PocketGrib for Positive User Reviews

Great appUpdate: App keeps getting better! Like the alternate models, although GFS still my favorite. Tried some other grib apps but this one works best for me. A little bit easier/quicker access to parameter options is all it needs. Developer has been great in answering my questions too. PocketGrib is a great app for anyone interested in weather and weather forecasting , NOT just boaters. Lots of info presented in a user friendly manner. Highly recommended..Version: 1.0.8

Keen sailorFantastic app thats really good. Used it for planning 600 nm of sailing in changeable weather over 5 weeks and the accuracy was fantastic. Highly recommend I would not go sailing without it.Version: 1.0.9

ExcellentI have used this for inland sailing (lake Tahoe) and found it to be accurate and easy to use. Cannot comment on ocean applications yet, although the interface seems to simply make grib files accessible and easy to use / translate into usable info. Pulls small files packed with info so bandwidth / data charges not a huge issue..Version: 1.1.3

Pocket gribEasy grib handling package with good display..Version: 1.1.9

Captain Andrew GardinerPocket grib is great! I have used it for the last 30,000 nm, from New Zealand to Hawaii to Alaska and now to the Med via Panama! Brilliant!.Version: 1.0.10

First app I checkThis app gives so much info with a very simple display. This is the first app I check when deciding when to take the boat out. While I am on the water I make it part of my routine to check the app to see what to expect in the following hours and days. This is one of my must have apps to go sailing with..Version: 1.2.11

StorytellerSimple and easy to use in multiple locations. The best I have found! Helps us plan our week wherever we are in the world..Version: 1.0.10

ExcellentI have used ugrib on a pc for a number of years and was delighted to find this app which is just as reliable and gives ago of overview of pressure, wind and precipitation a great app for sailing wouldn't be without it.Version: 1.0.10

Love weather love this appComprehensive meteorological data for the world. Cut out the smiley weather personalities and access the raw data. Use it all over the uk and recently on holiday. See the long term data the weather forecasts don't mention as to preoccupied with not being wrong. Awesome..Version: 1.1.3

Great appBeen using this for several years and have found it invaluable..Version: 1.2.10

Easy to use and accurateI’ve been using this App for several years. I find it easy to use, it’s intuitive design makes it so, it’s about 90% accurate..Version: 1.2.11

Captain DotMy husband and I use Pocket Grib on both iPhone and iPad. It helped us enormously just yesterday with the timing of wind changes associated with a gale force cold front, enabling us to navigate to a safe harbor in time. We use it all the time. Easy to use, don't set sail without it!.Version: 1.1.10

Cruise planningI use this app to plan cruises on my sailboat from Maine to North Carolina, but plan on using it to Florida and beyond. The combination of wind and sea state forecasts, along with the other information, is perfect in deciding when to depart especially due to the multi-day presentation..Version: 1.1.1

Great app I plan my field work byI do a lot of night time boat work where I need conditions of 12-20 knot winds, cloud cover and high humidity or rain/snow so this app helps me plan my nights out. It has been quite accurate in its forecasts including wind direction. I think it is a 4 1/2 star app already but I'd give it five stars if they added a link to see actual current weather conditions for an area. All in all a great app I rely on heavily..Version: 1.0.9

Perfect grib appThis app is exactly what we've been looking for. You can download directly from NOAA so no cumbersome downloading to email and then saving and opening. We've been looking for a weather app with the surface isobar prog charts and this app has it. It's easy to use and highly intuitive. Easily accessible onscreen buttons for every bit of info you want. Fast downloads even over slow WiFi. Worth every penny of the $5.99.Version: 1.1.10

Great program, quick to loadPocketGrib uses the GFS model (US source). Nothing fancy, quick to load, easy to interpret..Version: 1.2.11

Sailing with pocketgribWe left Florida for the Bahamas Jan 2013 for our first out of the country winter cruise. The Bahama Telephone company (Batelco) offers spotty service around the islands. Using Pocketgrib for quick weather updates when we had a signal became very important to us. We found Pocketgrib to be essential. S/V Mardi Gras.Version: 1.1.10

ExcellentEssential.Version: 1.2.2

Almost perfectSail all over the Med and down to the Canary Islands, this app has been very handy, however wind strength is vert often underestimated and when looking at sailing bigger distances, would be nice to move through time scale quickly without time scale covering the chart. Otherwise very good and very handy for traveling yachtie.Version: 1.1.2

