NHS App for Positive User Reviews

Mostly GoodI am a 59 year old, reasonably IT competent individual and recently diagnosed cancer sufferer. Previously when using the app it’s mainly been for occasional GP services - view medical record, book an appointment, order repeat prescription etc. and this was frustrating, not for app development reasons, but because I could see so much functionality and opportunity my GP Practice clearly wasn’t using so they and I were missing out on its full potential. Now engaged with secondary care, hospital appointments etc, I’m benefitting from letters and appointments coming via the app. Being able to add these directly to my calendar, download letters for my employer etc is great and facility to cancel or change an appointment is fantastic. However again, I discover even within the same NHS Trust, certain departments say, ‘oh we don’t use that’. So the wig & hair Team, the Team making extra appointments for the clinical trial I’m in… Then, despite the App and me fully interacting with it. I am being sent every letter by post too - what a complete waste of money and time! So 4 out of 5 because the take-up is so patchy by the supposedly stretched NHS and in several areas, if they embraced the App for all those patients who can use it, they’d be less stretched..Version: 2.39.0

Love this app - hit and miss where you liveI don’t normally do reviews but having seen some of the amazingly idiotic reviews and those clearly done from “bots” looking to just rubbish this useful tool, I felt I had to share my experience. It isn’t all I need for myself and my family. But it’s the best I can get right now. I love the appointment management and I think we are lucky as I can also do some things people say that can’t in other areas. To be fair not sure I would expect the nhs England app to work in Russia or Malaysia anyway! Tw@ts Please keep improving it and well done so far. Much better than tpp and EMIS rubbish (plus they seem to state they take my data?).Version: 2.16.0

Well Done!! useful little app!!It’s simple to use and great little reference too and a quick and easy way to book and manage your appointments with your GP However still a few niggles as the postcode finder facility needs updating more regularly as I can’t use this because it’s not been updated to include new postcodes over the last six months or more that’s a lot of people in new build homes with addresses with the wrong postcode held with NHS it’s not just your app but the NHS system as whole I know but it’s you job to make sure everything is up to date on there side so your app is giving correct information to your client base! Otherwise though well done fantastic work!!.Version: 1.29.0

Good in theory...Not much use for me. No access to medical records or appointments or prescriptions. Everything is under the control of the GP practice, apparently, which in my case means I can't actually use this app at all. All that palaver uploading video and ID was a waste of time, since nobody, including me, can actually do anything once logged into in. Update: Thank you for your response. There’s nothing wrong with the app. But the way it’s described, and the name, makes it sound like it should work for all NHS patients. It doesn’t. The app can’t show me my medical information, and I can’t book appointments. It’s the same as on the “Patient access” website. I assume the app is just an app-ification of the website. If that was made clear in the description, I wouldn’t have bothered installing it. Deleted now. Thanks anyway. Would be good if it was for everyone - maybe someday. Update 2: The app can show you your NHS number. Useful for those of us who have slackly never made a note of it. Added a star for this. Final update: Changed GP practice (for unrelated reasons). The new practice allows patients to book appointments, request prescriptions, and see their medical records. I've bumped it up to five stars..Version: 1.36.1

Quick, consent driven and reliableUsed the app for years and it just gets better. Having so much data to hand is a revelation - the pharmacy didn’t have my prescription, but seeing NHS number and prescription history on the app meant staff could give me meds within 10 minutes! Most negative reviews relate to wider NHS issues, people need to focus on what this is - a mobile app, not the entire Department for Health. Considering the failure of digitalisation in the 2000s, this is outstanding. Other countries charge far more and deliver less, go private if this irks you so much. This app has done everything I’ve needed and is far, far better than any GP website or spending hours on the phone. Keep it up!.Version: 2.23.0

