Ableton Note for Positive User Reviews

Midi = game changerFinally!!!!! This is the update I’ve been waiting for. Tbh the novelty of using the iPad screen got old pretty fast because I couldn’t play real chords the way I heard them without losing my inspiration, now I can plug my Korg Microkey Air 37 into my IPad and play real chord progressions and melodies in ways I just couldn’t using the IPad screen. It would be nice if I didn’t have to set up midi input every time I open the app but I can live with it. I like the new editing features too. It would be very cool in a future update to be able to export stems but it’s not a big deal for me because I export projects to Ableton Suite 11 and develop it further there, but I’m sure users who don’t have Ableton Live would appreciate it. Anyway midi controller support is a major game changer for me. I wouldn’t mind more presets even if it’s via iap’s or even more instruments as well, but for now much thanks for this update!! Edit: No pitch bend or modulation? Oh well, I guess we take what we can get 🤷🏽‍♂️.Version: 1.0.10

Yo Ableton, nice!Great tones and usability. 😎.Version: 1.0.1

Goodbye Creative BlocksSlept on this a lil at first but has honestly become my go to for sketching ideas. Have used Ableton for years and didn’t have to watch any tutorials to use the app, the workflow is quick and easy to understand but really quite powerful. I quite like how limited it is in that you are forced to play the ideas in rather than have extensive editing capability, it’s a nice level of committing to an idea without feeling too restrictive. Keen for more samples to be added in future but the ones on there are all you need if you tweak a few things. One quick note, the note lengthening/reducing tool works incredibly slowly. If this was at the same speed at the nudge tool that’d be fantastic Cheers!.Version: 1.0.10

Exactly what i wanted!I use ableton live for my music production and i always wish I could have a way to put down ideas on the go or just get something to spark my inspiration when I'm not in the studio. This app does exactly that! I really like the ableton cloud syncing so that if i do create a little idea i can work on it later. Super cool concept and i think it works really well. Obviously it is very limited to just creating ideas and not exactly a full fleshed out track, but that is perfectly fine! Good stuff ableton!.Version: 1.0

Wow Ableton in a iPhone let the sun begin! So happy to finally see Ableton move into the iOS space. Hope the APP grows over time to iPad and gets a few of the Ableton Live tools ie Sampler..Version: 1.0

Awesome little appIt's like having an opz or something on your phone, but it's Live?!? Kind of. It feels really purposeful and deliberate as an app. It feels like a very functional and useful sketch pad for ideas that you can then translate/expand on in Live. But it's also a fun little beat maker toy. A lovely way to while away some time while also feeling suitably productive. Nice work!.Version: 1.0.10

So…First of thank you ! Been waiting for an official app from Ableton. It’s definitely a great app for what it offers BUT…it can be a lot better I feel like for the almost 10$ that it cost it is definitely lacking in features. I feel like adding support for AU3 on the app will open up a lot more doors I enjoy stock sounds but I’d love to be able to integrate my other apps for sounds, Second maybe a bit more midi control ?.Version: 1.0.3

Superbly designed, fast and funThis app is outstanding. The most standout aspect is the UI, which is super slick. Extremely fast and responsive and beautifully designed, with a lot of thoughtful support for useful gestures that just feel right. Ableton sweated over the details on this. Then there is sync, which is I think what is most exciting about the app from a process perspective. I am a bit of a minimalist with my setup, I want stuff that fits into how I do things seamlessly without having to learn a lot of new/different things, so something that "just works" with Live is great. Syncing to Ableton Cloud, then opening a Live set that sounds literally exactly like Note - with the same instruments and samples - feels near miraculous. And then there are just the overall features of music-making in the app itself, which are excellent. I love the looper-based way you create new material. The synths sound amazing and appear to be running onboard synthesis, you can even open up FM synthesis templates and experiment. Everything just sounds and feels amazing. Very excited about this new chapter for Ableton. It’s nice to see this kind of innovation..Version: 1.0.1

A breakthrough for Ableton. This app has helped me get used to doing more with less and is a nearly perfect creation. It has reinvigorated my love for producing music after taking a year off and having enormous trouble getting my muscle memory back. Ableton Live is incredible and I have only scratched the surface of what it can do after 10 years of producing as a hobby. The philosophy of doing more with less is nurtured so sublimely in this app, it is single-handedly helping me become a better producer AND it translates to Ableton Live with the content parity. Not to mention the cloud integration. This app is a game changer for music creation, and even more so if you’re familiar with ableton already. I can’t believe how nice this app feels to use..Version: 1.0.10

Please allow a way to import midi notesI love this app. And with the new updates it just keeps getting better. One thing it lacks is the ability to import midi files. Though you can now attach a midi keyboard. Midi files are a wonderful tool to add chord progressions to your ideas. Hopefully you can add this feature in the next update! Thanks.Version: 1.0.13

Bridged the gapAs a mobile producer, this really helped me bridge the gap between playing on my phone or iPad and then sitting down and polishing everything off. Love it BUT... As a finger drumer... A drummer... you have to let us set up our drum set. At least arrange them. It's a huge henderance. Even in Ableton the first thing I do is rearrange my pads. If this score was 1-100, you'd have 99 stars. So far it's my singular gripe. Everything else is amazing. LOVE how the tempo is set with my first groove. Genius! If you let me arrange my pads, this would be more powerful than koala! A HIGH bar..Version: 1.0.10

Very coolOne thing that would make this better is the ability to download individual drum kits from packs that I’ve purchased from ableton. Also double tap to reset dial to default.Version: 1.0

