IBird UK Pro Guide to Birds for Positive User Reviews

Love this appI find this a very handy app when out and about . It’s easy to find what you’re looking for. Some people complain they want more info - but I feel that for me there is almost everything I need. Where I want more info I use reference books at home..Version: 10.06

GreatFantastic app but long due an update, the American versions have had one so why not the UK? Suddenly found that my favourites have been wiped though which is a bit inconvenient, my iPhone also restarted whilst this was the only app running but, given how good iBird is, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt on this occasion. A good app nevertheless and worth the money..Version: 6.1

Love it.Wouldn't be without it. Some images are a little "off colour" but I find the bird calls invaluable. It is huge so you'll need lots of space..Version: 10.04

Great appWe use iBird in the US all the time so it's great to have the same format to use while traveling in the UK. It would be nice if the thumbnail pictures showed male and female dimorphism (or alternate juvenile plumages) but the photos often solve that problem. The app is my only bird guide for this trip, I've been using it on my iPad mini quite a lot..Version: 6.1

This update is amazing, if you are interested in birds, don't hesitate to purchase it.I have referred to this app for bird ID and knowledge for a few years now, but always found the usability and design a little disappointing. What a difference this update has made. The icons are renewed with beautiful coherent illustrations and it seems there has been an improvement in the recordings, photos, range maps - everything really. As another reviewer mentioned the around me add on doesn't seem very accurate, eliminating many common garden birds, I hope the developers will improve this. The other add on is worth the extra money though as it betters the search functionality. Well done and thanks for such a wonderful update..Version: 10.02

My favourite birding appI always seems to grab this app first when out watching and listening to birds, the illustrations are exceptional, and for most birds there are additional photos and a vast array of information, but the thing that really stands out with this app is the bird sounds and each bird has different sounds from calls to songs and warnings, ok so the package is not quite perfect with a few americanisms but overall highly recommended, looking forward to updates in the future.Version: 4.0

Top birding appBeen a user for several years and I am well satisfied. My favourite feature is the bird song & call clips. Improvements to audio clips are always welcome. Accepting common name searches is very good unlike other apps !.Version: 10.06

Great appIf anyone is in Britain or Ireland get this app.Version: 5.1

Get It....This app.... is amazing! I am a huge fan of birds, and I dont live in the UK, and I I still learn about amazing birds in other places. If you are bird fan then this is the app for you..Version: 6.1

I love iBird UKI love iBird UK. I have iBird Pro that U have been using for some time.Version: 3.2

Bettering the experience of birding. As a relatively beginner this app has made my whole experience of birding a lot easier since getting it. At times I was almost giving up with the hobby but now things are a lot better and I'm really enjoying my bird watching..Version: 10.02

The BestMitch Waite doesn't disappoint... What he has done for the States.. he's now done for the UK..Version: 10.02

ExcellentTried other apps but couldn't find the bird I was looking for, bought this, found the bird within a few taps. Now I use it all the time - even to show the Kids what birds to look out for when we walk our dogs!.Version: 6.1

Excellent appThis app is at just the right level for me as a very interested amateur. I love the fact that you can play the bird sounds. Really helpful when you can’t see the bird but maybe have some idea of what might be..Version: 10.04

Fantastic App!For anyone who loves birds this App is a must. User friendly, more details than you can poke a stick at, and the illustrations are absolutely stunning. Love the favourites feature and the ability to export the files in iTunes. Bird sounds feature fantastic, my 4yo sits in the grass in the backyard trying to attract birds, great way to get the next generation interested in their environment. Overall, it's a simple to use, informative and beautifully illustrated App that is worth the price!!.Version: 3.2

Great AppHi there, for me this app is a lifesaver, being confined to a wheelchair and having dexterity problems this app enables me to go out with just my bins/telescope and this app, to help identify the birds I do not recognise..Version: 10.04

PleasedExcellent!.Version: 10.06

NoviceI’m a novice and use this app a lot. I find it easy to use and it has most of everything I need. Wouldn’t be without it..Version: 10.06

Needs retina display optimizngLove it! Loads of sounds, photos, facts and information. Still needs to be optimized for iphone4 retina display to get 5*.Version: 3.2

Amazing app, 10/10 (or 5* LoL)This app is brilliant, worth every penny! I was so nicely surprised at how much info it holds and has become invaluable to me and my o/h. It does loads of things and the layout is fab! :) so glad we both bought it & thoroughly recommend to all One little thing that niggles.... Text '6.1' on the icon is bad. No other icons have text, hence the name icon :S.Version: 6.1

