Human Japanese for Positive User Reviews

As good; if not better than the university books I bought.Extremely thorough, well documented and easy to follow..Version: 3.1.1

Yes, recommended.I particularly like the book mark. It’s a thoughtful touch. Useful when you’re getting into the weeds of the chapters. 3 years it took me to summon the patience to tackle the hiragana. Overjoyed that I persisted. Once started it took about 3 months in the end. One character per day and I got it. Now I’m about 4/5 of the way through the chapters and satisfied with my progress. I’m pretty sure I can do this. I’m on my way!.Version: 3.2.1

The Gold StandardIn my opinion, Human Japanese remains unparalleled and my go-to choice in my recommendations to people starting out with the language. All those years ago when I first used the Intro+Intermediate apps, it was my foundation, my staple with my budding Japanese journey. This beats any novice textbook in my opinion. All these years later I found myself returning to Human Japanese to refresh myself with Japanese. From the bottom of my heart, I thank the development team for creating a truly special piece of work, at a fraction of a cost it would take textbooks to attempt to even come close to this. If you're on the fence, just do it, you wont regret it. Always and forever, ありがとうございます。.Version: 3.2.1

Fantastic introduction to JapaneseWhat can I say? A neat piece of software that provides a thorough introduction to the Japanese language and writing system. The "book" is well written with good explanations of the subjects covered, with cultural anecdotes thrown in for good measure. It's very well presented with a simple, neat layout. You can touch any of the Japanese phrases to hear them spoken. You will learn how to read and write both hiragana and katakana. Kanji is touched on briefly but is beyond the scope of this work as it is for beginners. I think this text also has the best explanations of particles that I have seen yet, with good examples of their usage. It's highly recommended..Version: 0

Great Japanese AppThis is probably as close to being in a class as you're going to get. While you could argue that this app leans more to the learning "about" Japanese end of the scale, there are plenty of ways to learn Japanese vocabulary elsewhere. This app helps you learn how to USE that vocabulary..Version: 3.1.1

In DepthStart learning Japanese with something like Mondly/Dual Lingo for absolute basics. Once those don’t get you very far, hop onto this and learn the actual concepts in greater detail..Version: 3.2.1

FantasticThis app is a must have for beginners. Excellent user interface mixed in with insightful lessons and a surgical approach to expanding your knowledge of Japanese.Version: 3.1.1

Great way of learning JapaneseThe lessons are very well written, the quizzes are a good way of revising what you learn and the content is enjoyable and fun. If you're looking for an app to learn Japanese, look no further!.Version: 3.1.1

I can’t believe how much I’ve learned! This is the 6th app I tried in my search for a Japanese learning experience, and definitely the last (obviously I’m continuing with the next app in the series). Excellent progression of lessons, nothing too hard for my 50+ brain to understand. Sadly it took me over a year to really master, as I’m a perfectionist and won’t move on til I’m confident I’m up to speed on the current lesson, even including a review of previous lessons if they were hard. My only slight problem was the American slant on the ‘English’ used! Makes us real English have to think a bit harder 🧐. It would occasionally be nice to be able to exchange messages with a real person to get a deeper understanding of the use of some words and phrases. Overall though, the best and easiest app of it’s kind. Thanks to everyone involved for easing me into this fascinating language and culture!.Version: 3.2.1

Amazing self-taught experience!I love learning stuff at my own pace and so far this is the only app I needed to cruise my way through the beginnings of the Japanese language. I love the healthy mix of grammar, vocab and cultural info. I'll soon be starting the intermediate version!.Version: 3.1.1

ExcellentI feel I am making great progress in a short amount of time, because the format is so enjoyable. There are some technical issues like occasional crashes, but the content more than makes up for it. It's a high price for an app, but it is far cheaper than any other effective language-learning approach. Some improvements I would like to see are an expansion to include more conversational, in-depth audio, and a quick reference to all the characters and words, rather than having to hunt them down among the chapters..Version: 0

Great refresherI studied Japanese many years ago in school, this is a great refresher!.Version: 3.1.1

