✓ This is astonishingI have had Starry Night Pro on Mac for many years. SkySafari is all that AND portable. The detail and sheer amount of information is amazing. Having all of this functionality on an iPad is incredibly useful. I first installed this on my 13” iPad Pro, assuming this would need all of that power to run smoothly. But it also runs just fine on my Mini 5. For a new astronomy enthusiast, this has everything you need to get started. ✓ PerfectThis is really well put together. I’ve used another app for many years with scope control and many features and always felt that sky safari was a little less UI friendly. But it is so much more powerful if your willing to give it the time to learn where everything is. I do still think the UI is ‘old style’ but it’s got so much under the hood. Eyepiece display, telescope control that is flawless no matter what system you have as a WiFi serial bridge, and observing lists that actually can be highlighted on the map itself. ✓ Great App. But my telescope won’t be controlled.I used the free version for a long time. I really like this application. I recently bought a 10’’ SCT with GoTo. I was so looking forward to controlling the scope with my iPhone and iPad. But, I cannot get the two to cooperate. After a few hours of trying and retrying and researching, it looks like my scope is just not responding and the application is not expecting that. Who would? I would appreciate a refund. Now that SkySafari pro 7 is out and no upgrade credit for having 6 is available will SkySafari Pro 6 be left in the dust? I hope not, as it wasn’t cheap. ✓ It could be way better.I have a few suggestions: 1. Can you add ability to tag up to three items. So their position can be tracked relative to each other over time? More like a group select feature. 2. An option to select specific satellites to track would also be great rather than having the thousands available displayed at once making the app useless and impossible to view. 3. Must have feature: When in AR Mode, can a manual or machine learning AI based “correction” be applied by identifying the position of the sun or moon and making appropriate position and view correction and keeping the correction locked in even after the AR mode is existed. I think this is critical for accurate positioning and data and act as a secondary calibration method. This will also allow for a fix when the on-device compass goes out of wack and will allow manual compass adjustments..Version: 6.7.6

✓ Good but could be betterAfter 3 weeks, I’ve found some flaws. 1) I don’t like how much area the ground takes up when I hold the phone perpendicular, I wish it occupied less space on the screen. 2) I wish in the settings I could change km to miles. 3) when I tap the screen for a star I can’t get its name to go away without going to settings and resetting to original settings. ✓ Essential tool of the tradeBeen using it since Version 3. While not excited so much with Live Sky and observing lists setup (adds a bit more complexity vs previous versions), I have not used printed maps out on the field for more than 2 years and it has made star hopping a faster endeavour. I will be purchasing (as before) any new version that comes out as this app is by far the most important “accessory” in my astronomical gear. Plus when weather is not cooperating, spending time with this app is awesome. You learn stuff, stumble on new objects to observe and generally “compensate” for lack of actual observing to some degree - to work out the frustration of being indoors instead of out observing!.Version: 6.3.0

✓ SkySafari has always been a great app!09 Dec 2020 SkySafari has always been a great app for observational use as well as communicating upcoming events. I use it for myself as well as for others as a pointer for where to look for the events like yhis year’s closest conjunction between Saturn and Jupiter in 800 years. Along with this “emailed” info, I also like to show screen shots on a day by day basis 5 days befor and after the event like this. Unfortunately, on of the big drawbacks in automatically advancing and recording the animation is that the user does not have any control over how fast those increments jumps in time occur. I’d really like to see the fixed as a setting so it can be slowed down to a reasonable timelapse sequence, especially on increments larger than a minute. I resort to manually stepping thru while recording right now. If this was changed, I would not hesitate to this up to 5 stars. It is very close to that now..Version: 6.7.6