Pocket GribMy wife and I have just completed a 10 week cruise from the Chesapeake Bay to Maine and back. Although we had the NOAA weather broadcasts and other sources of weather data, Pocket Grib was our primary source for weather forecasting. It was generally "spot on" with its forecast and the display is elegant. A terrific amount of data in an easy to understand format..Version: 1.1.2

A clear winnerCustomisable weather grib data easily downloaded presented in a clear map overlay format. An excellent app that I tend to use more more on my iPhone and iPad in preference to other weather apps..Version: 1.0.9

WHAT AN APPI use it almost every day and find it to be very accurate....I love it even more when we are sailing....I have several apps but this one helps me predict & forecast what to expect on the water..Version: 1.1.5

A simple and bulletproof appI have used this all summer cruising in The Baltic and arctic Norway. I have found it excellent for cruise planning, weather routing and also for reading iridium-downloaded gribs..Version: 1.0.10

SuperbExcellent tool for plotting your sail, local forecasts don't have the same detail. I find that the GRIB reflects the real conditions very well, often the local forecast can be way out on wind strengths..Version: 1.1.7

Great appExcellent app for boating. Great support from developer..Version: 1.0.10

Just what I've been looking forI love photographing waterfalls….which means I need cloud cover, little to no rain, and calm winds. I also need to see far enough into the future to plan a trip. This app is perfect, gives me easy access to both a graph representation of what I'm interested in (well into the future) as well as an actual map with all the visuals you need to help make a good decision. Bravo!.Version: 1.1.1

Pocket gribUsed grib across the Pacific. Excellent information and quite accurate..Version: 1.0.10

Pocket gribA clear visual representation of predicted wind for the next few days makes day sails or short passages much easier to plan with confidence..Version: 1.1.10

A quick and real beneficial guideFrom its initial guise this app has developed well. I use it constantly whether on land or at sea. It is a quick view into trends and indications. Graphics are clear. Regional downloads quick simple and efficient. The add on also help to give information to users. I have been very pleased with this app from the start and it continues to develop well..Version: 1.1.6

JohnI have used your regular Grip application for a few years now and find it very helpful. Of you could find a way to add a route onto the files that would help in planning a long passage. We are in Fiji now and planning a voyage to Hawaii and the ability to place a route or your files would be a great benefit. Thanks John.Version: 1.1.7

Best wind app... PeriodI have four other wind prediction apps that i use mostly for BASE and power kiting. I never trust one but average out between all of them to make an educated guess. This app is the most accurate on average and is the easiest and most user friendly. If you get one wind app this is the only one to consider..Version: 1.1.7

SailorExcellent, easy to use, well designed.Version: 1.0.10

A GREAT app! This does a wonderful job of displaying the weather forecast hour by hour. While it is designed for sailors with low bandwidth high cost communications it also works those of of with cheap hi bandwidth networks on land..Version: 1.2.9

My favourite weather appI use this app all the time. We're sailing around the world on our yacht and find this the most convenient weather app..Version: 1.1.7

Excellent AppUse it all the time when planning & sailing North Sea and Biscay. Useful for seeing what's coming in the days ahead not only locally but also the bigger picture. As with any forecasting method I compare results with others, if they all agree yippee!.Version: 1.2.6

ExcellentAs a Super yacht captain who works around the world I tend to source weather from at least three providers including pro weather routers. The Ugrib model compliments the others sources (as they do it). A key advantage is the scaleable overview that can be drilled down to a local area or expanded to an ocean. This is no new idea and isn't as sophisticated as subscription models but for a free program it's the dog's ---. The Metadata pages are very well thought out and show trends clearly which is very useful for go or no-go decision making meetings Ugrib is reliable, informative and simple - cant be bad..Version: 1.1.3

OkGood. But only 2 grib sources now. Was better before..Version: 1.1.7

One of the very best apps.Brilliant for sailors and useful for those on land. My only wish is the ability to save the download so it can be seen when off line..Version: 1.0.8

AwesomeIf you have any desire to know what the winds going to be doing this is the app! Very accurate and gives play by play of wind speed & direction along with much more data. I use it to advise marine users of potential winds over next 48 hrs. It is important that we issue the correct information to the port users as it may affect the safety. We have in the past always compare PocketGrib with other PC Web based links and PocketGrib provides the great accuracy ! Great tool to add to your cache!.Version: 1.1.9

