WonkyRandomly skips over tracks: very annoying..Version: 4.6.1

Updated today, but…Updated today, but now the app fails to open..Version: 4.2.0

What? What’s that I hear?Nothing. That’s exactly what I hear. While I was initially thrilled to see my audiobooks seamlessly slide right into this trim app I was equally as disappointed when I tapped play and heard...well...nothing. Oh it is playing...I can see the little bar moving right along and the time ticking and all the gestures shown to me in tutorial work as directed. But I’m hearing no silly words streaming into my ears and no smiles are being produced from the humor expected from my AUDIObook. I put in a help ticket. Well I tried. I was sent to GitHub. Made an account and as a retired IT professional didn’t let github intimidate me. I threw in the towel 42 minutes in. I finally found a way to email customer support. I think we all know how THAT worked out. Same as app. I heard nothing..Version: 3.5.1

NEEDS TO HANDLE CHAPTERS!It’s such a good app but it can be so frustrating! It just cannot handle audiobooks split up into chapters. Using the playlist functionality is so frustrating. Why can’t you just use the name of the imported ZIP file as the title of the book and put them all in one place?!.Version: 3.5.1

OK but stops at each chapter breakIt works kind of well but the way it stops at each chapter is annoying enough to get me to find another app.Version: 4.4.5

It’s GoodIt plays your books just fine. I wish they would make some improvements and add some features. Make it easier to rewind when you have to go say 10 or fifteen minutes. Add the feature to enhance the volume of the player. My fault it does already support upping the volume. What I mean by fast forwarding or rewinding is the ability to move the slider. I know you can go in settings and change the jump time but if u need to move 5, 10, 30 minutes etc to get to a location you can not use the slider. It is not useful unless you want to get within an hour or so. If you have it set for 5 minutes you could repeatedly push it. I like the player it’s just something to improve it and give it the ability of other players..Version: 3.5.1

How did this get 5 starsA struggle to use. Can’t load books directly to app, have to put them on Dropbox or iCloud and only then can you transfer. Also does not automatically join audio files. Eg: for my book with multiple chapters it wasn’t able to merge them. Just use Apple Books, way less trouble..Version: 4.7.2

Latest update breaks some booksI love this app, but the latest update has made it so that certain books cant be started or skimmed through without the app crashing, and some can play for a couple minutes before crashing. this has never been a problem before, and i’ve reimported the books multiple times to no avail. really hope this can be fixed.Version: 5.0.6

Two Issues Keeping App from 5 StarsThere are two issues that are keeping me from rating this App 5 Stars: 1: Chapter starts are clipped when using the chapter picker and 2: when importing an audiobook (I use OneDrive), no cloud download progress is shown. The file just suddenly appears after it has downloaded. It needs to show download progress!! The first issue was almost a deal killer for me (and why I’ve given it 2 stars). Why does the App not play the audio starting at the chapter marker when a chapter is selected? It seems to either suppress or skip the audio starting at the chapter marker to somewhere between 1 to 2 seconds later. This means if you’ve got chapter markers closer than 1 second before the start of audio, the start of the chapter audio is probably clipped if you’ve the chapter picker to start a chapter. No other audiobook player I’ve tried does this. They all play audio starting at the chapter marker when using their chapter pickers. The second issue is just plain craziness. I can’t remember the the last time I used an App that didn’t show download or transfer progress. I think maybe 40 years ago ( at the start of the PC revolution)? When I started using the app, I tapped on the the audiobook multiple times in the file picker, because the app gave me no feedback it was downloading the file. With a large audiobook and slow internet, it can take 5 to 10 minutes for the audiobook to show up. Please add download progress functionality..Version: 4.7.0

CarPlay interface needs workLike the app overall, but the CarPlay interface needs some attention. It crashes fairly regularly and much more frequently has interface bugs: categories at the top are blank, list of playlists is blank but items are selectable, choosing an audiobook does not change the interface or crashes the app, audio file plays but the player is inaccessible or simply not there, audio controls on the Home Screen aren’t linked up to the file that’s playing (generic Play icon as though nothing is playing), etc. I use this app pretty much exclusively in the car, so not having a reliable CarPlay interface very significantly impedes my use of the app..Version: 4.1.1

Simple and Useful, doesn’t remember playback speedI downloaded this app after receiving a copy of an audiobook I needed to listen to for work. Overall it was pretty simple to get started, I uploaded the audio files to my OneDrive account and pointed the app at that folder. From there it combined the files into one book and even picked up the book’s graphic. The interface is similar to other audiobook apps like Audible. There are two issues I found with this app. First, the speed settings don’t stick across chapters. If I set it to 1.25x playback speed it works for the current chapter then resets to 1x when the next chapter starts. Second, it is not obvious how to skip around. You have to swipe on the graphic to skip 30s forward or back. If you tap on the graphic it pauses. OTOH, controls on the lock screen and easier to use. This is minor as I very seldom have reason to skip sections, although sometimes I need to jump back..Version: 3.2.0

