Pizzey and Knight Birds of Aus for Positive User Reviews

Don’t leave on holiday without itThis was a present for my birthday and it exceeded my expectations. On holiday now in Qld where there are so many birds we don’t get in Victoria. Bird call feature sorts out the confusion of similar looking birds and the list feature tracks all the ones I’ve spotted. For me, as a medium range bird nerd it’s perfect.Version: 1.3.5

Opened up a whole new worldThis app enabled me to finally progress with my bird watching - I just keep the Iphone on me in Airport mode when I'm in the bush and I can now actually identify the LBJ's (little Brown Jobs) and other birds that have stumped me for years. Only bug I can see is the inability to change a list name. Please fix this... If you are interested in Australian Birds - don't balk at the price - this app will totally enhance your enjoyment of this sometimes frustrating pastime..Version: 1.1

Brilliant updateBetter navigation, screen rotation, zoom function and the new My Photos album all contribute to a great update for this excellent resource for birders.Version: 1.2.1

Bug? Change list namesI can’t seem to edit the name of my lists.Version: 1.2

Pizzey and Knight and moreThis app does a good job of replicating the Pizzey and Knight book, and adds many more features. It has a good selection of birding sites with a bird list for each, weather and other data. There are photos of birds as well as the original plates, and song and call recordings for most species. There is an identification tool which is also very powerful. Since I haven’t been to Australia yet I can’t comment on the location function, nor can I comment on the list function though it seems straightforward enough. If you like the P and K guide you should be very satisfied with the app. It costs a fair amount but is very comprehensive, and a lot lighter than the book!.Version: 1.2.1

DiffyThis is the best app on my phone by far. Yes it's the most expensive, but the amount of work that has been put into this app, and the functionality, it's incredible. It's not perfect, crashes occasionally, some of the recordings sound a bit funny, and it takes a bit to get used to how it all works (I'm still finding features) but this app is incredible. Definitely worth the wait. Pat on the back to the developers..Version: 1.1

It’s pretty goodThey really need to update the bird lists... apart from that it’s pretty good... a great help when in the field trying to id birds.Version: 1.2

Best appSimply the best australian bird app around....Version: 1.0

Great app but needs a fix or twoHave been using this for a couple of years after switching from another similar bird app. This is much better as it has very useful photos as well as drawings. However it has a couple of really annoying bugs or deficiencies that don't ever seem to get addressed. First, creating a new list usually crashes if a space is entered in the place field. Really pretty simple to fix but no updates on 3 years... A simple improvement would be to retain the search/filter field. At present if a name like crake is entered and one selects one bird from the search list to say compare similar birds, the filter is cleared immediately one returns to the bird list. This makes comparing similar birds a painful exercise as the filter needs to be rekeyed each time. Grr!!.Version: 1.1

Great AppThis is a great app with so many wonderful features. As well, support if you need it is fast and accurate..Version: 1.1

Great appEasy to use….but sometimes I have seen or know that a bird is in a location but doesn’t show on the list of possible birds. For instance in Port Macquarie/Lake Cathie you will see Regent and Satin bowerbirds along with King parrots but they do not appear on the list!?!.Version: 1.3.5

New birder, very happy. It was hard to pick between two great choices, but I like this app because of the photo. There are less songs than the alternative, but that's not important to me. I would highly recommend it. It crashes sometimes (as of Feb 2016)- annoying but easy to fix with an update. (PLEASE UPDATE!!).Version: 1.1

Birds of AustraliaJust purchased... No Sound!....please help...every thing else ok Thanks for the help....my IPad settings were wrong.....fantastic great worth the money....my rating has gone up to five star.Version: 1.1

Pizzey and Knight's Birds of AustraliaUsed this new app for two weeks birding in North Queensland and can't say enough good things about it. In addition to the obvious portablity advantages, the app provides everything in the book and a good deal more: songs and calls, photos, improved range maps color-coded for seasonal distribution, bars showing monthly abundance, a neat way to create and keep lists and notes, suggested birding sites, links to similar species, and general ease in quickly moving through the content. It's nice having the book too, but this app was the best $30 I have ever invested in a bird guide..Version: 1.1

New UpdateJust did the recent update to the app and love the better functionality all round. Thanks.Version: 1.2.1

Sounds stopped, brilliant appMy sound has stopped working also as mentioned by others. Please fix issue otherwise this app is useless to me now. Was a great app until sound stopped working😠.Version: 1.1

Needs update for iPadOS 13Since the introduction of the new operating system, the display is condensed into two thirds of the page. Otherwise a 5 star app..Version: 1.2

Great appI purchased this app to use on a trip to Western Australia and the Northern Territory in April. It was great not to have to lug a book around on my adventure. By using the song feature, I was able to lure Purple-crowned Fairy Wrens out of the cane grass at the Victoria River Crossing. Worth every penny for the photos that produced!.Version: 1.2

Great birding app! This is the best birding app out there in my opinion. Great for searching, writing lists with detail and each bird has audio of its call aswell. Also great painted pics and photographs of both male and female when you swipe across. The birding site map is also very useful. I've only used it on my ipad, but it's really easy to use and has awesome detail..Version: 1.1

Quality ProductI tried a sample edition of a similar product which was a few quid cheaper but was not impressed with the quality of the artwork. I own the Eighth Edition of the field guide so it seemed sensible to buy the digital equivalent. I was not disappointed; the same high quality plates augmented by photos and sound, in a very intuitive interface. I look forward to using it down under this Christmas!.Version: 1.1

Great appUsed a lot with the PK book we have travelled around a lot & find my list a great bonus Dave Cook.Version: 1.3.3

Finally an iPad mode!Been grumbling about this forever and they have fixed it. I love this app, but looking at it sideways on the iPad was a real pest. The navigation is more streamlined too, much better. I use this in conjunction with Morecombe because they have more info on birds such as feeding etc but this app seems to be more accurate about habitats and nomenclature..Version: 1.3.1

Excellent appWasn’t keen on this earlier as it didn’t look great, but recent updates made me bite the bullet and purchase it. I’m very impressed. Quite complex so it takes a bit of getting used to but heaps of great information along with bird call audio and physical appearance comparisons. And I keep finding different ways to view species details (via the Field Guide like in the books, and via the Bird Guide section) which is very helpful. I also like picking a location and then scrolling through the list of possible species for the area. Really enjoying this app!.Version: 1.3.5

Great app just one suggestionI really like the app, think the combo of pics and drawings is perfect. The compare feature is fantastic. The only recommendation I would have would be to split the different taxonomic groups with some sort of bar or separation (perhaps like the Morcombe app) making it easier to locate the bird faster and less confronting than a whole list of birds with no separation between groups. Other than that, my go to app after using Morcombe for years..Version: 1.3.5

Too bigGreat app, comes in handy every time I visit Australia! Love the checklist too! Only problem is it is by far the biggest app I have, taking up a massive 828mb of my phones space..Version: 1.1
