with the largest font setting the text is too small. I know I need an updated prescription but since my specialist is in Melbourne this really isn't an option any more. Please fix up the app ASAP so that the font size can genuinely be enlarged. Very disappointed. I doubt this passed accessibility testing..Version: 8.4

Allow paying customers to download the paperWhen Telstra is offering slow internet, the newspaper cannot be downloaded. If an attempt is made to download in the background so you can multitask on your device, when you switch back to the app it relaunches and you start all over again, it’s impossible to view the newspaper. Useless updateI never give bad reviews on anything but this new update on the app has completely broken itself. I now cannot connect to it at all. At first, after the update, I could connect by restarting my ipad now that doesn’t work. Now I am paying for a service I cannot use because of this app. There is no way to contact anyone either other than give a very bad review which is also unacceptable. Please fix this latest update immediately. It has created more bugs than it fixed..Version: 9.2.5

Default doesn’t download “today’s paper” using mobile dataA tip if you’re out and about away from wifi - if you want to download today’s paper to see it as printed (I’m old fashioned like that) using mobile data not wifi, then you need to: 1. Check you’ve enabled mobile data for this app in the usual way in the iOS settings AND 2. Discover that this unintuitive app has an extra setting inside the app itself (unlike most -any? iOS apps I can think of) where you need to enable using mobile data to download today’s paper - if you don’t it throws an error message telling you to visit a “Settings > Dowloads” which of course I assumed was in the iOS settings, not the app’s own settings, because THAT’S WHERE THE MOBILE DATA SETTING IS FOR EVERY OTHER APP. At least maybe change the error message to clarify you’re talking about the in-app settings. Eventually worked it out but seems like unnecessary duplication to have to enable mobile data in two separate places..Version: 7.25

Unreliable (consistently)Over a year later and still absolutely hopeless. Now even the news stories are often stale and the attendance to punter comments is usually unattended. Frustratingly glitchy and unreliable. It used to work great but for many months it has been woeful and the App closes without warning. Even the comments section is no longer intuitive. The IT boffins or their masters need to be in the Centrelink queue. For a professional media App it’s a joke and we are looking at alternatives so we can cancel our subscription. Hands down the most unreliable App on my phone..Version: 9.0.2

Doesn’t live up to its hypeI chose several columnists that I like reading. I can see their articles but not in chronological order. I did not choose sport but still hav3 lots of sport come up in my personalised feed. I get notifications on my iPad about articles I may like I click on them but never get to the article. Either ads or resign in or elsewhere. As a result no benefit over the old one other than it does seem to load more quickly. Now I have issues where I can’t load today’s papers for several days in a row..Version: 8.3

The app is almost as bad as the contentThis is a very fragile app. Sneeze and it freezes. Fail to sing pretty songs to it and it refuses to load. That's just the access to it. I think they may have engaged the year 10 work experience student to edit the online version. Aside from the spelling errors and the failure of the photos to load, there's the word processing errors (lines just stop, mid-sentence) and the grammatical mistakes. Then, of course, there is the fact that the mid-article links to other articles don't work: this is irritating because, aside from the lack of functionality, the links are in the same font as everything else, so before you realise it is a non-functioning link, you have spent a moment trying to figure out why the sentence makes no sense. And since I've paid $7.49 for a month's subscription (well, a month less the 5 days when it has failed to load) I am unsure why I have to put up with advertisements (that said, they only seem to have 1 advertiser, Defence Recruitment I think - like the digital radio station where the only advertiser is "Kimmy's Dad" selling Crimsafe). All of that said, the sudoku and the crosswork (little apps within the app) both seem to work. Someone else must have designed them. Maybe the first year uni work experience student..Version: 1.10.6

