Collins British Wildlife for Negative User Reviews

Could have been greatI've had this app for a long time and I can't even remember the last time it was updated. Very limited information available and it could have been a great idea and a lot of routes they could have gone down regarding developing the app. Unfortunately it looks like they have pocketed the cash and given up so I wouldn't waist your money. Google does a much better job.Version: 1.1

No longer works, ShameThis was a great app but unfortunately the developers have given up on it.Version: 1.1

Doesn’t work on iOS 11See the title.Version: 1.1

Wildlife guideNot working since os11 update..Version: 1.1

DisappointedIf I could get my money back - I would..Version: 0

Collins British wildlife guideVery disappointing and I feel stung paying out such a lot for a pretty useless app. I don't know the names of most that I would want to look up, why aren't there colour and habitat etc groupings ? Also the picture quality is too heavy and hard to see any detail in, so dark and indistinct it's verging on awful. The whole thing is poor quality and way overcharged, I bought it today and regret it now I've seen the whole thing. Collins you should be ashamed of this, but you are obviously raking in loads of cash based on your previously good reputation . How do I get my money back please, it's a swizz..Version: 1.1

Lacks polishHas the potential to be a must have app but has been lazily implemented. Page navigation should be possible ny swiping rather than just buttons. Would be nice to see thumbnails in the list view to aid identification (see the app birds). Also theres only a single image per entry why not have male, female and juveniles or trees and leaves. Please update to make this worth the relatively high purchase price..Version: 0

Poor appNot updated to ios11. Rubbish..Version: 1.1

Collins apTerrible. Your guides are the best wildlife books in the world. This app is a disgrace. Still not updated it, not been working for months. We expect better. Sb.Version: 1.1

Collins british wildlifeNot worth the money limited on the number of species.Version: 1.1

Useless appHave the book version of this app which has plants categorise by flower colour with 10 pictures to page so dead simple to find plants. On the app you can only find plant by its name, absolutely useless out in the countryside when trying to identify plants and flowers. Better off with separate plant, fish, animal, fungi, tree and bird identification apps.Version: 1.1

This is K but is not gd enough for college workI am studying a countryside man course and downloaded this to help but there are a lot of species missing that should be in it such as more types of falcon and it needs more details and information in it possable a identerfer key and guide for trees showing what grows on them such as the bark and branches and also what the trees look like in winter and examples of leafs and a identfyer for animals but so far is k but needs a lot more species of trees and animals to be added to make this up to a college course standard.Version: 0

Disappointing!!Downloaded this thinking it would give you lots of interesting information about GB species (body length, pug-marks, species sounds etc) but it has a tiny bit of writing not saying anything useful at all. Waste of money!!!.Version: 1.1

Disappointing. Not worth the £5.99 price asked. It's not that useful for identifying species you're unfamiliar with as there's no key, and the species list (to click on the species you want to look at) is just a written list - no images. So, for example, to identify something I found in a rockpool I guessed at "invertebrate", then clicked the first species listed under "seashore", and scrolled through every species until I'd found it. Really quite disappointed, given that the Collins wildlife books are pretty good..Version: 0

Brilliant AppBrill App and very informative but why doesn't it tell you which Fungi are poisonous and which are ok?? I think this should be added in an update as I expected this information to be included for £5.99..Version: 0

Little usePoorly designed app. Not very handy to use if you don't already know what something is. Poor pictures and text. Hasn't been updated in a long time. Avoid..Version: 1.1

Ok but not greatA balance of previous reviews. It works pretty well but pics could be better hi res ones. It really does need to be consistent giving poisonous or not for every fungus. It also really needs a database backend so we can search by characteristics. I.e choose catagory then if birds offer search by wing span, colour, size, typical location, etc. It is interesting as but has much scope for improvement..Version: 0

DisappointingI like this app but have been waiting for a very long time for it to be updated so it can be used on the iPhone. Have contacted the developers who assured me (several months ago) that it was going to be updated very soon. I've had to delete it off my phone as it says it's incompatible with iOS and keeps causing the phone to crash. It was very expensive but that was fine when it worked. Please, if you're not going to update, take it off the App Store..Version: 1.1

DON’T BUY FROM MYDIGITALEARTH.COM!Having paid for this app I didn’t expect to find it no longer functioning after the update. Please can you update the app so the people who have paid good money for it can use it again...or give us a refund perhaps? I would NOT buy any other apps from this company! It’s money wasted as they don’t keep them updated. I can no longer use an app I paid for!.Version: 1.1

Quite good but a little disappointedThis could have been an excellent app but I am disappointed with the quality and clarity of many of the photographs. They look as if they were taken quite a few years ago on film and it seems they haven't been transferred well from the book to this app. What is needed is a refresh with hi res digital photos. Image quality is most important particularly for an app of this price. Additionally the amount of information for each subject seems to vary in depth. However a very useful app as a field guide..Version: 0

Disappointing - like old style websiteNot a bad app, but not worth the price. It's attempted to be like the book (without the space) and missed the trick of app technologies..Version: 1.1

Really not good enough. As a medium priced app, I hoped for much more. There is not nearly enough detail for this to be any sort of field guide (For instance, how can you identify a tree using only a picture of its blossom if the tree in question is not in blossom?) And it is not nearly 'pretty' enough to be simple 'eye-candy'. (the photos are poorly realised; not sharp but fuzzy and colours are somehow 'muted' etc.) Its scope is large with 1500 species (and I'd be happy to pay much more for an app like this that is more comprehensive), but 1500 pictures that are not pretty and are uniformative are at this price point poor value..Version: 0

Collins British Wildlife PhotoguideThis is what it says on the label - a photoguide. If you want to identify a wild flower, butterfly or bird then this can't be (easily) done. The application would be great if there was a simple search against key features such as colour, size etc. As it is you would need to flick through scores of photographs ( which are Ok but somewhat limited with only one shot per entry) and spot the match..Version: 0

DisappointedThis app cost me a lot of money and now I can’t use it because it is not compatible with my iPad since I updated it. Come on Collins, your reputation is at stake here!!.Version: 1.1

Not worthy of the original...As an owner of the 'Collins Complete British Wildlife Photoguide', I was excited at the prospect of downloading the 'interactive version'...sadly I feel cheated by this interpretation. The photographs are significantly inferior in quality to the original and the 'interactive' capability is laughable. The 'search' facility is seriously flawed and well below par for an app of this price. The developers should take a look at 'iBird Explorer' or 'Birds of Britain & Ireland Pro' and take steps to improve this potentially excellent application...if only I had listened to the reviews!.Version: 0

No goodQuestion: if I see a plant that I am unfamiliar with, how am I supposed to find out what it is using this app? Answer: You don’t. The only way you could use this app is if you already knew the names of all the plants and wildlife. So...... I really don’t see how this app is supposed to help anyone who isn’t an expert. Really want my £9.99 back already☹️.Version: 2.0

DisappointingThough reasonably comprehensive this is a poorly executed app. The insect photographs are often blurry and indistinct, the accompanying summary information is only very basic. The user interface is poorly thought through and cheap looking. I can only imagine the high cost of this app has something to do with licensing the content from Collins because it certainly hasn't been spend on development..Version: 0
