What is Bark Kids? Description of Bark Kids

Bark Kids is the free child companion app for both Bark and Bark Jr. To use it, you’ll need to have an established Bark account and install Bark Kids on your child’s device. Here are the features this app enables:

SCREEN TIME MANAGEMENT

Families can set healthy time limits and create schedules for when their children’s devices can connect to the internet (through both cell service and Wi-Fi).

WEB FILTERING

Our web filter lets you select which websites your child can access on their devices. You can allow or block specific sites — or even whole categories like streaming services, online gaming, sexual content, and more.

GPS-POWERED LOCATION TRACKING

Bark’s robust location tracking enables you to track your child in real time on a map. You can even find out if they’re stationary, walking, biking, or moving in a car.

CHECK-INS

Check-Ins are an easy way for families to get peace of mind when their kids are out and about. Rather than sending a "Did you get there?" or "Where are you?" text, you can rely on a GPS-based location confirmation from your children to verify that they've safely arrived at their destinations. It can even give you step-by-step directions via Google Maps so you can meet them where they are if necessary.

PERSONAL ACCOUNT CONNECTIONS

The Bark Kids app allows kids to connect their own accounts to Bark’s monitoring service (not available with Bark Jr). By allowing them to connect directly to our monitoring service, they get more privacy without having to share their usernames or passwords.

WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING

- "My wife and I LOVE Bark. We've had some tough but productive conversations with our 13-year-old son. It's proving to be extremely valuable." — Josh L.

- “It’s just another set of protections we as parents give our kids for the digital environment (or as my 10-year-old calls it, a “cell phone seat belt”). My oldest is a 9th grader, and while I trust her, I’ve come to realize through the alerts that some of her friends aren’t truly her friends. It’s led to some amazing conversations about choosing friends wisely and recognizing toxic people. While she wasn’t for Bark at first, she’s since said she’s grateful that I saw those messages because it reaffirmed what she was feeling but didn’t know how to verbalize without sounding sensitive.” — Bark Parent

- "Bark notified me that my young daughter had unknowingly revealed her phone number to strangers on Twitter. The fact that Bark notified me was impressive and led to an informative discussion with her the same day." — Jon B.

- “Since Bark alerted us to the suicidal language used in the Google doc that was being used in a chat document with a friend, we have seen both a pediatrician and a licensed counselor. We are hopeful for a positive outcome. Thanks to Bark for letting us peek into our child’s mind!” — Bark Parent

- “This app is a lifesaver! It has allowed us to catch so many “red flags” in the content my kids have accessed on their devices and in their interactions with friends and other people online that I wouldn’t have ever known about otherwise. The big difference between Bark and other “Parental Control” software is that Bark allows your kids to have so much more privacy. It doesn’t show you everything they do, but sends an instant alert regarding any activity that might be concerning. Highly recommended!” — Bark Parent

With Bark, you can help keep your kids safe both online and in real life. Try it out for seven days absolutely free!

Bark Kids Pros

THIS IS A GREAT APP CONCEPTYes you need privacy as a kid, bring it up with your parents like a grown up if you want to be treated like one. Your parents are protecting you from the worst of society and you don’t even understand yet because as the saying goes you don’t know what you don’t know. Your parents love the crap out of you and they want to make sure that their naive little babies don’t die. When you get your own phone with your own bill that you pay for you will have privacy..HxaldhjwkckelahcVersion: 3.4

Teen POVMy parents found this app to help with a personal situation involving inappropriate ads constantly showing up on my phone, and it was almost unavoidable with the pictures and words and everything that a younger teen shouldn’t be exposed to at that age. Many other incidents encouraged my parents to download this, and I’m very glad they did. The only problem is that bark is a little too sensitive without the right settings, and for a while I practically couldn’t do anything on my phone. I had it like this for 2 years, and I feel like even after I begged them to change it just a little bit for a long time, they still didnt, and again I’m happy they waited. It made me super careful about searching online. Now that I’m older it’s become just a tiny bit harder, but now that bark is practically non existent and only alerts my parents for super bad stuff now (after a good amount of research to figure it out, making the only reason I only put 4 stars is because of the complexity of the settings). I feel like the settings should start off strong but gradually become more relaxed as a child matures. This app really helped me it my case, and I encourage parents to not look at the 1 star reviews by (cough cough) irresponsible kids (cough), but go by their gut, because even though a child can be right in some cases, a parent knows more about the safety of their child than the child themselves in some cases..Bigfan_uslessstufVersion: 3.3

Bark Kids Cons

Parents, save your relationship with your kidsFrom a kids perspective this would completely ruin my life. I already had it. It’s terrible. Every movement, every button you tap on your phone is recorded and sent to your parents. With this app, kids feel like their privacy is being taken away, and it makes them hate their parents. Privacy is an important thing. I get it if the child is doing not-so-good things, but for absolutely no reason or because your “Facebook friends have it” doesn’t mean their kids love them as much as they say. Parents always say things like that. Overall what I am trying to say is apps like this will ruin the relationship between you and your children. No one likes their privacy being breached. Think of it from your point of view as parents are always telling us. they don’t. Do not get unless you want your kids to hate you (if they tell their friends, more kids hate you now. Think about non technical communication. That’s a thing.) DO NOT GET UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR CHILDREN TI HATE YOU AND RUIN YIUR RELATIONSHIP FOR A LONG TIME..RobamaramaVersion: 3.5.1

It screws my social life and itselfIt’s purpose will be its downfall. It deleted itself from my phone, but still works somehow. Same with my iPad. Not only that, but it reads my texts and sends the slightest little things to my parents. Last week my friend sent me a text about how his teacher told a kid to shut up and sit down. My parents got a message about “bullying.” Yes, a teacher telling a kid who can’t stop talking to shut up is bullying. <—— sarcasm* I can’t talk to my friends without my parents getting messages and needing to lock my phone down for things that aren’t even that serious. If you were walking down the street and you saw a group of friends all talking about somebody that annoys them, you don’t email there parents about there children being bullies, right? Count the characters in this review and make it a negative number to see just how little farks I give about the reasons that this exists. This is like Study Island. It barely works, but only the people who employed it actually notice. Everyone else is just too confused and angry to notice. My parents have completely given up on this app, and now don’t even read the messages it sends..Iwaswronglyaccusedonthisapp(2)Version: 3.6.4