Loyalty?I have been a digital subscriber since 2010. I did not complain when the previous app had frequent problems. I did not request my money back recently when the CM had a weeks problems launching the new App. Without any prior notice I find I am expected to pay triple the price . What sort of customer service is this? I have discovered that I can read the digital CM daily through the BCC library and I will source my other news through the free Brisbane Times and Guardian Apps. Perhaps the CM may have been better to acknowledge my loyalty and accept getting $7.49 a month from me rather than nothing..Version: 4.0.2

Want sports news? Too bad you get it anyway!I don’t know how “Based on what you read” 3 out 5 of the top listed ones are articles about sport since I don’t look at ANY sports articles. Why does sport come up in my front screen before real news like “Coronavirus”, “Brisbane” and other topics that are actually news and why can’t I unselect “Sport” completely. Sport is not news to everyone, I don’t care about the stupid behaviour of the latest overpaid footballer, I’d rather know about actual new in Brisbane before I ignore the sports section. Why is it so high on the list if it’s usually at the back of a hard copy newspaper. Please fix this or I’ll be canceling my subscription too..Version: 8.0

Not a good experienceI don’t see how creating a digital format of a newspaper is that difficult! There’s plenty of competition to copy who do better. It’s really hard to keep track of which articles you’ve read. The app refreshes itself and you lose wherever you were in the app. Navigating between sections is difficult being buried in a menu. Articles repeat multiple times. Stories seem to jump different dates within a section. Just simply reproduce your newspaper in a more user friendly way and it’d 1000 times better..Version: 8.2.1

The app lacks good facilitiesWhilst achieving the aim of delivering a newspaper, it fails in many ways.... There is no way to stop the download of unwanted data whilst travelling and using a monthly data limit. Think stopping photos? There is the annoying opinions section that has headings which do not include what is under the heading. And there are items at the end of each that relate to the next heading. Why are we forced to accept constant breaks in sentences to show more white space? Why cannot we have more headings? National, World etc? Why is much of the so called “area” news old and repeated. Why cannot area news be part of the overall news rather than having to dig thru each area to see what is happening across the state. Why are regional areas not covered? Enough! Yes. Time to give us a sound digital version of the Qld newspaper..Version: 7.5

Worse than awful.Why they call it news I have no idea? Articles are left on there for days. Why is the news and latest news showing the same material? The Sunday Mail has 3 people I want to read and I can’t read them through this app. But it kinda goes with the standard of writing. I would rarely think of most of the names as journalists because their writing shows they have no idea what a primary source is. New update failing!Hi, I am extremely disappointed as only a week ago, I could read various articles easily. Now I find I click on an article and it freezes. I have to close it and restart the app. Even then I rarely can read the articles. I am also missing the ability to follow certain things like “cost of living” and certain regional centres on the main page. This is a backwards step. It would also be nice to have a search function to review articles of a certain subject. I hope you can fix these glitches..Version: 9.0.2

Very frustrating reading experienceThis new version is frustrating in the extreme. The screen size is reduced to a third of the original size due to banners at the top and bottom that you cannot remove. If you leave the paper and come back to it later in the day, you aren’t simply taken back to where you were, you have to start all over again! You can no longer take a clipping and email it, there is no index for the sections in the paper (the “view pages” is NOT an index!) I started using this app because I was finding the paper edition difficult to read the small print, it used to be easy to read and navigate the pages. I have also found that when reading top stories, the app will constantly freeze, sometimes for several minutes. The whole reading experience is now so frustrating and most unpleasant. Don't download this!Parts of the newspaper (paper version) are missing, in particular the weekly tv guide on Wednesdays. This app is little more than a downloadable version of their website. A backward stepThe update is frustrating. Change for the sake of it. The previous version was simple enough and worked. The banners across the top were easy. There’s too much stuff. Reading the news is no longer a pleasant experience. It’s not easy or intuitive to use. I couldn’t even find the tab to download the digital paper version this morning. The update makes reading the news an effort, not something that I look forward to, or do out of habit anymore. I certainly don’t just flick on the iPad for a news update as often as previously. Can’t remember the last time I reviewed an app, but I had to say something about this update in the vain hope that it will be sorted out!.Version: 8.0

