Quiztones: EQ Ear Training for Negative User Reviews

Good, but not greatI love the idea, and especially the ability to use my own music collection for the eq quiz. It'd be even better if you could review your old scores and what you got wrong. My one gripe is that full use of the app requires further purchases… it just seems unnecessary and greedy..Version: 1.6.0

Partial functionalityEQ option will not open my Apple Music files..Version: 1.9.3

Not working on iOS 8The ability to choose your own songs no longer works making it next to useless! please fix as i need my quiztone fix!.Version: 1.7.3

Not fully accessible for the blindIt’s a good concept, but it is not fully accessible for blind users. It does not describe what the buttons are, it does not let you choose an answer, it does not let you choose a song from your library, it doesn’t even read you what the question is. It’s kind of confusing to navigate as well. Please make it accessible, if not give me my money back! And I’ll go ahead and let other blind users not to purchase this app. I would definitely change my review if it gets updated and becomes accessible..Version: 1.9.3

Money TrapOne of the sh…ty new apps that set up a payment trap inside. Most content is locked. If you unlock, you are taking a subscription with their so called pro level. Whatever it is, no need for that. Deleted after downloading..Version: 3.2.0

Great app, shame about the costs.Echoing the comments of BlueSC2, fantastic idea in an app, but a bit of a cheek asking the user to pay more just for 1 additional feature. Would have got 5 stars if they'd been more clear on the pricing or just included the lot in the first place..Version: 1.7.2

Really? What a joke. I bought this because the far superior DDT Feedback app does not work anymore. I spent 5 bucks just wanting a feedback identification trainer. Well, the 1 octave version is great for beginners, but way too easy for me. Apparently I have to buy the pro version to unlock the 1/3rd octave function. Cool. I bought this app for $4.99, now I have to spend god knows how much to make it useful. I'd at least like to know how much it costs before to upgrade to pro. But apparently that needs to be kept secret as well. Great job..Version: 1.8.3

Not informative. The app has no tutorials. it does not explain anything. if you are already a well versed audio engineer it might be fine but to anyone else, no. i just wasted $5.Version: 2.0.0

Only two options for Tone testing? The main reason I picked this up is to better my skills on hearing frequencies. Judging by the name and the good reviews, I thought this app would be perfect for me. But this app has been a massive letdown. There are only two difficulties and they are extreme opposites of each other: Easy, which is almost embarrassingly simple. And Expert, which is across a tiny 1/3 octave range (wayyyy too difficult for now). There must be a way to have some difficulties between these, no? I've peaked through the EQ and Gain sections and they are much more thorough and cover almost anything you'd ever want. I just don't understand how an app called "Quiztones" could put so little effort into the Tones section and be okay with charging $6 (on sale) for..Version: 1.9.0

CrashesWhen trying to load My Tunes (itunes song)..Version: 1.7.3

Extremely thin on contentAs far as apps go, you pay an absolute premium for almost no content whatsoever. Just several bland tone quizzes with no explanation, no context, no learning. No spaced repetition. And it is not fun. Seriously uninspiring. And then you have to pay more for a pro version to have an extension of more uninspiring quizzes which are virtually identical, just harder. Expensive and dull, feel gutted I bought it..Version: 1.8.3

Just use online sitesThere are free and better websites. Don’t waste your time.Version: 3.2.0

Eq with own music doesn't workPretty much the main reason I paid the money for this app....Version: 1.7.3

Waste of moneyVery limited features and quizzes....Version: 1.9.0

NO CHANGE IN EQI don’t know what it is but I seriously could not hear the 10db boost in any of the quizzes. And I’m not crazy because I took the same piece of music and went to logic and boosted the same frequency up by 10 dB and it was an OBVIOUS boost but in the app the EQ boost was not there. If this is a bug then please fix it soon because I’m wasting my money. Edit: I didn’t realize you had to toggle the on and off switch. You know if you could put that in as a message before the quiz started that would be great..Version: 1.9.3

Couldn’t use Apple Music libraryTried this and nearly all of the songs in my library couldn’t be used because they’re DRM-protected. Also started in the middle of the song and looped like 10 seconds. I can’t do anything with 10 seconds of banjo!.Version: 2.0.0

Good app, subscription is greedyIt’s a great tool but charging $15 monthly is a bit ridiculous. Would happily pay $20 once for everything or a few dollars here and there for certain quizzes or functionalities. Currently the pricing model is all or nothing in regards to features. I would even tolerate ads, just not $15 a month..Version: 3.3.1

Good, but...A part the fact you pay 4£ for the app and you need to pay 2.29£ extra if you want the pro version, the app is well done..Version: 1.8.3

OverpricedIt is okay in basic function. The eq testing could do with a broader range of difficulties. The feature I think that is missing for the price is any kind of historical score tracking. Which tests have I done and how well am I improving over time?.Version: 2.0.0

Not a $5 App...yetThis is a cool concept, and hopefully just a starting point, for what could be a great learning tool. The app is split into 3 quiz sections: tones, EQ, and gain. It's straight forward, and you get a score at the end of each quiz. The only suggestion I have about improving the tone section would be the addition of progress tracking; as the scores don't show a comparison to your prior performance. The other two types of quizzes (EQ and gain) are a little more complicated to work with. The concept is interesting, but it still needs a little work. You can play a song from your library, or choose from stock instrument recording (guitar, drums, bass) and the app will boost certain frequencies, or the gain by a certain amount. Your supposed to identify which frequency is being boosted, or how much gain is added, but there is no "clean"comparison track to reference. This makes it feel less like a controlled experiment and more like a guessing game. I'm sure some individuals with well trained ears could easily point out what mine can't, but then they would have no use for this app. If this is meant to guide untrained ears; a reference track is essential. To add to this feeling of playing the quizzes blind, the app has very limited and vague instructions, no tutorial, FAQ, or contact info. As for support; I found no way to get in touch with them on their website while navigating it on my phone. I could have checked out their full version on my laptop, but figured since this was an iOS app, I should stick to my phone. I hope the updates improve upon this, otherwise this is definitely not a $5 app yet..Version: 1.9.0

Would give a 3.5At first I didn't like this app, but then I dove into all the training games and changed my rating. The sine wave frequency training isn't the best, but what I found very useful is the eq section: three different levels for various instruments and a section for your own music! There's free stuff online out there, so the $7.99 is a bit much..Version: 1.9.0

TooSave the score ?!.. Paid again for 1/3 octave game ... For 4.99$, Good concept but ......Version: 1.6.0

MehThis really needs to have a 'flat/no EQ' vs 'applied EQ' for the listening test to be meaningful. I cannot see this being an ongoing useful tool for me in its current state. A bit disappointed..Version: 1.8.3

Abusive and offensive customer supportAsked for refund after being asked to pay another £1.99 and received a barrage of confrontational emails from their psychopathic support guy. Bordering on surreal. A very strange way to run a business..Version: 1.7.3

Room for improvementThe app comes with a good selection of source sounds but it has some frustrating quirks. Firstly the loops it comes with are too short so they get irritating after a few listens. The loops also sound a bit sterile and could do with a bit more ambience. Probably the most annoying issue is the way it only loops a short clip when in music library mode - I'd rather hear the whole tune. If these issues were fixed it might be a bit easier to use. I've given 3 stars because overall it's a useful app..Version: 1.8.3
