London - A City Through Time for Positive User Reviews

Beautiful encyclopedic view of LondonWith lots of visuals, music of the period and a timeline you can scrub through easily, this app is a wonderful look at one of Europe's great cities. A must have for tourists with an interest in history. Well done!.Version: 1.0

London - A City Through TimeThis app is outstanding! beautiful pictures, easily navigated, loads of information about each topic and very thorough. Includes several unusual sites and perspectives. It truly enriched our recent week in London and I look forward to using it during our next visit..Version: 1.6

Truly wonderful App!I purchased this a few months ago, and I can't stop using it. It is beautifully put together, full of historical pictures, paintings, film footage, articles & facts and even celebrities take you on a tour of their favourite area's of this wonderful city. It is easy to use, and has a vocal guide if needed. It is just crammed with information. so if like me, you love your history, or just using as a reference, This is the App to have. I highly recommend it..Version: 1.1

LondonExtremely educational,I am so glad I have downloaded this app..Version: 1.3

Massive App, Book, Wiki... What is it?An overwhelming amount of content, multiple ways to navigate, search and discover content. Interesting to see not all content was in the app, I was a little disappointed to see I had to download more content, but I suppose it would have been even bigger. Overall a very nice app, with great content..Version: 1.0

App is great. Audio info!Only posting this as quick reminder: Check App mute (not the one in Settings, or using volume on side) by double tapping home key, swipe to right. Make sure THAT mute icon is not in mute mode. Audio works after that. There is link to this info on developers support page. Never knew that this mute controlled certain non system sounds. Enjoy London. LW.Version: 1.0

A Virtual Treasure BoxSuperb! Worth every cent. I got this for an upcoming vacation, but it is much more. It is brimming with historical information and the colorful detail I wanted. Rich design, clever, easy navigation, full of pictures, and even some old newsreels. It can be quick reference or a great way to just follow your curiosity. A fine way to explore London from anywhere. The opening narrative is good, but a written info page with more detail of what is included would be helpful, too. This is an app that just keeps giving..Version: 1.0

A must have iPad appFew apps are truly worthy of their price tag and at £9.99..this really is a leap of faith...but worth every penny. Now there will be many out there who have no interest in London or its history...if this is the case, stay away from this expense. On the other hand if you live in the UK or intend to visit London, this app will provide more than any tour guide will ever be able to in a weekend. The content is cleverly arranged to be able to navigate different periods in history / people / locations...however, if you need to find a particular article, the search function is net to useless. We have come across articles randomly and then tried to search for them again only to be told that they don't exist...they do..for an example..the great fire of London...if you type this it will come back with nothing found...you have to search fires and then choose from that list. Other commenters have already said that there is a lot more to download once you have the apps and we were quite surprised at the little amount of information was provided on some key players in our history. Many articles had a simple picture, two lines of text and then a link to Wikipedia. The audio tours and combined 360 panoramic pictures are great, they really do make you feel like your are stood there listening to your own personal tour guide. Overall, this is a great app and like a couple of others, this sets the benchmark for other developers. My only gripe is the search function, with this amount of content, you really do need a solid intelligent search agent and sadly this app lacks just that. Still highly recommended even at the price..Version: 1.0

Beautiful and expansiveWorth every penny in my opinion, this is a fine example of a city guide through the ages. I fully intend to take it with me the next time I take my kids into London, and am keen to try out the location based guide whilst we walk around. Well done..Version: 1.0

Beautiful.Beautiful app for my very beautiful city,LONDON..Version: 1.0

Best App I haveThis is a must for anyone visiting London.it has everything you need to know about this great city..Version: 1.1

Fantastic AppThis app is not only beautiful, but also very rich in historic detail and information. It is very interactive and easy to use. It is worth every penny of the seemingly-steep price..Version: 1.6

Worth buying an iPad for! This is a fantastic app, and worth every penny of what first appears to be a relatively high price. Infact after first exploring it for just a few minutes you soon forget the price that you've paid. One could literally get lost for hours travelling through time, exploring the years, places, people, and items that this app includes. Along with fantastic video, audio, and imagery it's a great documentary piece all about this great city. Well done to the developers of this app for providing iPad users with a great piece of work, and I'm sure my kids are going to enjoy learning through this app also..Version: 1.0