Great app.Fantastic program, easy to use and could not imagine going cruising without it. 5 stars.Version: 1.1.1

The bestAs a Yacht Captain I rely on this app to get all the weather forecasting I need to predict the possibility of safe passages..Version: 1.2.11

ExcellentAccurate, inexpensive and easy to use. Service also excellent with quick email responses when I had a couple of queries on set up. This has replaced Windguru on my iPad. Great stuff :-).Version: 1.0.9

Finally...Amongst the plethora of weather apps someone has finally written a sensible one for those of us who spend our time outside, and particularly on the water. This has quickly become indispensable for me as I move my yacht up and down the east coast..Version: 1.0.5

The bestUsed multiple sources while sailing up and down coast of california, got this app half way through a trip and found it to be easy to use and extremely accurate. I place more weight on this app than the others I use. Highly recommend..Version: 1.1.3

Super appSimple and fantastic. Mark an area on a chart. Download. Couldn't be easier. Standard GRIB format. Move cursor to a spot and gives more detailed data. Data refresh fast..Version: 1.1.7

Single sourceGreat source for information on frontal and trade winds. Easy to use and read. Be wary that this has no capability to account for local anomalies however, and consult forecasts based on other models as well..Version: 1.1.7

One of the best ...I sail the sea of Cortez and have tried many different apps for reading Grib files. This is one of the best. I would love to see this ported to Windows though. Thanks for an excellent program!.Version: 1.0.8

Maybe the best GRIB file viewer yet.I like Pocket Grib as it displays all the information, especially winds & waves at the same time. It can be as detailed as you wish and you can scroll through the 5 (or 8) days with the same interval. It is simple to use and well worth the $8, which covers both your iPhone and iPad..Version: 1.2.9

Really good Marine Weather AppHave used in UK and Greece and found it very handy and easy to use, seems to do everything I want, much quicker to use than laptop USGrib. Encourages you to make additional checks before sailing. Does what it says it does.Version: 1.1.7

Surfing and sailingGreat app..spot on!! I start and end my day with this app!!! Harry.Version: 1.0.9

YandanookaWe've been using this app for just a couple of months and have found it quite accurate and very easy to use. Highly recommended. Yandanooka..Version: 1.1.7

Great AppThis tool is very helpful for downloading weather anytime, anywhere. I love the flexibility of being able to look at large and small areas. It loads the gribs really quickly!.Version: 1.0.10

Great for Planning Hiking TripsLets you see the weather in detail for a specific location. In my experience, it’s predictions are accurate..Version: 1.2.11

So helpful so farWe have used pocket grub daily for route and timing planning. Only disappointment so far has been the lack of updated data for checking last minute before early morning departures . Otherwise easy to use, smooth animation and clear graphics..Version: 1.1.10

Sailors delight!Great weather data for the place I am now and every place I want to be! Real time, comprehensive data with forecasts for 8 days mean trip planning is a snitch. Changed my sailing life overnight!.Version: 1.0.5

Excellent Weather Forcasting AppThe best Weather Forecasting App I have use. Works particularly well in poor mobile signal area.Version: 1.2.11

Furthest northExcellent sailing addition. Really useful and easy to use. So far been spot on and reliable. Just what is needed when you are single handing and this far north. I recommend it highly..Version: 1.1.7

Great weather toolI use this app all the time! Thanks for making it!.Version: 1.2.11

FlybouysUse this app all the time to predict sailing conditions. Has been accurate several days out helping with future sail plans. Do miss the Google maps for the weather overlays, but the data is still very good..Version: 1.1.2

Excellent appCan't fault it, regular updates and great support.Version: 1.1.10

UtilisationIl doit y avoir un problème avant on avait le vent, vague, hauteur de vague, etc.maintenant flèche jaune et position..Version: 1.2.11

Best predictive weather app!We use Pocket GRIB for immediate, short & long term conditions of regattas (sailing races), navigation, hurricane information, wave height, wind speeds & also for general all around weather information. we also use PocketGrib as an indispensable tool when coaching & teaching sailors - 5 stars! side note: even though this app might look like it is not for everybody, PocketGrib makes it easy to use. it uses your requested meteorologic data via gridded binaries (GRIB) & displays this data in various forms, wind speed, wave height, rain, temperature...via maps, charts... take the time to play around with Pocket GRIB, learn it & you'll never go back to wimpy general use weather apps. :).Version: 1.2.2

