The Economist (Legacy) US Pros

Please bring back the old designFirst, I'd like to mention this is the first review I've ever written for an iOS app. Normally I don't take the time to write a full review, and instead simple tap 1 or 5 stars to indicate my general thoughts of an app. However, I have been a subscriber to The Economist for roughly 10 years now, and have been reading on the iPhone or iPad almost exclusively for at least the past 5 years. I thus have a stronger opinion of this app than most of the others on my iOS devices. The new design is shockingly minimalist and navigates akin to a Microsoft Word document written by a secondary school student, not a professional newspaper. I much prefer the older user interface, which included columns and infographics/pictures attractively interspersed throughout each article. Furthermore, one could page through articles, and get a sense of their length by dots along the bottom of the iPad screen. Now, there is only scrolling from top to bottom on both iPhone and iPad apps. Please bring back the old UI..PaddyfivesVersion: 4.0.10

If you believe in true liberalism, there is no better magazineJust the best, most rational and most balanced magazine in the world. I have been subscribing for 26 years and for the past seven years, to the digital version which I prefer to the print magazine..Phil BakesVersion: 4.2.5

The Economist (Legacy) US Cons

The worrying exceptionThe Economist has long-been an informer of outstanding quality. Is its problematic app for the iPhone signaling its decline? From constant crashes and strange white bars, to the much more frustrating "re-login" (which forces its subscribers to download all their content each time the app is turned off and turned on again) the Economist app has attracted negative iTunes reviews for years. Unfortunately, the only change coming from the venerated publication has been unrelated. The number of corrections listed weekly in each magazine has nearly doubled in the past two years. In addition to frequency, the scope of these errors has increased as well (the most recent one being the inclusion of Norway in OPEC). Over the last decade, the Economist's readership has grown by leaps and bounds. Worries now surface that the publication has become complacent in its success. The Economists unique format, global coverage and libertarian views have long attracted high-caliber international advertisers ranging from the CIA to entire countries. Few other sources of news can claim such a strong allegiance of both university students and business elite. Much like Apple, the Economist has created a niche market in which it has few competitors. A slip in quality of content and delivery could bring an end to this ideal situation. Doubtless, this will be of little surprise to its readers..JaboolaVersion: 2.2

Hating this...Great content, but the app is so bad it makes you fight to get content that you paid for. I routinely have to repeatedly download content and struggle to download the audio as I am always greeted by the "no network connection" pop up. I can't believe such a reputable magazine went out with such a dreadful app..Log jammingVersion: 2.4.2
