DM1 - The Drum Machine for Negative User Reviews

Not workingNot working on my iPad 2 ... Too bad it's seems like a nice app :-(.Version: 3.0.2

Learning it...and frustrated...I want to give this app a higher rating because it’s awesome in its concept, I’m having a few issues though. When running with audio bus I have to go to the IPad settings each time and turn the microphone off and back on for the app to “wake up”, and it reverts back to 110BPM and gets stuck there each time I transfer a beat to GarageBand..it has worked as advertised just once.. all available instructions are being followed.Version: 6.1

AwfulNot clear how anything is done and asking for a refund has resulted in this because you don’t make it simple. please give me my money back..Version: 6.1.3

DM1 Drum machine....Great drum machine for iOS Would be even better if it was AUv3. Maybe this will happen soon????? Can't complain though .....Version: 6.1.3

Nice try, want my money backGood interface but who are you kidding with the TR 808.? The kick is awful, no matter how much you try to tweak it it sounds nothing like an 808 kick. I am very disappointed..Version: 1.0.1

Great but currently unusable on ipad2Have been using DM1 in a professional studio context for some time and have found it really useful but since the last iOS update it's just gone to pieces. Crashes irrevocably on startup, every time, despite the latest update aimed at stopping that happening on ipad2. I feel like I once owned a really useful drum machine but it got stolen - as this app no longer works at all. Am hoping the developers have the will/resource/expertise to fix this, as I bought it not rented it for a few months. Would be a five-star app but for this serious problem that's been going on for a long time now. The two star rating is really only in fond memory of what it was as currently it's completely broken, at least on my hardware..Version: 5.0.2

Something is missingDon't get me wrong. This is an absolutely great app. It just needs a few more things to bring it up to that 5 start rating. First off, being able to load and record your own samples into the app would be f'n brilliant. And second. Live recording during live mixing of sequencers. Last but not least. Being able to use more then one sample set in a track ( layering ) would make this the best sequencer app of its kind. Then the 5 stars will come rolling in. Keep it up..Version: 2.0.1

Stay away. Could be great but...So easy to use and for less than a tenner all in (incl iap) you get a lot of sounds and functionality but unfortunately everyone else is correct: the timing is off (on iPad Pro at least) which makes it virtually unusable without a lot of extra faff. Such a shame. As someone requested a fix for this OVER A YEAR AGO I guess I may as well ask for my money back..Version: 6.1.4

Do not updateThe last update causes mine not to function. Was fine previously..Version: 6.1.3

Nice toy on its own butA good stock of samples but midi implementation is poor. Glitchy when clocking from mac via network sessions (stops and starts of its own accord) and doesn't take clock or start / stop from genome sequencer or anything else on the same ipad even though it is set to , when other synth apps take clock and note info from the genome sequencer just fine . Starting and stoping and staying in sync are basic and fundamental functions of any piece of music equipment. Without these basic issues being addressed it's just an isolated toy and not a proper instrument. Its too basic to be a serious instrument on its own so it has to clock right with other apps ! If one ends up paying for these things without being able to test them then the basic stuff has to be correct , otherwise it's just a rip-off ! I don't know where apple are going giving awards to things that are fundamentally flawed. It shows a lack of understanding about what the app is for. Maybe it's just now when iPads , etc are getting fast enough to be a serious music proposition that these kind of multi apps at once issues are becoming more prevalent but a lot of the developers (especially Korg) need to get there fingers out and sort the midi sync stuff out if they want the ipad to be used as an instrument. Midi has been around since the 80's and there's no excuse for not getting it running right. Start with the timing when ur doing a music app , u know , timing , music , basics !.Version: 4.0.3

Crashes. Was excited for update, but it keeps crashing as soon as the red bar finishes across the top of the screen when loading..Version: 6.1

Seem to recall i used this app …… years ago, but not that much. Maybe with the then current audio copy/audiobus features. But no updates in years suggests this apps been abandoned ...Version: 6.2