If only the Mac had a GRIB viewer this goodI can't imagine sailing without this program. It works so intuitively I don't even think about using it, I just do & get to concentrate on the weather, not the program. GRIBs are amazing and this program allows me to be able to harness their power! Update 20 Feb 16 - We have been using PocketGrib as live aboard cruisers for almost 2 years now. My wife now has it on her iPhone, & I have it on my iPads & iPhone. We use it nearly every day, and can not imagine Cruising from Boston Harbor to Great Exuma Island without it! Our Lagoon 420's mast is over 65', so we can not use the ICW & must go offshore, where we sail for up to 7 days without sight of land. My only PocketGrib complaint is that I wish it would work with my GlobalStar 9000 Satellite Phone WiFi router, or even Iridium Go (although I don't yet have that). Then we could get the latest GRIBs into our PocketGrib when we are over 20 nm offshore & out of cell phone range. Since we are usually well beyond 20 nm offshore for most of our offshore cruise, getting the latest GRIBs into our PocketGrib would be very valuable to us as GRIBs become less accurate with age..Version: 1.2.9

Shining lightA very easy way to use grib files.Version: 1.2.2

Works GreatI use it for boating but it is useful for anyone that understands Grib files and wants to check the NOAA models..Version: 1.2.11

Pocket GRIBOne of the best weather apps out there!! I'm a confirmed weather geek and have used a GRIB viewer program on a laptop for years. While this one is more limited than my PC version, the portability and speedy downloads due to the small file size required more than make up for the limited capabilities. Highly recommended..Version: 1.1.3

Landlubber former blue water sailor: A+As a, regrettably, landlocked former blue water sailor; I became reliant on GRIB files and learned how to interpret them. Now I tire of the conflicting forecasts from local media and the myriad of wearer apps available. Seeing the data and formulating my own forecast gives me a better view into the weather window, but also reminds me that everything is open for interpretation. This app gives me exactly what I need to come to my own conclusions as well as provide quick guidance built-in. I also like using it to teach my 8 year-old son about the weather and how to look at projected data and how to interpret what he sees. Keep it up!.Version: 1.1.7

Grin appSuper app for sailers. Wouldn't be without..Version: 1.0.10

Great tool for yachtiesGet it - it is a Great and easy to use app. Forecast info can be wrong, but so can all the other forecast systems..Version: 1.1.7

It works.Quite simply, this App is excellent. The App itself works in a very practice way. The information is presented well and most importantly is of good quality. Don't hesitate to get it and soon it will be your main weather App..Version: 1.1.3

DirectorPocket grib is a great tool for ocean passage and extended coastal passage making. Using the GFS grib information it closely mirrors the info we can obtain through saildocs while out of Internet coverage at sea. The format works well and is user friendly. We recommend Pocket Grib to all our members. John & Lyn Martin Directors Island Cruising Assoc Www.islandcruising.co.nz.Version: 1.1.7

Great for marinersWhat an awesome app for marine weather; air pressure and wind direction. The files are small and quick to download. Is there some way you folks can link this excellent app through shortwave radio for offshore sailors? Highly recomended..Version: 1.1.3

The bestThis is by far the best Grip app. It's ease of use. It's clarity. It's presentation. Downloads fast when at sea. So many features, you have control over everything..Version: 1.2.10

Vessel MasterI used this app in the Persian Gulf for months and it always gave accurate wind predictions for both velocity and direction. I've also used it on the US east coast and it works well here too. The map is simple to use: just size it to the region you want winds for and hit download. Click play once the file is loaded and watch the winds. Too easy. I use it every time I get underway..Version: 1.0.9

Good appThis app does what it says on the tin. It displays grib files in a simple, effective manner overlaid on nicely detailed mapping. The size of the grib files are small, leaking them quick to download and display. I've used a variety of grib viewers over time and this one is amongst the best..Version: 1.1.5

The sailors friendGreat simple App a must for yachties.Version: 1.1.5

Caribbean sailingI find this app excellent for reviewing passage weather info around the Caribbean Islands. It is particularly helpful that the app retains the info as we are often away from wi-fi coverage. The information which I believe is gathered from NOAA generally understates wind values by 10-15 per cent. Many thanks for a great app!.Version: 1.0.8