Pitch Bend and Suggestions for future upgrades…Dear Ableton, I am one of many who have asked for Ableton to be ported to iOS, and Ableton Note is definitely off to a good start. I noticed that the instruments don’t seem to respond to pitch bend from what I can tell when using a Akai MPK Mini controller. I did check pitch bend on the Arturia iOS Mini (Moog), and the pitch (x-axis joystick) works fine there, as does mapping the mod wheel (y-axis joystick). Is there a way to implement pitch bend in Ableton Note? Suggestions: * An option to edit notes by grid. * Add a soft keyboard as an option to the Push-style interface. * Add a small border edge to beginning and end of clip. Midi notes can move right up to the edge, and past the edge, but it is hard to tell where 1.1.1 is. Overall, very good app, love the default sounds, instruments, and sampler. Please, please, please keep updating this app! Thank you!.Version: 1.0.14

It’s great for taking notes…A great start, not sure about the difficulty to move notes in the piano / drum roll and it’d be nice to add function to change loop length. Otherwise it’s good. Solid set of sounds and fast to send out a rough draft.Version: 1.0.2

Amazing app, some suggestions!First off, fantastic job to the team. So far I have had no crashes, and playback is crisp and seamless. I LOVEEE the way the sampler works, absolute perfect for creative flow. I honestly wish i had the simple "zoom to crop" thing in desktop ableton. Instruments sound great, and the effects and basically the same as desktop. I realize this is a sketchbook app so i am keeping this in mind, but here are some thing thats would make it a game changer for me. Suggestions: - multiple effects for instruments, (at least 3, especially on the drums too!) one spot is usually immediately taken up by an EQ for most - left / right panning in the mixer - midi note editor needs to be expanded a bit, really the largest area lacking. just an option to click in notes after you make a clip would be hugeeee - master effects would be a nice addition but i could understand not doing it to save on cpu and it is a sketch app. - please add one synth, anything. just one operator option would change my life. THANK U TO THE TEAM YOU ARE AMAZING.Version: 1.0.2

Almost perfectMissing some features that are in native instruments iMaschine. Grid drum programming. Swing. Grid drum programming would serve as a great work around for the bluetooth delay . Other than that this has great potential and really fun to use..Version: 1.0.1

Please allow access to splice.Suggestions for upgrades: - Please allow access to splice on your phone. - Please sequencer..Version: 1.0.16

FinallyProbably like a lot of people, I've been waiting for something like this. And so far I love it. Even just as a drum machine, it's better than any app I've tried, with the exception of Patterning 2, which has its own strengths and weaknesses. One limitation, which I hope gets addressed in a future release: time signature is limited to 4/4. Time signature per track would be ideal, but even a global time signature would be huge. Looking forward to seeing what happens with this..Version: 1.0

AwesomeThis is a surprisingly capable mobile version of Ableton Live. The workflow is really intuitive and well designed for a phone size touch screen. Great way to tap out some ideas and pick them up in Live to turn them into full tracks..Version: 1.0.1

Where’s the sequencerSort it out.Version: 1.0.10

So cool!Love this new way to sketch ideas and just play on the go. I’ve used Koala and Auxy for a while, and this seems to combine many of the best elements from those apps. I like the way you can just start playing. Cloud integration is also really great into Live. To make it 5 stars for me, I’d love to see a 3rd input option alongside the keys / pads tabs, to allow exploring chords in some creative way. The interface for Note is neat, so I’m sure you guys could come up with something that lets you try/adapt chord progressions..Version: 1.0

Workflow is intuitive and fast, but missing some very necessary featuresUpdate: I was so excited to open the app recently and literally see everything I asked for added to the new update. Thank you Ableton team! Great job continuing to find fun and fresh ways to innovate in this space. Original Review: I think the workflow of this app is awesome. It reminds me so much of why I fell in love with Ableton the DAW in the first place. Some suggestions that I hope to see sooner than later. 1) Adjusting note lengths. 2) more audio effect options. 3) and most importantly for me is it allowing you to play via midi keyboard (works for GarageBand). I hope Ableton continues to develop this further, best of luck!.Version: 1.0.10

I love this portable daw! This is easily the most accessible way to really practice making music, as well as being a literal musical sketch pad for all your ideas. PLEASE I beg of you make an optional switch to turn on or off automation quickly. This would improve workflow so much because it’s always a feature in the way when I tweaking but it’s amazing when I want to experiment with different elements of the track. I just think it would be better out of the way sometimes. Thanks for the amazing product! I can’t recommend this enough..Version: 1.0.13

Fun appOver all I think the note app is great, however I think it is important to remember that it’s purpose is not to make full songs but to make musical sketches. Its definitely not the ableton your used too. It’s hard to tell what things will sound like on your real monitors vs your phone speakers. I’m not sure if an I phone can use midi information but it would be super cool to be able to plug in a small midi controller. More than two fx spaces per instrument would be cool too. Over all I think it could be a super useful app when more features are added but for now it’s kind of just a dumbed down session view. It’s still a lot of fun I can’t really imagine taking something I made on it and competing it though..Version: 1.0.1

Goes a lot deeper than you thinkI have a ton of audio apps and I also beta test a ton of apps-so I know a good app from a bad or just OK app. I will tell you when I first opened it up I was not impressed. I thought it looked a little similar to that horrible Reason Compact app until I used it and realized that this app is fabulous. I didn’t know it even had all the features it has until I watched some demo videos and was pretty impressed. This app goes deeper than you think-it will pleasantly surprise you. I have a feeling the devs will keep up with updates and making this app even better. To the devs-Thank you for making a great iOS app at a wonderful price!’.Version: 1.0.14

