IBird UK Pro Guide to Birds for Negative User Reviews

Not as good as N American versionIt has all the nice things as the N Am version but the lack of multiple illustrations is a major drawback. How is it possible to show only male ducks, and only one plumage for the males? Same issue for many other species..Version: 5.1

Does NOT work with journalThis is a potentially excellent application which I have been using for several years, however, the app advertises integration with Journal which just does not work. Make sure you do not waste your money thinking that it does. This is blatant marketing lying..Version: 10.06

Where's the journal?Briefly used after extensive use of the Aus Birds app, feel a little ripped off that this moderately expensive app does not have the journal function included in the edition I purchased..Version: 10.02

BAM doesn’t workThis app is ok, but not great, at bird ID. The images are misleading at times, and the information is sparse. I’m giving the one star rating because the developers are selling the BAM feature from the uk app and they know it’s broken. Simply doesn’t work..Version: 10.06

MmkAtlantaThis is an OK app. It would be much, much better, however, if one could list the birds in taxonomic order. I don't find listing alphabetically by family very helpful. Most modern field guides are arranged taxonomically and most serious birders think that way. I do like the additional photos. I found them very useful during a recent trip to the UK. Some of the range maps are out of date. For example, we found Linnets in the Outer Hebrides and we learned from a local expert that they have been breeding there for a number if years. The range maps do not show Linnets there. There is an error for the Ring-necked Parakeet. The listing says they were introduced in 1069. I strongly suspect this is a typo!.Version: 6.1

IBird UKI have fully supported IBird from day one but have only just bought the UK version having just purchased an IPad. I am disappointed that there are many mistakes in the UK version (Wrong teal - most photos show green-winged; wrong race of yellow wagtail; Willet with whimbrel and I bet most of the latter do not have White rumps; wrong woodcock depicted - shows American woodcock plate) to name a few. Probably written by an American birder - needs a Brit to put this right!!!.Version: 4.0

Disappointed with this expensive AppThought it would have bird song recognition but sadly not.Version: 10.06

Very good app about North America BirdBut i have some mistakes about bird names. I send you a email about this .today. my name is Peter Lane.Version: 10.06

Handy app but a bit basicOverall a useful tool to have with me on my phone whilst birding. However a bit basic. More information and photos enabling distinction between male, female and juvenile, as well as summer/ winter/breeding plumage would be needed for me to give a higher rating for what is not exactly a cheap app. More illustrations and photos of birds in flight, both from above and underneath to see wing markings would be even more superb. These shortcomings are partly mitigated by the link to Flickr, which does provide you with lots of extra photos of the species you are looking for, just need to bear in mind that some of the identifications on Flickr may be incorrect. So, dear developers, overall not a bad tool, but plenty of opportunity for you to make it brilliant! Keep going!.Version: 10.06

Missing birdsI have emailed the developers twice to ask why Temminck's Stint is included but the more common Little Stint is not, and whether any other significant species are missing. They have not replied to either email. It is a shame they have not responded as the app is generally good and well thought out though I find the photographs less helpful than good quality paintings..Version: 6.1

Pretty hopelessNot even as good as free apps. Implicated to use and not accurate. When looking for birds throws out ones with different colours for example. Not very comprehensive either. Better off buying the ladybird book of British birds. Waste of money.Version: 10.06

ExcellentOne problem. The Birds Around Me (BAM) does not seem to be working properly. For instance, there are loads of Red Kites where I live but BAM eliminates them. I just don’t get it but otherwise the app is excellent..Version: 10.06

Awkward but no choiceI'll tell it straight- I loved "Twitcher" but it doesn't now work on ios8 and they have no intention of supporting it any more so an alternative had to be found. iBirds looked the best but is it just me or are some apps. designed by people with their brains wired quite differently - maybe Americans? The app has great content but is void of any style; the navigation is complex, unintuitive and bewildering. Twitcher gave you Long|Lat AND the nearest address across the whole Europe for instance - iBird manages just Long|Lat. Making any Birding List is frustratingly complex to the point that they intend to offer a separate app. just for this purpose in the near future. A separate app. - that should make it easier - not. In summary: over £10 for rich content with poor design. Not convinced it was worth it at all..Version: 6.1

DisappointedWhy after purchasing this app do I find all the adjoining websites and information are down with the excuse of « Being updated with new software » How long is available soon? Be wary before purchasing.Version: 10.06

Good, but flawedProbably the best app for reference and is genuinely really useful; however, the extensions just don’t work. I’ve been using the app for a few years now and, although the dev team informed me they were looking into bug fixes to get it all working (emailed me when I voiced me problems to them), nothing was ever fixed and there’s been radio silence since. For the parts of the app that actually work, it’s good, so if you go for it, just get the base version..Version: 10.06

IBirdUKFairly good basic id information but a really good range of bird song /calls for each species..Version: 10.06

Was better in the previous versionFirst downloaded this a few years ago and still prefer the old format, nicer to work with, looked more professional, however I still have it and use it so it can’t all be bad, it just looked far better!.Version: 10.06

Does not link with iBird journalVery frustrating that it does not link to your lists and you have to enter every name as a “custom”. There is little online help with issues. Good for bird ID..Version: 10.06

Disappointed !App is missing several birds regularly seen here. Great Egret, Glossy Ibis.. app needs to be updated to match reality..Version: 10.06

Doesn’t work and insufficient supportNon responsive to taps. Can’t take tutorials cause they don’t work. No response from support..Version: 10.06