✓ Amazing Precision!With this wondrous app, you can go back 2000 or more years and see eclipses mentioned by the ancients exactly as they witnessed them! Sunrise and moonrise times are exact to the second. You can plan photographs to include alignments between celestial objects and monuments to the nearest 1/16 inch of tripod location. You can see how the precession of the Earth’s axis over 1000’s of years changed the view of of the night sky during the winter solstice. Phases of the moon are very realistic. Amazing number of exotic objects you can track, like the quasar 3C 273. And of course, fantastically precise placement of all celestial objects. ✓ DID I JUST GET RIPPED OFF?I bought the app SkySafari 6 and downloaded it to my iPhone. Later when I went back to the App Store to download it to my iPad, i noticed the note at the bottom telling me SS6 was an old version and SS7 was now available. THIS WAS THE SAME DAY! When I went over to the SS7 app, expecting to have access to to at least a reduced rate for an update to my BRAND NEW OUT OF DATE APP I was shocked to find that I’m expected to pay even more for 7 than I did for 6. If this is what it appears to be, it is outrageous. And not only will I NOT buy SS7, I will demand a refund for the obsolete version you sold me. I will wait patiently for a reply. ✓ Update problemI updated the app and now it will not go into [AR] in compass mode does nothing. So now I’m using SkyPortal to view the sky in [AR] mode. ✓ Good Astronomy App, but not X/XS FriendlyThis is mostly a great app. I particularly like the wealth of information provided about various celestial objects. The interactive Hertzsprung-Russell diagram (an in app purchase) is fun also. That being said, at a $20 base price, I’d hope that the developers would be more responsive in keeping it up to date with modern iPhones. The app has not been updated to account for iPhone X/XS “notch”, which has been around for over a year now and isn’t going away. Text in the UI is constantly obscured by the notch. Come on, folks! Connecting the app to the scope using wifi, alignment, & finding objects in the sky using the app is very simple. The app provides a ton interesting information for those wanting to learn about the universe. The app is well worth the money. ✓ Not good for scope orientationIf your buying this app to orient your telescope be aware the app is only as good as the phone compass, in the case of the new IPhone X it useless the phone often gives me the message phone can’t find true north and it’s pointing towards magnetic north is also out by more than a few degrees. Most of the time I’ll point it north and it tells me I’m looking south east. This version is a great disappointment as previous versions I’ve used worked reasonably Well. Sad!!.Version: 6.2.2

✓ Sky Safari Pro, in the fieldThe program contains a wealth of information. Sky Safari Pro is useful both for preparing an astronomical viewing session, and also for use in the field for public viewing. There are many images of planetary and deep sky objects built into the program which are handy to use and are often in real time. This really helps with being able to preview the position of the moons of Jupiter for example, or the ability to know in advance whether the GRS (Great Red Spot) will be visible during the viewing session. This comment also applies to other planetary phenomena such as shadow transits, features on Mars, and other things. However all is not perfect. IMO, the images could be better quality. Many of them are of low resolution, which really subtracts from the pleasure and usefulness of viewing features on your device’s screen. This causes issues if one uses those images to explain details of assorted astronomical targets to guests in the field. Better quality images of objects are available - but not here. One has to research and download such images in advance if high resolution is desired. Such images can look much better and more interesting if done this way, but showing images outside Sky Safari adds another step which requires time and searching to find and use, which interferes with the viewing session. ✓ Alpha, maybe Beta - barelyNot happy. My first review was not posted because of bad language. Grow up, Apple. Not ready for prime time. Hangs permanently when a data transfer to or from LiveSky loses a connection. To use SS6 Pro again I had to restart the phone. LiveSky site uses WebGL, so doesn’t do well with Safari. LiveSky site is not ready, and has serious updating issues. SS6 has slewing problems with Celestron NexStar Evolution WiFi, just like the predecessors, and you just have Celestron pointing fingers at SS, and SS pointing fingers at Celestron, just like before. Sky Safari 6 Pro needs a lot of attention. Looks like it won’t be ready for quite a while. The developers need a better release strategy, because this thing will ruin their reputation..Version: 6.0.1