SatisfaitUtile pour un voyage en Europe. Aide à l'identification des oiseaux qu'on ne retrouve pas en Amérique du Nord. Peut être utilisé dans les villes comme les campagnes..Version: 5.1

I want to go to the UK/Ireland NowWhat a guide book for traveling to the UK or Ireland. Locations to visit, what birds/fowl to see.. With that out of the way I would like to review iBird UK 3.2. For comparison, I will be using iBird Pro HD (iPad) as this app shares many of the same characteristics as the iPhone version. One noticeable feature that caught my eye in the iBird UK was the inclusion of Conservation Status in the basic search (Ecology in iBird Pro but buried in extras), where you can instantly see bird species approaching or in protective status. While in any specific bird/species, when selecting identify, you get the “Codes and Conservation” information right at the top of the page. One of the neato (high geek factor) features is the new wave form and spectrogram additions to the sounds feature. I have spent hours on this one alone, like I said geek factor =10. And while we are on sounds, my 3yr old found another fun one. Shake the phone while on any species and it will pick a random bird and start playing the call of that bird.. Again lots o fun for the little ones (and young at heart). Movie birds: are you fans of the little known Potter series.. Many of the birds mentioned in this little known kids series are found in the app. Yet another educational tool for the family. One note of mention. This app as well as all of the other iBird apps is a stand alone app not requiring a network connection. This is really noticeable when out in the middle of nowhere and being able to pull up the searches quickly without waiting for the app to connect. There are to many refinements to this app over the Pro app for us in the states to mention and hope to see in future updates to the Waite Groups fine stable of apps. Another 5 star from me for another job well done and to a development group that doesn’t stop with a single release and wait for the $$ to roll in..Version: 3.2

Its one of the better apps for birdingI tried a number of inexpensive apps and decided this was the most appropriate for me as a novice. I find the search facility really good and I think the sounds really help ID requirements. I have written up some notes on various birds but it would be better if I could pull up a summary of all my notes, as I could then easily check what I had seen/heard in the last month/year etc. Contrary to a number of reviewers I think this app is just fine. R.Version: 10.06

Very Easy to UseMy husband and I have been coming to the west of Ireland for the last 30 years, but I have not done much birding here. I recently arrived in Ireland and loaded this app. I have an app on my phone from National Geographic and find this app better. Multiple audio calls and photos for each bird as well as the "range" feature are most helpful. I have already identified many birds not common to the US..Version: 6.1

My first go to app for bird identificationI have used this and previous versions for many years. Simple and quick with plenty of detail. Sound section very good. Did not give 5 stars because although I can add note to individual birds with time and gps I can find no easy way to see a summary list so that I could export notes in one batch. You can email notes to yourself for each individual bird..Version: 10.04

BirdUKThis app is very easy to use and contains a wealth of information. The birdsongs sounds facility is particularly good and I have largely replaced my books with the app while outside with my binoculars. I’ve used BirdUK for several years now and can thoroughly recommend it..Version: 10.06

What a brilliant app! This is the best app I have ever seen! You can search for birds, take your own photos and more. It gives you amazing information on how to identify the birds. You can also look at pictures and listen to the birds on the slide shows. Simply brilliant!.Version: 5.1

Very HandyThis is a very useful app that I love using in general when looking at the birds. It helps you to identify the more unusual birds and is marvellous if you see a bird that is not quite what you expect..Version: 10.06

JohnnersThis is a truly excellent app. I am an amateur bird-watcher and not up to "twitter-standard" ! This app. features not only beautiful colour images but usually, several photographs of the bird in question. Some 283 species are included together with the appropriate birdsong, often including the various different calls of the bird in question. I particularly like the 'birdipedia' section which is web-based and contains a huge amount of information. For the amateur and professional bird-watcher I cannot recommend it more highly. Superb!.Version: 6.1

Brill, Brill, Brill! My husband purchased this app for me as a surprise when he bought my iPad as a birthday present. I have used iBird so many times as a reference tool and just generally if there is a particular bird song I want to listen to. It is absolutely fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone who has an interest of birds and wants to get better educated on all the different species. LOVE IT! xxx.Version: 6.0