Import/export issuesThe import option doesn't work AT ALL on my iPad mini. I can't open it from email or the Dropbox. So annoying and it completely ruins the momentum of music writing. Please please please fix this. No reason it shouldn't be working.Version: 5.0.4

Sounds amazing, but one major flaw...So at least on my iPad Pro, the app does not play at exactly the right tempo! That’s a pretty major problem for a musician - it’s a few beats behind. So a beat at 110bpm is more like 106bpm, making it impossible to get in time with other apps. Weirdly, it works fine on iPhone. Please fix this! The drums sound amazing but the fact that it won’t play in time is a major limitation.Version: 6.1.3

Latest Update Killed My Saved Songs! The latest update has completely ruined my saved songs! Dev, revert back to the previous version, this one is buggy as hell!.Version: 5.0

IOS8 Has ruined it.The platform update has ruined DM1 and many other apps, all the sounds are distorted, can't use it..Version: 4.2

!!!!!Great app but since the new update I haven't been able to use the inter-app audio with garage band. It's just says "app not available" if you could fix this with an update that would be great, as I love using the inter-app audio feature!.Version: 5.1

What happened to midi!!I have owned this app forever. It was my favorite go to drum app. Hands down! All the others take much longer to lay out a beat or are glitchy and all over the place ( beat hawk). Anyways I have zero midi options available now. Not even network anymore. I own a ton of apps and dm1 doesn't recognize one. It's been like this for a while but no one has returned my email. Very frustrating. I have an ipad 4 can run 3 or 4 apps at once (music ) but not even use this. Disappointed..Version: 5.0.5

Intuitive but lacking total musical freedomIve been drumming for 12 years and write some pretty technical/ fast rhythms (modern progressive metal)! No time signature change or duple to triple meter change!? This is a must! I was thinking touch and hold the circular diode or metronome lights for a) mid-measure time signature change and or b) switch to triple meter for a triplet feel! Also 64th note subdivision would be awesome! This a a great app and has so much potential for a complete groove factory! Ps i kno you can adjust the time sig from 4/4 to say 3/4 but to be able to go back and forth between sigs is crucial for my 5 stars! Also the ability to add fx to only select patterns not just the whole song... And ability to change kit sounds independently within patterns that dont change for entire song... This would allow users to build any kit... Have any sound in any measure they want!!!.Version: 2.1

Something has gone wrongSomething has gone wrong with this app. It used to be great but now it doesn’t seem to hold saved drum patterns which is embarrassing in the middle of a show. Fix this right away as I recall paying for this app..Version: 6.1.3

No goodLimited to 9 samples for a kit. Why? Each kit has different samples but show up with the same labels. Using a studio kit, the sample listed as “hhopen” is a snare sample, for example, rather than open hats. When building a song, you are directed to long tap your patterns and drag them into the sequence. This works only sometimes. For the most part, you’re sitting there repeatedly tapping and holding, waiting for the app to select your pattern so you can drag it. I just wasted $5.Version: 6.1

No midi clock/Link sync in Audiobus 2Okay, I'm going to eat a small slice of humble pie here. After giving it a 1 star review and deleting it I later went on to the Ableton Link site where it stated this was officially a Link-enabled app. After reinstalling and fiddling around with this I managed to link it in Audiobus 2 to other Link apps and get them to synch. Sort of. The features of DM1 are now useable in a musical context to a degree but the syncing in some cases is poor. Minus two stars for not getting it right with Link in Audiobus. Delete..Version: 6.0.2

Unuseable - crashes in every instance of use.I cant get it to load into audiobus in ipad pro gen 1. Fully updated. Audiobus 3. I open it in a lane on audiobus.. it crashes and says ‘tap to launch’ I keep trying, i reboot.. Same thing. Its become useless so im going to delete it and leave you with 3 stars. Those stars are for the artists who submitted their great sounds otherwise id go lower..Version: 6.1.1