WowEverything and more.Version: 2.1.0

Excellent App for beginners JapaneseThank you.Version: 3.1.1

Great learning companionI had prior (minor) knowledge of Japanese, kana and about 50 kanji, yet this app was great from start to finish. The culture bites are great and the way the app works is brilliant, showing stroke order and breaking down every single example sentence, but only if you want it to :) Id recommend the bundle! これはすごいです!.Version: 3.1.1

Brilliant app - highly recommendI absolutely loved this app - I think it is brilliant. Thank you so much. "Brown pants are awesome!" : ).Version: 3.1.1

Beautifully AccessibleI have several apps for learning Japanese, and I like all of them for different reasons and purposes; however, Human Japanese is the most effective of any I've tried. It guides me through the language, giving me fascinating historical, grammatical, and useful reasons for the way the language works. It's clean and elegant. I love the quizzes. It has all the helps you'd want (audio from native speakers, visual and auditory comparisons, animations for stroke order, bookmarks and note-booking, etc.). I love Human Japanese. It makes learning Japanese fun and fascinating!.Version: 3.1.1

Spectacular! What makes this the best learning tool is not the language instruction. There are many tools available to help teach you the Japanese language, but only Human Japanese adds the cultural background that helps you put the language in context. This is hands-down the best language learning app I own (and I own many), and asked from living in Japan is likely the best way for a gaijin such as myself to learn..Version: 3.1.1

GreatThis app and the author’s more recent app Satori Reader have some of the best explanations of grammar I’ve seen online. If there were to be any improvements it would be great to be able to toggle all of the romaji into kana..Version: 3.2.1

AwesomeVery awesome not just for learning but also understanding ! Didn't take long at all to learn the basics.Version: 3.1.1

Learning to understandCurrently in Japan for a holiday and plan on coming back next autumn being able to speak Japanese by that time. This app is really helping. It's all very well learning words and phrases but actually learning the meaning of how to say something with the history or that reason in your subconscious from the beginning is truly amazing. Haven't even learned any phrases yet but I already feel super confident once I reach that stage..Version: 3.1.1

Fantastic Learning ToolI am really enjoying this app, I like the way it only unlocks as you progress and tests you. The explanations are interesting and easy to understand. I'm looking forward to getting to intermediate. Well worth the cost:-).Version: 3.0

So far so goodThis app is really great for keeping things in context and using great examples. These things were missing in other parts of my self study..Version: 3.2.1

Love it ! :)I love this app so far. I finished the lite version of this and immediately bought this one. I have recently decided to learn Japanese and I was struggling to find a starting point because I'm unable to take classes at the moment. This app gave me the structure I was looking for. I considered buying books and something like Rosetta Stone but I was hesitant because of bad reviews and the prices. When I came across this app I couldn't put it down. The way this app teaches makes it feel a lot less like work and it breaks it down in a way that anyone can understand. This app is designed perfectly for beginners and I highly recommend it as a starting point. It's easy to understand and relaxing. You never feel like there is a bunch of new things thrown at you at once. Instead everything is done step by step..Version: 3.1.1

RecommendedA very good, and gentle, introduction to the Japanese language..Version: 3.1.1

Good appVery good app..Version: 3.1.1

Finally some Japanese grammar! It’s a good app and it’s one of the few that attempts explaining grammar rather than throwing at you phrases to memorise. I wish it treated grammar in a more technical manner, and with less ‘humanity’..Version: 3.2.1

Best Japanese language appThis is definitely the best Japanese language app I have used so far. I took 1 year of Japanese in college have tried multiple apps and books to continue learning but have struggled to find much use out of any of them. I found this app extremely informative and filling in a lot of the gaps in my understanding. It is very detailed in it’s breakdown of the Japanese language, which really helps to adjust your thinking when trying to form and understand Japanese..Version: 3.2.1

BrilliantBest language-learning app I've ever used. Well worth the money! ありがとうございます!.Version: 3.1.1