First classLovely app. Robust, richly functional, easy to use and elegantly designed. The few reviewers who state that better free apps exist must live on another planet. Several reviews drop a star because wind strength seems underestimated - that of course is NOT a fault in the app, which "just" selects, downloads and displays the output of published forecast models. I and many long term users of GFS data (pocketgrib's default source) have for years taken view that you sometimes need to add a force when the model is in the 4-6 range, incidentally. It's a great tribute to this app that it's peoples first experience of using model output data directly, I think!!.Version: 1.1.5

Excellent AppI'm a professional mariner and this app is flawless. Amazing value for money, especially given the cost of some desktop GRIB software. Fast, stable, intuitive to use. Even if you don't work on the water, this app brings you a whole new level of weather info, far superior to the smiley symbols of most weather apps. If you have access to an accurate barometer, or even better, a barograph, you can combine that information with the PocketGrib info to follow & predict the passage of fronts & troughs etc. One feature which would be really nice to see included is the ability to export meteograms and/or data displays for printing, maybe as PDF? Outstanding stuff, kudos to the developer..Version: 1.0.8

Well worth it.Great app. I use it on an iPad and found it very convenient when cruising Med and Croatia recently. It is overlayed on a Google map type background. You can get GRIBs many ways but this is small in size, fast to download and cheap to buy. I love it. Tell your friends..Version: 1.0.5

ExcellentExcellent for maritime coastal weather watchers such as boaties and possibly surfos. As a sailor I wouldn't be without it. I might add that support for the App is outstanding and prompt..Version: 1.1.3

BrillOther reviews have said it all, but what I like best is the ability to download a grib file to my Itouch using wifi in a bar in Spain then upload it to my PC in the anchorage to view on the big screen..Version: 1.1.5

Weather assistanceExcellent app .. Simple to view and easy to operate... A must for any water related activity...Version: 1.1.3

Phenomenal app!The developer has always been very responsive, and the app has helped better target possible severe storms for me a lot. Highly recommend this app if you want a detailed idea of what the weather might be up to!.Version: 1.0.10

MrA practical and useful App..Version: 1.1.3

Pocket GribbWe have used this in conjunction with NOAA weather and it has been pretty accurate when checked with current conditions. I would caution as it is only good out about 36-48 hours..Version: 1.1.7

Best grib viewerExcellent app. I'm a pro sailor and use this app all the time for quick info. Dead easy to use and provides first class data with very easy to use dashboard..Version: 1.0.9

ClayI have been using grib programs for years; this is by far the best one I have ever used and it is very simple and straightforward. It provides loads of information. I would rate it right at the top of the whole category of weather apps..Version: 1.1.3

ExcellentApp works very well, top notch developer! Simple grib data selection and download. Clear weather map display. The forecast data is well, 'forecast' so use several sources to build a picture..Version: 1.0.10

Best weather app to dateThis is one amazing app! I frequent the inshore and off shore waters of the US east coast and this app far exceeds existing weather prediction tools I have found, in accuracy, ease of use, and most importantly to me, predicting wind speed direction by hour. I don't leave the dock without it..Version: 1.0.8

Simply brilliant! Thank you.Was told about this app by a friend just before taking my new boat on a maiden voyage from l'Aber Benoit through the Chenal du Four and on to Douarnenez. Finding a favourable weather window was absolutely essential and this app enabled us to do this. Simplicity itself to set up and use. The one small problem I encountered was sorted out very quickly by re-installing the app. Backup is excellent - I e-mailed for advice and received a very helpful and friendly reply within 24 hours. I have been using it for about ten days now and the accuracy of prediction has been very impressive over three days and reasonably good over five. You can show as little or as much data on a chart as you want. I particularly like the the ability to show wind direction and wave direction at the same time as these are not always the same and for anyone sailing being able to see when there are differences and what these are is very helpful. It also gives very good predictions for height of swell, also extremely useful. Anyone who sails will find this app indispensable - far superior to wind guru and well worth spending the very reasonable £3 odd charged. Wouldn't be without it..Version: 1.1.7

CliveI found this a very helpful app. whilst sailing the West Country. In particular it downloaded new files quickly and more often than other apps when the signal was weak..Version: 1.1.7

ExcellentIt would be even better if you could plot your position (of the boat) projected for the next 1 2 3 days so that you will easily see the weather conditions during a crossing. But very satisfied..Version: 1.1.7

Pocket GribWe have been using this app for many years now in many different parts of the world during a circumnavigation. Generally it is accurate for a 5 day forecast, with the normal caveats when land can effect wind direction and strength..Version: 1.2.11