Awesome****with a couple of asterisks, being that some things have yet to be added here to make this as optimized as can be for a portable option for making music in Ableton. It’s an annoying thing to have to run sequences in order to record notes and more frustrating to try and quantize them to the sequence without a grid. But this can also lead to a lot of interesting results you might not expect and I think that adds to the fun. Just wish I had an optional grid and the ability to actually tap in notes instead of trying desperately to tap it in on the pads while the sequence is playing. I do love that downloaded samples can now be loaded in but I would really be over the moon if .adg files became accessible to quickly load in kits I’ve created on my computer or ones from some of the sample packs I’ve used. With how frequent updates for Note have become, I’m looking forward to seeing it be expanded upon and developed into a worthy companion to Live..Version: 1.0.10

Simple, yet malleable!I have lots of respect for this company and am happy they came out with a portable format for quick musical note-taking! They’ve done a fantastic job at making this enjoyable and easy to use yet giving us a lot of control! Look forwards to using this more!.Version: 1.0

Great Idea I hope they expand itVery cool app from Ableton. The more I dig into it the more I like it, it’s not a replacement for a DAW, but kind of like a little sketchbook that you can carry around and make ideas with. The main feature that it’s lacking badly for me is the ability to record an audio track that isn’t inside Sampler. As a songwriter it’s really helpful for me to be able to record melody or lyrical ideas with the music. Even a very basic audio track function would make this app my absolute go to for idea creation. As it stands it’s fun, but I will keep using my voice memo app for 90% of my songwriting..Version: 1.0

Best way to sketch out music ideas hands down.⭐️Message to the user- Best app, from “this is your mild hobby” to “you plan on evolving your creations later” this has it, I made a synth wave bop, lofi beat, and a Drum and Bass style song in no time just messing around. 10/10. Would love more added but as is I’m stoked and LOVING it. ⭐️ Message to the developers - You guys created something amazing here. I can be in the relaxed mind set messing around in song writing and then come back to it with a technical ear later. That alone to me is priceless. ✨ •Some notes if I may, the ability to play chords within the selected key with one note push would be nice, along with the ability to change inversions (maybe even record in the inversion changes as you are playing and/or after the chords are put down too) ✨ •I wish the link play was a little different. It’s so cool how it works but I wish when my friends connected they could add patterns that I could see and edit. Almost like a shared project file that we are both listening/adding too. This would be next level. Thank you so much, this is amazing..Version: 1.0.5

Everything you need for music notesI’m loving every feature of this. Having tried most of the available music apps for mobile this takes the cake by a long shot for me. So much thought went into the UI to make recording, automation, and element building easier than any other app available. Very very impressed!.Version: 1.0.3

Absolutely love this app although there’s one niggleCan you please allow notes to be played slightly ahead of beat 1. It’s really frustrating having to go back and add the note after the fact. This app is great for getting ideas down but this really gets in the way of the creative flow..Version: 1.0.10

Make music on the move!Great little app for slapping down some grooves and ideas whilst you get those unsuspecting inspirational waves. Easy enough to export your audio to your full setup and portable enough to not draw any attention whilst you program drums on your laptop and headphones in that cafe or on that train… Mobile and earbuds is the new movement!.Version: 1.0

Awesome, looking forward to see how it developsAs someone who is just getting back into production in live, for the small price this app was a no brainier to try out. Having used a few other groove box type apps I can safely say that this app is leagues above in terms of features, especially for such a minimal price. The ability to continue my projects on the desktop or push is brilliant and I’m looking forward to see how this app develops. I can see why this app has made it to number two in the music app charts. As somebody who is about to delve into the world of push standalone, I have been daydreaming of other ways to integrate a touchscreen with the device and thought how awesome it would be to have an app which can act as an extra controller and interface for clearer visual feedback and also making arranging and automation drawing easier. This combination would blow all other standalone DAW/groovebox options out of the water! And from what I imagine this would be really easy to implement and and could be used on any touch device meaning probably just about every push standalone user would buy it and would even encourage the adoption of push standalone by those who may have been on the fence about it. Great stuff ableton ! Big up ya chests !.Version: 1.0.14

Has potential, missing some featuresFirst of all I will say I am a hardcore Ableton user who has been using the desktop app for a few years. This is a great slimmed down version of session view with choice Ableton instruments and effects included. With what you get for the price I think it’s a good deal. However there are some features that are missing that make creation a lot more difficult than it should be. First of all, I’d like to be able to adjust the length of notes in clips. Also it’s weird that you can’t create a note manually, you have to play everything in which gets really annoying. Finally I think this should have audio track support. It’s weird they left this out, as Ableton originally started as a way to manipulate audio. I’m hoping this will come in another update, as I’d love to be able to play or sing something and have it in my song. I know I can use sampler, but I’d also like just straight up audio tracks to make things more convenient..Version: 1.0

I LOVE this app!Updated review 4/21: I’ll start off by saying that it’s so quick and easy to get my ideas out with Ableton Note that no other iOS can beat imo. I love the way I can collaborate with friends easily and move to my Ableton Live in a breeze. The included sounds sound great and high quality. The UI is what you would expect from Ableton and it makes navigating a snap. What I would like to see: -More than 8 scenes or recording session view jams to a simplified arrangement view. -Time stretching samples, even just a simplified version of what we get in Live. -Master track effects -Mobile ports of Operator,Analog, and Wavetable..Version: 1.0.10

