Proton Drive: Cloud Storage for Positive User Reviews

What about a FIDO?I’d love to be able to use my Yubico keys to lock down my proton apps too!.Version: 1.6.0

No searchCannot search for a file or folder in the app..Version: 1.15.0

Great, but very bare bonesI am glad proton brought proton drive to iOS! But the app is way behind other apps that are similar. One thing I wish proton will put in the app is video streaming. I don’t like having to “download” the video just to view it. That takes up to much space on your device. When you have a video that is large it can take awhile to download. I just want to keep it in the cloud and stream it when I want to view a video file..Version: 1.3.3

Good and getting better. So far it’s nice to have a safe place to keep my files that’s encrypted in travel and at rest. All I need to completely switch over from iCloud Drive is sure photo sync and I can make it my new main cloud storage..Version: 1.3.3

Solid Drive AppI use all the Proton products and I’ve been waiting a long time for the iOS Drive app. It gets the job done. Looking forward to improvements and additional features..Version: 1.3.3

ExcellentEverything works and synchronises perfectly. Many new features are yet to come, but I am especially looking forward to Proton Drive app for MacOS with native support for Apple Silicon..Version: 1.3.3

Great appMuch better than Google drive.Version: 1.15.0

A good V1First impressions are good. A bit worried the irreversible “delete account” button is so easy to access. Will I lose my entire account with a few accidental pocket taps? I’m not about to press it and find out!.Version: 1.15.0

Excited for the future5 star foundation. Excited for automatic sync! Keep it up ❤️.Version: 1.3.3

Barebones but functionalI’m being a little generous in my star rating because I believe in Proton and their mission. This app is missing a lot of features, but it will allow you to upload your files and picture to your encrypted cloud storage. There’s no sync and delete just yet but hopefully that’s coming soon.Version: 1.4.0

Finally!Thank you for finally releasing this on iOS! I’ve been a long-time paid subscriber to proton services. Very happy to have a mobile app..Version: 1.3.3

Excellent appIt is excellent to see Proton release a cloud storage option. Even better that it’s included in the Proton Unlimited bundle – what a bargain! I am so glad to finally be rid of Google Drive. I am very much enjoying the knowledge that my data are not being mined for every last scrap and morsel of information to feed a multibillion dollar multinational advertising network..Version: 1.15.0

Decent but lacks some functionalityGreat start to the Proton Drive app! Something that I’d love to see implemented that others have done is the ability to modify text files directly from the app. Having the ability to click on a text file, open it in a built-in text editor, modify the contents, then clicking done/save which will upload those changes automatically would extremely useful!.Version: 1.3.3

Great appGreat app and service, but would benefit from being able to be saved to directly, rather than through the Files interface..Version: 1.8.0

Not many choices out there for real privacyIf you can afford to subscribe a little why not? Without our financial support these organisations wont acheive their goal of protecting privacy. If you can afford it, splurge on them and give a kick in the balls to fascistbook and googley eyes.Version: 1.15.0

Need moarBasic functions work, haven’t found any bugs. Hopefully the $100/year I pay helps them develop more features like auto sync..Version: 1.3.3

Good but could do with some tweaksThis app works well, files and photos load fast and they can be accessed offline. I would however suggest making it possible to scroll to the next or previous file rather then having to close it down and select the next one. I would also like to see the ability to change the order of files and folders. That aside it works great. By change the order of files I mean being able to sort them in any order you wish. I see they can be sorted by file size, last modified, A-Z ect but to be able to order them yourself in any order you wish. This option may be available and I just haven't worked it out but if not that would be a good addition..Version: 1.4.0

A Great StartI know that building a platform like this is no walk in the park. That being said, ProtonDrive is off to a great start. Still needs work. Especially related to uploads. I should be able to upload more than 10 files at a time. Uploads also randomly fail..Version: 1.3.3

Feature suggestionI would love to be able to sync my photos to Proton Drive from my iPhone automatically. They have this feature in OneDrive, I would love to get away from them and utilize this as my solution. Unless I am completely missing this while using the app?.Version: 1.15.0

Updated ReviewReached out to the support team which was very helpful and was able to regain access to the app..Version: 1.15.0

Another Great Proton AppFollowing in the footsteps of their previous work, a solid end-to-end encrypted service. The ability to share a link accessible by others with the password for specific folders, and putting time frames that access is granted is fantastic. Definitely still room to grow, but this fills the core functions. I am sure there is a reason for it, but having a 10 item limit when uploading seems a bit harsh. My beat guess is it has to do with Apple still not handling background tasks well and long uploads would cause time-outs and thus higher failure rates. Meaning servers are have more wasted time. Thank you again for these services..Version: 1.12.0

Need Sheets, Docs & SlidesHello, Please provide Proton sheets, docs and slides as soon as possible. I am unable to transfer my business to Proton until then. And other solutions do not offer this privacy. Thank you, 5 Stars.Version: 1.15.0

Finally on iOSLove it. I’m so happy you included face unlock with this release, and always looking forward to watching your apps progress..Version: 1.3.3

Yes! Get it now! Subscribe! Can’t wait for desktop version and auto sync features. Everyone pay for a membership you can afford..Version: 1.3.3

Currently a bit barebonesThere isn’t much other than downloading and viewing files but we will see what the future brings..Version: 1.3.3