Get it fixedThe news content is fine if you can work out how to get to it but the most annoying thing is that it automatically jumps from one page to another while in the middle of reading a story on another page. I cannot find a reason why this occurs unless it is programmed to do it. Whenever this occurs there is generally an advertisement for Harvey Norman involved - I am sick of seeing the grinning woman on this Ad every time this problem occurs. If this problem is not rectified then I will cancel my subscription to this newspaper as it is more annoying than the news agent who couldn't follow simple instruction - the reason why I swapped to the Ap in the first place..Version: 1.7.4

Annoyed considering it’s a paid appNo Search function, the comment sections often wig out and your normal text keyboard functions like auto correct don’t work in them. A search function would be handy especially as you read the paper daily and want to follow stories and see updates or return to old stories and need to go to google to find them instead of the app subscription you pay for. You can tell the journos are rushed to get stories out with an array of typos often, again it’s just annoying as you pay for the service. Comment sections are often turned off too especially when you are keen to see the consensus of the public on a matter. Yet on their socials they aren’t turned off. Backward stepToday's (13/7) new "condensed" format - ostensibly to reduce download times - is a cynical ploy to significantly reduce news content while still charging the same. The previous three news sections (local/national/international) - which were just barely adequate anyway - have been cut to just one. But, hey, not to worry - we have extra comic strips!!! ..... I've subscribed since the beginning, but you've now lost me, guys. In this day and age, the digital version should be expanding, not contracting. For the way to do news comprehensively, see the Sydney Morning Herald app (and it's still free!). Regrettably, my morning coverage will be NSW-centric from now on..Version: 1.5.0

Difficult to navigateNew icon. Same rubbish menu system. Half star at best. What is it with the authors of this app? To read sections we have to bring up a side menu from an icon in the bottom right corner, go into a sub menu for local, state, national or world then go through section by section returning each time to the menu to move to the next section. Can’t your software developers, who obviously don’t actually read digital newspapers, get that this is just painful? If you can’t make it continuous by swiping through article by article in the entire paper, at least stick the news menu options across the top so we don’t have to dive into sub menus. Lucky it's freeI paid for home delivery that comes with free digital access. The app is overall hopeless. The newspaper says it's fully downloaded and when I try to view it offline it looks super low resolution. The digital print version is nice and it's the only reason I still keep this app. The special tablet version is atrocious. It has sentences cut off, photos not displaying and the design is outright horrible. The live section is horrific. The weather displayed as current is from an hour ago, the live articles are so bad I'd rather log in online or use the apple news app. My recommendations are to: Make sure the download is actually complete before it says it's complete, refine the tablet version and make the live section as good as the courier mail in apple news. Fine the new update is LESS terrible, as in less sentences cut mid sentence and less lag but it's still worth only 2 starts..Version: 5.0.12

DON’T SUBSCRIBEThe Courier Mail in general is an absolute joke. It feels like I’ve been sucked into a scam as you pay $28 every 4 weeks (not worth it at all in my opinion) and then if you choose to cancel your subscription, you can only do so by calling them during trading hours monday-friday. So as someone who works during those times and can’t even get through to customer service, I am continuing to pay this amount. It’s actually disgusting as it doesn’t seem like they care much for their customers time or finances, just as long as they get their money. It’s messed up how easy they make it to subscribe and how hard it is to unsubscribe..Version: 8.7.2

I normally don't leave reviews but..Republishing this review with the new update simply because I find this app and these developers so annoying: I just can't let this one go without letting people know how horrible this app is. There is no retina support despite the retina screen being in the last two iterations of the iPad. It is still slow and laggy with a horrible user interface that must have been designed by a team of monkeys. I won't be getting a subscription with this until this app has a major overhaul. Will get my news for free off the Internet. Can't believe these developers still have jobs..Version: 1.8.1