Whats not to like? This isn't Ableton on the iPad. This is, however, an excellent sketch pad for sparking ideas. Quick & easy to use for beginners. But has plenty of depth & complexity for the veterans. I really like making beats on it. The bundled kits are decent, acoustic drum sounds are limited but lots of electronic stuff. Which is what most people want I suppose. High tweakability means creating unique, off the grid sounds possible. So it’s not just a “stick 4 loops together & call it a tune” app, like most of the “music” apps on here. Transfer projects to the mothership is easy via Ableton Cloud. But this is a 1 way street & should be done judiciously..Version: 1.0.5

So easyThe simplest way to produce music that I have ever found. Unique, original, ingenious.Version: 1.0.13

Best £4.99 you can spend on a music creating appFor 4.99 this is worth it you can really broaden and create something unique with the number of software instruments. The modulation and automation is very easy and accessible. You can get stuck into creating things within 20 minutes of using. For the price it is and what you can do id say its worth it. Literally cheaper than a pint for a lot of fun.Version: 1.0.10

Love it so far!The simplicity of the interface makes it really fun and quick to get used to. I love that it mirrors session mode. I’ve been having a lot of fun jamming on my ipad with it. I like how it starts you off with a randomized set of drums, bass, synth etc- nicely curated presets. It can be overwhelming to start a song in desktop Ableton, given the endless possibility- so it’s nice to have the limitations of this app. I think I’ll be using it a lot to start new songs. The system for inputting initial recordings is really brilliant. I love that it automatically sets a tempo- or you can select a clip length. It’s also great that you can set the key and scale. It would be nice if I could edit the note length in the clip editor. It also would be great to have the Ableton Link feature. Overall- very excited about this app!.Version: 1.0.3

LOVING THIS ..I’ve been writing music with computers since 1983. What’s always been missing for me is a truly compatible work stream that takes me from an idea in my head to a finished master. I have various ways of integrating my ideas from recording my ramblings in AudioShare to Sampling my life in Koala. The better ideas bounce into Ableton and become songs. I like the App. The sound choices are great. I own PUSH2 so I like the interface. I use the PUSH a lot for layouts and tunings. It’s taught me about relationships and music and even led me to create new shapes and tunings on my guitar. I think this is going to annoy my logical mind .. A LOT .. unless Ableton are about to bring out a 25 PAD self powered rechargeable Push 3 with Bluetooth that’s compatible with my iPhone and my computer!.Version: 1.0

I like it a lot and it’s a bargain priceI’m just getting into it, fully functional for one modest price unlike some other well known daws who have released mobile versions. I might be wrong but it seems that only certain instruments have a pan. It would be nice to see that on the mixer page for all channels in future. Yet to explore cloud integration but that would solve the panning i expect. Great!.Version: 1.0.8

Ableton Note VS GarageBandAbleton Note is more complicated, GarageBand is simpler. With complexity comes advantages..Version: 1.0.14

Sequencer Setting UpdateHi! Love this little DAW its such a masterpiece from you all and it is so versatile and well put together. The buttons are where my thumbs like and the fluidity of it all makes it very admirable to use on the phone. My one problem is that I use bluetooth headphones on the go, and of course there will be delay because of the bluetooth. Was hoping maybe there could be a step sequencer setting to turn on depending on how the notes are quantitized? The pads given only show a set of notes and im sure it would be easy to have a scroll like function on the left side to scroll through all of the notes through the octaves. And a set of drums would be very easy with the little amount of sounds each kit gives you. And on the right side could select the measures throughout the time selected on the sequencer. Plopping and killing notes with a press of a button would be a million times better than having to only play it live dozens of times to try and get it right. I do love to play how its supposed to when I’m at home and can hear it in real time, but that delay when I’m at work or something really kills the motivation. Having some sort of step sequencing option would be absolutely amazing and I really hope you consider this elaborately-mad idea and or respond to this. Thank you!!.Version: 1.0.5

Audio File Importing / IOSBeen having a good time with the app, although I do have a question; is there anyway to properly import audio files from within my iOS files to > Ableton note? (If it’s even possible because I’ve been struggling to find out) I have an M4A audio file (my song created in Medly Labs) and when imported to Ableton Note I am prompted with an alert saying "Would you like to import X audio file?" but when I press yes nothing happens :\ I hope I’m just missing something.Version: 1.0.10

Good app, May need a few tweaks.Perfect app for sketching down ideas on the go, however can the developer add a functionality for the user to be able to change mic input from headphone to phone or vice versa? Thank you.Version: 1.0.5

I Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🎧😩💕Easy to use, intuitive and quite nice visual aspect, it would seem that it could be better than FLMobile but I consider that there are 3 things that hold back its true potential to be better than FLMobile (which I have and use) and I wish that these recommendations could be heard!. 1. Manual draw notes and visual midi editor: It's really frustrating to have to record and record to get a sound right, it would be easier to just take that sound and drag it to a specific note on the midi piano (all already quantized to our shape). In other words, like in “Live” if we could have a visual midi piano in which we can capture notes just by pressing said note, add loops and that their duration depends on the duration of the note placed on the midi piano, that would be great. 2. Moving the pad rack or midi piano: If we could have the option to move on the midi piano or the pad rack itself to select the 8th we want, that would save us a lot of time! It would also help a lot if we could activate the option to see the labels or name of the notes on the piano or rack (C,D,E, Kick, Snare, Clap, etc...) 3. Add more than one effect or plugin: maybe for performance reasons this is not possible but if it is not, it would be great to have the opportunity to add more than one effect to individual pads and sound kits, like “ I want to add max 5 or 8 effects or effects plugin (reverb, sat, EQ) at the same time in a single sound and also to the sound kit..Version: 1.0.8