✓ Great but version 6 could have been betterI have been a SkySafari Pro user since version 3. As an amateur astronomer and astrophotographer, I consider this app an essential tool for planning targets for both outreach and imaging due to the convenience of having this powerful app on my phone. I consider this a 5 star app but am only giving 4 stars on version 6 for the following reasons and the upgrade experience could have been better. 1. I held off upgrading from 5 to 6 for a year. I expected most of the bugs to be wrung out by now but when I upgraded after taking advantage of the 50% off, I found an existing basic feature in 5 not working in 6 and one of the new key selling point features not working either. SC is aware of these issues and have already fixed one and will be coming out with a fix for the other soon in 6.6.3. 2. The new features since 5 did not seem to be worth upgrading. Augmented Reality is probably the most interesting one but I am not sure how useful it will be to me. The voice control is all but useless. The reorganization of the toolbar seems to be an improvement but I am still trying to get used to it. The planner and graph are fairly simplistic but may be of some use to me. The main reason for my upgrading is to get the latest supported version. I am still a very happy SkySafari user and am just offering my review as constructive criticism..Version: 6.6.2
✓ IncreadibleI’m using this app to control a Celestron 8” EdgeHD on an AVX German Equatorial Mount. The Network interface is via Celestron’s SkyPortal WiFi adapter. This app is a huge improvement over Celestron’s own hand controller. The alignment is process is faster, and the tracking accuracy has been excellent. The app has improved my entire astronomical experience with a wealth of data and having the ability to customize the “scope display” using the exact specifications of my gear. This is also great for simulating the FoV of various eyepieces and imaging equipment for possible future purchases, and for planning imaging session dates & times. The telescope controls are smooth and everything works great. I can certainly tell that some serious effort has been put into this app. The only changes I could suggest would be to enlarge the telescope directional buttons. With a hand controller, you can feel the buttons physically, and it’s easier to direct the scope without having to come off the eyepiece to look at the hand controller. Having these controls on screen makes it a little more difficult to make small finely-tuned adjustments..Version: 6.2.0
✓ One of the best available - but having some problems with in-app upgradesThis is a remarkable tool and is definitely great for serious stargazers as well those new to the hobby. However, as mentioned by others, the in-App purchases look to be very interesting, but have problems installing correctly. For instance, I purchased the Apollo Missions add on and, despite my best efforts, it still won’t launch. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the whole app and still no success. Maybe it’s not compatible with Apple’s newest OS? Who knows. But I am unable to get any support from the developers in the forum. At this point, I wished I could get a refund. It‘a not much money...but it is the principle. They need to remove them until the problem is fixed..Version: 6.8.0

Spend the extra dough and go deep get the Pro version-no regrets here. 17.2 mag. limit works for galaxy imaging. Little things like instantly creating observing lists, by category, with all the data will save hours and hours-great images in the database too. Every freakin’ little star-tap it, it’s got a story. Largest database I’ve ever seen. This app is the first step to iPad control of my GOTO LosmandyGM811 (C11). Have yet to control mount but the interface appears simple. Elegant and intuitive. ✓ Fantastic AppI use SkySafari to run my telescope over WiFi. The voice activation is fun. The program is easy to use and the interface is well thought out. This version has the audio descriptions of objects which is nice. You can observe the object and just listen to the audio to learn more about it. You can't, because you laid it out against "Superview" (screen edge) instead of "Safe Area" (so it isn't blocked by the swipe-up-to-exit bar). Easy fix. I wonder if the last row of the table has the same bug. I TRIED to report this to SimC's support forum, but with both Safari and Firefox on iOS 13 the site balks over some kind of cookie voodoo I don't run into anywhere else. ✓ A must for GOTO telescope ownersI hardly ever write reviews but felt I had to for this software is brilliant. I use it with a Nexstar 8SE, SkyFI 3 & Starsense Auto align Camera. I purchased this as an upgrade to the free celestron skyportal app which is a barebones version off this. I originally used it with a Celestron Skyportal WiFi dongle but after many disconnects with my set up in skyportal and this I moved to the Skyfi which is totally worth the extra cash to not have to sit out in the dark faffing about with connection issues or crashes due to the celestron wifi dongle. It would be a bonus if you could carry out starsense auto align and control a focus motor with this and the Skyfi but to be fair I’ve found the set up for starsense via the hand controller then connecting to Skyfi with this app much more accurate. £19.99 in my opinion is more than a fair price for this app and if the devs were to release the functionality to starsense auto from within the app using Skyfi 3 then I’d gladly pay for it as an extra. ✓ Don’t bother......its a downgrade instead of an upgrade. They’ve taken away iCloud storage and want you to store you configuration settings on their servers for a FEE now. You guys are NOT telling the truth and I’ll be telling Apple to PULL this from the store. There will be a FEE now to provide the SAME level of functionality I have w/iCloud between my Mac and iOS. There’s no seamless way to move all your lists (equipment/observing) from V5 to V6. Your target audience is small ... and making upgrades unmanageable will result in an even *smaller* audience. ✓ Learning Astronomy Day By DayGreat app to help me learn Astronomy. Very daunting app that is very comprehensive. I have noticed that the calculation for Lunar age is off by around 9 hours?! Not sure why? Maybe the makers can comment here. Also the synch with my iPhone compass seems very glitchy. I end up manually moving the sky. ✓ Heaven AboveI’ve always wanted a telescope to view the worlds beyond our own. Given I can’t afford my own Hubble...I’ve found lots of fun with SkySafari Pro app. I’m able to locate items and review information about them. I live less than 2 miles from the beach...providing a reasonably dark environment. SkySafari Pro lets me identify unknown objects by simply pointing my phone at the object and learn as much or as little about it as I want. SkySafari is a great beach party tool as well. When you settle down for listening to the waves and watching the glittering objects above...this app often replaces the campfire. ✓ Observing log syncingI have had Sky Safari since launch. I control my various Go-To telescopes with it on my iPad or iPhone depending on which telescope I am using. If I complete an observation entry on my iPhone unfortunately it does not automatically sync with my iPad etc. I have to go through hoops to make it so. Lost so many logs over the years as I upgraded my iphones. WHY CAN YOU NOT FIX THIS? I mean, while observing at the scope in the dead of night I use voice memos on my Apple Watch to describe what I am seeing. When I go indoors and pick up my iPad the voice memos are magically transferred making them easy to edit and transcribe to the observation log on sky safari where I will lose them when I upgrade!! They should sync also. For God sake it’s 2020, please sort this..Version: 6.6.4
✓ Sky Safari 6 ProThis is my main application at the eyepiece of any scope! From a 80mm refractor, all the way up to 20” light buckets. This application help me find Pluto, identify moons of Saturn, Uranus & Neptune and many other gems of the night sky — and come to think of it, daytime skies too. Are use the observation lists To keep track of what I have seen and other observational tools (ie: AstroPlanner) to keep track of the deeper details. ✓ Best astronomy app gets updatedIt’s a great app. The reasons to upgrade from version 5 remain a bit of a mystery until the devs unveil livesky which, to get full use of, is a paid service. Until then you do get better planning software, along with the chance to pay for a bigger database DLC which is a nice option. The devs have produced the best astronomy app for IOS devices but it still lacks some features. It is low on customisation options for how the stars are displayed (brightness, size range /contrast would be nice), label font/colour, constellation line colours (you are stuck with a hard to read grey for constellations and deep space catalogue items) There is no option for custom horizons or simulated light pollution so there’s no way to simulate the what you can see if your local sky. IMO this is not able to replace more powerful desktop software packages but, for something that fits in your pocket, it is a quite amazing piece of software to have under the stars..Version: 6.0.0