ExcellentJ'ai utilisé dans le passé toutes sortes de livres et programmes pour m'aider à apprendre le japonais mais nul égale ce programme. Sa méthode pour introduire le monde à la langue japonaise est génial. La manière de montrer graduellement la matière ne décourage pas l'étudiant..Version: 3.1.1

Great AppI haven't been studying long but I've bought a couple books and even tried Rosetta Stone and this is the most interesting and organized program. I'm not scared to jump into learning Japanese. Already I know this is a great investment. Yatta!!!.Version: 2.1.1

Very well doneThourogh and approachable. The app has helped me with my Japanese..Version: 3.2.1

Just, wow! This has been such a great app- and I've only used the trial version up until now. Everything is set out logically and easily followed. I've never made such headway with Japanese before..Version: 3.1.1

Personable and FunThis app is hands down the best language learning experience I've ever had. Even learning French in French immersion wasn't as organized, interesting and useful. The app also feels like you have your own personal instructor who tells you funny jokes. The fact that the creator took the time to make such a great app is amazing to me. It's not one of those language apps that teach each language the same way, it's specifically designed for the language and I wish there was an app like this designed for each language I want to learn by this developer. I'm onto the intermediate app already! Please make an advanced one!.Version: 3.1.1

かんたんÇa marche assez bien, mais il faut savoir que le japonais est une langue vachement difficile et t'auras besoin de beaucoup de temps et d'effort. Mais fais-le! On va réussir, puis après on parlera couramment et on va aller au Japon et on mangera du sushi et on embrassera tous les nanas..Version: 3.1.1

The best Japanese learning app out there.Packed full of interesting history and geographical information, etymologies, practice quizzes, activities, and even an experience system for you RPG fans, this is by far the best Japanese learning app available. Definitely worth the price..Version: 3.1.1

AmazingIt is a really great app for learning Japanese, it teaches you the kana, the correct pronunciation of the words, the use of the words, and also more direct translations so you don't look stupid when you actually have the chance to speak with a native speaker. It's also fun on top of everything else. It's the super explanatory part missing in all the other Japanese apps that actually makes Japanese make sense. The only thing this app is missing is the super repetition that you can easily get in any other Japanese app out there, so not a hard fix at all. Ten out of ten, would recommend..Version: 3.2.1

10/10So bloody engaging, and I usually dread learning something new, absolutely on point!!!.Version: 3.1.1

Great for the beginner.Excellently laid out and designed app that provides everything a beginner needs to begin learning Japanese. I quickly upgraded to the full version at the conclusion of the first five chapters in the lite version. If I could suggest two things - The inclusion of a search feature would be very useful (perhaps with some Ingredients integration?) An possibly the rearrangement of some sections further towards the beginning - for example, moving the 'Counting Objects' chapter after the Numbers chapter, as counting objects are obviously a useful concept that could be tackled with not too much difficulty after learning the numbering system. Other than that, a good app for the aspiring beginner..Version: 3.1

Excellent contentWith language apps, I believe competing on features isn't the most important thing - it's the style of the teaching, the quality of the explanations and the order of new concepts that matters. The HJ writer is very articulate and strikes an excellent balance between casual phrases and grammatical explanations accompanied by ideas on how to link the two. I find a lot of other language learning material can lean too far in either direction. Reasons for certain language constructs are explained, but there is always an everyday context given alongside. In addition, the features that HJ has are very nice and complement the raw content, rather than overshadow it (unlike the few "game" based language apps I've tried). The summary quizzes are succinct, and the ability to tap on almost any piece of text and hear it spoken aloud is very convenient. Almost every sentence allows you to drill down by word and view a short dictionary definition - very useful for when you recognise a word from an earlier lesson but can't quite recall the meaning (and saves either pulling up a third party dictionary or trawling back to find the previous lesson). This a really great learning resource and the pacing is just right. Highly recommended..Version: 3.1.1

