YONDER: Stories & Fiction for Negative User Reviews

It is supposed to be free 😤Yonder has good books but I wish we could read them I cannot finish any of the books I am reading because you have to pay money to read the last 5 chapters. I don’t recommend this to anyone because they say it is free but it isn’t. I give this a 0/5 star rating.Version: 1.4.1

IrritatingThis is literally the most irritating reading app ever . You don’t actually get to enjoy it because it releases only one chapter per 24 hours and it’s a waste of time . You end up reading 10 chapters of different books per day . That’s so childish it’s annoying and if you want to read more you have to top up . The least amount that makes sense is £10 and yet you don’t get to keep the pages you have unlocked or even the whole book Nope this is an absolute disappointment and I don’t recommend it . The stories are very interesting but it drags so much it defeats the purpose and enjoyment of the whole experience. Who ever thought this up must be quite young . I will soon be deleting the app. I’ll just buy the books instead . Sorry but this method is rubbish . Releasing one chapter every few hours that is absolute rubbish The star is just to acknowledge that the books are good But I’m better off buying them . Which I have.Version: 1.4.0

Coins are a ripoffTrying to read a Korean novel legally to support the author, but with the way the coin system works Yonder wants me to pay $50+ to finish reading 150+ chapters for a completed novel. Even hardbound books by bestselling authors do not cost this much. Meanwhile the daily pass system is cumbersome, and you need coins to read chapters and earn more promo coins within the promo period. This app makes it more likely that I will stop reading Korean novels altogether..Version: 1.10.0

Only 3 starsI have given 3 stars as if you want to continue reading a story after passes run out it costs 27 coins each chapter and you can’t earn coins by logging in daily you have to buy them which is not great so now can’t finish the story I was reading as not paying for coins.Version: 1.4.1

Worst way to read a novelIf you have infinite money have no fear because you can just pay to read what the rest of us have to pay chapter by chapter to continue. You get one free chapter a day unless you’re willing to pay money for it. Extremely frustrating when you are enjoying what you’re reading. I don’t want micro transactions in my reading please, it’s already in too many of my games.Version: 1.5.0

Review 1 (before getting a full feel of the app)Already I am struggling with a couple itty bitty aspects of the app. Love the dark background it already comes in though. Can we have an update where you can click on a book to show full description but you can swipe left or right to go the the next book? And an update where you can swipe to exit from where you’re at to go back to the main screen instead of using the back arrow. Also PETITION FOR US TO BE ABLE TO CHANGE OUR USERNAMES PLEASE! And to follow & message each other. And to find readers with similar taste/book reviews as you. Maybe that’s asking for a lot but it’s food for thought. However, I shall give you my second review at a later date when I’ve figured out all the kinks of the app. Love y’all! xx - KSKS.Version: 1.0.1

Exchange rate for coins is poorIt was recently that £10 got me $12 worth of coins but now it’s £12 for $12 worth even though a pound is worth 1.2 dollars today. That feels like an unfair way to make money off your customers. I would have liked to read extra chapters but now don’t want to feel ripped off..Version: 1.4.1

Almost but not quiteCompared to other reading apps; I love this app for the genre of books it has. I found a book I loved on the first click compared to the endless searching and previewing on other apps. BUT what this app lacks that other apps HAVE is a real book feel and dictionary. There is no page count or "page flip" transition from one page to another, You can't hold down a word to look the definition up 'in app,'(iPhone) or even to copy/paste it to google at the least. I like the comment feature that's one thing other apps dont have but this app would be much better if it had that natural book feeling and a way to look up words..Version: 1.2.0

Update?I’m new but not really to yonder and I love it I can read the books and everything but then when I have to pay for the coins I do and when I do pay for it and run out I look forward to the daily spins, but when I went to spin, the daily spin wheel wasn’t there and I’m confused because that’s the only way I got coins besides the competitions now I’m stuck at 8 coins and it’s 29 to unlock the story and I can’t pay for extra coins.Version: 1.10.0

Communication would have been nice.It works have been nice to know beforehand that you were going to just up and remove daily unlocks for so many stories. If you’re just going to do that to your readers, fix your crazy high prices. You’re just showing that all you care for is money. It’s gross. Especially when you fight and take down and other places that have the same stories as you do..Version: 1.10.0