Very good app- still in developmentI fail to see why people are criticising this app. Easy to set up. It is clearly a work in progress and will be added to as we go along. Just being able to book an appointment takes so much pressure off the surgeries. Yes, reasons are limited at the moment but I’m sure as time goes on it will be populated more. Just think only a short while ago we had nothing like this and it’s very clear to see people (as they always do in the nhs) are working hard to make it work and I’m confident it will. Just think for all the neurotics, you can look up any ailment without being bombarded after with google adds, a big plus. The point about more medical information is quite right, I should think the surgery (gp) will need your permission to fully release what they are allowed to so thats something you personally need to deal with. I’m well impressed with it and it will get better. I’m sure in time all hospital correspondence (appointment/reminders) etc will be geared through this app. Just give it time. Bravo Zulu to the NHS 👍.Version: 1.38.0

Nice job NHS!Just set this up for my 83 year old mother. Only took a few minutes to do. Wow! All her records right there - meds, test results, consultations - even pdf of the physio exercises she needs to do! Great for the elderly that may not remember details well. Thank you for a super valuable app that is integrating information across many backend systems!.Version: 4.0.0

Already quite good, but more neededI am new to the UK. I had no idea that this app existed, there was no marketing at all at my (new) GP practice. So I ran into a messy situation about a repeat prescription that could have been sorted if I’d known about the app. Recommendation 1: please market the app, especially to people with new NHS numbers. It’s nice that the app lists GP prescriptions. It’d be much more awesome if it could do pill reminders and check-offs. Bonus points for being timezone aware for those who travel a lot (use UK time for reminders no matter what timezone the phone thinks it’s in) Recommendation 2: optional pill reminders and check-offs based on prescriptions My hospital stuff doesn’t seem to come through at all into the app. I think that this might need some regulatory push, but ending the data islands within the NHS for end-users of the service at least, might be a good place to start to give hospitals and GPS access to my holistic situation (with my permission of course) Recommendation 3: force hospital trusts to share critical data into whatever the NHS app uses as a data source, with easy opt-in for the user A good start!.Version: 2.36.0

BasicSo this app is great for ordering repeat prescriptions. It’s supposed to show your medical notes, but what it shows is pretty basic. You won’t see the in-depth letters consultants send to GPS etc, but it does have a basic overview. The medical notes part is dependable on your own GP surgery- how much detail they want to show and if anyone has actually typed up your paper notes. Mine hasn’t so I am missing 30 years of significant history. But this is not the fault of the app, but just the NHS system. However, this has alerted me to the fact that no GP will see that part either, unless I point it out, but the notes or stored on paper somewhere in a cupboard at the GP and I doubt they will ever be read again! What I would really like to see, and would’ve really helpful NHS app team- is my exemption certificate. It would be great if it was like the covid pass that I can show, with an expiry date so I know when to renew it. Thank you for the developer standard response, who obviously did not read my review. What a shame. Don’t expect any improvements soon..Version: 3.1.0

Well done NHS!Registration was fairly straightforward as I knew my NHS number and had my passport to hand. The thorough registration process I found reassuring because it means the NHS has been very careful about who can access my personal information. They need to know I am who I say I am! Once in the app - I now just need to use my thumbprint to get in it - I am genuinely delighted that I am able to book a GP appointment on my phone at a time when it suits me... I even got an emergency appointment within the hour by just looking on the app! I have also successfully booked and cancelled blood test appointments, ordered a prescription and registered to be an organ donor. It’s exciting to think that these basic features are only the beginning of the app for the NHS. I look forward to seeing what new things it will be able to do in the future, I’m also looking forward to be able to add my young daughter to my account. Well done NHS, and thank you. 💙.Version: 1.13.0

Works well for meI only downloaded it so I could access an online pharmacy to order and receive (by post) medications. Was a bit fiddly to set up but works well in conjunction with the pharmacy. If people are moaning about not having their full records showing, or that they can't book appointments, remember that this is down to your GP surgery, not this app. It's down to the surgery to decide what information you can see and whether or not you can book appointments via the app. At the moment, most surgeries only offer a phone triage initially anyway. I'm surprised that so many people are whinging because they have to provide 2 forms of ID to register (photo & short video). Obviously this is to make sure the right person is getting access to sensitive, personal information. You should be glad of it! It's not a game you're downloading..Version: 1.54.5