Good startThis yearns for a full Ableton Live App as companion on iPad Pro.Version: 1.0

Absolutely fantastic app that quickly gets your ideas recordedThis is really a superb app. I have many apps that try to do what Note does but I find Note by far the most intuitive and straightforward. I didn’t watch any of the videos at first or read anything about it but I was recording sets within moments. No hidden menus or any such thing, everything is right there where you need it. And you don’t have to know Live to use it. If anything, I think Note is quite a bit more intuitive than the Session view in Live on which it is based. I do hope for two things though: First, that they increase the maximum number of bars per clip from 8 to 16. 8 bars is really very restrictive. And second, I hope they’ll increase the number of sets one can save in the Ableton Cloud from 5 to at least 10. Having to constantly remove sets from the cloud to be able to add new ones is irritating..Version: 1.0.7

I love this appThis is the only app I’ve reviewed. This is such a great tool for when you’re in a slump, I don’t feel bad about making something really stupid on this. It’s so simple to use, and once you find the sounds you like and the way you like using it, you’re able to crank out ideas. And then after you’ve made like 60-70 stupid things/songs, all you gotta do is filter out which you like and then flesh them out on your computer, so fun!.Version: 1.0.14

Great addition to LiveFun for kids and grown ups alike because easy to use but powerful. It meets the intended objective which is to help sketch out basic ideas while on the go. Impressive quality for a first release. You can tell that a lot of work from skilled pros has gone into it..Version: 1.0.2

Workflow Game ChangeVery thankful for this app. Appreciative of the dev and product teams for this app. Once AUv3 is added, I'll update to 5 stars and cry like a lil joyful babay..Version: 1.0.10

Great potentialRad little app but it’s missing a couple things to make it a 10/10. Would really benefit from a piano roll, arp and chord mode. Velocity control would be a big plus as well. That being said it’s great and how seamless you can bring the project into ableton is perfect. I use session view to preform so it’s a perfect companion to live for me. Just needs a couple things to make it solid..Version: 1.0.3

Less is morePerfect for quick sketches, need to export als over to live, please..Version: 1.0.13

Easy and PowerfulAbleton Live has been a powerhouse tool in the music industry for years, and now many of its best qualities have been squeezed down into an accessible and easy-to-use mobile app. It comes with a surprising amount of content to create with and in-depth tools to let you go about as far as you’d likely want to before porting your set over to a computer. Especially for someone who is new to or curious about music production, Note a great tool for learning, creation and experimentation..Version: 1.0.1

Great appGreat pocket DAW. I would love to see a step sequencer to enter notes in but I’m sure that will be coming via an update at some point..Version: 1.0

Love ItLove this app. Great simple app that doesn’t use too much computing power/battery. One thing I’d love … it would be AWESOME if we could have operator and wavetable from scratch. Currently the only way to use these is by using presets within Note and the knobs are pre-routed. If we could open a fresh instance of wavetable like we could on Live. That would be INSANE - not sure if that’s too ambitious to have on a phone or not … but that would make it the most powerful and best mobile daw in the world , no competition..Version: 1.0.13

Finally a good DAW on mobile10-year ableton Live veteran here. The geniuses at Ableton finally gave us an intuitive app that works well. I messed with it for the past hour, can’t wait to come up with ideas on my flights now. Super easy to use, great sounds as well. The pads and scale functions are super cool. One thing I wish it had was a way to record your voice without using a sampler. I’m so tired of beatboxing ideas into my Voice Memos, so I was hoping this app would let me directly record my voice on a audio track. But it’s a loop-based app so I understand if impossible. Devs, I think a lot of people are looking to be able to record their voice ideas like an elevated memo app. Otherwise this is well worth the money!.Version: 1.0

Best music app I have usedI cannot say enough how good this app is. It’s simplicity is its greatest strength. With that said, there are some things that could take it to the next level. I would love to be able to record into a block with vocals instead of needing to make a sample then trigger it. The other thing is some folders would be good as I make a ton of sketches and want to find the keepers more easily. Lastly some more instrument options over time could be nice. Overall though fantastic app!.Version: 1.0.5

Audio tracks neededAmazing bit of software - really intuitive and works amazingly with Ableton desktop. Only complaint (and it's a major flaw!) Is lack of support for audio tracks. If they added this it'd be a solid 5 stars.... Cmon guys 😎.Version: 1.0.7

Nearly The perfect toyIf you can just allow copying and pasting this would be the perfect toy..Version: 1.0.14

Nice surpriseWow. This is incredible..Version: 1.0

Time signaturesThis really is a fantastic product, packed with features. Are there time signatures other than 4/4 available with the metronome in Note?.Version: 1.0.2

Ableton sketch pad on mobileSo easy to use and I can’t wait to see where this app goes. Love it!.Version: 1.0

THANK YOU.Feels like I’ve been waiting for this app for a decade. Every single mobile music app I’ve ever used has some sticking points that keep me from truly integrating it into my workflow. Not this. First day with it and I started a track, moved it to Ableton Live and finished it without any fuss. That’s never happened to me. Everything about this is so clear and intuitive. It feels like second nature. I hope it stays that way with future updates. It could use a few things, but please not at the expense of the perfect immediacy this app currently offers! A few first impressions- It would be nice if you could double-tap to reset knob parameters. They can be a bit fiddly. The ability to duplicate entire tracks and not just clips would also be useful. Not sure if there’s a way to change the volume of individual samples on the drum rack (maybe I missed it?) but if not, that would be great as well. Overall so excited about this app!! Thanks for all your hard work on this..Version: 1.0

