✓ Excellent for volunteer SAR work.I have been using this free app for quite some time in the field during search operations. It is simple and to the point when all you need is a set of coordinated to relay to command or arrange pick by helicopter. Sharing your location via text when radio comms fails is a significant plus for searcher safety. I did prefer the previous version that had both coordinate systems on one screen, but hey, how hard is it really to swipe a screen. On a side note. I still carry a dedicated gps unit as the antenna is far superior to an iPhone and a buttery change is possible after several hours or days in the bush..ZrigVersion: 2.1

We used it recently on a long coastal footpath walk and it was really useful to get our exact location from time to time so we could check our progress on a Map. It was very useful when we spotted a damaged fence in a remote location that the wardens needed to attend to fairly quickly to retain the grazing horses. Tomstrails gave us instantly the exact map reference of the problem and we sent it off to the wardens. For me I use it on day walks instead of using a GPS unit and for a bushwalker in 85 % Of day walks I go on it means I don't need a plb either, I would be able to just call in the emergency on my phone. Now with a clever addition of a magnetic heading, I am seriously considering only walking with my phone and map. Except for training I have only ever used a compass on a walk to check a quick direction of a track junction and orient a map (I'm old school, must always walk with a map).