Heavy on checkinsI have reduced the number of ‘points of interest’ that concern me as the resulting number of email messages was a flood. The real problem is that when I do respond to an email alert the web page reached is a teaser and I need to login each time. Add to that some problem with using my stored password and it is not a good experience. After experiencing smooth service from the WSJ online in my working years and few problems with my ‘Australian’ cover these days I think the setup needs attention. Firewalls are understandable but the subscribers need to be serviced smoothly..Version: 8.4

Update is useless - would give zero if I couldYou used to be able to download the ‘print edition’then view it offline but it appears you need to have an internet connection now to view the print edition. Secondly the print edition used to fill the whole screen to the page, now there’s a banner across the top and bottom that you cannot remove so you get a smaller view of the page. Thirdly, when you double tapped before it would zoom to where you had tapped, now when you double tap it zooms to the top left hand corner regardless of where you tap..Version: 8.4

What a letdownWhat a poor app from such a prestigious news group. I need to filter the news topics I want to read. I don’t think sport deserves the front and center of any page. The layout lacks continuity and we find ourselves just pecking around hoping we stumble on an interesting topic. My first reaction was to cancel my subscription and rely on TV news again however I have decided to wait a few weeks to see if anything changes first. Persistent Wi-Fi ProblemsThis app is ok when it works. But they REALLY need to fix the wifi problem. Frequently at home it tells me I can’t download and read the days paper because I’m not connected to wifi, when I am connected. So I have to disconnect from my home wifi then reconnect to make it work. If I’m out and not connected to wifi it will NOT let me download and read the paper using mobile data. It tells me I have to let it use mobile data. I’ve already done that and it still doesn’t work. Very frustrating, very disappointed……….Version: 7.27

The February 2024 app update is terrible.This is my first ever review of an app. That’s how bad this app update is. While the scrolling part of the app is ok, the reading experience for the digital paper is terrible. I have played with the various settings but still can’t get the paper to display the full page (without having to manually adjust the screen). Navigating to the next page is hopeless and doesn’t always work. Most times I have to tap/swipe twice. This app has always been average, now it’s terrible..Version: 9.2.5

DreadfulSince iOS 8 came out, the application has failed to work. The updated app from the Courier Mail still does not work. Asks you to log in with your iTunes account to restore subscription. App will not recognise iTunes password. iTunes password works everywhere else. iTunes and Apple say not there problem as password and account works. Courier states not their issue and we should not have updated to iOS 8. Still half a month of subscription to go with no paper and no support. Not happy with this useless app at all. I have contacted the Courier Mail support several times with no further responses. They are happy to take your money and provide nothing in return. I think it is time for the Department of Fair Trading to investigate..Version: 4.0.2

Unreliable & takes 20 mins to downloadThere isn't a week goes by that the paper version is available for the seven days & always a quick excuse offered as to why they can't deliver, the latest is an email comes saying the paper is now available to upload manually, however to do so you need to delete the app & reinstall losing any saved editions. BRILLIANT!!! There appears to be a team of full time staff to handle complaints who send the same excuses for each days failures & no one to resolve them. Slow, sluggish and surprisingly little news in this garbage appI have given this app a good trial making the most of the free trial period. Unfortunately the poor build makes it sluggish and limited amount of news available on it makes it a complete waste of time. The print edition of the Courier Mail is known for its limited news and preference to rely on news feeds around the world, but this ipad app does not even come with a Queensland news section. Saturday's edition had as its main headline "Your stars for the week" with some fat guy with a beard prominently displayed. It then followed with world news about disasters fires and floods. If you live in Queensland you would find out more news by sticking your head out the winder. News Limited should seriously scrap its online paid content model if it thinks this is going to be a revenue stream. Poorly executed, woefully designed garbage. Avoid at all cost. Update or Breaking NewsWhen I open up my personal selections the details on each section are mostly outdated, days old news often repeated in other sections… hardly updated to current status. Despite selecting my own suburb as Local it often covers items from other States. Similarly in the Sports sections which rarely cover what is expected - for instance Rugby is selected but contains so much NRL news; other examples are with the GPS section containing anything but, and more often than not what is shown is months out of date! Overall very poor management..Version: 9.2.3

