RaceSplitter — Race Timer for Positive User Reviews

So simpleDownloaded and used for a high school Nordic ski race. Stood at the 4k mark and tracked skiers as they skied by. Had all the parents "marveling" at how I knew the kids and their place...I didn't but the app did. So easy...wish I would have thought of it!.Version: 1.3.4

Excellent for MTBExcellent for recording club events. We were able to set up a race template with riders in categories for weekly races. We can train a new timer in a minute or two and share the workload around. Ability to send results as a cvs very useful for posting results on our club website within minutes of the race being completed..Version: 1.3.5

PerfectionAfter some back n forth just to make sure it was going to do what I wanted (predict your time style run) I purchased this app. It worked perfect!! Customer service was awesome too. I saved about 200 bucks by using this app. Thanks RaceSplitter!.Version: 1.7.2

Great to use ... Check your Junk EmailFantastic product. Took me a while to realise that the password change emails were going to the junk folder. Love the program and our timers find it simple to use when timing Mountain Bike lap races with up to 100 riders going solo with male, female, mixed teams of 2 and 3..Version: 1.7.3

RaceSplitter is GREAT!I love this app. As a parent and sometime coach of Nordic skiers, we are always on the side of the trail trying to either write down or remember splits. It is great that I can input a race order before the race and then be able to get times/splits easily on the race trail. It is easy to use, the developers are responsive (I sent an email and less than 2 hours later, I got a reply), and although expensive for an iPhone app it is cheap compared to most race programs..Version: 0

Great Race Timing AppSo far, I have only used RaceSplitter to time one race - I found it very easy to use, intuitive and reliable. I was a little worried about missing my racers as they went by, but in practice it was much easier than I thought. I had a question about loading importing a race from email and this was answered very quickly after I contacted the developers directly. Apparently this will get even easier once the RaceBuilder support is added. It does exactly what I was hoping and it looks good too, so I'm giving it 5 stars..Version: 1.0

Nifty appExcellent for any low to medium racer density events! worked fine for test race and easily imported csv data! Thanks...can't wait to use for snowshoe races this winter!.Version: 1.3.2

5K race perfectI use the app for timing race like 5k an its awesome, i hope for the native in ipad and edit timing option in web page Thanks Matt for excellent Job 👍.Version: 1.3.4

PerfectI’ve used race splitter for multiple events, I can’t fault it, once you understand how it works , it can save thousands on a timing system..Version: 1.7.6

AmazingBYRON BAY OCEAN PADDLER runs a ski race every year and every part of the race, from safety to competitors is always perfect, the timing has always been our biggest problem!!!! TILL NOW, this app is reliable fast and user friendly, 10 stars, fives not enough. The back end website is just amazing as well, Well done team our race is now stress free..Version: 1.4.1

XC Ski coach (Anchorage, AK)I have searched for applications like this for taking splits during races and most are either difficult to use or expensive. This application worked very well on my first attempt. Pros: Prior to the race: - The program walks you through setting up your race. - The application can take a start list submitted in a comma delimited format so you do not need to type in the entire start list. - If you need to make changes or create your own start list, it is an easy process. - The program supports 3 types of races to fit your need (mass start, interval start, wave start). During the race: - Entering bib numbers as they pass you is pretty simple (It definately beats out the sheet of paper and math on the fly). The less time I have to deal with calculating splits the more advice I can give athletes while they race. Very nice! - While entering bib numbers you can easily scroll through the split list to see who stands where. After the race: - You can scroll through the results and splits just like before - You can send results to an email account as a .csv file Cons: Prior to the race: - There is only one format for entering a compiled start list (by someone else). It is very limited and if you are not very computer savvy, it could be very difficult to translate a start list into the format necessary for RaceSplitter. During the race: - Last minute changes made to the start lists by the race officials can make things difficult. For example, if a bib is added on to the end of the start list, you will not be able to give that athlete a time as they do not have an entry in the RaceSplitter start list. So if a bib comes by you that is not in your list, there is no way to take a split for that kid. - If you miss an athlete, there is no way to put in a placeholder (blank) spot so that you can calculate it later when you find out who it was you missed. After the race: - Nothing really that I can tell so far. Overall, I give this application a 5 star rating as it is the first version, it's easy to use, and it does more than expensive split applications do..Version: 0

Great AppJust used racesplitter at our recent nordic skiing state meet- it worked great! Only tricky part is building the race but the folks at NENSA have been great at posting the files to download..Version: 1.0.2

FantasticI installed it 5 min before Ungdommens Holmenkollrenn and was able to download and coach all the racers if i had wanted. Amazing.Version: 1.0.2

Easy to use, great information, highly recommended!I use this app for timing adaptive ski races, using the compensation feature. It is easy to use, provides great information and allows us to give adaptive racers real splits for the first time, without all the complicated math! I have also used this on multi-lap races with hundreds of competitors and been able to provide more detailed and reliable information than any split timer I have ever used. The design of the app makes it hard to make mistakes and easy to make changes if you do. Love it!.Version: 1.3.4