What happened? DM1 is constantly deleting my files!!!For the third time in as many days, I've lost 4+ hours of music-project work to DM-1. The app has recently started resetting/reverting/deleting everything I've just finished working on the moment the app is closed and re-opened. You know what's frustrating? Spending 4+ hours working on music and finally coming up with something you're relatively happy with, only to open the app again five minutes later and find all of that work gone. And assuming that you must have done something wrong, so going through the entire process again, and losing another 4+ hours worth of work. And then assuming you're totally missing something, so really getting in there and trying to figure out what's going on--and then, once you think you've got it figured out, spending another 4+ hours on writing music that is immediately deleted. I've sworn by this app for YEARS. I've made a lot of music with it. I've purchased it for friends, and recommended it to countless others. I mean, it's been around for a while, so I figure the developer too busy working on other projects to bother updating/fixing this thing. Or maybe they're all but officially out of business? Ugh. So frustrating. What a bummer. I've tried contacting the Fingerlab team via Twitter, but no response (yet)..Version: 5.7.4

MIDI control? Not....Bought it because on the webwite it says "Full MIDI implementation" - sadly this is not true. Basic stop/start via midi pedal not possible. So a hands only operation, useless for live. The sounds are great, just a shame about the lack of proper MIDI functionality. Also no way to contact support from the website....Bias FX & Quantiloop both have full MIDI implementation - take a look at what that means Fingerlab..Version: 6.1

Won't openAlways crashes on startup. I love the Mac version dearly and would love to have this working..Version: 4.2

Recording?Everything is great but not be able to record your mixes makes this App pointless....Version: 2.0.1

What a waste of time and moneyThe acoustic sounds are totally useless. Only 9 sounds at a time? And no even two samples per sound. This is literally a toy and it's advertised as a professional tool. MIDI control doesn't work every time you open the app. You have to go to Song>MIDI and then it works, every single time. Labels on the pads are nonsense and useless..Version: 6.2

Greedy company, app nothing specialWARNING, RIP OFF ALERT! I cannot believe these guys want us to purchase this app twice for our ipad and iPhone. It's the same darn app on iphone and ipad so this is just greed plain and simple. As far as the app goes its nothin special at all. The pads are not even touch sensitive and the samples are low grade so it's basically just a toy. I recommend IGOG. IGOG is light years beyond it for drums but is for real musicians who can already keep a beat. But, If you have little or no music ability and just want to keep time and the sounds don't really matter then this app will do it for you, but nothing more..Version: 4.0.1

Not working with iOS 8Not compatible with iOS 8....can't even launch.Version: 4.1

Improper time signatureCurrently using iPad 5th Gen latest software. I've used this app for a few years, and it's always been fairly reliable. However recently, I try to setup a 5/4, or 3/4 time signature. And it continually sets up in 4/4. Which makes mapping out the beat quickly, a rather pain and headache..Version: 6.1.8

Can’t import samples from audio shareTitle says it all. Impossible to import drum samples from my library into app..Version: 6.2

Treble !I just purchase the acoustic drums pack, they are all almost the same with just changing the pitches and some touches in their effects..Version: 6.0

Good, on the occasion that it feels like working.DM1 can actually be a fairly enjoyable app especially if you are like me, in that you frequently find yourself tapping out rhythm's on your desk and wondered what they would sound like id you had a drum kit handy. If I could sum it up, I would say that it is great fun when it works, but it works so infrequently that it is not worth the asking price... Or the bytes of storage it occupies. The problem is that this program is bugged. Every so often, and for no reason at all the pitch on every instrument is altered and you cant do a single thing to correct it. Uninstall the app and the. Re install? Nope. Adjust the pitch manually? Not a chance... This is such a silly bug, but it is a show stopping one and that is a shame, because when this app works its a great little time waster. However the occasions that it works are interrupted by long, long, incredibly long bouts of it being broken and on those occasions it is a waste of time and money..Version: 4.1

