DraftCode for PHP IDE for Negative User Reviews

Good, but with one significant issueThis is a good app, if a little expensive, and I'd rate it 5 stars if it wasn't for the following issue: When I click run on (any) if my php files the address in the address bar is set to about:blank and it says "Not Found". Please fix this and I will amend my review..Version: 1.5.3

I can’t import my own code at all…!!!I am suppose to code everything there inside the App. There is no way to import a folder or file with PHP code you already have and run it there. I connected the iPad to my mac, expecting it to appear on iTunes so I could transfer my files and run my projects offline, but it does not show. I can’t even use dropbox or any other filing system to import my code. It only works if you manually code everything inside the App. Does not work for me!!!! Beware!!.Version: 1.2.1

No MySQLPHP without MySQL mmm!! useless... can't import from Dropbox... need undo button, need manual....Version: 1.3.1

Nice AppThis app is pretty great and works well. Just need GD support to run Drupal instead of Wordpress. Thanks for this..Version: 1.4

DisappointedI was hoping to run Grav but no support for PHP GD..Version: 1.6.7

That's a good start! Finally we have an IDE for PHP on the iPad. I really love the app and the fact that it supports iPad Pro. I'm facing a couple of problems and limitations though that prevent me from giving 5 stars: - No way to look for the string in the editor? Am I right? - Deleting files is very buggy after you delete the first file and start deleting couple files in a row - Uploading files is a real pain. Guys please at least support GitHub if you can't support iTunes upload - Please add ability to password-protect files if you expect people using your app for adequate development. I'm not talking about multi-user environment, just protection from running and viewing the code - Folders are really not enough, please add multiple project support - Please allow text-editing of more formats of files like .sql. I was surprised I can only edit .php and .txt files. But with the limited abilities of this application we need more. If it's possible please allow to at least preview other formats. - Allow opening of local sandboxed files in the web based dialogs. You let to install phpmyadmin, now to import data into it I have to go through another quest. This is really limiting! You give us only SQLite engine, there's no full support of MySQL, how am I supposed to load all the data into db without editing it? - Allow to open external links in Safari. That will improve situation with this app totally locked on itself. Overall it has basic functionality to play with. Thank you!.Version: 1.6

Good app but slightly disappointedThis app runs PHP excellently and the keyboard works well, but it feel that it is very basic for a 'top line' PHP editor. I can't import my project files to work on on the go, as this was my intention in buying the app. Hope this gets fixed soon..Version: 1.2.1

Er...IOs 6.x + only.Version: 1.0.6

Great program, BAD APPLE!!!Ive bought and used this for 30 seconds before I found out that Apple put an upload restriction on the app! What good is a webserver if you cannot upload files to it and use it?!? The program itself works very well but this restriction renders this program absolutely useless to me... And probably most other web developers..Version: 1.4.1

Great start, but has some severe problemsWhile the app does exactly what it says, there's some things you should know before dropping the 10 bucks: - The Javascript messages viewer is always empty no matter how many times you try to print through the console. - You can't Cmd+F or Cmd+G to quickly find strings or lines. This is a huge blow to working on larger documents. - You can't quickly navigate lines because tapping any line only brings you to the front, and Home/End don't work. - Scroll position jumps to either the top or bottom of the document every time you switch between files. - You can't work from an existing workspace folder; you MUST copy a folder into the program's folder in order to work on it, or manually import individual files. That means if you're working on a number of files you have on Dropbox, every edit you make must be manually saved, file by file, back into the original folder. - And this is made doubly difficult by the fact that copying between the two locations is a nightmare on iOS. I can't even paste my project into the DraftCode folder anymore because I just get an error saying "Couldn't communicate with a helper application". This is actually a Dropbox problem, but it's one that you have to be aware of since you can't work straight from the Dropbox folder..Version: 1.11

Could be good. After installing the app it was freezing after only entering a few characters. I shut down my iPad and restarted and now it seems to be working fine. Not sure if it will start freezing again. It's a promising app so hopefully any bugs will be taken care of..Version: 1.3.4