Please add a notepad feature! Different time signature metronomePretty please? It’s literally called note. Shouldn’t it have a note pad feature? Ableton has always had logical UI so I’m sure you could find a way to add it. Also the metronome only supports 4/4. It would be wonderful to integrate more time signatures. I live for this application. I initially wanted to give 4 stars but It hurts me to do it. This app is excellent for putting an idea down..Version: 1.0.10

Great for ideasLove the workflow of this. Note is very much it’s own thing. Don’t expect “Live” or “Push” on your mobile device. Or a mobile DAW for that matter. This is a sketch pad, more along the lines of Reason Compact - an extension of your primary DAW meant to lower barriers to creativity and productivity..Version: 1.0.1

Pretty cool -laying drum tracks is a nightmareI’m really impressed with this app -sounds cool ,easy to use and some great sounds and instruments The drum track sequencing is totally confusing and hard to get a cool beat going -this really lets its down as you have to really edit to get anything sounding in time or half decent Would prefer more traditional style drum sequencing.Version: 1.0.2

So cool!I love this app. But I do have a few suggestions. … You should be able to copy and paste: 1) The entire Row, in the Set. So it can be pasted into a different set. 2) Each Note. 3) Each Clip. Also, the Metronome, and the Graph, should be Numbered. And you should be able to Snap the Notes, and the Tracks, into the Number placements. Thank You for the App, it’s really cool!.Version: 1.0.14

Note is an outstanding startWow. What a stunning user interface and an intelligent selection of some of Ableton’s greatest sounds. However, the step sequencer is desperately needed. Once that arrives Ableton Note will be an absolute weapon. File management’s clunky too. I’d happily pay a monthly subscription for faster development and unlimited file sync..Version: 1.0.13

Love this app, but it could be better!Love playing with this app and trying out new rhythms that I normally would not try on desktop or with Push. The fact that I'm using an iPhone to create means there's a decent built in microphone that I'm already used to using. It works great with the sampler device, but one thing I love to use on desktop is the "audio to midi" function in Ableton. Note feels like such an obvious place to infuse that function on a mobile device. It would be great to be able to hum in new instruments and use the note editor (even in the limited fashion that already exists in the app) to edit the notes if needed. Ableton is all about knocking down barriers for creating. This would be great..Version: 1.0.10

Fantastic startThere is so much that is great about this app. Workflow is simple and makes sense. It’s fun, has most of the features and things you need to start a track on the go. Couple of points for improvement… there doesn’t seem to be a way to change the length of a note, maybe I’m missing it, but that is super frustrating. If I want to make it longer I have to re-record it which seems like a bit much. Also would be great if the notes on the piano roll were labeled, it’s hard to know what you played since lines that don’t have notes are skipped. And lastly, the sounds, many of them are feeling a bit dated, that might just be how it goes with a default pack, but would be cool to have some more genre specific sounds, even if there is a small IAP for the expansions. Or better yet, maybe unlock stuff you own from your ableton account… just an idea. Over all it’s a great app, probably one of the best for writing stuff on the go..Version: 1.0.6

Great but….I have been using Note since it first released and I really love it. Just having a stripped down music making app really focuses the old noggin. However every time I use Note I get frustrated by 2 things. 1. No Gridlines on the note editing section of the instrument view. 2. Can’t copy and paste a selection of notes to the same track or another track. I get that this is a super light sketchpad for starting tunes that you will hopefully one day finish off in full Ableton Live, so I don’t expect the whole Live feature set. But it’s frustrating to see new features added that seem like extra fluff, while genuinely useful improvements are being ignored..Version: 1.0.15

Intuitive and funThere’s other things around like this for sure but there’s something about the simplicity yet wide scope to invent that I love about this app. Of course it all makes the most sense for Ableton users but still a great creative tool. I can’t stop writing with it.Version: 1.0.7

I Legit love this appAs soon as I heard about an Ableton app (being an Ableton boi myself) I couldn’t wait to get it! If you are considering buying this app as a musical sketch pad, this is the way to go! This is not a mobile DAW, however you can make some 1:30ish songs on here that sound pretty dang good. Some suggestions for the devs, MPE support would be so sick. Keep it up, this app works so well honestly I could go on and on. This is also a great option for special needs, as well as young beatmakers, while also being super in-depth and professional. Seriously this app should have at least 4.7!.Version: 1.0.10

Changing the game. This app has changed the game. I haven’t touched anything else on my I pad, my vast arsenal of hardware synths, samplers are getting neglected due to the ease and speed of using this app. Once you get past the tiny learning curve you will start to discover features you thought were absent but are in fact hidden in the UI. Each instruments clip can be automated independently! This blew my mind. Saves so much time/work when you import your project into Ableton live. Importing your whole project into Ableton could not be any easier. Just save your project from Note to Ableton cloud and everything is there. Grab the complete project file from your Ableton browser from Ableton Cloud onto your current project and it’s all there fully automated ready for production. If you get creative you can work outside of Ableton Live as well as an instrument, or for loops. Connect to an interface and record your projects/clips into logic syncing time with Ableton link. This is the fastest workflow I’ve ever experienced and my vote for best music making app for 2022 and all time. A must have! My number one recommendation is please please pretty please with cash on top, add midi controller support. Oh please now MIDI out to complete its perfection. Would love to live sequence external gear/vst’s with this super fast workflow..Version: 1.0.12

You did it betterThe clean interface I expect from ableton. Works phenomenally..Version: 1.0