DM-Updates, but the wrong onesUpdate: still waiting for working cymbals and recorded pitch changes. I also noticed that the pitch change doesn't even work for live triggers, which would partially make up for having only 1 tom, because when you need it there is terrible distortion when you try to bend a note. This might be new since the update. New kits like the tympani could really use this, since there is only a few tympani hits mixed with totally unrelated percussion. Old: I honestly thought I was getting a serious drum machine app. This, in its current state, is not. As pointed out, pitch changes are not recorded, but the real kicker (pun) for me is that the hi-hat does not choke closed, which is normal, expected behavior from a drum machine. This is what separates a fun toy drum app from a serious music production app. It is unusable to me until this is updated, and is more important than adding audio copy/paste or toms..Version: 2.0

Why did you change it?I use this app for teaching… Guitar and bass. It used to default to the last pattern I wrote, which was useful… now it always goes to this “song,” and I have to go through a few more steps and rewrite my pattern. By default distortion is turned on… I don’t know if it just doesn’t make sense..Version: 6.2

A Tragic LossThis used to be a good app. The basic design is still great - it's very intuitive for the most part, easy to use and kind of fun to mess about with. The quality of the sampled sounds was never brilliant, but there were a few good, usable kits available. The export function is horribly broken though, despite claims in the current release notes that they've been fixed. Very often, separately exported tracks are 'empty', even if you've written content into them. (I've found the snare drum, present on the iPad, is often silent in its exported version, for example). Without the ability to import discrete tracks into Garageband or Logic, DM1 is pretty useless at the moment..Version: 5.0.2

Yep it's weirdPads are incorrectly labelled. V frustrating. Go to hit a cow bell, it's a ride cymbal. Seriously how hard would it be to get the pad labels lined up with the actual sound? $9 wasted. Off to find an sequencer app where the developer wasn't drunk when they assigned the pads..Version: 5.6.1

UselessThis was a great drum machine but since it's recent update it won't work in conjunction with any other apps which makes it useless. If you have a lil bit too much memory on your device, like collecting icons on your home screen or just wanna waste $10 then go for it but other than those uses its no good..Version: 5.0

Midi in not workingGreat drum machine excellent sounds, but won’t recognise midi data from either my hardware controllers or software sequencers..Version: 6.1.3

Lost all saved patterns on new update 👎👎👎Updated due to iPad 2 audiobus crashing issue. After updating, have lost all previous patterns and replaced with random ones I have not created. That's a damn shame Margaret 👎.Version: 5.0.2

Please fix the timing on iPad ProOne of my fav apps until.... won’t work properly as other reviewers said on iPad Pro. The timing /bpm is wrong and not in sync with other apps bpm. Please fix then a 5 stars..Version: 6.1.3

Love the app but not this updateCrashes a lot and the metronome is completely broken, what?.Version: 5.3

So Much Potential, NO ConsistencyThis app could be amazing and is when it works. I get 2 different sounds when playing through the iPad speakers but then when I plug in a, eighth inch jack to lay down a simple beat in a demo, it completely changes, half the sounds disappear, and the other half perform for a fraction of a second or become nearly muted. It worked really well for a week but now it won’t work while plugged in. If you wanna just tap out some beats and play around, great, but trying to record anything with this is a complete waste of time..Version: 6.1.3

Better quality samples neededIt's a keeper just for the interface. For me the best thing about it is being able to mix live recordable FX to individual drum sounds. But I wouldn't use this as a main drum as the samples seem to be low bit? There are seemingly no warm bassy or analog high end recordings. Everything sounds thin, industrial, compressed or tinny. The noisy samples let this down. Whack up the quality and app fie size and you'll have something worthy. At the moment this becomes a backing percussion drum machine for digital fx only. Also are we able to user edit drum kits easily with lists from the already installed sample banks? I couldn't see it if you can. The randomiser didn't work for me. It just kept flashing an error - not intuitive to the reason for that. The reverb is also digitally noisy. Overall, this app needs some work to make it sound more beautiful. :-) MIRAI (audio engineer for Yamaha, Tokyo).Version: 3.0.2
