HJ Beginner smoothed my learning process of Japanese so well and I am excited to continue using HJ Intermediate. Overall both of these apps are extremely well written and the end of chapter tests are super useful as well. Along with notes and a good progression system, I love this application and am excited to use it to increase my ability to speak, read and write Japanese.(note this progression system feels great and it is not PTW like EA’s games). I took Japanese in high school, and this app / textbook explains concepts more thoroughly and clearly than any of my teachers did. The interactive quizzes and sound clips are great features as well. My only complaint is that while this app is available on multiple platforms (and at a price that makes buying it more than once palatable), there's no way to log in and access the same user content from different devices. Relatedly, it would be nice if a user could make an in-app purchase to access the full version from the free version, rather than starting over. None of this is a huge deal, since you can unlock chapters and skip around manually, but this is the only real technological flaw in what is otherwise a very well-programmed product. The example dialogs are casual and conversational and more relevant to the average Japanese learner I'd say than other books I've used. There a several reasons that this app beats books: 1) The ability to quickly look up words that you may have forgotten. 2) The ability to listen to words and dialog. 3) The ability to check your understanding and retention of knowledge with tests and graded exercises. 4) The excellent planning and division of the language into lessons that focus on skills and knowledge in a thoughtful order. 5) The author's ability to cut down complex structures in a way that has you learning the most important and basic rules first, then adding complexity gradually. If there's one shortfall, it's that there's just not enough kanji covered. But maybe this will be done in Human Japanese Advanced - here's hoping :).IphonehighfivingfanboyVersion: 1.1.1

✓ Best AppDefinitely the best app I can find, and am loving it so far(was recommended by a friend) I've been using it for a while now, along with other apps and sites to help me learn. It's great for vocabulary and grammar for sure, and context is explained well which helps you remember the words. The voices speaking the sentences for you is better than anywhere else for sure, not like the many robot voices on other apps. It's a great help for listening and pronunciation. My only wish is that it used more Kanji. I feel like it is too slow to introduce kanji. If the focus is on reading and speaking more than writing Kanji, instead of introducing Kanji separately, how come it doesn't just use Kanji and furigana for every vocab word? The faster and more often to see a word in it's Kanji form the quicker it will be to learn it ! Especially with furigana and/or the voice speaking the sentence for you, in my opinion, there should be no reason Kanji is not being integrated at a faster rate. I know a ton of vocabulary, but I'm working on grammar and would like to also work on Kanji. Flashcards are difficult because they don't put the words into context. I feel like it would be a great help to throw more kanji into the mix, so I could get used to seeing these Kanji. And then I could practice reading the Kanji elsewhere while I learn. This app is indispensable for me while I'm learning, but I can't find anywhere that is even half as good as this app that will also introduce kanji to me(like with the example sentences and such) I'm struggling to learn Kanji because all I can find is flashcard apps and games. So of course, when I finished that I got the intermediate app. The intermediate version has more grammar concepts, but the explanations are easy to understand. I also enjoyed the 5-kanji a lesson approach because it doesn’t overload you with memorization, but still gives you a great foundation for basic kanji. My only complaint is that there isn’t a Human Japanese upper intermediate/ advanced! I also purchased Satori reader, and it has greatly exposed me to more Japanese practice and vocabulary. Human Japanese actually shows how the language works. I’ve used Genki, Japanese for Busy People, and Minna no Nihongo at various schools. After buying Human Japanese Intermediate for a quick review, I wished I had begun here. A 'copy to notes' button that automatically copies an example word or sentence to the notes would have been brilliant for reviewing weak areas, shame there isn't one.
