Magic Stave Midi Recorder for Positive User Reviews

My Dream AppEver since I was a youngster learning music, I dreamed of an app that would allow me to hum or sing a melody and immediately show me the notes. That dream has come true with Magic Stave. If you have a modicum of ability to sing on key, you can use this app to figure out any melody you imagine. I have fairly decent relative pitch from many years of playing music, but sometimes I just cannot figure out an interval by ear. Magic Stave to the rescue! If I can sing it on key, Magic Stave can tell me exactly what note I’m singing and I can figure out the interval from there. It can display the note position on various instruments, including guitar, AND show you the actual note name on the stave (A C note will actually appear as the letter “C”). This is fantastic for dummy, self-taught rock guitar players like me who only have very basic music reading ability. As an added bonus, Magic Stave can now immediately PLAY that melody with one of several instruments along with outputting the MIDI file. You don’t have to wait to import the MIDI file to a DAW anymore (although importing the MIDI file is also a FANTASTIC feature). All around an awesome app! I’d buy this app 10 more times if I could. It’s THAT good to me..Version: 2.0.1

Brilliant!Just learning to read music and this is amazing! Love the ability to show the notes as the note names rather than as notes. I’m learning fast. It’s amazingly fast and accurate too, how does it do that? I upgraded from the free version as I wanted to see the note positions on a guitar. Thoroughly recommended!.Version: 2.1.0

Great App works with my guitar and irig 2Would be good if midi files access worked I.e Dropbobut fails to connect to the site ,also would like to be able to save midi to files on the iPad , please update this great app ,thanks.Version: 2.2.7

I likes...If you had the feature of saving the notes shown or making them available for print... That would be excellent..Version: 0

Great App- Please work on making function with iOS9Great app. I use it to find notes in songs. However, it doesn't function on any of my iOS9 devices. Please fix that!!!!.Version: 2.1.5

Good but maybe a timing snap?…Because the human voice varies so much more than traditional instruments, maybe it would be possible to have a time constraint limited to 1/16 or 1/32. The user could choose the tempo and a click track count in would help them to stay on track from the beginning. And every note would be constrained to the tempo and the quarter note 8th note or whatever they choose..Version: 1.2

Helps with sight-readingReally good app to help get started reading music. I use with midi input and there can be a lag if more than one note played- any way chords could be displayed using midi?.Version: 2.2.4

Such a useful appI love this app; it does the exact thing I wanted an app to do ie listen to my voice or instrument and display it on the stave. It does so much clever stuff over and above this basic function as well! I took it with me when I went to test out a concertina from ebay and it was great for checking that all buttons were in tune. I play violin to it to check my intonation. Also helps if I get a tune in my head and can't remember what it is. Really appreciate the addition of the violin fingerboard display, but for me I would like the fingerboard to show either fret lines or finger numbers or both as otherwise from a small display it isn't obvious exactly which fingering is being shown. Maybe as an option? Thanks for a great app..Version: 1.4

Cool utility for musiciansGreat for tuning my guitar or the whole band. Does what it says simply and quickly..Version: 0

Jo T.Fabulous app! I'm a singer and this really helps when singing unaccompanied songs to check your tuning! Money well spent for any musician!! 5 stars - well done!.Version: 0

Magic StaveNew display for Violin very innovative ! This app deserves 5 stars ! Looking forward to Mandolin Fretboard !.Version: 1.4

AwesomeCould use better accuracy sometimes but about 95% accurate sometimes there's a delay in note display if singing into the phone but it has helped me a lot with pitch and songwriting I highly recommend it..Version: 2.2.1

Magic!Great as a teaching aid for learning musical notation, practicing singing to help you keep in key and you can even use it as a tuner for your guitar. It's got lots of flexible settings and is very easy to use. It also shows what an amazing piece of kit the iPhone is - even if you don't use it for its intended purpose, it'll impress any friends with an interest in music..Version: 0

Great valueUse with slowed music reads note names and length in exported midi score app.Version: 2.2.7