App is great, but coins not so muchI love this app, I never read that much until now because of this app but now it’s asking for coins and I am 17 still in school, I can’t afford things like this and I understand they need to have some source of income but at least put videos you can watch or do some activities where it can get you coins..Version: 1.1.0

Somehow with even more predatory micro transactions than an EA game.Normally I’d be fine paying for a book—hell, a lot of the ones on here are actually pretty decent and I’d happily buy them, but when you get a book on kindle or audible you’re normally paying for the whole thing at once. For some reason, this app has a per chapter system, and it’s utterly ridiculous. I would give one star, but to be fair the interface is really nice. 2.5/3.Version: 1.1.0

This app sucksOk so for a page it’s 0.99 usd but the thing is most books are more than 120 pages so you your going to have to pay 120 dollars for a book you don’t even get to hold it’s a massive scam.Version: 1.9.0

Not even a heads upA couple a stories I was in the middle of reading suddenly, and without warning, stopped doing Daily Unlock. I'm not in a position to spend frivolously, so even considering buying coins to read hundreds of chapters between a few stories just isn't even an option. Never mind that I'd need to spend literal hundreds of dollars to be able to finish the two stories I'm trying to read. Promo coins gained by subscribing to stories or reading chapters from stories expire too quickly. And the odd number of coins to unlock each chapter just... doesn't make sense to me. If I earn 200 coins during an event, unlocking chapters is 29 coins. That leaves me only able to unlock 6 chapters with 26 leftover coins I can't use that will eventually just disappear. Had there been a notice of some kind that Daily Unlock would not be available for certain stories starting on whatever date, it would've felt less like a rug was pulled out from under me. I was told of a daily wheel that you can spin to get coins, but as of writing this it is not a feature available to me. Overall, I'm very frustrated and disappointed..Version: 1.10.0

I’m a bit confusedSo I was reading a novel called “I Obtained a Mythic Item” under Reaper Scans and the most recent chapter was released a while ago. RS said that they would be dropping novels because YONDER is doing them but it’s been a while and I still can’t find IOMI in YONDER, so I was wondering if YONDER was continuing to pick up novel series from the WEBTOONs or if they’re just dropping translations of them entirely. This is also the case with some other novels. The app seems good and has a large selection of novels of all types to read but there are still a lot of things I was anticipating of this app that were not delivered upon (as of writing this). It would be a personal 5 star if all of the novels that got axed on other TLs would actually be on here, but they’re simply not..Version: 1.1.1

DisappointedI’m sure there are some really good stories but there are so many catches to what you can read for free and what you can’t that it’s really not worth it. Deleted app half way through a story as it wasn’t worth paying for and you can’t use daily pass on the most recent 5 chapters. Other reading apps that have better ways of getting access to stories.Version: 1.3.0

Don’t botherOpt for Galatea instead…..Version: 1.10.0

Prices are ridiculousI’m currently enjoying a few K-novels on yonder that have webtoons out right now. The stories are excellent so far so I can’t complain much about story quality. However with that being said the cost of chapters is ridiculous. It takes 29 coins to read one chapter. Most series range from 200+ chapters. The promotion periods usually only award only 500 coins which is only about 14 chapters of a book. If you’re paying for coins (which I have done) they run out quickly and you still haven’t finished the book. For example it’s $10 for 1000 coins. Which sounds great if the chapters were to only costs 10 coins, but since it costs 29 coins (weird number choice btw) you can only read 34 chapters out of an approx. 200 chapter book. So lets so I get the first 5 chapters free, if I pay $10 for 34 chapters it would cost around $50 for a 200 chapter book. And all of this is just assuming that its a 200 chapter book. Most K-novels easily go over that since in actual publishing its multiple books of a series (like Harry Potter). While 200 chapters seems like a lot, they are typically short reads. A person who has trouble reading could probably finish a chapter in under 5 minutes. Paying 29 coins for a quick read is absurd and charging that much to purchase coins that barely pay for chapters is a scam. Either fix the cost of chapters and coins, or provide wayyyyyyy more promotional coins..Version: 1.3.0

The covers…I hate how the cover (for the translated novels) change from the original ones to more ‘western’ ones. I really adore the original ones, they fit the characters more and I (maybe it’s just me) but I always like the ‘anime’ art cover more? This one of the reasons I read Korean/Chinese/Japanese web novel more… I’ve also seen that I’m not the only one complaining about the cover changes, it’s really disheartening for the cover to change. I can’t even recognise the characters or the story anymore in the covers. I really hope Yonder stop changing titles of loved (translated) stories just so they can fit the taste of the ‘western’ market..Version: 1.0.1