Awesome appThis app is awesome! Big thanks to Ableton for developing this..Version: 1.0

Great notebookGreat for ideas quick tunes etc Love the sample feature BUT no way to delete recorded or imported samples?? Must be over looked Please update. Should be an easy fix. Don’t want to clog up my phone and iPad. Thanks.Version: 1.0.1

Massive potentialAbleton need to think about a fuller functioning version. Apple Silicone now makes this possible and making music on the go will only become more popular. Roland Zenology is a great example of this and Ableton should take note..Version: 1.0.7

Amazingly simple.Within the first few minutes I could tell the developers put a lot of effort into this app. They’ve really hit the nail in the head with the design, ease of use, and sounds that are available. Worth every cent..Version: 1.0

Most intuitive music creation app by far (but missing some features)Ableton has knocked it out of the park with this app. The UI is easy to understand and everything makes sense but I believe the app is still in its infancy. The sounds included are great but the sampler leaves something to be desired. There is no easy way to change the stop and start points of a sample. I was hoping for an easy drag from the far right side of the sample in the sample window to change the end point and drag from the far left side to change the start point. However I cannot figure out for the life of me to change this. Keep in mind I didn't take the tour I like to discover things for myself. It's still one of the great joys of learning new software. In my opinion tho what makes a great app is if the end user thinks something should happen when you do something than that thing (swipe to change sample start and endpoints) should most definitely happen..Version: 1.0.1

Amazing. Keep it up.This is great, a lot of what I hoped for in a companion app. Please add the ability to change what midi note triggers which pads (midi learn). I have a great device with outputs that I can’t use with this app because the midi notes don’t match up..Version: 1.0.14

Nano sized Ableton Push for your pocket!!Firstly, I love Ableton. Im a huge fan, and I’ve been using Ableton Live for many years. In fact, it’s all I’ve ever used to create my music. With Note im able to quickly formulate a beat and come up with new arrangements on the go. So far I have no experienced a single problem and everything is as fluid and precise as you’d expect from Ableton. The price tag is absolutely perfect, and I’d even have paid more especially being developed by the gods themselves. One feature I’d like to see is somehow the ability to synchronize with LIVE 11. Taking things one step further it would be beyond insane to be able to utilize the plugins we have connected with the desktop DAW… but that’s wishful thinking I’m sure. <imagining Serum implemented into Note> Beyond the daydreams, this is an amazing app and I highly encourage any and all Ableton Live creators to give it a shot!.Version: 1.0.8

Big fanLove the app and it’s similarities to the push 2! However it needs more to rival the best portable groove boxes out there, especially teenage engineerings po33 ko and po1 field. Some suggestions: 1. Sample editor. The ability to slice transients of one sample to keys would be insane. Then with that editor being able to edit each individual slice with reverse functions, pitch envelope functions etc 2. Effects kits. With my po33 ko there is an effects mode which is so much fun to use. A whole kit essentially designed for warping, modulation, stuttering, and filtering effects to change the sound of the project. If I could add an fx instrument to my sets that had different editable pads each individually labelled, etc stutter, cutoff, with different parameters on each effect to change, that would be insane 3. Turn metronome on by clicking the button and holding it to edit it 4. Double tapping the knobs to set back to 0 point or default position 5. The MIDI layout. Love how cool it looks seeing the MIDI notes flying in every time I press a button however it’s confusing and I have no idea when the end of a bar is coming. Would be nice to add the number of bars you want with a specific time signature, then to just see the MIDI come in like it does in Ableton. Or to record then change the bar length afterwards. Not being Ableton change the bar length in slider form feels like a big miss. No quantisation lines either makes me feel a bit lost too. Closer to the live session experience on Live. Not being able to hear what it sounds like before I add it to the track makes it hard to commit. Real time play back while recording would be great. I’ve been very picky, but it’s an amazing app that could be improved to the point where it will play a factor in choosing the Ableton daw over other manufactures for new consumers. Apologies if any suggestions have already been implemented and I haven't found them..Version: 1.0.5

Happy to see itI’m honestly thrilled to have an ableton companion in my pocket. having the ableton link feature in this app is going to make random sessions away from home a WHOLE lot more interesting. in a perfect world i’d love to have unlimited fx on my channels. being limited to only 2 is pretty rough. the MIDI roll is limited right now as well. I wish I had a more cohesive way to edit my notes. i’d love to place notes down without having to record everything i read another review talking about audio channels missing. if i could record a guitar or my voice through my iphone mic to get an idea down, that’d be gamechanging. you could totally write your song before hitting the studio to put the whole song together. worlds of possibilities here there’s a lot of room for improvement but i’m giving this 5 stars because i’m excited that we’re finally getting an ableton tool on iOS.Version: 1.0

Very Good StartHave made a few sketches so far. It will be very interesting to see where they take this..Version: 1.0.2

Awesome startAny ableton user will be right at home, Especially push users! Some koala sampler features like audio overdub would be amazing and would fit in perfectly with this workflow. and to be able to loop in odd time signatures (5/4 melodies will snap to an 8 bar loop for example) and I won’t need another app! if we could get access to devices directly instead of presets, and if the sampler UI could control fades and loops rather than simply clip gain, this would very easily become all I’d need for iOS music..Version: 1.0.1

One feature I would loveThis app is excellent, however I feel like the sampler is a bit limited. I would love the ability to either play a sample like a keyboard or as a drum kit where it chops up the sample at the transients. This would make this app five stars easily I get so much use out of it.Version: 1.0.5