Sailing weatherI am very fortunate in owning a sailing boat, a Nicolsen 26, and even more fortunate in having good health to enjoy sailing. I sail mostly in the Irish sea and the west coast of Scotland area, Occasionally single handed. It is of the upmost importance that I have reliable weather information before and during a passage. I find this app gives me a good, reliable picture of conditions ,especially areas of low pressure and their tracks, which makes decision making a lot easier and sailing much more enjoyable. I absolutely recommend this app to all persons interested in sailing in the smaller vessels. Thank you. G.R. Eldridge..Version: 1.0.10

Great weather App for boatersGreat weather app for boaters and doesn’t use huge chunks of data. Very data efficient (although there are other apps out there which are specifically designed to use even less data if you are intending to use Iridium satellite phone). Highly recommend this app for Cell and WiFi use..Version: 1.2.11

Simple and accurateWhile other apps may be more graphic and engaging, I like the simplicity of PocketGrib. Nothing tricky...just the data I need..Version: 1.2.11

Really good, easy to use app.I have used this app for years. When I think about a passage I go here to check the conditions I will encounter. Easy to use. High on my list of really good apps..Version: 1.2.11

Spot on appGreat app and spot on for marine weather especially during Cyclone season..Version: 1.1.5

PocketGribThis is an excellent App. I used it recently on a sail from Gibraltar to Scotland. It's easy to use, and pretty accurate, although perhaps underestimating the wind strength at times. It's therefore well worth using its info in conjunction with a "normal" synoptic chart. We were able to plan our route from N Spain to Ireland to take best advantage of a wind shift on our third day out, which was forecast perfectly. Having gained confidence in the App, we again adjusted our final leg to Scotland to take advantage of forecast wind shift, and scored again.. Thank you for a most useful App..Version: 1.1.7

Very good app for boatiesExcellent and simple to use app for planning go or no go boat trips. Highly recommended. BG.Version: 1.1.7

Quick easy and accurateI know all GRIB data is the same, but this quick n easy app presents it in a clear flexible way... Sometimes a little slower on the iPhone than iPad to prepare for download. A must for any sailor and anyone else interested in weather patterns..Version: 1.1.7

Top notchExcellent grib display. This app is top notch. Well worth loading..Version: 1.1.7

PocketgribExcellent, very easy to use and instant weather forecast, both on iPad and iPhone.Version: 1.0.9

BrilliantSince discovering the grib files I have found planning my sailing trips so much easier. The pocket grib just enhances this ability so that I can continue to watch the weather a week ahead. I have found the wind speeds slightly on the low side, but I now make allowances for this and it seems to work well..Version: 1.1.7

First ClassYou can't beat this app for weather forecasts. It's updated every 6 hours and is by far the most accurate forecast tool on the market. Any boater would be a mug not to have this little gem tucked away in their arsenal of weather tools..Version: 1.1.4

I am a sailor, this app really works for meSpend a little time learning the features and this app will become your first choice for passage planning. You will find that you can minimize the download file size by selecting the area you are interested in, the parameters you want to see, and the number of days that are of interest..Version: 1.2.10

The Best GRIB viewer. Best Weather Forecaster/PlannerI have spent a lot of time looking for the best GRIB viewer for PC, MAC and IPAD. PocketGrib is easily the best. If online then very easy to select the map location and the parameters for the weather you want. If offline then download (satphone) the Grib via Saildocs email service to computer and transfer to PocketGrib on ipad/iPhone via iTunes. The animation is great as are the metrogram and data pages. I have not found any other Grib viewer to be so complete and user friendly. EXCELLENT!!!.Version: 1.1.7

PocketGribAbout the best long range weather forecast I’ve ever used I would say 90 percent accurate Forty plus years on the North Atlantic.Version: 1.2.11

Excellent App for sailorsMy husband and I are sailing around the world and halfway round we discovered Pocket GRIBBs. They so user friendly and accurate. The visuals are easy to see and to understand. We now use them whenever we have wifi. They will help us get around the Cape of Good Hope safely..Version: 1.1.9

Fairly accurateI started using during our trip from Florida to the Bahamas. Accurate about 85% of the time..Version: 1.1.7

Very good appThis is an essential app for competitive & cruising sailors. Easy to use & clear information..Version: 1.1.4

Fair winds and a following breezeThis app really gives me the details I am looking for when the forecast is vague... Especially where and when the weather will be worst or best... I like the wind forecast best to pick my sailing times and direction... Fair winds and a following breeze..Version: 1.1.6