Great Idea!Wish it would playback sheets on iphone.Version: 1.1.7

Perfect for SingersA great little app for learning to sight-read. You sing a note into the phone. Magic Stave shows you the note it heard in your choice of grand, treble, or bass cleff. Keep practicing until you get it right! It also shows you the note on the piano keyboard or guitar (your choice.) You can also set the key signature. My only suggestion is a small improvement in setting the key signature. You set the key signature by choosing the key name (e.g. D Major). It would be nice to tell you the number of Sharps of Flats (e.g. D Major: ##) for those of us who don't know our keys as well as we should. The author is VERY responsive. I haven't tried the recording function yet..Version: 0

Good AppI really like making my own music but, unfortunately, I don't actually know a whole lot about it. This app is really helpful for me when it comes to figuring out which notes I'm singing, and it even shows me where those notes are played on the piano, which saves me a lot of time and effort. The only thing upon which I believe could be improved is the clarity of how to use everything, because I'm fairly certain I'm not making the most of this app, but purely because I don't quite understand how to go about using it. Maybe it's just me and I'm somehow missing something that would be straightforward for another person, but I'm still confused nonetheless. Overall, it has been a good app for what I'm using it for..Version: 2.1.5

Violin, and precision of fingeringWould you provide an option for fingering 'tapes' for violin? It would show whether the note is correct, or between tones. Magic Stave seems to have some trouble detecting notes above high E (in the octave above middle C). I think I saw a notice about improving this, though the same clefs still seem to be shown..Version: 2.2.2

ImpressiveIt works very well it'd be cool if it had a feature that actually wrote the notes down as opposed to just showing them as you play but still pretty cool :).Version: 0

Very cool appA very cool app that keeps getting better. I use it mainly for vocals, but I could see it being an excellent tuner for guitar as well. I'm sure it'd be even better on a 3G phone, but it works on my older phone, too. Author is very responsive to feedback and suggestions. Keep up the good work!.Version: 0

Very neat and clever little appVery clever little app that I gave to my son to help him play the guitar by ear a little better.Version: 0

Does what it promises! Finally able to " write" a song by singing it. It records the notes in midi format which I was able to import into Garage Band then convert to a printable score. I'm a novice so putting notes from my head on paper has been a challenge- but not anymore. This apps also tells me what key I sing in. I had some questions about the app and the developer was very helpful. Happy with my purchase!.Version: 1.2

A reliable pitches & time signature reference companion! This app has become an essential tool for my vocal practice sessions. I often use this when transposing a song's key signaturw to quickly see if the highest & lowest note are within the safe zone of my vocal range. The key signature auto detection function has been useful in many occations too!.Version: 1.1.7

Nice appThis accurate note recognition through a simple interface. As a guitarist, it would be great if the note history could be stored and displayed in tab format within the app, as opposed to exporting the midi file and then manipulating with something like guitar pro..Version: 2.1.1

Very Cool music appThis is so cool - to know just what frequncy I'm singing or playing. Esp. in a capella singing. You isolate the one person who might be singing the wrong note (or even just a bit out of tune), and Presto, you've got instant (and deadly accurate) feedback, plus the ability to test the corrected pitch. I have had zero crashing problems. Getting back & forth from the note-and-frequency display was a bit mystifying for a while, until I figured out it was just based on screen orientation. Note that most of the reviews consist of enhancement requests - the sign of a good app that people are figuring out new ways to use. Recommended..Version: 0

Excellent for piano or singingOne of my favorite music apps to date, this quickly shows the pitch of the last notes played. Doesn't show chords or note durations, but still pretty unique and enduringly useful..Version: 1.1.7

A great way to indicate the notesThis is a great little tool for those who don't yet sight read music, or are looking to fine tune one's accuracy. I play the theremin, and this will be a great tool for my theremin students. I noticed someone mentioning inaccuracy of notes being displayed on repeated attempts at the same note being played. A number of factors can cause inaccurate note values to be displayed. Room accoustics, overtones generated by the body of an instrument (violins, cellos, guitars, ect), and room noise, such as computer cooling fans, insects that make noise (crickets), refrigerators, or airconditioners humming, or even an old flourescent light humming can interfere. It helps to have an accoustically quiet room. Perhaps a microphone adjustment might help filter out some of these issues in another version update. Tobad the ipods, and iphones don't have line inputs. All in all I like this product. Thanks..Version: 1.1.7
