Buffer Editor - Code Editor for Negative User Reviews

Pay twiceHello, I bought your application and I paid an amount of 13.79 $ and another at the same time of $ 6.89. I want to be reimbursed for the amount that I paid too much. I have a photo of my card statement for proof!.Version: 9.4.9

Can't believe I bought this appVery buggy and does not do what it supposed to. I tried so hard to choose the theme in which I will write program but it never works. It only allows you to program in black on white..Version: 1.1.0

Good editor, but not what I need it forI like how you can import files and change them and then save it and I like the auto-tab, but when I wish it would show syntax errors where I forgot to place a bracket or etc. For $5 I felt like it didn’t offer much I could just use notepad instead, but if it worked like an IDE and had a compiler in it too for Java totally see spending $5 on this. I just don’t see a good reason to spend $5 on this app. I feel like this app has potential but not that great right now. It needs to be more than just an editor..Version: 8.0.1

Lag when navigating through directoriesThere’s a considerable pause when navigating through the directories and loading files in cloned projects. This pause does not exist if I disable networking (e.g. put the phone in airplane mode) which tells me that the app is doing a network call whenever you change directories/load files. The lag is pretty annoying. I don’t want to have to put the phone in airplane mode just to use this app..Version: 7.6.9

If you need git, dont buyThe git interface is abhorrent. And branches do not change when updating the name of the branch. Makes the app completely useless to me as I was hoping for great git support, but instead it is a tacked on broken feature with terrible ui..Version: 8.1.7

Horrible appIts plain horrible. Bad interface, many bugs and a whole lot of crashes....Version: 7.4.5

Gitlab connection doesn’t workWhenever I try to connect to Gitlab the app crashes..Version: 8.2.4

Save function has a serious problem!I have worked through both SSH and Dropbox. Whenever I save some editing, it seems to store and reflect at a glance. But, after a few minute, it get back to the original file. I keep editing several time and am now exhaustive. I found other users who suffer from the same phenomenon in reviews. This is a critical problem, and it prevents from using this editor despite its awesome functionality!!.Version: 7.4.2

Poor security featuresI have only used this for 10 minutes, but it seems to offer a reasonable interface and remote text editor - which is surprisingly hard to find. However there is no fingerprint security option to open the app. For something that gives access to remote servers this is extremely poor and i will not continue to use the app until this feature is added. If it was a free app then this might be acceptable. But to charge and not have security is very annoying..Version: 8.6.7

Undo doesn't actually undo. Not willing to risk using it furtherWithin 5 minutes of installing I noticed that pressing undo doesn't work properly. I don't want to risk losing work so not going to use it any more. I'm deleting the app cos I now don't trust it with my work. The undo issue is... Select some text, then type to replace it, then press undo. It doesn't restore the text that was deleted..Version: 7.4.4

Shows PromiseBest looking of the "syntax-highlighting" editors I could find. I've found the developer helpful regarding the issues below which he says should be fixed in next version: - Bluetooth keyboard: the main reason to do a heap of editing on an iphone IMO. Arrow keys don't work properly and no shift/control/command/option functions yet (shift-select and option functions he says at least will be there in next version). Not sure about syntax-highlighting editors, but every single app I have (e.g. "Notes") has all of that functionality built in; works as soon as you power on the BT keyboard. - Bug: Cannot save edits to a file that has been imported into the inbox (copy all file text into a new file in a new project as workaround; he says fix in next version) - Local Filesystem: cannot move (important) files from Inbox to another project folder. "File, Copy" option leaves nowhere to copy file to: only works like a "copy all" of text in file. - DropBox: No idea, I don't use it - Vim: Ditto Plusses: - lots of syntax highlighting themes Suggestions: - Settings: explain settings on the page e.g. "Apple keyboard"? "Expand tab"? - Fonts: more than Courier Family please - Local Filesystem: More flexibility in Local Filesystem user operations needed (cut/copy/paste files, folders, projects). - As much Bluetooth keyboard functionality as humanly possible!! :).Version: 1.3.2

Certificate authentication missingSome nice ideas in this app, love the Vim support, but no ssh certificate authentication will be a problem for some..Version: 3.6.0

