One sec | screen time + focus for Negative User Reviews

Would be 5 stars if there wasn’t a huge IOS 17 bug. When I open an app, one sec will bring up the journal, just to spam close and reopen the journal. This means I can’t type on it, as it just reopens and gets rid of my progress. Because of this, one sec is unusable. Even after I close all apps, it still spam reopens, making my phone unusable. The only solution is to reboot my phone. Please fix. It’s unusable, yet I still pay for it..Version: 3.5.4

Useful but expensive subscription and hampered by bugsVery helpful app to steer people away from pointless time wasting and doom scrolling – it has helped me cut time wasted on Facebook by over 90%. However, the content blocker plugin to stop you using Safari to get around the block is bugged and interrupts access to random unrelated websites – I had to turn that off. I would pay a reasonable amount (e.g. 5-10 pounds) for this app but charging a subscription is not reasonable for something that doesn’t deliver continuous new content, and 35 is just too much..Version: 3.1.1

Don’t waste your timeThis app uses shortcuts, which take a while to set up for each app (you have to set up a seperate shortcut for each app). Furthermore, the free version only allows you to use one shortcut… don’t waste your time, use another app. I used screenzen.Version: 3.3.6

BEWARE | CANNOT ERASE WEBSITE HISTORYI recently noticed that since having the app installed you are no longer able to clear your web history or data from Safari. On top of that, all Safari extensions are greyed out and cannot be used. This is somewhat alarming and had me panicking until I found out it was this app. Perhaps there’s a workaround… if not this has to be fixed immediately..Version: 3.2.2

App is kinda brokenLike most people here, i also struggled with mindlessly scrolling on instagram, but when i went to set up the intention reminder, i ended up scrolling for an hour, even though i had it set up to remind me after 5, 10, and 15 minutes. i then closed instagram, only to then get the reminder. i swiped up (to fully close instagram) but still got the 10 and 15 minute reminders after the app had been closed. it seemed that the app worked backwards. i tried turning off the reminders, but still got the notifications, and so i had to delete the app. very glad i didn’t buy the subscription like i was considering. luckily there are many apps similar to this one..Version: 3.3.6

Good until :(I like the concept of the deep breath before deciding to continue onto your app because it forces you to think clearer and screen time doesn’t do that, so it’s easy just to click “15 more minutes” or whatever, but i’m using the free version and i guess there was a bug? i didn’t know it could only apply to one app so while setting it up i applied it to instagram first, reddit second and then the app told me i could only apply it to one so i deleted my shortcut to reddit. now anytime i open instagram it doesn’t do the deep breath thing it just instantly takes me to a screen that tells me to upgrade to pro, which i don’t have the money for. even though i deleted then installed the app again to try to “reset” it, it just keeps telling me that i cant have it on two apps unless i have pro. the weird thing is, it only does the pro thing half the time, sometimes it actually work so i guess it’s a bug. i’m gonna keep the app for now to see if it’ll patch or something but it’s kinda frustrating just being taken to a “upgrade to pro” screen instead of taking a deep breath..Version: 3.2.1

It’s okayThis app, while limited in its free version, has helped me realize how much I use Instagram and led me to stop using it as much. However, there are some QoL things that are very annoying that drive my number up yet seem to only be fixable through the premium “intentional app switching” feature: • Answering a text - if a text appears as a notification and you swipe down to respond, the app reads this as you leaving the app and restarts one sec • Taking a screenshot - if you take a screenshot and tap it to crop / edit it, the app reads this as opening the photos app and makes you restart the one sec process after saving the screenshot. • Swiping up (task manager) - when you swipe up slightly on an iPhone to view the task manager, it shows a scrolling field of apps. If I am copying information from one app to the next, however, it reads me entering task manager as closing the app and requires a restart. • Changing profile picture (Instagram) - I haven’t been able to replicate this, but when I was changing my Instagram profile picture, my photo albums opened to show me choices. One sec read this (only this one time) as opening Photos and restarted one sec when I was done.Version: 3.3.6