Excellent serviceA great service the world desperately needs. i’m overjoyed there’s finally a convenient app for it..Version: 1.4.0

Awesome Dropbox alternative/supplementI am a big fan of Drive. It has become my photo storage place so I imagine auto photo device upload and delete from device could be a wanted feature in development. The interface now is pretty solid as is.Version: 1.15.0

Glad there’s an app but it doesn’t show up in the share optionGlad there is an app for ProtonDrive but why don’t I have the option to share files to it using the regular share method? The only way I seem to be able to get files in ProtonDrive is by importing files from inside the app. If I have other PDF’s or files that I want to save I can’t get it in ProtonDrive easily. Too bad..Version: 1.8.0

Minimalist for now.I'm excited the app is here, even if it's barebones right now. I do want to see integration into the share sheet, there is a workaround to save the content to the iOS files app and upload to Proton Drive from there but native sharing will be very welcomed. Thanks Proton..Version: 1.3.3

I’ve stopped using OneDrive, but improvements are still neededSince Proton released their Proton Drive app for Mac I’ve been able to transfer all of my files from OneDrive to Proton Drive, and it works great. However, one or two improvements are still needed. The biggest one for me is the ability to “Share” files straight into Proton Drive on iPhone, rather than having to download it to your iPhone storage first before uploading it to Proton Drive. All the major cloud storage apps have this feature, and it’s strange that Proton Mail does appear as an option when you share a file on iPhone. Perhaps it’s just my iPhone, but Proton Drive doesn’t appear as an option when you try and edit which apps appear as options when you share a file. Another feature that would be really useful is the ability to sync your photos with Proton Drive. Again, this is a feature that all the other major cloud storage apps offer, so it would be great if Proton did too. The benefits of Proton Drive still vastly outweigh these minor inconveniences, but the product would be 5 stars when the developers add these features and the features that others have mentioned..Version: 1.15.0

Great, but could use some improvementsA few things I’d like to see implemented: Currently, PDF’s have the page overview on the left 1/8 of the screen; being able to have the sheet you’re working on occupy 100% of the screen would be great. DropBox has such a feature, for example. Whenever you open another folder, the screen starts in the up, refresh position. You have to wait for it to refresh and settle before selecting your folder or risk hitting the wrong one because the screen moved down at an inopportune moment. Another means of signifying that the app is refreshing its contents which doesn’t hinder file selection would be better. Right now, if I want to go through 3 folders to one file, I effectively have to wait for every folder I click through to refresh even if no changes were made. Being able to save files straight to proton drive on iOS would be great. Right now I often have to download to iOS files and then import to proton drive. Just a redundancy I’d like to see eliminated. Also, if you have a PDF open and you go to the iOS Home Screen on a different app, proton drive often either loses your place or ctd’s..Version: 1.15.0

The refresh process is painfully slow, but I believe in the Proton mission.I have been using this since it was released from beta last year. To be honest, it is slow. As each folder is opened, the app has to refresh the sub folders/ files located in the folder that was just opened. This process can be painfully slow; sometimes taking 10 to 15 seconds. The more photos that are stored in Drive, the slower the refresh time. I am using the latest iPad and iPhone with all updates performed, so I don’t believe it is my devices. Plus, I have sen other folks complaining about the same problem. I understand that the servers are located in Germany and Switzerland and I also understand that due to the encryption process, there will be some delay. However, the delay is so bad that I am still stuck storing my photos on OneDrive. Until this refresh delay issue is fixed, I cannot use Proton Drive as my exclusive cloud storage service. With all of that being said, I believe in the Proton mission and I use their suite of apps. I buy a yearly subscription and do my part to financially support them. Their products are constantly getting better and so I believe that in time, this app will function at a level where I can use it as my sole cloud provider. I appreciate the fact that my data is end-to-end encrypted. I do know that they are in the process of updating the app to allow automatic photo sync. At some point, they do need to add the ability to scroll between photos. If you have photos stored on Proton Drive, you have to open each individual photo to view them. We all need to be fair to Proton. We can’t have our cake and eat it too. I was attracted to the E2E/ online privacy features and so that is why I chose Proton. It is a start-up company and they are working hard to produce quality products. However, they don’t have the resources like Google, Microsoft, and Apple. So, it will take some time for them to tweak/tune/adjust their apps to perfection. If I am looking for speed, then I can use the Big Tech clouds; however, my data is not secure with them. If I am looking for security and privacy, then I need to stick with Proton, support them financially and give them the time to develop and perfect their products. In conclusion, I am using Proton Drive for all of my documents and personal data. I am still using OneDrive for my photos. Once Proton corrects the refresh speed issue with the iOS app, it will be my sole cloud provider. If you are using any of the Proton products, please consider paying for a subscription. Proton is funded solely off of subscriptions..Version: 1.15.0

Finally it’s in our handLong awaited for Proton Drive on iOS, but it was worth the wait, thank you Proton for keeping up with consumer demands for privacy.. definitely 5 stars for you!.Version: 1.3.3

GreatLove that this app is finally on iOS. Would much prefer it if you could save email attachments and alike directly into this app rather than having to save them to iOS’ Files and then import them into Proton Drive. Or is this possible and I just haven’t worked it out? 🤷🏻‍♂️ Still a great app though!.Version: 1.3.3
