One improvement that could be made is the ability to have an audio option so you can listen to the movie via your iphone using headphones. I like my movies loud but the neighbours don't appreciate it nor does my girlfriend when she's trying to sleep. ✓ What I've been hoping forBefore I write my review, to the people who suffer app crashes, not just this app. Do what I was advised by the Apple store, try a software reinstall. The iPhone and iOS are not infallible, they do fail and crashes aren't always the app's fault get over it and try that before you start shouting for blood and refunds! Now, the review. I have hoped that there would be some way of controlling my favourite media player without getting out of my chair, and here it is. Great app, doesn't crash for me, but then again, I recently reinstalled my software..... The only gripes I have is that it was initially a bit confusing to figure out how to get back to the media controls after browsing files, and the biggy, why do I have to pay again to have the iPad version? ✓ Outstanding app!Not only does this do everything the free version does, but it also supports VLC's Media Library and playlist, allowing you to find any video or sound file in your VLC library. And, as an added bonus, it also lets you browse your computer for any media that might not be in your library or playlist. Finally I have access to all my media without having to deal with a cumbersome wireless keyboard and trying to squint at the characters on the projection screen. Best of all, it controls all my computers, so I can hop from one machine to another to another. Best $2 I've spent. ✓ Get it !This is a great app. We all know vlc plays virtually every type of file (as opposed to both QuickTime and windows) so having a remote makes real sense. It has a great interface is easy to use , quick to set up, doesn't break and just works well! Another great feature is displaying a history of recently played files. Also looking for files is easy I use my mac mini as a media centre under my sofa so thanks to this app no longer really need my mouse of keyboard when playing media. It works seamlessly..Version: 0

✓ Works Great!I use this app to run VLC on my Windows XP laptop connected to my TV. I used to use a general remote app that let me control the laptop's mouse and keyboard, but this is so much nicer! 99¢ is a small price to pay for the convenience of browsing, queuing, and playing movies on my TV, especially considering that I once paid $40 for an IR remote that was much less useful. I love being able to see the names of the videos I'm opening on an easy-to-read screen instead of squinting at the TV from across the room. I did have to manually add my computer's IP address instead of connecting automatically. I am not holding that against this app because I believe the problem comes from a combination of my laptop's settings for VLC and Windows XP's networking settings. I suspect that the app plays nicer with the Mac and Linux versions of VLC, since those versions seem better supported by the VLC developers in general. Oh, and I still use the excellent iTap app to control my laptop for non-VLC use..Version: 0

Now I'm having problems trying to re-install 8.0. I am SO sick of Apps that get broken on an 'upgrade'..... UPDATE -- In fairness, Rob, the writer of the app, did respond immediately to my support query (unlike the guys behind the broken RadiON app, who seem to have lost any ability to write emails) and said he could see it was broken and would look into it. ✓ A Wonderful App to control VLC Media PlayerI was very happy to see "VLC Remote" appear on the App Store. I have a PC serving videos to a large screen TV. I do not enjoy retrieving recorded videos from an external hard-drive with the regular remote. I don't like working drop-down menus with a remote. I do fight with rewind and pause on remotes. Then along came VLC Remote. I like how I can switch to full-screen with a touch. I love being able to go to any hard drive associated with my PC with a few 'touches'. This is the App I have been waiting for. I appreciated the quick e-mail response from 'support' re a query I had about VLC settings. I don’t think this app is ready for prime time. I used the free app for one day and figured I’d upgrade to be able to browse and add files. When I add files from the app, the playlist function fails and reverts back to the first song in the media player’s library (as listed). Essentially you cannot choose to start somewhere in the song listing and listen sequentially: the player automatically reverts to first song. Also, the volume function works only when not editing a playlist/song list. Once you load new songs and try to play those, volume control is lost. People say this app is better than Apple’s Remote (which has its quirks) but this makes VLC Remote not worth the $5 upgrade. Stay on the free version because it actually works as advertised. ✓ Great remote, works wellI use VLC as a front end for my movie/music server, so I need something that works reliably and well. So far, this is by far the best iOS remote for VLC. The devs have put a lot of effort into making setup as easy as possible. It's very simple, all you need to do is tell your VLC program to allow remote control. Once I got it setup, I've not had any disconnections or odd behaviour.. It just works. The recent UI update was a good step forward, it is more polished and the layout is better. Got it working straight away from a Linux vlc server (though it doesn't work 100% when I click a button to find /). File browsing and full screen are very good. Would like it to handle host:port in hostname just to handle when I have the vlc http interface on a different port (for example using it via NAT outside of my home network). But these small gripes are specific to me and not useful for almost anyone else. Interface is nice and themes are great too. Also tried it on my mac and windows machines without trouble. Other peoples difficulties are probably with their in-experience with vlc, networking, firewalls and following the authors instructions. The WHOLE process worked first go without my restarting either iPhone or Computers. Having all my movies stored on a NAS and another computer, i bought the FULL version of this software. Again, this was double click and it just worked. The way it should. :) I also tested this while on 3G through the iPhones VPN. I connected home via VPN, waited about 10 seconds, Clicked onto VLC Remote and up came all my computers with VLC running, Navigated to the "External Drives" and played the movie. ✓ THE BEST APP EVER!!Most expensive app I have ever purchased, and worth every single penny. took a bit to install it, but none the fault of the app. i emailed customer support but had it figured out before he was able to pinpoint my issue, which was a tweak in the wifi settings on my iphone. (just because it says its connected, doesnt mean it is-new to me). my ipad connected immediately. you DO NOT have to install their antivirus software, and you DO NOT have to turn off your firewall. you only have to set your firewall to allow VLC. and if you are having to install everytime you want to use it, all you have to do is add your computer to your phone manually, WHILE IT IS CONNECTED. i dont like that VLC has to actually be running on the pc for it to work but that may even be a setting im missing somewhere. this thing connects to all drives on my pc, accessing my movies and music, whatever, from the palm of my hand, on a tv in another room! i can even pull in movies from my external. now if i could just get this puppy to turn on my pc and vlc, id be all set!!