High monetization cost and scam marketing practiceYou’re getting less content and less value than a brand new book. There’s no experience here when they charge 3-4x the value of a book. Ridiculous price point. Misleading/click-bait marketing ad on the website that implied if you download the app you would receive the first 100 chapters for free but it was just the first 5..Version: 1.10.0

This feels a bit shady. So this might not be a problem on Yonder’s end, but as someone living in Australia, I can guarantee that 0.99 USD does not convert to 1.99 AUD. The price has been chalked up to an unholy level. I got tired of waiting for chapters and decided to just buy 100 coins before seeing that it would cost me 2 dollars. 2 dollars and I can’t event afford more than 3 chapters. Tf? Now, I did a previous negative review about the ridiculous pricing. But after using the app, it’s not too bad. I can handle a chapter a day. But seeing a single USD more than double in price during conversion to AUD has got me a bit bamboozled I must say..Version: 1.8.0

Issue with Yonder coinsYonder coins don’t seem to be used in the order of which expires first. So even though I used up all the coins before the expiry date, I still get coins deducted from my balance from my remaining coins that haven’t expired yet ☹️.Version: 1.3.0

Originals or translated?I can't tell whether they are translated or original novels? Did i miss that or is it not shown? Either way, please add something to distinguish the two, or make it more obvious if it's already there. Thanks.Version: 1.2.0

AwfulWhat an awful app, books are way more expensive than they should be, would much rather support the authors directly than pay for some greedy third party through dodgy micro transactions like this. Just a bad way to read books.Version: 1.8.0

Same thingIts the same as wattpad, nothing special, instead of making a new app, just fix the old one.💀.Version: 1.0.1

App is fine - but need to unlock more than 1 chapter a day.The app works fine. No tech issues. But the frustrating part is that you only unlock one chapter per day. That’s understandable if the authors are writing as it releases, but when the book is complete or there are 50 chapters released it’s frustrating to wait a day for a new chapter. It would be better if chapters unlocked every couple of hours, or if you could earn coins via reading time or some other way (like most other apps). I’ll be returning to using my Kindle and getting free books from author giveaways..Version: 1.6.1

Fun stories but SO overpricedI really enjoy reading some of my favorite webtoons on here, but the chapters are not very long and only one chapter a day for free for every single book is pretty annoying; it’s like they took the immediate daily pass feature from webtoon that is webtoon’s absolute worst feature and applied it to everything so they can make more money. I have spent money on coins and I realized the numbers are just unreasonable; if you bought all the chapters you would be spending over $40-50 to read one novel, which is pretty insanely expensive for a light read; much cheaper to just buy whole novels on other platforms. I will probably have to delete it after finishing my current reads (trying to pace myself with only the free chapters) unless some big changes are made in pricing because I just can’t afford it and it’s frustrating to only get a tiny chunk of the story at once..Version: 1.4.0

Bound to the Shadow PrinceSo surprise surprise, but I can’t have daily free pass for the last 5 chapters of the book I’m reading unless I pay for coins to unlock. I wonder if this is intentional? I wish I knew this so I would have not wasted 2 months on this story. I would’ve rather waited for the ebook. And I would not recommend this app to anyone..Version: 1.10.0

Pricing problemsI don’t think having to pay $50 or more to finish a book is a good value. I’m sad because I really liked the book I was reading, but that’s more expensive than a hardback novel. The book I was reading had 189 chapters at between 29-34 coins each. I’m on chapter 55 (already bought and used 1000 coins), if I continue I’ll have to pay about 4500 more coins, at $10 per 1k coins. That’s crazy….Version: 1.3.0

Please do not use this productTLDR: a predatory pricing scheme to make pyramid schemes blush, do not use. I decided to try this app because a web novel I am a fan of was brought into the platform. After a lot of complaints in the fandom I figured I should try it. I’ll note I also am a Webtoon user and this is the same parent company. Bluntly: this is more predatory than Webtoon and that’s saying something. All in app purchases are in multiples of 100, but chapter unlocks are 29 coins. This means that unless you spend ungodly amounts of money, you’re always going to have leftover coins. Immediately you’ve induced sunk cost fallacy on any user, encouraging them to buy more. A friend ran the calculations and some series are overall more expensive than it would be to get a single paperback copy. Or even hardback. This app is not worth the amount of time it takes to download it. I would love to say “use this and support the author of the series I love” but as is I cannot say that in good faith..Version: 1.0.1