Only one app allowedThe one app limit is revealed after setup which is sneaky. It’s kind of useless as a free app. I bet there is a way to make a free shortcut to a free meditation app which do the same thing. Setting it up is not so simple for someone who has never used shortcuts or IFTT..Version: 3.5.1

Cool, but…My breathing exercise is apparently “medium” (6 seconds), but takes 14 before I can click through to open an app. Someone forgot to count?.Version: 3.5.1

Doesnt work?I love this app on my phone and ipad, but on my macbook pro it doesnt seem to work. the app doesnt even open when clicked on! :(.Version: 1.1.2

Good app but…It’s a great app, works the way it’s intended and definitely stops/slows down how often you use an app. But setting more than a single app usage behind a paywall is definitely sus, I feel like at least 2 or 3 should be free.Version: 3.3.9

Redundancy in the app, please fixWould normally give 5 stars, but… Accidentally started a block session with only 2 apps selected (pretty useless for what I was going for) and the only option for the next hour is to pause it. No stopping it. All I want to do is block more apps. This is extremely redundant - I can still use the apps I wanted to block no problem, yet the only app I actually cannot use is the one sec app. The only app it blocked was itself. 0 way to crash it or restart the app to where I can reset the block session. I’m blocked from blocking apps… the whole purpose of one sec. Again, just very redundant as obviously I’m not doing it to get around anything, all I have to do is wait a sec and I can access the apps. Except for the one app I paid for and am blocked from using for an hour 🙄 Devs, please look into this. Seems like a massive oversight to me.Version: 3.5.6

Needs a proper trial optionI need to be able to link to multiple apps and try for a few days to see if it actually helps me..Version: 3.3.3

Loved it until it stopped workingI really loved this app, found it was super helpful, and even suggested to multiple people. However, I turned it off once and when I tried to turn it back on it is not working at all. I even deleted the app and redownloaded it, deleted the shortcuts and started all the way from the beginning but it doesn’t open!.Version: 3.3.8

Basic compared to the mobile versionVery basic compared to the mobile version of One Sec, but most annoyingly it doesn't seem to recognise a subscription to One Sec Plus when that subscription was activated on the mobile version of the app. I look forward to that being fixed so I can use the app across all devices.Version: 1.2

Fairly good app behind a paywall. You can only use this with one app with the free version and get zero extra settings. Seems stingy. The developers only respond to negative reviews if they can show the review is wrong. Considering they get such a tiny amount of negative reviews they could do better with peoples concerns. This app is actually good, despite having to go through an extensive set of instructions for every single app you want to use it with and the fact that you can only use it with a set number of apps meaning most games won’t work. (That last part might actually be apples fault though. You have to say which app you want opened after the one sec pause and shortcuts gives you a list)..Version: 3.3.6

Subscription breaks a nice ideaThe app itself seems fairly nicely focussed and does just what it says on the tin! A little delay before you open an app… the integration isn’t perfect, there are little pop ups from ‘shortcuts’ and you have to create the automations manually, but it seems worth it at this point… Then the shocker comes, to use it with more than one app you need to subscribe. Yep, that’s an ongoing payment just to play an animation before your app opens. It’s a shame, I would’ve happily paid a one off fee, but this feels like blatant profiteering..Version: 2.0.3

Unless you pay it’s counter productiveThey limit you to one restricted app, and even then no delayed switching so If you have to check a text quickly it makes you go through again. So much nagging to upgrade its counter productive to focus. If you’re willing to pay a premium great product but the limits are so strong I wish I never downloaded..Version: 3.5.2

Good concept but limited featuresI would have continued to subscribe to this app but you can't add apps or websites to your block list while in a block session, the app is completely locked down. I set my block session for 24 hours so had to wait the duration to make any changes. While I was learning to add the one sec extension to websites I had accidentally added the extension to Safari and couldn't use Safari for 24 hours, that was my bad but being able to excess the setting during a block would be helpful. Also, a timer to see how long your using apps when your not in a block session would have kept me more accountable..Version: 3.5.6

This app stopped working after 2 weeksI would not recommend this to anyone else because it wants you to switch to money bc I tryed everything to try to get it to work and it diddnt work I deleted and redownloaded it still didn’t work it is not recommended.Version: 3.5.1