Best Japanese 101 course on the iPhone.By far the best learn japanese app on the iPhone, it's well written, easy to understand and easy to use. After trying others this is the only one that seemed to be written at a good learning pace. My only suggestion would to build in a better flash card system to help learn the huge amouts of words you have to learn, it does not concerntrate on words you are having trouble learning..Version: 0

Wow…Only been using for a few hours but out of all the physical textbooks and apps I’ve downloaded… I’ve learned more in the few hours than I have all previous content combined… sure you have to pay for it… but it is INSANELY worth it, DuoLingo is not an alternative if you want to really learn… this is it. This is what you need!.Version: 3.2.1

BrilliantIn literally three days of using this app I feel confident that I can and will learn Japanese. Maybe the author had it easy, maybe Japanese is a particularly intuitive language to learn, but the app is incredibly well written and introduces the language perfectly, I don't think he could've been much more reassuring. I started practicing hiragana today and it seems to be sinking in quite well. I'm trying to think of a criticism of the app, but as I don't know any Japanese other than what is taught, it's impossible to pick up on any flaws. I have a half Japanese friend whose mother will be having many tedious conversations with me at some point, I imagine!.Version: 2.1.1

Very good, and motivatingThe other reviews are a few years old, but it’s still a very good resource. It’s like having a textbook on your phone instead of lugging around a massive pile of paper, and thanks to being digital it also has a lot of voice acting. Almost every Japanese word can be tapped on to play a native speaker’s recording, the only ones which can’t are the ones used in the middle of an English paragraph about grammar using an example, however there is usually a clickable version of that sentence nearby. For vocab lessons I suggest taking the words and putting them into an SRS app to make sure you keep revising them. Human Japanese does have native flashcards but they’re multiple choice and not srs, so they aren’t perfect, however it’s not a flashcard app so I don’t think this is something to lower it’s rating for..Version: 3.2.1

Excellent.I messed around with a few apps before this one, and had a little bit of working vocab, but this has actually taught me how to read and write Japanese, as well as some interesting cultural notes. Whether you're serious about learning or just fancy it casually, it's ace. ✌🏼️.Version: 3.1.1

Amazing and engaging appI'm not one to normally write reviews, usually just reading what others have to say - but this app has constantly surprised me with both the information it contains and the quality of it. Such as it is, I have recommended this app to many friends and even my japanese language classmates. My teacher herself highly approved of it, in both its use of grammar and the explanation of. The inclusion of voice recordings for ALL of the words, phrases and even the hiragana and katakana is useful beyond words. Many times I've found myself looking at a complex hiragana formation thinking "how the heck to I pronounce that?" So believe me, brilliant inclusion and it's what sets this app apart from all the others available. As for the topics covered, they are the usual beginner level affair. But what you need to remember, if you are considering buying this, is that the basis of all languages is in the basics. Get this right here and your own self studies will improve dramatically. My only question to the author of this is.. When's part two coming out!?.Version: 2.1.1

いいですよ❗️A comprehensive package. I completed the lite and thought I'd give the full version a go. I've almost completed the beginner app and I'm looking forward to moving onto the intermediate. I attended a part time Japanese class at a university roughly 10 years ago and although I can't really compare an app to an actual classroom setting, it does a good job of making you feel like you have an actual teacher. The explanations are clear and easy to wrap your head around. You will need to dedicate some time to learn hiragana and katakana if you wish to make the most of the app. The app itself teaches you what you need but the character practice itself wasn't for my tastes. Reading and listening is covered. Speaking and writing you'll need to find a friend or something. As for the quality of the actual programming prowess, not had a single crash or issue. The voices are clear. No adds or loading times. Accessible to quickly fly back to previous lessons to do some quick reviews too. Don't regret shelling out the cash for the 2 app package. 😊.Version: 3.1.1

Very useful and well writtenGreat way to start learning Japanese.Version: 3.1.1

Brilliant to pick up the thread after some time away from the languageComing back to learning the language after ca. 10 years - brilliantly done to ensure you get fully immersed early on, writing, reading, listening. It's step-by-step, full on, fun, informative, a well-balanced mix of all the right ingredients. And really well put together. Just the first sign in the n-series plays up every once in a while. Looks good again when you click it to see how it's written..Version: 3.1.1