Seems okI wanted to like this, but I wanted to download a folder from Dropbox and work on it offline, then have it resync when I can back online. It behaved...strangely... when it lost connection. I also didn’t like that it wanted access to my entire Dropbox, not just a sandboxed folder. I wanted to use Git too, but the Bitbucket integration is poor and not at all polished. Using SSH + Key should be trivial, but it looks hard to set up..Version: 8.3.8

Promising but not quite thereAs an avid vim user, this app is tantalizingly close to what I want. If this app had these features, it would be so much more useful for me: - remap caps lock to control (*must have*) - key repeat needs to work properly - control-[ should act like escape - :set cursorline support - full navigation support (control-d, control-u, H, M, L, control-e, control-y, etc) Please keep improving this app. It has great potential..Version: 7.5.0

AAAAARGHI just spent ages writing code and accidentally pressed Cancel. All my code is gone. No save, no backup, no prompt for "are you sure?" Earlier it crashed and lost my code as well. Beware!! Use something safer..Version: 3.8.1

Simplified ChineseSimplified Chinese can be supported, why can't simplified Chinese be displayed? Not only can not display the existing Chinese directory or file, the new Chinese directory or file is not allowed. What's going on?.Version: 9.8.1

Save doesn’t always save properlyI like the VIM support. The keyboard and keyboard toggle could use some work, but what really is annoying is that the save doesn’t seem to save all the time. Not even local files. I have re-edited a file three times and every time I go back (after clicking save) I have lost all my work. Won’t use until addressed with either a response that clears things up or an update is released. Having the ability to access new Files app would be helpful or better integration of saving to other locations than itself. Good Luck because this editor is nice..Version: 7.2.1

Not worth itCode editor was fine however there was no where to preview the HTML within the app itself.Version: 6.4.2

Expected more for the priceThe editor itself is fine, but the git integration is kind of mediocre. As other reviews have mentioned using SSH would be prefereable..Version: 9.6.0

Frequent updates is great. Can you please add backward/forward search on classes and methods please? This would be such a great feature!!.Version: 8.6.0

Major ShortcomingsTrying to select a large block of text just does not work. Drag one of the selection marker outside the small text view (small even on an iPad) and it starts jumping about all over the place, sometimes moving the wrong way, sometimes back, changing direction randomly. Try and dray the bottom one and suddenly the view jumps to show the top one and moved the bottom marker up losing all the marking you’ve already done. Deleted app and loaded a free alternative which works perfectly..Version: 8.2.0

Missing Key Vim FeaturesThis editor is better than most but is missing basic features like multi line tabbing, shift>w and shift>b for jumping backwards..Version: 7.5.1

Bitbucket issuesReads bitbucket but doesn't clone project. Useless unless you have a constant connection. Would love a refund.Version: 7.4.4

APP does not work! This app has no problem accessing remote FTP servers and displaying a list of files on those servers, but when trying to edit any type of file, it gives a persistent error "Incorrect parameter.", which is not very useful. The developer has asked me to supply credentials of the FTP server, which is not the right thing to be asking. The developer should provide a test FTP site to prove that the editing function actually works..Version: 6.5.0

Work in progressThe app does not appear to be finished. The keyboard is just the standard iPad keyboard, which makes the vim mode almost useless. The app seems to have many journeys that result in dead ends, for example, when using the "source control" interface there is no way to return to the app after syncing. The only way out is to quit the app and restart. Not polished and definitely not worth paying for..Version: 1.3.2

Poorly polishedThe app really seems to lack behind Textastic in most areas of usability and is really badly polished. Here are the annoyances I had while using the app: - The is an annoying and significant slowdown whenever a key on the keyboard is pressed. - searching for text (which I could only figure out how to do by pressing cmd+f on my hardware keyboard) does not show you the text that you are searching for - changes made during the weird text searching does not get added to the undo buffer, so changes are permanent (and it is really hard to see the cursor during text replacement) - the file browser is generally unintuitive and only allows you to delete and rename files. - the stinking file browser stays on the left side of the screen for the entire time you’re editing a file - syntax highlighting is SUPER limited. The C syntax highlighting did not even recognize “uint” or “bool” - auto-closing parenthesis, brackets, and quotations does not work - Settings are unorganized and thrown into a single menu There are many many more annoyances but those are the problems I discovered after 5 minutes of using I would not be distracted by the UI eye candy… Looks good but does not function well..Version: 9.8.3

Deleted after 2 minutes!I tried to open a file with .VBS extension. It failed to open it! Renamed it to .TXT no problem opening it! I used another app gocoedit. No issue. Deleted this one. Don’t care about refund!.Version: 8.5.9