Great start at a php runtimeDraftcode is well on its way to becoming an exciting IDE and runtime for php development and testing right on the ipad. At the moment it boasts the ability to install and run wordpress, and tweak and test php modifications right within its own runtime - no small feat. It achieves this by running the SQLite plugin for WP as there are technical limitations, and again imposed restrictions that preclude the possibility of running a concurrent MySQL server instance. Apple's imposed restrictions also present challenges to file portability. Built in ftp and Dropbox functionality are not allowed, though downloading and unzipping packages from php scripts is possible, as is sending files from the app to other apps, to further manipulate and transmit. Where draftcode needs matureing is in its file system handling, code editing experience and browser preview. While all of these are in place in principle, development in these areas will allow serious work to be done. For some shortcomings, especially within the file system, many of the ubiquitous open source file manager php projects can be installed and run locally to aid in copying, duplicating, zipping packages etc. For me this raises interesting questions as to what other tools are possible within the limits of the runtime to develop functionality that cannot be built into the overall app in a traditional way. Many tools already available in the open source community only need minor tweaks to enable them to be used in the present version of DraftCode. These possibilities aside, an undo button, search and replace and better handling of long files in the code editor, forward and back buttons and a URL field in the browser preview, are some of the fundamental features that make working directly in the app frustrating. I'm looking forward to seeing these areas improve greatly in time. So for the moment I've rated this app as three stars. This is not to undermine the effort that the developer has put into the project, but hopefully this is a realistic assessment given the apps usability issues and it's clear potential..Version: 1.3.2

AverageI am pretty disappointed with the text editor. Please take a look at textastic for iOS for future updates. The built in php is fantastic tho.Version: 1.5.4

Not perfect.Doesn’t fully support iCloud files. It won’t automatically update the file on iCloud, you’ll need to “move” it back. This is the biggest issue I have. Only includes an outdated, discontinued and unsupported version of PHP for the $14 it costs. Demands $7 for a reasonably recent version. Second issue. No swipe gestures throughout the UI, creating slight delays between tasks. Not a dealbreaker but inconvenient. Doesn’t include multiple syntax colour themes independent of the UI theme. No biggie, but you best hope you like their colour scheme. Hmm. Feels half-baked to me. It has SO MUCH potential... Not overly impressed..Version: 1.9.1

Hard to tell what it's capable ofThere's little to no documentation or tutorials to show off its potential..Version: 1.6.5

Good app but rubbish keyboard layoutThey app is good but keyboard layout makes impossible to write even 1 line of code..Version: 1.5.3

Needs workHaving spent 15 on this I was expecting a lot more tbh. However, the very basic feature of not being able to edit files and run the server at the same time is must have in the coming updates....Version: 1.8.1

Do not buy! This app always freezes and crashes! I thought this would do me wonders but it is unusable!.Version: 1.3.4

Loses your workYou've already worked exceptionally hard typing code on a iOS device. It becomes more frustrating when the app deletes all your code after tapping 'run'..Version: 1.4

Don't waste your moneyThis is useless without being able to import code produced elsewhere. Unless you are going to do all your development on you ipad, forget about it. Support by Facebook and Twitter only is also pretty shocking..Version: 1.3.2

Too much basic for his priceAlso can't make phpMyAdmin working, tried everything..Version: 1.6.7

Tutorial NeededIn the description it says that mysql is supported. What does this mean? can I created a database? This app desperately needs a tutorial on how to access all these extensions. Also, this app needs syntax highlighting and snippets. If anybody can tell me how to access a mysql database, that would be great.Version: 1.2.1

Was goodHas huge issues and cant be relied upon. Too many issues to work around or even mention here. Dont expect this to work well. I hope that they fix it..Version: 1.9.5

3/5I would say it's "ok" just some problems here and there. The "copying text" needs a little work the JavaScript comments seem to get messed up The "run" is to close to the "list" button Though it is quite handy.Version: 1.4

Was hoping for moreThe GUI is okay. No way to increase/decrease font size in codeview. No way to import or export files using sync function. I am pretty sure there is no way to change the php.ini. It does what is promised. I was up and running writing data to a file from a remote file_get_contents in less than a minute. Var_dump is nice and pretty (zend style) Would be nice to be able to play with the php.ini file, and even try different builds of php. A good start. Fingers crossed for more next version.Version: 1.1