IncredibleThis is the most accessible introduction I’ve been able to find to Japanese. The text is engaging, enjoyable and incredibly easy to follow. If you’re anything like me, you’ll need another app to drill hiragana and katakana into your head, but there are many free apps that do that very well (just search for “Learn Hiragana” and you’ll have a ton of options). For everything beyond that, this is superb. I tried the lite version first, and that’s generous enough to give you an idea of what to expect and see if it works for you. I bought the bundle with the intermediate text straight away because I liked it that much..Version: 3.2.1

Perfectly structured into bite-sized chaptersI grew up with several foreign exchange students from Japan. I took Japanese all four years of High School. My university didn't offer Japanese, so I dropped it and haven't practiced it for nearly 17 years. Still, I love the culture and the food and the people and it has been a dream of mine to visit Japan. With a first time visit to Japan in my near future, this app has been perfect for getting back on board remembering the things long forgotten and recalling proper sentence structure. At chapter 31 I am recognizing that I need to supplement this with more listening to speech and speaking, but this is my basis for truly understanding what I am drilling in other practice apps..Version: 3.1.1

Extra!User friendly, easy to use, comprehensive...a must for anyone interested in learning Jaoanese..Version: 3.1.1

R8 8/8In all seriousness, its a great app.Version: 3.1

Fantastic App!Human Japanese makes learning Japanese really fun! It explains everything in a way that makes it feel intuitive and easy to remember, and the writing has a lot of personality and heart. I highly recommend trying the demo!.Version: 3.1.1

Great app!I'm very impressed with the Human Japanese program. I use it everyday to learn Japanese and it makes it very easy to actually learn. Very much worth the $15.00 for the combo bundle. The only thing I wonder is if I was to download the version for my computer would it be able to verify my email so that I would have a full copy since I purchased it on my phone. Otherwise, totally worth the money!.Version: 3.1

Excellent so farI'm excited to learn more!.Version: 2.1.1

Really goodWhen I first started learning Japanese I didn't know where to start. Because I was (and still am) learning a new language on my own I had to figure out the best way to learn. This app is extremely good for anybody wanting to start learning Japanese. The only down fall is that this app has is not having any practice sheets to try to create a lot of your own sentences. Besides that it's pretty perfect. 👍🏻👍🏻.Version: 3.1.1

Amazing appThis is a great way to learn the language,I was completely new to Japanese but with this app I was able to gain a general understanding about the country and the way the author has made it a fun and easy way to learn the language I have picked it up in no time and I'm sure many others will also I can't thank the author enough. Get the lite version to see for yourself I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised ^^.Version: 3.1.1

Absolutely brilliant.I tried so many other apps to learn Japanese. This one teaches you not just words, but the language structure and how it works. Absolutely thrilled. Love it!! Arigatou Gazaimasu!!!!.Version: 3.1.1

My primary Japanese learning sourceLove this app, I’ve learned so much through it. I’ve veered off from it before and tried various books but I always come back, and now after trying various ways I’m sticking with this app as my primary source of learning..Version: 3.2.1

Best language learning app out there. Totally worth gettingWow! This is THE best app I have ever used; I loved the way the author mixed some comedy in the text to make it more fun... Also the way he explained things made everything SO MUCH easier, he shows you how simple it really is to learn Japanese. Another thing that makes this app better than other language learning apps, is the cultural notes, they give you a good idea about what it’s like to visit, work or live in Japan. I also like the cultural notes because they give you a break after a long grammar lesson and you always get some really nice photos. The only bad thing about this app is that the author sometimes didn’t know how to prioritize the vocabulary, for example: he teaches you the word for "green grape" before the word for "mom" or "school". Ok, now to those who are wondering wether to get this app or not, I have one thing to say: GET IT NOW it’s totally worth it. And finally to those who made this app: Well done snd THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!どうもありがとごさいました!!!!.Version: 3.1.1