Opinion about Yonder v.s WattpadI’ve had Wattpad downloaded for years and I’ve always adored the variety of books that were available. But I’ve recently come to discover Yonder. Although I like that Yonder retains books that seem more edited and professionally written, there aren’t as many options available to choose from unless you’d like to spend money or wait forever to eventually get through the books. On top of that, you get one or two free chapters per day with a book of your choice. The problem? The chapters are only available for three days. It seems super money-hungry and manipulative for someone to purchase a chapter just to be unable to go back and read it at their leisure..Version: 1.2.0

Great stories but app leaves you hangingI was happy to try this app to read books. The book I read was good quality however I was disappointed that the last several chapters can only be accessed by purchasing coins. I am not from the US so purchases will come with additional charges on my credit card. I will not purchase points. There has to be other ways For you to make money rather than charging users. I can’t read books not knowing how they end!.Version: 1.4.1

I don’t like that I can’t unlock multiple chapters at the same timeI would like to chose exactly how many chapters to unlock at once. I sometimes try to buy multiple chapters of a series but I usually have to click through the chapters individually to do it. They did change it recently so that you can buy multiple chapters in one click but it’s only if you buy 50 chapters at once but I usually buy a little less than that. Also the amount of coins needed to unlock chapters is weird. It’s 29 coins per chapter but all the coin packs come is bundles that are divisible by 5 or 10. So no matter which pack you buy, you always seem to fall short and don’t get to buy all the chapters you want. If those were fixed I’d like it better.Version: 1.4.0

It’s alrightI enjoy a lot of the stories and how some of them are on WEBTOON. Yonder also has a decent variety of stories that are of better quality than WattPad. My main issues are: *Coin purchases are weird. To unlock a chapter ahead of time is 29 coins but when you buy coins it’s not in increments of 29 so you end up with an odd amount of coins and it becomes a cycle. *There seems to be a lot more stories that are 18+ than not. Authors really need to work on some variety and not use whole chapters for that..Version: 1.10.0

Far too little offered for the priceRipoff. The chapters are far too short for the price they’re being sold at and all the product I browsed is wattpad level of amateur prose. Giving it some stars for at least releasing enough beginning chapters for free to let the readers know what the quality of the writing for the entire product is..Version: 1.8.0

Subscription pleaseI checked the app quickly, on every story i saw there was about 10 or so free chapters. You have the option to wait about a day to unlock a new one or to buy coins to unlock it. If i understood properly from my research, you need about 20 to 65 coins to unlock a chapter depending on the story. And from a previous comment, apparently coins expires. And a 100 coins is a dollar. It’s expensive. Not saying it’s not worth it, but depending on how much you read, you need a good ratio of coins and reading time, else you could potentially lose money. Ok, so, getting to my point now, i think it’s a pain to think about it. The coins, the money, the time, i think something more straightforward like a subscription would appeal to a lot of people that would like to read in peace. I must say though, that although frustrating, i do like the free pass system cause i was once a 12 years old with no money to spend, so yeah..Version: 1.8.0

Unable to finish bookApp will not process my payment for some reason so I cannot finish the book I am halfway through. Either way I would rather just buy a whole book, not chapter by chapter. Very frustrated..Version: 1.10.0

EhhI have multiple reading apps on my phone and I think this one is probably the worst. New users get a daily login bonus that literally only last for I think two weeks. Then after the two weeks you don’t get anymore bonuses. Granted there are some promos that offer free coins if you read so many chapters but my problem is, I’m not going to read a book I have no interest in reading just for coins. The prices for coins are outrageous and I refuse to buy coins just to be able to read a few chapters compared to (if the book is actually published) buying a physical copy. Not everyone is made of money who can just blow it on buying coins..Version: 1.10.0

Can't sign up with email !?Only allows to sign up with google, apple or facebook. How come there's no option to sign up with email ?.Version: 1.1.1