Often times during a search one of Tonight’s Best is below the horizon never to rise. ✓ I come back to this app often 😍I love this app!!! My fav thing about it is the level of customization that I can apply, depending on how I'm using it on a given night (or day). One caveat though. Once in awhile information about an object may seem a little off. So confirm with multiple sources. That doesn't bother me because I love researching and picture surfing anyway. A recent example is the object known as SagDEG. My version of SkySafari Pro has it as 46,000 light years from Earth. Elsewhere, it is thought to be 70,000 light years from Earth (which seems more likely to me for a couple of reasons). But get the app, enjoy it, and dig deep into the info. Let SkySafari be your guide, and the vast night sky will astonish you over and over again..Version: 6.8.5

✓ A learning curve over version 5 but I’ve come to really like itLots of issues with having used 4 and 5 over this one. Once I realized that the UI had been rearranged, I slowly started learning it. It still doesn’t import previous version equipment but with the new online storage model, that should be a thing of the past. I really love where things I add to the observing lists sync to all my other devices. It never did that before and I was perplexed because I was using cloud storage. ✓ There Is No OtherThe amount of information, calculations, and corresponding graphics output (or telescope control) being done (in the palm of your hand), is mind-boggling! And yet, the controls are well implemented and intuitive. Plus, for all this, its cost is amazingly economical! If only we had another “Einstein” to make use of all this technology, and take that next “giant leap” in our theories. I fear, though, that someone like him would never be heard in today’s science, which has become almost as dogmatic as the medieval church. Only one scientist, in all the science shows I’ve watched, has CORRECTLY said that “true science” is about being “wrong” as well as about being “right”! Almost every other scientist has said something like: And we sat on our findings for a year or two, and recalculated them over and over again, for fear of making a mistake and being “wrong”. Most common human endeavors are NOT competitions (especially science), as TV and the Internet would have us believe. We really do all live on this tiny “blue dot” together! Spend just a few minutes with this app, and you’ll get all the proof you need for Carl Sagan’s comment, said so long ago about the Voyager I photograph of the planets..Version: 6.5.0

With skyfi adapter or synscan wifi adapter works well with both. Heq5 pro sct c8 and bits and bobs. Would still be peering through polar scope and punching keys on a handset without this.