Works wellDoesn’t allow you to move off the app and reopen it within a grace period without paying. Opened Instagram, got presented with the delay, then before I could enter it kicked me into one sec to ask me to rate/review - which restarted the Instagram delay. 🙃.Version: 3.5.1

MehFirst I got to say I am using the free version. It gives you one app to use the function for. Which is fine and I do not criticize. However, my two star review is mainly made up of for one it more often than not asks you to upgrade to pro instead of giving you the one deep breath exercise which makes me more annoyed than helps me to be more mindful. I didn’t know I could only have one app which is why I had a second app set up with it. The app then prompted me to either upgrade to pro or chose between the two apps. I chose and even deleted the action I said up in shortcuts but it will ask me now to choose between both apps or upgrade over and over again. Pretty annoying bug. And then, money might not be a factor for you, but it is for me, so this last point might be irrelevant; I do not understand what justifies the price of the app for the full version. $50 for a perpetual license is just not realistic for the average person, neither adding yet another subscription of $4 per month ($18.5 if you pay for the whole year up front). I really wish app creators would realize this. TL;DR I like the idea but it’s too buggy in general and too spammy with their subscription service which is also overpriced. I will just uninstall and go back to leaving my phone in a different room again..Version: 2.2

Pointless appFirst I thought this was great being able to block and delay social media apps until I realised all you have to do to bypass is go to shortcuts and disable automation!!! Now my brain knows that it can’t be unlearned! Five stars would be being able to add shortcuts to the block app and when you’ve done that can you add some of the UK papers like the Daily Mail which is the most commented news AP in the world. Thanks..Version: 3.4.2

Suddenly really buggyAs of today, on Instagram, this app is so buggy. i will just be scrolling watching a video and it re-triggers the one sec modal. I haven’t been able to keep the app open for longer than a minute today, really frustrating as i love this app and don’t want to disable it!.Version: 3.3.6

Developer out of his mindThe developer of this app has got to be out of their mind charging an insane price for this app. This is such a simple app, not using any backend server or any additional costly third-party services yet this app has a paid subscription, which costs an insane amount?? Like $20 a year?? How does that make any sense. I don’t mind paying for apps either, I have a lot of paid apps, but this subscription price makes no sense to me. This app should be $20 for a lifetime purchase, not $20 per year. $5per year sounds reasonable given the scope of this app. And yes, I’m aware it’s free if you only use one app, but it’s not very useful when you have so many social media apps you want to use it on, basically warranting this app useless unless you subscribe. It’s a cool app, nice idea, works well, but sadly this developer has completely lost his mind..Version: 3.5.6

Can't seem to close appI love this app on my iPhone but unfortunately having a lot of trouble with the MacOS app. It gets stuck on the restore purchase window for one sec pro and doesn't allow me to close the window which means I cannot quit out of the app. Would really appreciate a permanent fix for this! I see it's been quite a persistent bug in previous updates....Version: 1.1.1

Works well on ios but needs improvement on DesktopWorks well on ios, bit tedious to set up with shortcuts but works. The desktop app currently is useless as opening it just gives a blank window with the word 'test' in the center. The safari extension is useful but barebones, I would like the more extended options on mobile, such as providing suggestions for other activities to be available both in the safari extension and if it is not already available (don't know as currently broken) the desktop app as well..Version: 1.1.2

Good concept bad executionSetting it up is complicated and if you’re using it because of executive dysfunction and procrastination then it has failed at the first hurdle because it’s so much effort to set up. Then when you do get it set up you discover that it only works on one app unless you pay for it so it’s basically useless as a free app because you can just go and mindlessly scroll on any other app on your phone rather than the one that has one sec attached. Disappointing. Deleted..Version: 3.3.6

Good app but premium too muchAs a fellow developer, I love this app, but the premium is too much. I’d love to support by buying the lifetime but $50 is insane pricing for an app..Version: 3.5.1

AnnoyingI like the idea it’s just annoying that you have to pay 10 dollars a month just for it to not activate every time you open the app it’s connected to..Version: 3.5.1