This is awesomeI tried out like a million apps trying to learn Japanese, they are all just giving you sentences to memorize, it doesn't actually teach you how to speak Japanese, but this app tells you what everything is doing in a sentence and why. Even though you will still have to memorize a few words, but it's because you have to know a few now no to actually understand the sentence. You HAVE to try this out, if you are still hesitating about whether you should spend your money on this app, you could try our the human Japanese lite, it's the same as this but only has 5 chapters to let you try it out. Last thing, all this came from myself, it's NOT the app who told me to write a 5 star review..Version: 3.1.1

Fantastic way to learn JapaneseMy brother and I began studying Japanese using HJ when I was a sophomore in high school. We loved the way everything was explained and presented, and we loved how we also learned about Japanese culture through this app. When I went to university, I selected Japanese as one of my majors. Just from studying with the Human Japanese apps (beginner and intermediate), which cost a total of $20, I was able to test into 3rd year Japanese, saving literally thousands of dollars. Now, I use this app as a sort of “textbook” to give my mom Japanese lessons every week. I could not be more happy with Human Japanese..Version: 3.2.1

Brilliant.I bought this app ages ago, with the interest of learning Japanese as a hobby. But I never did have the time to properly invest in it. However, i've recently started university, and taking Japanese as a breadth course. This is when I truly discovered how amazing this app is. Thanks to this app, I was able to learn a whole new alphabet (Hiragana) in no more than 3 hours! A lot more useful than my textbook. Each lesson is fun and engaging, which helps to make you eager to continue learning this beautiful language. In conclusion, a must have app for anyone new to Japanese..Version: 2.1.1

すごい ね!So incredibly helpful! I managed to kickstart learning independently before moving to Japan this year using HJ. Since arriving, I've been praised on my progress in such a short time and have managed to pick up the language a lot faster due to a better understanding and deconstruction of Japanese provided by the app. It is easy to use, encourages learning informatively and productively in constructive and fun ways! I never dread sitting down to practice my Japanese with HJ and highly recommend this app to everyone I know looking to start/continue to learn Japanese! Absolutely no regrets and no doubt the best language app I've come across! ごうほ ありがとう ございました!.Version: 3.1.1

Beyond amazingThis app is beyond amazing. I come back to it year after year to brush up my 日本語 - it is always a pleasure to interface with and learn from. Could not recommend Human Japanese more highly enough for someone starting out with this awesome language..Version: 3.1.1

Loving it!Loving this app..Version: 3.1.1

Love it!Exceptional app. Well put together and such a great way to learn a language in a useful manner.Version: 3.1.1

Very well done app :)Well done, I really recommend this app!.Version: 2.1.0

Excellent learning app10/10. In less than 2 weeks, using the app each day, i'm now able to read hiragana and a bit of katakana without major difficulties. I learn new vocabulary, and more about japanese culture. A must have app. I did all that with the lite version so give it a try, i just bought the full version, the guy deserves my money more than any app i've tried..Version: 3.1.1

Very GoodHJ is still relevant and accurate despite its years. If you can’t complete this and HJ Intermediate and head over to Satori Reader to continue there, you will have done yourself a service in learning the Japanese language. Don’t forget Wanikani for Kanji learning which also integrates with Satori Reader. Brian the developer is very pro active in responding to your questions. Highly rated..Version: 3.2.1

Clear and SimpleSo far this app is simple, clear and thorough in design. I'm loving it..Version: 3.1.1

A great way to access JapaneseThis is an excellent introductory approach to learn the fundamentals of Japanese grammar. If you apply yourself regularly to following the chapters, and ensure you review often, you will be on the path to understanding and communicating in Japanese..Version: 3.2.1

Amazing appThis is such an awesome app to have on my phone, i use it in conjunction with WaniKani for learning kanji. Between the grammar in HJ and supplementary apps, i feel like learning japanese has been a breeze so far; definitely worth the price, especially for one time. I admit i got stuck around chapter 8 with reading everything, but once i started taking a break from grammar and learning kanji and vocab, things started to click when i came back to HJ. Couldn't be happier, and i'm excited to learn at my own pace (which is picking up quite a bit)..Version: 3.1.1