Very good ... butI've used this for an annual flat water kayak race for 3 years and the maturing of the product and my skill make it work almost flawlessly now. However I have one big gripe that the developers refuse to budge on: you need to swipe to start a race - this is not precise enough and prone to miss-swiping. It should be a clear button press like the Record a Time button. We always have larger backup stopwatch timing differences than we should have due to this silly feature..Version: 1.7.2

Nice timingUsed the RaceBuilder function on the developer website. It makes it very easy to build a race, esp. if you have already created a csv file from a spreadsheet. I also like the database of skiers, since we race against the same high schools all season. Can't wait for the iPad version. We will do all our race timing from this app once that appears, since we will be able to print results on the course..Version: 1.0.2

Awesome application!!The saying goes that you get what you pay for and with this app, you get more than what you pay for. Support is awesome-- quick, personal and great. Multiple messages answering all questions asked with helpful hints. Not a form letter as with some apps I have seen. These guys know their app and take the time to support their users. The integration with on line updates is key and a true solution for running events. I have priced out systems like this, from full systems to custom development and they are all in the thousands of dollars. I cannot say enough good things about this app & the company that stands behind it!!.Version: 1.4

Fantastic app! This is the best app for timing races and for getting splits. A must have for Nordic ski races. I've used it for both timing and for giving splits and it is awesome..Version: 1.3.4

Kayak Club RaceUsed the race splitter today for a club race, I wanted to paddle so after setting up the entries I handed the iPad to the club handicapper who with a few minutes instructions ran and recorded a faultless race. The program handles endless entries and categorys as far as I can tell and its syncing with the website to display the results for free and emailing the results as a spreadsheet are neat. A couple of tweaks to the software will make it even better and more flexible. The support is also good as I emailed them with a couple of questions and got a reply the same day..Version: 1.2.1

Excellent app for timing races! Our local running club supports local races using an older timing system consisting of a push-button racing timer with an integrated printer. Given our desire to upgrade our system, we looked at several chip-timing systems but have balked at their relatively high cost. Initially skeptical of the one-time, low-cost of RaceSplitter, I figured we had nothing to lose and took the plunge. After familiarizing myself with the tutorial videos, I volunteered to use this as a backup to a recent race. The race director forwarded a list of 33 runners which I easily uploaded to the RaceSplitter website, then up to my iPhone. On race day, we had 21 more entrants and I literally stood under the race tent entering participants as they registered. Then… the race director decided to change the numbers/types of categories which required me to edit every racers' record. A few last minute entrants had me entering their data just before the race started. Although I was busy, the software was flexible enough to handle all these issues without ANY problems. Once the race started, I anxiously waited at the finish line waiting for the first runner to cross. When he appeared, I simply entered bib number 48 and hit the Record button. I like the fact that each runner's name is displayed after the number is input. I think the runners were surprised to hear their names as I shouted encouragement just before the finish line! The app performed flawlessly, and I continued to enter bib numbers until receiving word that the last runner had finished. Within seconds, I posted the results to the website and forwarded the link to the race director. As an aside, I watched in amusement as my fellow club members (the "official" finish line workers) pulled tags, placed them on a wire loop in order, compared them to the official list of finishers, and categorized them by group. Even more amusing was that they kept asking ME to verify names and group winners as the race progressed! Based on what I've witnessed, here are the pros and cons between chip-based systems and RaceSplitter: Chip-based + More accurate if used with sensors at the start and finish which is more suitable for VERY large 1000+ races. + Fully automatic once the race starts. - Extremely high cost ($3,000+ vs. $35) + chips! - Extensive set-up/tear-down time Race Splitter + Single cost with no extra consumables + Extremely portable (only iPhone required) + Ability to post results in near-real time and immediately (within seconds) to website after race completion. - Not recommended for VERY large races, but NOT because the system can't handle it. For races with 1000+ participants, racers at the back of the pack don't cross the starting line until well after the leaders and therefore will have times quite different from their actual times. If this is NOT a concern, then RaceSplitter is still a viable system. Having said that, there are a two features that would make this already excellent product even better! - The ability to edit the race configuration on an iPhone: Currently, editing the race configuration can only be completed on a desktop/laptop/ipad but NOT on an iPhone. The window that appears on an iPhone is somewhat restricted and even if you are able to change one of the values, you can not save it as the button is outside the window. - Expand final result listings: Final result listings are limited to place #, bib #, name, group, finishing time, and time behind the winner. Most electronic timing results also include city, state, gender, age, place in age group (1 M 30-39 etc)*, and race pace. *Note that you can click on a runner to get their place in group, but it would be nice to have that available on one page. In summary, RaceSplitter is an excellent product with a fantastic product support team. Every question I submitted was answered quickly. The one-time price is a bargain compared to chip-timing systems and is quite suitable for small to medium races (I've seen a few results with over several hundred participants). The user interface is intuitive and easy-to-use although I recommend having at least one "spotter" who can assist in calling out or writing down numbers, especially when there are several large groups approaching at one time. The "rapid-fire" timing feature helps, but you still need to SEE the numbers!.Version: 1.5.3