Great appEasy to use, works great. I love it. I use it all the time when at sea or planning a crossing. Would be nice if sea state was included..Version: 1.2.10

Every ocean sailor with an iPhone should have this appThis is a great tool to view weather forecast information from GRIB data. Easy to understand and well presented graphics. An advanced weather tool at a bargain price!.Version: 1.0.5

PocketGribA really useful app for a quick review of the likely wind over the course of the yacht and dinghy races I take part in. Of course it's only as accurate as it's source data but that seems pretty good and certainly gives the sailor a good idea of the likely trends through the period of a race or regatta. Recommended!.Version: 1.1.7

GeoTaxiYes, am a taxi driver and I find pocket grib outstanding for predicting rain showers amongst other weather types for anticipated business spikes! As accurate as could be expected up to 3 days, and sometimes more! The graphics are all very succulent even on the iPhone, and if you're like me, always interested in isobar charts and weather types before the app came about, then even more so you will marvel at it's capability. Tremendous!.Version: 1.0.8

Great App works wellDoes a good job with accurate info..Version: 1.1.3

Love itBeen using it for years, love it..Version: 1.2.11

PocketgribVery good App. It makes for another good little tool to add to your prep before going to sea. Download feature is good for west coast of Scotland when signal drops. Three views by map, data and graph are all good. forecasts can be at odds to other apps and Met Office so confirms this as a good 'information builder' Highly recommended..Version: 1.0.10

Superb AppReally very easy to use. Stores grab files so you can refer back when offline offshore. I have used for years and will continue to do so..Version: 1.2.10

Stable and functionalApp will open and display grib files ordered through Sailmail, provided the sailmail account is POP'd into the iPad mail app. One feature I would like to see is the ability to change the colours of the wind barbs. The current colours can be a little difficult to see. The monochrome setting works, but colours are nicer..Version: 1.1.7

1000 miles completedWe've just travelled from Slovenia to Turkey approx 1000nm. W used Pocket Grib all the way and it was very accurate for direction, maybe underestimated the wind speed a little (that could be the US Weather system) . Overall easy to use and we are impressed with interface day or night. Well done Pocket Grib.Version: 1.1.6

Unique and powerfulDown loading the graphed forecast data is extremely valuable . How do you collect the raw data? The wind map is also great, same question. With my weather station I find the prediction good to fair. Improve the graph graphics, could expand ? Keep up the great work. The biometric pressure graph is a WOW. My first choice for forecast . What is the red line.? Put time on top and bottom..Version: 1.1.5

Rocks! At last! An App for Kiteboarders that allows accurate advanced planning for those perfect riding days. Thank You! Perfect in execution and simplicity. 5-stars! I have already paid for the App in saved fuel..Version: 1.1.10

Weather for the mariner.I have used 'pocketgrib' now for two years. I still copy gribs when deep sea via the HAM network and fax charts from Norfolk Virginia. However when coastal and can get 3G or internet, 'pocketgrib' is great. Also last year was able to copy gribs on a daily basis and guide a solo transatlantic sailor around the worst of the weather by e-mailing the reports to him by HAM radio. The last part of his trip was threatened by Hurricane Albert and entering the Gulf Stream was a nightmare for him. However with 'pocketgrib' files I was able to give him considerably more info than he could get himself on board his yacht. As a pilot I also use 'pocketgrib' to supplement weather information from environment Canada and other sources when planning flights. The ability to pick any area of the world and get forecasts is fantastic. I sailed around the word in 1974-1979 using but a sextant and timepiece. My how the world has changed for the mariner and aviator. GPS and 'pocketgrib' have made both pursuits safer and easier. Thank you Pocketgrib! Chris Law. Cape Breton Island, NS. Canada..Version: 1.2.5

Good source of infoI had a little trouble learning the app, but now it is a great source of weather info. We live on our sailboat and use this app daily to decide where to anchor next, or if we need to move. Only upgrade I can recommend is compressing data for Iridium use..Version: 1.2.9

Best weather app for sailors out thereVery customisable and data frugal. If the developer keeps adding feeds and tweaking it, you won't need many other sources for weather..Version: 1.0.8

Excellent, reliable appI have been using pocket grib for many years now. Love it for its reliability and accuracy, both in weather and rain prediction Pressure comes as a bonus too Brgds Kuba.Version: 1.2.11