Great - A really solid start.Update: Still really good. However, I know it’s a sketch pad, but they REALLY need to sort out the sequencer (visual grid and better quantise snapping). Then it’ll be perfect. 👍 ——————- It’s great, but it needs a lot of work on the editor. Such as: - A visual grid to place notes (depending on quantise). - The ability to add notes (like a step sequencer). - the ability to draw the length of notes. - The ability to change the velocity of notes. Other people have mentioned slicing (warping would be better) of audio loops. I’d second that too. All in all, a really solid start. Definitely a must have if you own Live. How much I’ll use it (and how much it inspires me to use Ableton) depends on how much they develop the editor. I really hope this is only the beginning..Version: 1.0.10

The ableton team is always soaring above! What an awesome app. Easy to dive into and get creative! Thank you I am such a fan of your flawless into weaving the workflows to allow us to have fun intuitively!! 8$ is a gift.Version: 1.0.14

Yes looking forward to see it developLove it, I’ve been waiting for this for so many years. to be able to capture you vibe where-ever you are and then seamlessly just carry on later in live I use a small midi controller with note so I’m missing things like midi start stop, capture, clip and scene switching midi functions (midi learn) and control automation (device knob control)it would be so much faster to get an idea down, a sketch Also some kind of level meter on the clips page for each track would be nice I’d be so happy with all that.Version: 1.0.14

LatencyThis app would be ideal for sketching tracks out on the go if I could use my AirPods with less noticeable latency. If there’s anyway to optimize for very low/negligible latency I hope it gets implemented soon!.Version: 1.0.5

AAAAAWWWSSSOOMMEENNEESSThe iPhones I can hook up then to my MacBook then my iPad..it’s endless outstanding to the creators of the app..And all those years ago I said I would never go to apple…how wrong was I….Version: 1.0.10

Not a ReplacementThis is an app for ideas, not full tracks. iOS isn’t a great studio tool, at least not now. This app realizes and uses your phone for what it excels at: taking notes to build out later when you’re at your real setup..Version: 1.0.2

Glad this happenedReally please to see an Ableton app at last, thanks ! Be great to export as an ableton project along with audio and for the sounds to open in an instrument for further manipulation this would make the writing process seemless Being able to name parts would be a welcome addition When trying to get back from the mixer to the clip view I only seem to be able to get there by selecting an instrument then hitting the back button. So icons would be welcome for switching between views Arranger view also with a song mode How do you trigger a lane, to launch all clips in a row ?.Version: 1.0.1

This is Live Evolution!!Great app, no matter what ppl saying… This is an on the go beat Maker!! Idea is to obviously take it in to Live to develop stuff further. Can’t fault it if you use it for that! As it improves I’m sure some of the quirks will be ironed out :).Version: 1.0.8

Great but unusable in day to day lifeI think this app was meant to be a companion for musical ideas in the wild. Unfortunately really bad Bluetooth lag is kind of a dealbreaker, especially without a step sequencer. If you use AirPods, you won’t be able to actually tap out a beat, the lag is worse than any other music app I’ve used. I want to use this all the time, right now even as I am out at a coffee shop , but I am not going to bring a pair of wired headphones with me just for that. I hope they adjust, otherwise I feel a little miffed about the execution here..Version: 1.0.2

Good for drums and sampling but synths could be betterI really love putting an idea down for a rhythm using the drum kits or sampling and works great when switching to live using Ableton cloud. Although synths can be hit or miss depending if your lucky and a sound fits well. If there was a basic version of wavetable added in the future this app would be perfect and maybe being able to import a selection of samples from live would allow a user to use a lot of the same sounds they’re used to using. Overall though I think this is a step in the right direction and could really influence how people use live in a significant way aslong as the app is consistently improved with new features along with Ableton cloud..Version: 1.0

Very fun and inspiring! This app is great to have on the fly when inspiration hits. I haven’t played much with it, but for the most part it’s very intuitive. If your an Ableton person who likes creating on the fly it’s a must have. The one critique I have so far, which may be there I just can’t find it, is there is no way to edit a midi notes durations. You can nudge it, quantize, velocity, and tune, but I don’t see a duration function. Creates dead spots in your playing if you aren’t perfect that you have to replay to fix..Version: 1.0.5

Very intuitive UI and fun to useSo easy to quick record and edit, good sounds. Works with a MIDI controller but would be nice to be able to map CC..Version: 1.0.13

Great place to start with electronic musicWould be great if you can add support for microtone intervals for some of the synths.Version: 1.0.3

Well worth the price of admission! This is a great little sketch app by Ableton that allows you to easily bang out ideas and decide whether you want to keep them or not. There are plenty of sound and clip editing capabilities for you to work with. You’re not going to make a full-blown track with this app - that’s not the point, and there isn’t an Arrangement View to lay things out anyway, but it’s a fun, fully capable app for getting things going, and getting ideas out of your head. Uploading from the app to the cloud works really well. Once you’ve signed up for Ableton’s Cloud service (a free, painless signup), just select the set to be uploaded to the cloud, and then open the set in Ableton’s Browser (under Places in the new 11.2.5 update). I guess the biggest downside is that you can’t use your own plugins in the app, but that’s not that big a deal really. The sounds that are included are fine for getting ideas out, and you can record your own samples directly into the app. Overall, Ableton Note is well worth the $5.99 price tag. Thanks Ableton! It’s about time you brought the Live experience to the phones of the world. Better late than never!.Version: 1.0

Makes so much funThank you very much for this program. I love it and the quantisation is working now finally in a way you can use it..Version: 1.0.10