Truly OutstandingI am fascinated by the city London. This app satisfies all of my curiosities and more. Even though I live a world away I feel like this app gives me a little piece of the city. Even the audio-walking tours have 360 panoramic shots to explore key landmarks while you listen. Interested in the London underground or the history of the Kings and Queens of England? It's all here in the fantastic app. Some of the bigger reference apps can be a bit disappointing but this one is a true delight. Thank you!!!.Version: 1.0

A city through time. LondonA very good and most informative app the price tag is just good value loads of ex pictures like the option to download the big pics a consideration for some. Timeline layout is clear and leads to many interesting articles. ++++.Version: 1.0

The top London AppI have always called myself a "Londoner" and now with all this extra info I really can. A great App for my great city. Thank you !.Version: 1.0

Very nicely doneI own quite a few books on London and its history, so spending £9.99 on an app actually is not that bad for the information you get from it. I would say this is cracking value and very informative for a general overview of the background for this incredible city..Version: 1.0

A must have!I am a thirteen year old who loves history and this app bring London's history to life. Also, I have just had common entrance examinations. This app made history revision fun. Therefore, I was able to pass my examinations and do incredibly well in History. THIS APP IS A MUST AND I USE IT OFTEN! Alex.Version: 1.0

Fantastic historical appIf you're familiar with the 'London Encyclopedia' then you're already familiar with this app. Essentially the vast majority of information seems to be a direct copy of that text, only with the added benefit of photos, videos and portability, which the book is rather lacking. The menu system is fast, responsive and it's clear alot of detail and attention has gone to making the product value for money, with panoramic views of popular sites and even musical excerpts from various centuries to give you a flavour of the time. The negative points are that it seems some articles are not as up to date as you'd expect and occasionally the interface can seem a bit clunky to navigate, although saying that the information is extremely good and more often than not any interface issues are minor. There is an option to email the creators to notify them of errors or omissions which is good, I've not tried it out yet but having had this for a few months I've not seen any updates from the App Store, so I don't know exactly what happens regarding that. Doing research on London I think the book will always dominate, however if you want to take the book with you for convienance and more then this app is very useful, helpful and a real feast for the eyes and the only app I've bought at a £10 price point and not regretted it, so yes well worth it for any serious London historians as a starting point for their research, however like I say if you have the book, you might find it not to be that worth it just for the extra pictures/maps/music and video you get as the information is the same..Version: 1.4

Fabulous App!This app is just amazing. So much information and the ability to move from topic to topic is great. I've spent hours on it already. I love the mix of articles, videos, pictures, maps, music and art. It's a history lovers dream..Version: 1.0

Great appWhat a brilliant app! I wish we had those when I was in school, studying history. Can not put it down..Version: 1.0

FANTABULOUSEverything you need to know about London an then some. Worth twice the price. Very apply (sorry!) indeed..Version: 1.6

Good app !!Highly educational app of London past and present !! A great one for anyone visiting the capital or just for educational purposes !! Give it a try.....it's good !!.Version: 1.3

In the top 10One of the best apps for the iPad. This app is huge, informative and offers scores of ways of exploring London past and present. A book that included this content would cost a frat deal more and not include video, music and interactive 3D. Just buy it!.Version: 1.0

A true pleasureNo sound problem for me - it can be turned on and off with the iPad's mute button. Hard to describe the depth of content. A favorite article so far is on the A-Z guide - I had no idea it was created by one woman who spent over a year walking 3,000 miles around the city. Have yet to submit my own "My London" pick, but am enjoying narrowing down my choice. Wonderful audio tours with 360 views of the sites discussed. Great period video files from pathe news - have esp. enjoyed the "Fluffies" (post-war women in charge of cleaning the Underground) and the 60s era futuristic model of the "new" Picadilly Circus (little, if any, of which came to pass). Makes me proud to have once lived in this extremely dynamic city..Version: 1.0

MGI haven't yet had time to look long enough but what I have seen is excellent. I will return to it many times. So interesting. Margot.Version: 1.0