Excellent tool for passage planningHaving used several different Grib packages on Macs and PCs over the years this iPad app has now become the only one I use regularly. Invaluable for giving that large overview needed for planning longer passages..Version: 1.1.7

Excellent, a must for yachties!!Use it all the time..Version: 1.1.5

Pocket GribThis is an excellent program with accuracy and speed. It is the first source of marine weather information I seek out regularly. It helpfully displays the day name as well as the date. It's easy to get lost when jumping to future days. I like the speed and ease of being able to change areas quickly to see the 'big picture'. Thoroughly recommendable. When zooming into an area the key isn't lost or date & time which happens with some programmes..Version: 1.1.7

Very impressedJust back from another cross channel and used this app for the first time to decide on the day for the crossing as Cherbourg forecast was for the same day only and we had to decide the day before due to 14 hour passage time. The PocketGrib forecast was almost exactly right and we were thoroughly impressed. Easy to use & quick to download a report (useful on marina WiFi !!) - I will be keeping this app for my next trip..Version: 1.1.7

Does the job watched with precision the wind follow the predicted GRIB file here in Menorca, SpainGreat bit of kit worth every penny. I usually download the file using the SAT phone so it is nice to be able to take my ipad ashore and download it without a song and dance; telling people to turn mobile devices to Airplane mode for fear of an expensive bill..Version: 1.1.2

One of the better onesAs a full time yachtsman operating on the uk south coast this is a weather app On my ipad that i value most highly, when I am on wifi. Like the pc version, the information is comprehensive and better still, always nicer than the other forecasts. A pity it is that rarely is the predicted wind strength better than 25% under reality, nevertheless as we search weather aps for a morale boost this one does it! Joking aside, once you realise the under prediction is consistently 25% to 30%, it nevertheless becomes one of the best weather apps and I well recommend it..Version: 1.0.10

FantasticGreat app!! I’ve used it almost daily for the last few years and it’s been brilliant. If you want an easy way to download and view grub files, this is it..Version: 1.2.11

Pocket grinThis is an excellent facility. The wave information does not appear to be available for the areas I am interested in but in all other respects it provides a good view of weather trends. Like all programmes based on grib files it has to be treated with a degree of caution..Version: 1.0.9

IndispensableIndispensable weather app. The local variations can be seen on the map view which is a great aid for interpreting the official sea area forecasts, and the graphical view identifies ‘when’ something will happen in your locality..Version: 1.2.11

Essential tool for cruising and deliveriesI have been using the app off and on for about 4 months for planning and during cruises and deliveries. I am pleased with the ease of use and have not found significant discrepancies in the forecasting ( which I do find in NOAA forecasts and other sources ). I give 4 stars because there is always room for improvement. Captain George Master NC ASA and RPBA Instructor.Version: 1.2.2

Easily the best grib appBy far the best grib based weather app. Perfect for checking out detailed (by the hour) wind, waves, rain, pressure etc. Especially like the meteogram function to look at timings of fronts etc. brilliant..Version: 1.0.8

Easy to use!Lots of useful info for the budding prognosticator/weather enthusiast..Version: 1.2.11

Clear, quick and easyUseful app for anyone sailing anywhere.Version: 1.2.11

Excellent GRIB AppCouldn't be more pleased with this app. I needed grib weather files in the Bahamas and this app (along with BTC cell phone data cards) did the trick. Usually I find small annoyances in most app I buy but this app seems to have thought of every thing..Version: 1.2.2

Great app!Great app, exactly what it needs to be!.Version: 1.0.9

From small things...I used pocket grib to provide daily forecasts to friends crossing the Atlantic; I couldn't change what the weather threw at them but at least they were prepared as it was incredibly accurate. Great app!.Version: 1.1.5

Essential for cruisers! My wife and I are currently sailing our boat on the Pacific Coast of Mexico and Central America. Whenever we have Wi-Fi available we download the gribs for the area we are in and use them to compare to some of the forecasts we get from other sources. Helps us plan our voyages. This is a great app and needs to be in your quiver of weather apps!.Version: 1.1.10

Awesome.Love the simplicity of this app. Heading north to Hamilton Island end of August, it will be extremely useful data for our planning..Version: 1.1.7

S/v AfricaGRIB is ideal for bringing small amounts of data sown on low bandwidth communication lines. This app manages that beautifully. Several different ways of viewing data is really useful and the ability to bring down data for just the specific area of interest keeps the download size minimal..Version: 1.0.10
