✓ Awful changes madeHornet these days has curated content created by their staff that is frequently uploaded to you newsfeed. It is very much buzzfeed-esque, with staff social opinions accompanying many of the posts on things such as fat shaming, and more frivolous topics. It very much feels like creepy social engineering as there is no opt out option, moral stances are provided, and my experience is that member voices are heavily (over) moderated. You are essentially told here what you will see and what you will think about what you see. It may be a long time in waiting, but rest assured that eventually we have have blockchain enhanced decentralised versions of these apps that give power, choice and freedom to our communities..Version: 5.15.0

I’ll give them a few chances to revert the changes but failing that I’ll delete the app, don’t need two Grindrs. Oh and this app now makes high pitched beeping sounds even when your sound is off. The only way to get rid of them is to block as reporting does nothing. These messages have been ongoing. For literally months. ✓ The app now makes a loud beeping noiseThis app makes a high pitch repeating beep sound that does not stop unless you quit the app. It's a far cry from any sort of private and peaceful use of the app, and has now I'm worried that everyone will stare at me when I use the app because of the atmosphere piercing beeping sound that it now emits. This is the type of thing you would expect to be tested before released to the public. Unless the loud beeping was intentionally introduced to the application. ✓ Sooo many catfishes and fakesFirst, unless you go premium it’s about sixty seconds of ads for every 30 seconds of usage. But my biggest issue, a constant barrage of fake profiles: “Can I have your line? Your WhatsApp?”. One upside? They try to get you on telegram and another app. They ask you for either you’re email or user name. When you tell them your fine on here they snub you or stop talking. There is no way to contact the app support or anyone unless you “report” them. If your not familiar with scams be cautious. If they are not local be cautious again. When I ask them where there from I have gotten the exact response each time. “I’m on a Peace keeping mission overseas and will be back in the states soon”. You can almost here there accent in the way they write, and don’t forget about the really bad spelling. Had one guy say he was from “Texas, Houston”. When I corrected him, he told me I was incorrect. ✓ FAKE PROFILESA nice idea though I don’t see the need to categorize the chats as they are. The main problem are the fakes; at best they waste time, but at worst they’ll scam you out of money and potentially your identity. I don’t know if that’s really possible, but I’m sure lots of folks enable location tags on pics and I know one’s email is linked to many apps, including bank apps. Even if that isn’t a problem, Hornet needs to do more. If I, a user, can find where the same photo has been used in three profiles, then surely a tech company can do the same- and I’ve reported quite a few profiles. I have a photo storage app that automatically identifies and collates pictures of people; why does Hornet do that? I’ve been chatted up by no fewer than FIFTEEN fake scammers in one week. Hornet does offer nice advice on instant protestations of love and “too good to be true” issues, and boy do these fakes deliver there. Military, on a mission but coming home soon, maybe a dog or two... strange though, that a guy supposedly born and raised in the states can’t type in English. It’s more than just grammatically poor, it’s absolutely incomprehensible. Hornet needs to find a way to weed these out somehow. ✓ Glitchy at bestEvery single message I receive has to be opened twice, usually having to leave the app and return to it in order to get rid of the notification bubble. In addition, sometimes I receive a message from a new person, try to open it and find there is no new message but the notification for it won’t go away. The app has to be deleted and redownloaded. ✓ Constant fake catfishing scammer profilesWhat used to be quite a good app, now seems to be mainly populated by fake catfishing scammer accounts. Several times a day there’s some unsolicited messages from new profiles based thousands of miles away, requesting private pictures and WhatsApp or personal contact details. Despite reporting them to admin, they still seem to be active several weeks later, and there’s no facility to attach the messages they send when they are reported. Also, accounts that are quite clearly using fake photos stolen from either famous people, easily googled and identified which have been reported, (and I even tell admin who they’ve nicked the photos off!) STILL remain active...if you’re going to use this app, be warned that most of the messages you’ll receive will probably be from a fake account, and even if you report the account, admin seem unable, or unwilling to actually do anything about it...very disappointing....Version: 7.7.0

It was definitely not my friend and he confirmed it. Of course the fake user was making political discourse... I really think these “LGBTQ+” social apps might be an attempt to make identity politics out to be more popular than it truly is. I used to be more progressive minded, as were a number of my friends, but when you see most real LGBTQ+ people in person are nothing like on these “LGBTQ+” social networks (whom the media doesn’t seem to publicize as much as they do the “elites”), you realize there’s something off about the ebb and flow of these internet social networks. But then this is just for cyberloafer people without real jobs that moreso waste their time online. This is where the propaganda for identity politics flows. Posting in my feed about this results in the post disappearing. Replying to this profile with the question results in the message disappearing... Image search on google usually finds the profile pictures belong to someone on Instagram or similar.. Hornet has gone bad and the way they are doing it is SO OBVIOUS that I question why. What do they stand to gain, unless the app itself is malicious? Since then, the cramming of new features and the push to get people to spend money has really ruined the app. Why have things like “who has viewed you” been put into the filter controls?! It’s just dumb! Anything to do with ME should be clearly accessible from MY profile. NOT buried in hidden menus. Maybe then you could convince more people to actually consider buying a subscription. Bugs found: uploading new photos aren’t visible unless you refresh the UI (change tabs), once I block someone - I should be taken back to the previous screen, messages are jumping out of order and only fix if you sign out and back in and the notification badge in the app doesn’t clear even when you have read a message (you have to go back into the chat for it to update). This is all primitive functionality and you can no longer get that right. More infuriatingly (and I believe against Apple’s terms and conditions) - your ad partners have started playing music and redirecting to the App Store! So far it is always someone from Africa/Togo to be clear, impersonating someone in the US Military. Several times it has led to asking me to send them a phone as theirs isn’t working well, but they seem to be communicating fine from their phone, to claims they are in Afghanistan and have an ulcer from the food on Base and are looking for help funding their off-Base restraint bill. In all cases it was easy to see the unsophisticated deception as the person on the other end isn’t really talking proper English. Their texts are often off grammar, miss basic Americanisms that anyone would easily type. ✓ Appallingly BadOver the last year it has been evident that the owners of this app are only interested in milking it financially for all that it is worth. Crap about serving the gay community is, in reality, nothing more than about lining the pockets of the few who own Hornet. Not every gay man is out and/ or able to live freely in their country -an issue that is regularly pushed as a noble cause by the Hornet Team - and so many users are confronted my ever reducing free profile numbers to view, endless adverts promoting crypto currency or other gambling sites (promoting gambling to guys suffering with identity and self esteem is not what I would call a good idea), which just creates an appallingly bad and potentially dangerous user experience for some. You are constantly interrupted with advertisements and cannot enjoy this app. On top of the enormous amounts of advertisements you also get bombarded with bots that send you messages trying to scam you. It happens when sending and receiving messages within the app. Their solution, turn off vibrate for everything on your entire phone, because they are too lazy to remove the stupid feature. I could cope with the legitimate advertising, after all, the app has to be paid for somehow and there is always the option to upgrade to an paid for version with no ads. Is that not the same as Hornet Points? Why would you make it that confusing just to completely forgo an explanation that is easy to access in-app? Make me WANT to use your app, rather than lock me out of most features of which, I don't know how to use so there is no incentive for me to subscribe, anyway!