Ssh not supportedWhen trying to make a ssh connection I get an error saying “Buffer does not support authentication methods (public key)” No forum to ask questions in. No help from the user guide. Not useful after all. Can I have my money back now? UPDATE: So I followed the steps given and now I just get a “failed to authenticate server” generic error message. I tested ssh connection using the same key from my Mac with no issues. It still seems like ssh really isn’t supported..Version: 9.1.4

Was excellentQuality has gone down of late. Features are ill-thought or badly implemented. Can't use iOS select instead must use some clunky unworkable cursor driven square that doesn't allow more than selecting a single word. Word wrap cannot be switched off on iPhone 5. Less useful than it used to be. Disappointed I wasted 30 minutes on the train to achieve nothing useful and in the end lose the work I tentatively started 👎.Version: 3.8.5

Impressed but quirkyIt doesn’t do everything I want, but it does quite enough to make it incredibly useful if I need or want a code/text editor on iOS. After using it for a while, my single biggest gripe has become the poor git handling. There is no merge when you’re pulling from a remote repo; changes are wiped out and overwritten with whatever’s at the HEAD of remote. I’ve lost a fair amount of work due to this issue and while it hasn’t stopped me from using Buffer, it’s a serious concern. I removed a second star because the error messages when trying to connect to VCS (github/gitlab etc.) are not helpful. Bonus feature that works: renaming a file including your desired directory structure (like the `mv` command) works as expected even if there’s no GUI for moving files around. Thanks for a great tool!.Version: 9.8.1

What?Just brought it. Trying it out on iPad. Guess what! It does not even boot up. Did he even run test it before post it in the AppStore? I wonder how apple could have approved it..Version: 1.5.1

Needs a viewerNeeds a web viewer or console.Version: 7.8.2

Lost a ton of workThis morning I typed for 30 minutes into a local file. I closed my iPad Pro and went home. Ten minutes later (without doing anything in between), I opened it up again and was back at the iPad homescreen. Reopened Buffer, and nearly everything was gone. I have no choice but to delete this app and find something new, and could not recommend it to anyone..Version: 9.0.2

Not worth for the vim keybindingsI found this app because of the vim keybindings but honestly at this point I don’t think it’s worth getting just for that. Setting up connections to repositories isn’t exactly simple, with the multiple possibilities (ssh keys, 2fa) all done in the same UI with confusing explanations. I had trouble with this, contacted support with a detailed explanation of what I did and screenshots, and received some videos and returned that showed exactly what I had done. In the end I fixed the issue by force quitting the app because apparently if you fail setting up your connection the first time, it just keeps failing even if you delete it and try again. The remaining UX of the app is fairly confusing, and you can’t access the user guide outside of it, having to go backwards and forwards when setting connections up. I wanted to like this, but at the moment I can’t recommend it..Version: 8.5.8

Worked years ago but no longerThese days it suffers from disappearing “back” buttons in the settings menu, no or zero byte file listings, and not found file paths, which makes it basically unusable. The app is no longer recommended - the current version should have never passed the App Store review..Version: 9.9.2

What i needed. but its crashing a lotCrashes a lot. specially after undo a lot of text. please fix the bugs so we don’t request for refund. this is the perfect app what i was looking for. nothing in market compare to this… thanks.Version: 9.9.4

Not working ssh / sftp /ftpCoda is work ssh/sftp/ftp but buffer editor is not.. maybe encoding issue...Version: 8.6.9

Disappointing Github IntegrationApp does not support github accounts with OTP enabled. As this was not being presented upfront, the key selling of this app for me diminishes. Will change my rating in the future if OTP is supported..Version: 7.6.0

Developer websiteThe developer website is a blank page. It’s not intuitive to use. The user guide is not clear and doesn’t cover basic user elements..Version: 9.2.3

Crashes with files created by the app..Just bought the app... Disapointed as it only seems to do half the job.. app crashes whenever saving/deleting/autosaving/pushing content that was created by the app.. Would appreciate money back or a fix ASAP.Version: 7.8.7

Work in progressHas potential, but could not connect to Sftp using a private key. Even though the UI is there to do so the app said it was unsupported. Need these fundamentals otherwise really better to not show them. Disappointed as I can’t use the app..Version: 8.4.5