Surprisingly good!A lot of information for your money. Sets out to be a Field Guide on the iPhone/iPod Touch and succeeds pretty well. I particularly like the range of bird sounds which it holds. At the current sale price you can't go wrong and with this alongside Birdwatcher's Diary for recording sightings you've got a pretty comprehensive system for field use..Version: 3.2

Wonderful app but lacks updatesLike its bigger brother iBird Pro (North American) counterpart, iBird UK is a wonderfully crafted and useful app. However, the birds aren't being updated with illustrations and information found in its NA counterpart. Though adding features is fantastic it's the actual birds themselves that make the app what it is. Please update Mitch!!.Version: 5.1

IBird UK is Brillant!I have been using iBird Explorer Pro for a couple of years, and everyone I show it to runs out to buy a version of iBird for themselves. I have not seen any paper field guide that is as easy to use or has as much information as iBird. Since I love the North American version, I was eager to see the birds from the British Isles. I am delighted to report that iBird UK is brilliant, and has a number of improvements over iBird Pro. The coolest new thing, by far, is the slide show with the song for each bird playing as its photo is displayed. (I hope this feature will be added to the older iBird apps in the next upgrades.) I am gradually learning to recognize many birds just from their songs. Almost all of this app is self contained – that is, you don’t need an Internet connection to use it. Therefore, it is perfect for using in the field. You can search for a bird by entering its characteristics, check out the bird’s range and habitat, compare the bird to photos, and listen to the bird’s songs right there in the field. And for people who like to keep records, the notes function lets you write a note, including the date, time, and location automatically entered from your iPhone data, and associate it with a specific bird you might have just seen. The extras that do require an Internet connection, Birdpedia, Flickr, the iBird manual, the photographers’ websites, etc. are all things that are not essential to identifying a bird. I give this app 5 stars without any hesitation or reservation!.Version: 3.2

A Wonderful App!Comprehensive and easy to use. Sound recordings of birds superb. Allows the user to enter own notes and photos. So much interesting detail I've found this app an educational experience as well as a great field guide. Like its subject matter, a thing of beauty!.Version: 6.1

The best bird appEver since iBird was released I (well lots of people) looked enviously and hope for UK edition and here it is and it is brilliant! It replaces even the best bird guide and am sure will just continue to get better! and at £2.99 it is the best bargain there's been on the app store....Version: 5.1

AwesomeI love this app. It has helped me identify several birds and increased my love of birding!.Version: 6.1

Some missingThere is good birds and all but some are missing like the ring billed gull the osprey needs markings on Ireland for migration.Version: 10.06

Love itIt is a great way to prepare for a trip. You can limit your region, which brings up just the birds you are most likely to see. Then you can study them one at a time, painting, photos, songs, range, information. An improvement would be to also restrict by season(s)..Version: 5.1

Pied FlycatcherLove it! Excellent loop system!.Version: 10.06

Very goodBest thing about this app is the samples of bird song enabling me to identify more easily the birds that live around me. It would be really good and get an extra star If there was more information about each individual bird-Especially about behaviour and nesting. But I suppose the creators of the App are always working on extending these things. Also I can't seem to import photos from my camera-If I want to take a photo I have to take it directly from my iPad via the app which is unlikely to happen, As birds do not appear when you expect them! But having said all that it is an excellent app ....thank you!.Version: 6.0

Go for it!I like this app. The illustrations are first class to help with identification. The sounds are also top rate! I would recommend this app to novices like myself and also to the more experienced; there is always something more to discover! Have fun with it!.Version: 5.1

BirdsA Brilliant Bird App Great For Amateur And Professional Ornithologists I Like The Bird Artworks Keep Up With Any Updates It Will Make The App Much Better.Version: 10.06

W ScottThis is the best app of it's kind that I have seen for uk birds, including one at £15. It is brilliant on the ipad, especially the slideshow with birdcalls. It's a steal at this price and I would happily pay for additional variations of photos to add random variety to the slideshow, esp. for some of the species which are slightly under represented. Photographs are beautiful. I hope it will run on my iPhone 2 ?? ... It does! ... Even on my old iphone2! I love it!.Version: 6.1

Great app!Easy to use, great info.Version: 5.1

Bird ManHave tried most of the leading Bird apps. This leaves them all behind. Well worth the cost, It is actually cheaper than all the competition. I wsa a bit reluctant at first because it didn't seem to have a "birds sighted" facility. You can actually use the favourites section to fill all relevant details, eg Date,Time, Location etc, together with notes. The only thing that would make it absolutely perfect would be to be able to place all sightings on a Google map. This is available in Twitcher. Maybe in a future update. It should be possible because you can automatically enter "longtitude and latitude figures in Location..Version: 3.2