Great Intro to JapaneseI already knew some basic Japanese before using this app, but wanted to fill in any gaps in my knowledge. Great coverage of grammar and useful vocabulary..Version: 3.1.1

Excellent App to Learn JapaneseEasy to learn and very Informative..Version: 3.1.1

「完璧!」 (かんべき!)I love these apps ! They really do a great job of teaching, and even if you've already taken Japanese courses, you can learn a few things more !.Version: 3.1.1

CaptivatingBrilliantly written and engaging. I would absolutely recommend the app to any beginners wanting to learn Japanese..Version: 3.1.1

So worthyDon't think too much about it! Just get it!.Version: 3.1.1

Excellent teaching appI really enjoy how the author engages with the learner in this app. I started watching a lot of anime and then I decided to learn some Japanese. I tried the demo of this app and I was immediately hooked. After a month or two, I was starting to pick up different words and phrases. It's really helpful and one can learn at his/her own pace. It is convenient to sometimes go back a few chapters and refresh the memory. Great app, I didn't know any Japanese besides the three words you see in the movies, and this has helped a lot so far.Version: 3.1.1

Still a fantastic app after all these years. This was one of the first apps I ever bought back when I got my iPhone in high school. It explains Japanese beautifully and it still receives updates. I even noticed that now it has notes regarding changes to some text compared to the previous version. This is a fantastic app, and if you are looking into learning Japanese, it’s a great companion..Version: 3.2.1

Superb!Excellent app. Would definitely recommend!.Version: 3.1.1

Best app for getting into JapaneseI was a bit concerned about the price of this app at first. But after having tried other online resources with little success I finally decided to buy it, and I'm glad I did. The text is incredibly well written and easy to understand. Nothing like reading a dry and boring textbook. Although I haven't finished the beginner course yet I went ahead and purchased the bundle that includes the intermediate course as well since I know I'll enjoy it as much as this one. My only wish is that there would be more review and grammar exercises available for practice. Other than that it's an excellent app and I highly recommend it to anyone studying the language..Version: 3.1.1

A Great Language JourneyI have been using this app for six months and have waited until I completed the course before submitting a review. That’s right. It’s taken six months of around three or four hours a week to get through. It was worth every hour, I assure you. I had two objectives when I began. Firstly, I wanted to be able to read hiragana and katakana confidently in order to understand basic Japanese grammar constructions. Secondly, I wanted to be able to write the characters of those syllabaries confidently. It’s important that I say that because what I did not want to focus on was how to converse naturally in Japanese. My intention is to mostly read and write it. In that regard, this app has fulfilled, if not exceeded my expectations. I haven’t come across a better method for learning basic sentence construction using hiragana and katakana anywhere else. I was prepared to write out every Japanese sentence in the forty or so lessons that are contained in this course, and that’s why I can say with confidence that my objectives were securely met. The lessons are very well constructed as other reviewers have mentioned. As a basis for beginning a Japanese language journey with an eye firmly fixed on reading and writing, this app is excellent. But it takes effort to stick with it. I also recommend buying a Genkouyoushi practice notebook before you start for all those Japanese characters you’ll be writing. It’s a rewarding experience and a great feeling to know that you can recognise and write around ninety Japanese characters from memory, and be able to use them to form simple words and sentences..Version: 3.1.1

Not far from godlyThis program has made learning Japanese a fairly easy and enjoyable task! I took an interest in learning the language, and had been self teaching online from various websites. It was hard that way, and I never knew how much progress I was making. Now I get feedback, and can trust that what I'm learning is correct. There is audio of every word you learn, making it easy to know what the words sound like. There are cultural notes, experience points, organized chapters, and easy lessons. Now, I'm doing great! I am fourteen years old, but this program seems good for all ages. The lessons are clear, and go in an order that makes sense. It's inexpensive compared to many programs, but the contents are the best I have seen so far. The demo to this app was even better than the demo of Rosetta Stone, so it's really a great deal! I think you should check out this app, and know that once you try the free version, you will want to purchase it!.Version: 3.1.1

