ArtRage Vitae Mobile Painting for Negative User Reviews

Improvement over predecessorIt appears that Vitae is just a slightly less buggy/more stable version of the last iPad version of ArtRage. Rather than fix the last version, they charged for a new one. I wonder what they’ll call and charge for the next service patch..Version: 1.0.4

Better, but…This iteration of AR is an improvement with one significant UI flaw. The tool picker and color picker are clumsy. Worse, the tool picker can’t get out of its own way. It constantly pops onto the canvas, causing you to inadvertently switch tools. One second you’re using pastel, the next an airbrush. Annoying and distracting. Using a 2021 iPad Pro..Version: 1.0.5

Keeps crashing!Nice features but useless when app continues to crash and all progress is lost..Version: 1.0.5

Brush Presets DisappearEvery time I open and close the application the brush, canvas presets disappear and you have to reset each and every one each time. As you can imagine this gets tedious and monotonous and when working on projects your continuity and inspiration are hampered. I have mentioned this issue now for years as it is the same with ArtRage Pro version and they have yet to reply or rectify the problem. They are happy enough to take payment for the application so good business ethics would hope they would address any problems promptly..Version: 1.1.5

First Impressions, good could be better. The drawing / painting engine is good, however the experience of using the app needs work. It doesn’t appear to support pencil hover on iPad Pro, nor doubletap on the pencil’s side to change tool (eg to eraser, or even better a per-tool option so oil paint could be alternated with palette knife, etc). The app would benefit from some proper paper sizing controls - width & height in mm, combined with pixel density in dpi..Version: 1.1.4

A let downThe watercolor presets & brush behaviors are great. Though I had been hoping to get a drip behavior by tilting the iPad. The pencil is fine too. I just wish any other tools had been worth using. The oil brush and tube of paint tools are painfully bad. Their strokes are so, so cringe. Maybe it looks less horrible on a lower res screen? And who on earth thought a glitter tool was a good idea? Any app with a glitter tool is for kids - not for artists/professionals. Honestly at least half of the tools should be reworked or removed. Better to be rid of them than to keep a poor implementation. If I'd had the option to test the app first I wouldn't have chosen to purchase it after. After everything I had read about the desktop app, I had expected more..Version: 1.0.5

Poor optimisationI have used ArtRage for more than 10 years. This version is the same as the previous iPad version with a few minor additions. Not worth calling a new app! It is still the most laggy painting app out there, why haven’t they done anything about that? Surely if you release a new version it will work without lag, I have the latest iPad Pro! You cannot adjust the brush size with a slider, what an error, every app has that function! I hope they release some updates because it’s note worth buying as it stands..Version: 1.0.2

Seriously lackingProgram is not very user friendly -should be a two finger undo like every other painting program -also should have option for a blank white canvas -needs way more gesture controls All in all seriously lacking expected more from them as the computer version is great However one plus is the reference image option.Version: 1.0.4

Don’t waste your moneyArtRage has long been a favourite app of mine, but the old app was dated and badly in need of an upgrade to take advantage of today’s advanced devices. This is not that upgrade. Sure you get a bigger canvas (still tiny in comparison to other apps) and a few of the tools have an extra slider or two, but there is only one new tool (a cloner I have no use for), the ability to increase the brush size to 500 (although you have to type this in yourself, no convenient slider here) and that’s about it. An absolute and utter disappointment. They haven’t even bothered to implement the by now practically industry standard two tap undo. It’s just the same old clunky app complete with antiquated interface and gallery. I think it’s scandalous the developer chose to release this as a separate app at full cost and I don’t think I’ll buy from them again. There are several other, much more advanced, “traditional” painting apps out there that are worth your money. Oh and I know it’s “new”, but it’s buggy, really, really buggy, especially when you increase the brush sizes above 100%. All in all a poor show.....Version: 1.0.2

To many issues...I really want to enjoy this app but it has way too many bugs. The color picker doesn't work, the color picker eyedropper doesn't show up, brushes randomly don't work, some brushes randomly stop working, the canvas randomly flips around, the palette knives feel like they only work at 10%...And way more It's a mess.Version: 1.0.5

It has potentialI love ArtRage on Windows but would really love to be able to use the Apple pencil and iPad to draw. However not all of the key features are on Vitae for iPad yet so I hope the developers keep working at it. I would pay more if they included essential features like custom brush, brush designer, and stencils. But right now it doesn’t suit my needs since I need custom brushes and stencils to use this for what I really want (emulating traditional painting and calligraphy). We need to be able to control the brush shape and whether the brush angle is controlled by pencil tilt angle (azimuth)..Version: 1.0.5

I really want to like itI keep hoping artrage will impress me but I usually end up disappointed. Clunky U.I., lack of options, just O.K. Brushes that are often cumbersome to use and organized in a frustrating way. If you are a primarily traditional artist, and arent familiar with a lot of software, this might be good for you while you get used to digital art. But for me, an experienced digital artist, this is another letdown. Also, there is no excuse for not including 2 finger tap undo at this point. Its standard across many apps and it is SO frustrating when its not default, or an option..Version: 1.0.5

A good start … maybeWe’ve waited a long time for an ArtRage Mobile update. And we get this as a new program... not an update. Ok, you so maybe it was a re-write from the ground up. FWIW I use the desktop version and frankly it’s outstanding. This one ... lackluster.... I use a 10.5” IPad Pro with Apple Pencil I. Pros: ~somewhat larger canvas spaces ~Being able to make the tools larger than 100% also a con, see below. ~Option for real color blending on the color picker ~More settings for individual brushes ~More layer settings ~. Theres the clone tool which some may like. It doesn’t really do much for me. Overall - felt more like an update than a new version. Should have been transparent about that. Cons: ~Need a slider for the tool size that goes all the way up to the 500%. The slider going up to 100% then having to type in the tool size >100% is cumbersome. ~maybe it’s just me but I wasn’t getting much tilt response. I use the Apple Pencil. ~Need the saved files to appear in Files folders like other art apps. ~Of all the things to bring over from the desktop version we still can’t create our own custom brushes. ~ I understand there are some new touch gestures but I could figure them out. Maybe some help documentation would clear that up. Summary: It’s not horrible for the price paid for it, but it’s a little underwhelming from a company that produces such a good product for the desktop. I’m going to be optimistic and believe that this is a step in the direction of a really solid final product..Version: 1.0.2

Crashes delete gallery.Three times The app has crashed. Each time I lose all my work. I love the app. I hate the way it stores the work..Version: 1.0.5