BIRDS REUNITED!This is a well thought out, flexible and beautifully presented app. It has become the most enduring app. on my iPad. As if watching birds was not such a great pastime enough, being able to make notes on birds seen, where they were, and what they were doing, enhances the whole aspect of this rewarding activity. And as if this was not enough, being able to hear wonderful recordings of each bird species for various type of call, adds further to the enjoyment. If you are interested in nature at all and birds particularly, GET THIS WONDERFUL APP., you will not regret it. The latest update allowing for landscape viewing is just such welcome and great addition to this fabulous app. Also Looking forward to viewing all the new images provided in the latest update. ENJOY!.Version: 6.1

The bird guide of choiceI can say that this Bird App is in my opinion the best of the bunch. It has a really sensible and intuitive layout and feel, a tremendous amount of information but without feeling cluttered and some of the best collection of bird calls and songs. Both drawings and pictures give you the best aid for identification and a simple button to list of similar species for checking any alternatives. You can make your own notes, add your own pictures - I have been using it for several years and I am still finding new features. Its a joy to use and a pleasure to review although I feel I am still not quite doing it justice..Version: 6.1

RatingGreat app for bird ID..Version: 10.06

Suitable even for the casual bird watcherThere are times when it's just nice to know about a bird you just saw. What is it? Etc. this is a brilliant well thought out app... Would love to see a method of marking in the app when and what I've seen ... A bit like the old I Spy books..Version: 6.1

MC BAs a newby bird watcher, I wondered if the cost of this app would be 'worth it'. I have had such a lot of pleasure from it. I often have an idea as to which bird I am looking at, and will then refer to the range and the photographs to work out what the bird is. I've often listened to the call recordings before going on site ( I don't want to confuse the birds) and have found this function useful. The 'similar' function is good. One downside is that it does not include Orkney or Shetland- two superb bird watching destinations. I have not often / ever found the search by feature function helpful. I think though that at this is MY in ability- operator error- rather than the App. I'd encourage people to buy this & use it..Version: 6.1

IBird UK v5Excellent app, only lacking the multi-bird pictorial comparison available in iBird Pro for North American birds. Excellent value..Version: 5.1

MrIt's a must for birding in the UK! I love it!.Version: 6.0

Not bad appJust purchased as am a novice at this Bird Watching. Gives me all the info I require and can load my photos taken. Only a slight issue, it doesn't show map only gives the long & latt of where you have seen the bird.i know it's not an RSPB App but for completeness it could do with RSPB centres in the UK. Very good app though and well recommended..Version: 5.1

Excellent bird ID for sights & soundsExcellent bird ID for sights & sounds - always return to iBird app to help with my identification. Fantastic app - thank you 😊.Version: 10.06

A first with a bird ID app …….Its dark we are out in the middle of the Norfolk countryside and with the help of this we have just identified the call of two short eared owls. I'm impressed. Like the ability to record the locations of sightings but not sure how to get them on a map yet……...Version: 5.0

IBird UkThis is a brilliant app, pack with information on Birds found in the Uk. It give a description of each bird giving descriptions of the bird, the sounds the bird makes, ie. calls and song, with extra photos and facts. It gives the Birds range, similar species and other visitors that might be seen on occasions..Version: 6.1

VanillaValI really enjoyed using this ap to id and learn about birds on a recent trip to Ireland. The audio aspect was particularly delightful!.Version: 6.1

Best UK bird app! This app is terrific, and has new features that I hope will be coming to the North American apps soon. The sound quality is amazing, and is enhanced by the amplitude and spectrograms for each sound. Most birds have multiple recordings with well-written descriptions. I really enjoy the photo slideshow, which you can set up to view by photographer, species, or family. Having the sound recordings play at the same time has really helped me identify calls. I was also impressed by the artwork and the high quality of photographs. The search engine is easy to use and quickly lets me identify birds, I love that I can take this anywhere and not need an internet connection for this app to work. I have 2 other UK bird apps, and this is by far the best. It is the most comprehensive, has the most photos and sounds, and is a pleasure to use. I 100% recommend this bird app..Version: 3.2