Fake reviews and Webtoon ownedIf anyone knows the nightmare of a scam that webtoon is, this is another extension piggybacking off of the Wattpad platform. All of these reviews are fake and sound like a commercial trying to pitch a product. Guess I now know why Wattpad has gone to absolute 🤬over the years if webtoon is involved. Quizilla 2.0 happening right before our eyes - an imminent crash and burn is about to happen to this whole platform if they keep getting greedy and going the way they’re going. How companies think changing a good thing so much is wise is beyond me. I know plenty of platforms that are beloved because they stay true to their beginnings and don’t jerk their customers around every two months. Considering Wattpad’s lovely new ad bar addition that blinds everyone every time they try to read a book, I’d bet this is all tied together to being in more revenue..Version: 1.0.1

Good appSo I found the app on a Facebook ad and begin reading the book The True Luna. About a week into downloading the app I began to notice that I was getting a notification that I had a free pass to continue reading the next chapter BUT I couldn’t ever get the free pass. So fast forward a week later I opened the app again and went to read a chapter and bam I was logged out of my app (I never logged myself out) . So I decided maybe I should just delete the app and then redownload it so I did. When I redownloaded it I couldn’t find the book I had began to read. Be careful when you download it because thinking about it once I downloaded this app my phone started acting weird I’m not saying it’s the app itself but just a thought. You’re gonna have to pay to read some chapters because apparently the free passes are only available for certain books. If I can’t find the book again I’m going to delete this app for good..Version: 1.5.0

PaywallsI downloaded Yonder to read the webnovel version of webtoons I’ve been reading. I started hitting paywalls in the middle of a series, and am unable to finish at all with daily passes and am unwilling to pay hundreds of dollars in order to finish. And the paywalls kick in at really strange episode numbers: in “My In-Laws are Obsessed With Me,” it hit at episode 46, “Marry my Husband” hits at 51, and “I’m the Queen in this Life” hits at episode 246. The first two series mentioned are finished, whereas the third is ongoing with daily release. I could understand if they wanted the paywall to kick in 100 episodes before the current one, but it’s really random to end where it is. “Remarried Empress” has 337 chapters and I didn’t hit a paywall at all. There should be better regulation or signage about if there’s a paywall and when it occurs, and then also a time period where it will become free for daily pass users..Version: 1.10.0

MehHad 29 coins. Got 50 for free for reading a chapter. At 79 now. Used 30 for a chapter. Should be at 49 but when I checked, says 20 coins available. Not the first time that had happened either. Happens just about every time they give out free coins. Use a few and they magically make extra disappear. They did better with webtoons. Only a few decent reads here, few more really good ones. For the most part, seems the stories are basic werewolf/vampire stuff. Very meh. Not as much variety as webtoons. Stick to there..Version: 1.4.1

Terrible paywallThis is the first and most likely last time I’ll ever write a review. I’ve never written one in the AppStore because I’ve never been this outraged by a company before in my life. You’re telling me to unlock 1 chapter it costs 29 coins which you can buy 1000 for 10$. So you can only unlock around 30 chapters with that and usually that would be pretty reasonable, except for the part that most Korean web novels that are on this site are a 2 minute per chapter read. Before Yonder was introduced into the game everything was fine, fan translations were doing well, authors books were being published overseas, and they still made money. There’s other companies like WuxiaWorld that have much better translations and paywalls. This company was just solely created to generate revenue without actually caring about their readers nor authors. Terrible app, terrible paywall, atleast try to listen to your reviews..Version: 1.10.0

CANNOT EVEN VIEW THE T’s & C’sBefore I accept the Terms and Conditions I like to read them. With this app they are unreadable. I have low vision but can cope so long as I can stretch the page. I can’t. Sadly, before I’ve even experienced reading any books I’m having to delete the app and relegate it as ‘discriminatory’. It had such promise too…..Version: 1.2.0

Over the money grabI have used this app since they started and loved that a lot of the Weston’s I read I can get way more detail and story line on. I specifically pick stories that are free daily pass since I am will to spend $5 here and there if I get bought up in a chapter but not $100+ to read a book. But they have slowly turned off the free daily unlock pass on all of the 6 stories I had been reading but 1, and I’m sure it’s only a matter of time on that one as well. It really makes me angry that I put all that time into reading the stories and will never be able to finish them because they changed it all with no notice, I just go on one day and have to spend money. Steer clear from the app, it will get you hooked on a free story and then pull the rug out from under you and tell you that you only have to spend $50 to finish your free stories since you read the first half for free..Version: 1.10.0