London - A City Through TimeThis is what the iPad is for; this is what tourists all over the world have been waiting for. To have in the palm of your hand the history of the city you're visiting, to have visual tasters of everything you want to see, to have directions as to how to get there and to have in-depth explanations of the social conditions in which they were created - this is the key to a totally different and infinitely more satisfying tourist experience than anything you have had before. Please, Heuristic Media, I want an app like this for every one of the great cities of the world that I want to visit. It's an absolutely beautiful production and a must have app for anyone visiting this great city in its Olympic year. Just brilliant, thank you!.Version: 1.0

A tale of Two citiesNo other app has brought London so thrillingly to life in all it's myriad details, it's like an Aladdins treasure trove of incredible detail, the full-scale photos are amazing, the spinnable 3-D objects are brilliant, however what lets this thing down is the fustian nature of the articles from MacMillans London encyclopaedia. The Pathe news videos are quite amusing especially of the 15 year old boy who rescued seven men during the blitz and got to enjoy ginger beer in a pub. The detailed timelines, the panoramas and the sheer magnitude of the whole design are a landmark of app development..Version: 1.0

A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.I haven't seen anything like that for years. It feels like they knew exactly how to make it works both ways: academical and very entertaining. We spent 2 hours non-stop playing with it. The quality of the app itself (graphics, layout) and quality of information is the best you can find these days. It feels that people who created this program have something in common with us - they love London.Thank you guys!It was great fun..Version: 1.6

A must buyFor anyone who has an Interest in history this is a must. Packed with information & extremely well designed. Never mind the £9.99 price tag, this is worth every penny, & more..Version: 1.0

NiceA very nice London companion. Perhaps best used in the company of the Michelin Green Guide. Could have used a LOT more copy editing. Lots and lots of outright errors. Would have been nice to be able to navigate on the historical maps, apart from being able to view or download them. Notably missing is the current Underground chart (unless I'm missing something). The current Bus routes and schedules would also have been a nice-to-have, or at least links thereto..Version: 1.0

Fantastic AppWorth every penny and more. Was lucky enough to have received an iTunes voucher from a friend for my birthday and this app is one of my nicest presents. The interactivity and content is fabulous. Will keep me entertained for many a day..Version: 1.0

EpicThis is one of the most exciting and in-depth apps I have ever seen - based on the London Encyclopaedia, it's a one-stop resource for fans of London and its history. Its 360 degree panoramic views (in particular, the one from the top of The Shard) are stunning. It has also been developed in association with The Museum of London, so it is incredibly informative and offers historical Pathé footage, as well as many other special resources. Wonderful stuff..Version: 1.0

MrWhat an amazing app. Not like anything else out there. The first of new kind of media, guide/map/history book. I am constantly traveling with my work and I wish I could get one for every city visit..Version: 1.4

Sound works greatI love this app, every time I pick it up I find something new. So much content. I love the audio visual help. The iPad was made for apps like this. A real audio visual treat..Version: 1.1

An app that just keeps on givingFantastic app that is beautifully designed. It will provide hours of entertainment by turning what would otherwise be a voluminous and formidable encyclopedia into an easy to navigate and capturing lesson in history. The app also doubles as a london travel guide with audio books and places of interest!.Version: 1.1

No soundI love this app but cannot hear the music. Someone mentioned you have to unmute the iPad button but can't figure how to do it. Help!.Version: 1.0

It's good!Well, I decided to get the moths out of the wallet and purchased this app as I've always been interested in history. On opening it up I've been amazed at how much work has gone into it. Not only graphics but video, audio and a wealth of knowledge and it will take me some time to go through all of it. What I've seen is superb and to be honest well worth the money in the audio walks around London alone. I know it's expensive but well worth it. The kids will learn so much and what you thought you knew about London can change very quickly! Great app and well done to the developers..Version: 1.0

MasterpieceThis app is jam packed full of interesting content, It's completely engrossing yet sensibly priced. if you like history or London then you will love this app. I'm a software developer myself, and I can safely say I've never seen any content based app this exciting..Version: 1.0

All-singing and dancing LondonThere is so much of this App to love - the panoramic views (especially from the Shard), the astonishing depth of information, the spinning stills, the audio... It brings an amazing city to life. Fabulous..Version: 1.0