Very Slow AppThis app is far too slow. It can take more than a minute to download the stories. Not user friendly - particularly given the cost. Then you find out you have to resubscribe..Version: 1.5.0

Pathetic attemptThis app gets worse by the day. It is digital, why are pages of racing in the middle, cutting stories in half? Why does it cut off the bottom of the page? Why when you put it down for a while does it revert to page 1? Why? Don’t you have an app developer? You can’t even unsubscribe online, you have to telephone and wait for ages. Why? This is 2022. UPDATE This is now 2023, bottom of pages still cut off. Still racing in the middle, so annoying. Still can't unsubscribe online. Honestly you can do better..Version: 9.1.1

Appalling app, and it’s not even free to accessMost articles take such a long time to load its as if my wifi has stopped working (it hasn’t; I tested it). Most of the time I am obliged to abandon trying to read them. There are adverts in the middle of articles that actually cover up some of the text in the article! This in itself is unacceptable, but… WHY AM I SEEING ADVERTS IN AN APP THAT I HAVE PAID FOR??? Also, the comments section has recently been very hard to type in, like it’s treating typed text as if it’s a password or something. Guys! Please fix this appI thought that before I just go and write a review I would try to log a bug with the app developer. Should be simple hey... Find the app in the App Store and click on report a bug. Did that and was taken to couriermail web page with a whole lot of ads and I couldn't easily see how to report a bug hence I will have to do it via this review. First thing to fix is to have a simple feedback system whereby end users can report bugs. Secondly, when this app first came out it was easy to navigate and was fairly stable. Then the new version came out and it is a shocker. Hard to navigate around but the biggest issue is it simply keeps crashing. Guys, can you fix this pleas or the courier mail will lose customers. I am using an old iPad 2 on IOS 8.x. Have guys tested on that platform? Have you tested at all? It would be good for you guys to respond to these reviews as you can see that I am not the only one complaining..Version: 4.0.6

Most annoying app I haveThis is the most annoying app I have on my iPad. When reading the comments, up to about 23 of 45 and you inadvertently tap outside the comment panel it just closes and then you have to click comments again and scroll all the way back to where you were. So frustrating. Not surprised it has a rating of only 1.3, do you even care, it seems not as it’s had such a low rating for a very long time. After the delivery issues this is the last straw, sick of it so I will be cancelling my subscription..Version: 9.0.9

Awful!The updated version is awful. It reduces the amount of the newspaper that is visible on my iPad with the two white borders that run across the top and bottom of the screen. Previously if I wanted to open an article out of the paper there was a specific highlighted area to click on - that worked well. And then you changed it. Now if I accidentally touch an article - it opens up the article so I’m constantly having to close articles that I don’t want to read..Version: 8.5

Out of date NewsThe quality of the news in this app is low and generally out of date. Prior to the Olympics the site offered some additional news levels separating stories into local, national and world news. This was removed to allow for the games and has not been reinstated. The Courier Mail is missing a great opportunity to provide the very latest news. Business articles are often at least a day out of date and sporting achievements are largely limited to Rugby League. I have persevered for long enough and will not be renewing again..Version: 1.5.0

App not workingI’ve had a subscription for many many years. Considering canceling. The app is ok for reading the newspaper as it appears in the print version but the regularly updated digital edition does not work as of recent times. You click on an article from front page and it comes up blank then freezes. You have to quit the app then. I’ve tried recommendations in the FAQ, switched on/off iPad, deleted and reinstalled app etc. I’ve contact paper by email, no response. 😠.Version: 9.0.3