Too expensiveAs a student an app like this would be really useful, but the price just isn’t worth it..Version: 3.3.9

BuggedI followed all the instructions but no matter if I wasn’t even opening an app, this app would keep opening. It took me 5 minutes to delete it as everytime I tried app opened up. Genuinely thought it hacked my device..Version: 3.2.2

Charging a subscription for this? This app is honestly a great idea to help people get off social media, but it is insulting that something with this simplicity is charging a subscription service to use on multiple apps. This app is essentially a glorified shortcut on iOS. After realizing this, I have decided to make my own shortcut to accomplish the same thing. If this app was a couple of dollars to buy off the App Store, that would be one thing and I’d be happy to support some developer trying to address a real problem, but to charge people a small amount for eternity to “help” them, that’s just upsetting. I expect more from people and need others to start having higher standards to destroy all of these nonsense subscription services..Version: 3.3.7

Doesn’t work!So I downloaded this, followed the instructions and it worked. Brilliant. Then cut to an hour later and I realised I was staring at Instagram. What happen to the app? It had simply stopped working. Checked the app, said it was still down loaded and applied to Instagram but when I opened Instagram it no longer worked. Went onto Shortcuts and checked - all still set up correctly, but still not kicking in. Waste of time, so glad I decided to road test before purchasing. Deleted..Version: 3.2.1

Better on the phone. Not a lot of customizable options....Version: 1.2.2

Great app but needs a few changes to be useful for me.I’m a developer and engineer at Instagram. Personally, I’ve really struggled with focusing at work, because I often need to use the app for testing. I quickly develop a habit of opening IG all the time. There’s a few changes this app needs, and you’ll join the elite ranks of being the second app I’ll pay for. I need this app and want it to work. First, in the “one sec” action where you can select what app you return to, it should allow you to select from the same list that the first selector allows. Sometimes the app I need to return to isn’t there, and it routes me to a different app. I specifically have this problem as I have multiple builds of Instagram on my phone at a time. Second, and this might be an iOS automations issue, but it needs to extend the functionality to visiting certain websites in addition to on app open. Do those two things, and if the rest of the experience continues to flow well as is I’ll do your yearly subscription..Version: 3.2.2

Does not work on viberUnable to activate one sec on viber app. Works fine with other apps like FB. Would appreciate your assistance :).Version: 3.1.1

Wish it was betterI wanted to pay & unlock more apps but the free version is not remembering my quick-switching settings, even after setting them multiple times. I may have to disable & delete it altogether, rather than upgrade because it’s beyond frustrating..Version: 3.5.1

A lot advertised is locked behind a paywallSo many of the advertised features are locked behind a stupid subscription service and the intentional app switching feature that makes the app even remotely usable is locked behind that paywall as well. Just use opal honestly.Version: 3.7.2

Neat concept, but gimped without the $20/yr subscriptionI saw this in a Tweet, installed the app, and set it up with two of my worst time-sinks: Discord and Twitter. Unfortunately the trial version only supports setting this up for one app, a dealbreaker. Trying to explore the settings kept giving surprise popups urging me to commit to a purchase, which frustrated me and depleted my reservoir of good will, so I uninstalled it. This is a neat application, but the setup process is pretty annoying. For all the work, you could probably just make your own shortcuts to do the same thing. $4/mo for an app like this is just greedy. I’d have to think hard before paying 4 bucks *once* to use this app to its fullest extent, let alone 12 times a year..Version: 3.0.4

Good idea in theory, but not in practiceAs someone who uses social media a lot, & who constantly ignores screen time's blocks, I decided to give this app a try. Twice. I find it genuinely annoying. As soon as I get out of an app with a One Sec trigger set up after the accidental exit time frame has passed (which can't be customised by the user, & there's only 1 minute, 5 minute, & 10 minute options), access to the app temporarily is blocked by the One Sec pause. If I close the One Sec pause before going into the app that's caused the trigger, something that usually happens accidentally thanks to my shaky hands, the pause happens all over again. Overall, I think the app is well designed, but it's more of an annoyance rather than a help to me..Version: 3.4.1
