DM1 offers 5 main sections:
1 - THE STEP SEQUENCER frees your imagination with a smart use of the multi-touch screen. Just turn on and off steps in your sequence with the tip of your fingers to create cool beats, or unexpected rhythms!
2 - THE DRUM PADS simply lets you play and record the beat that tickles your fingers. No need to be a first-class drummer, automatic quantize does the work for you.
3 - THE MIXER for quick and subtle sound mixing of your drum kits. Featuring settings for volume, pitch, sample length, custom drum kit element for each channel, mute and solo mode.
4 - THE FX TRACKPADS a creative duo of FX trackpads to distort, modulate and transform your beats. The effects include: Overdrive, Delay, Reverb, Envelope follower, Phaser, Dub Delay, Formant, Texturizer, Robotizer, Filter, Dalek filter, Compressor and Noise Gate.
5 - THE SONG COMPOSER allows you to quickly make a song with the beat patterns you have created. Just drag and drop the patterns onto the timeline. Fast and easy.

DM1 - The Drum Machine Pros

✓ Buy an iPad for this!Update: I still love this app. But as I've gotten more into playing the drum pads, I really want to be able to move them around. Bass and snare need to be in the lower left corner, as in imaschine. Some drum apps (not imaschine) let users move them around - this is perfect. I think there is a workaround in dm1 - I can create a user kit with the sounds reassigned - but this is clumsy. This is the best drum machine I've ever owned - I'd buy an iPad for this alone. It's very customizable. You can adjust the pitch and volume of each instance of each sample, and the effects are a lot of fun (robotizer's my favorite). Easy to learn to get started, and lots of depth for exploration. User kits mean you aren't limited to the built-in sounds - and there are many. To get more vintage drum machines, google the machine drum samples. And the Dropbox interface is super-slick. Also, you can combine pieces of kits by tapping on the sound in in mixer window (a recent reviewer missed this). Wish list: 1. One more vote for audiobus 2. A less limited way of combining kits - the current method allows for only one sound for each type - e.g. Kick. A suggestion - add some user assignable tracks. That should be an easy way of making it backward compatible, and more flexible. Thanks for this - you guys do great stuff..Joey PotatoVersion: 4.1

✗ DM-Updates, but the wrong onesUpdate: still waiting for working cymbals and recorded pitch changes. I also noticed that the pitch change doesn't even work for live triggers, which would partially make up for having only 1 tom, because when you need it there is terrible distortion when you try to bend a note. This might be new since the update. New kits like the tympani could really use this, since there is only a few tympani hits mixed with totally unrelated percussion. Old: I honestly thought I was getting a serious drum machine app. This, in its current state, is not. As pointed out, pitch changes are not recorded, but the real kicker (pun) for me is that the hi-hat does not choke closed, which is normal, expected behavior from a drum machine. This is what separates a fun toy drum app from a serious music production app. It is unusable to me until this is updated, and is more important than adding audio copy/paste or toms..ScottNewton09Version: 2.0

✗ Great but currently unusable on ipad2Have been using DM1 in a professional studio context for some time and have found it really useful but since the last iOS update it's just gone to pieces. Crashes irrevocably on startup, every time, despite the latest update aimed at stopping that happening on ipad2. I feel like I once owned a really useful drum machine but it got stolen - as this app no longer works at all. Am hoping the developers have the will/resource/expertise to fix this, as I bought it not rented it for a few months. Would be a five-star app but for this serious problem that's been going on for a long time now. The two star rating is really only in fond memory of what it was as currently it's completely broken, at least on my hardware..StuckinflatVersion: 5.0.2