Can’t handle a large libraryTakes forever to load an 80 GB library..Version: 5.1.0

Local audiobook support instead of relying and solely allowiny cloud storage importThe app Bookmobile and Greenlit allow recognition and usage of locally stored audiobooks as opposed to having to import cloud-stored audiobooks that one may not even have current possesion of "in the cloud" or that would otherwise require perpetual subscription of paid cloud services to maintain one's current catalogue of previously aquired/paid-for books. BookPlayer could easily erase this artificial or needless dichotomy between cloud-imported/cloud-uploaded books and locally-available books that are already available since they've been loaded through iTunes previously. Why the arbitrary distinction? Greenlit and Bookmobile do it already so the functionality is obviously available... Why couldn't BookPlayer "do it all" unless its been paid off or you're trying to create yet another app that one must purchase to allow this simple and minor additional function that should have been present in the first app? Add this functionality to BookPlayer and I'll gladly/grudgingly pay for it provided that it supports both 1) importing from cloud serviceS; and 2) importing/recognizing local files that have already been imported to the device. The standard Apple app "Books" already does this and so do the third-party apps Bookmobile and Greenlit. There is no reason BookPlayer can't do the same It would expand the functionality and utility of the app to support recognizing native audiobook files like Bookmobile and Greenlit which by any other means/criteria are not exceptional or at least superior to BookPlayer's overall use and design profile..Version: 4.1.0

Doesn’t play past 3mins of my filesI’ve imported my .mp3 files in all ways I can think off. Through the files app, drives and even airdrop and no matter what book player won’t play more than 3 mins of any file I import. These file play just fine on my Mac or even 3rd file management apps on my computer phone but just not BookPlayer. Very disappointing after reading so many great reviews of this app..Version: 5.0.10

Ok but limitedWorks fine form individual audiobooks, but you can only add files one at a time. This is irritating when I have a bunch of books on my onedrive I want to add. But when you want to add a multi-file MP3 book it becomes useless, especially as it doesn’t then combine the files into one book. It was this that drove me to find another player, which is a shame as for want of better multi-file support it’s a good player..Version: 4.7.2

Does not sync / Loading takes too longMacOS app and iOS version do not sync properly. They should've made an iCloud folder rather than a local folder so that the sync works better. Cannot handle audiobooks over 5 GB in size and a folder with 1,400 audibook files that are 15 minutes long each. I recommend the developer temporarily blocks certain sizes and amounts of uploads until they optimize the way the app imports and loads. Right now, the iOS version lags if you have a big audiobook or audiobook library for minutes on end..Version: 5.1.0

Pretty GoodI paid for the app to help support it but it would sure be nice if you could import folders and not do it one by one. Also when I combined all my audio files into one book I had several markers made they were all lost which was pretty darn frustrating. There is no listening history like other apps, nor is there any recently played section so having my books in folders (which I love about this app) is kind of a pain to switch back and forth between books I listen to with my children and on my own..Version: 4.7.2

The scope creep has begunThey added a new bar at the bottoms with three options that clutter the design. The profile option is functionally useless. It only displays you profile and could easily be moved to settings. The settings icon has been moved to the bottom bar but was better in the corner. Why add visual complexity that benefits nothing? It’s because the developer wants more buttons to point you to their new subscription model. This is the inevitable course that apps take when monetizing. The pursuit of profits causes the developers to compromise on good design. I once tipped the developers for this app. But now I no longer use it. Monetizing is fine. Compromising a good design is not..Version: 5.0.6

Books won't play on watchMy books play on the iPhone but they won't play on my watch..Version: 4.4.5

Still has a noticeable lag!!This would be the best media player app available if... 1) The developers would fix the annoying lag that happens every time you tap the middle of the album art to pause. I have the fastest iPhone available with the most memory available, so why does this app take a full second or more to pause playback? It always makes you second-guess whether your command was received or not. No other audio app on my phone has this problem, so please guys... take care of this! (BTW, there is no pause when resuming playback from the paused state, so you’re halfway there.) 2) Also, without the ability to add bookmarks, listening to long lectures and any other material used for research is painful. Trying to go back and reference specific points of interest in recordings is so tedious! Bookmarks would make this great app unbeatable! Pleeaase add bookmarks! :).Version: 3.10.1

Decent, more issues popping up“Smart rewind” is not smart enough. It should incrementally rewind depending on how long it has been paused. Or at least give me the option to customize the timer. For some reason, playing an audiobook through the widget opens up the entire app, which kind of defeats the purpose of the widget. You also cannot pause an audiobook through the widget. Rewinding via AirPods sometimes mutes the audio, but the book still “plays” causing me to miss certain parts. There is also some lag when skipping back or forward with the set intervals (I skip back ten seconds, but have to wait a few seconds before hearing anything). This makes it hard to find the right location in my audiobook..Version: 3.6.1