AMAZING!!This app is so useful and helps you learn so much in an enjoyable format. i would recommend this to anyone interested in learning japanese. definitely worth buying!.Version: 2.0.4

Highly recommended app for Japanese beginners!Highly recommended app for Japanese Beginners. Everything is explained concisely and accurately and it's very easy to understand all of the concepts. The grammar points in particular are explained very well, particularly the difference between the は and が particles, which some other learning materials have trouble describing. All of the examples are useful for explaining the concepts and the voice recordings are superb. The book might move a bit too fast for absolute beginners, but if you can already read hiragana and katakana you'll really enjoy the book..Version: 3.1.1

Best way to learn JapaneseI have paid for a few programs to learn Japanese and have spent allot of money on them, this app is by far the best way to learn the language. This app takes the most time to explain why Japanese is how it is whole other programs get you to simply memorize without explaining why.Version: 2.1.1

Great explanationsI truly do love how everything is explained here. There are so many things that confused me with Japanese up to now, which this app really helped with. I know it's unlikely but I do wish there was an update so that everything could be read portrait, rather than having to rotate my phone each time..Version: 3.2.1

人間の日本語This is the best possible resource I have found for anyone learning Japanese. I details every point of beginner grammar ( assuming you buy the intermediate version after finishing this one), and gives tips on culture as well as aiding in pronunciation. You really get to know the author of the app over time, and he paces the learning and exercises very well. The photos that accompany many of the lessons are artistically captured and provide beautiful visual insight. The only fault this app has is that it does not exist for Chinese, Korean, Arabic, or any other asian language for that matter. I also wish the series went on to the advanced level. All that aside, It is the best foundation I could imagine for Japanese aside from a live teacher or complete immersion..Version: 3.1.1

Total Engagement. Simply incredible. The thing I love the most is the conversational tone this app is written in. It makes the learning fun and easy unlike an information dump from a textbook. Having the ability to attempt to read a sentence, and then check whether you correctly translated is incredibly powerful. Furthermore to this, you can tap to listen/practice the pronunciation. I love this app, and I will no doubt be purchasing the intermediate edition!.Version: 3.1.1

One of the bestThis app is incredible. It, along with the intermediate, will get you fairly far into Japanese. I couple it with Genki and Textfugu to get as much as I can. Though I use Genki and Textfugu, I keep coming back to HJ. The cultural notes are exquisite. The stroke animations are perfect. They lay out all you need to know to get a good foundation. I can't recommend it highly enough. The ONLY downside is that the same program is available on multiple platforms at different costs. I bought both HJ apps for 13 dollars here when I really wanted the PC version, which costs ~18 each. There is no universal access..Version: 3.1.1

Best app I’ve foundI work for a Japanese company and travel to Japan frequently. I’ve always found it difficult to really master Japanese as I lose so much between trips and as a global company English is the common language so we don’t use Japanese as much as you might expect. The big benefit to me with this app is learning to read and write plus understanding the nuances of the different syllabaries. It let’s me understand conversations and menus etc. much better and helps me form sentences when I need to speak strictly in Japanese. Thanks for a great, well designed app..Version: 3.2.1

ExcellentI've been studying Japanese for about 8 months now and the more I learn, the more I appreciated Human Japanese. The lessons are clearly and concisely presented with a lot of examples. I like the quizzes at the end of each section but wish that there were more questions. I also loved learning Hiragana and like it that HJ dropped automatically showing the Romaji translations after a while, forcing me to practice reading using just the Hiragana. Excellent app! My husband just told me that there's an advanced version now--hurray. Now I can keep learning!.Version: 3.1.1

Great appBy far the best app for learning Japanese. The whole experience is great in presentation of the information and the logical progression. The only downside is there are no exercises to solidify your understand minus the short tests at the end of the chapters so you need to take it upon yourself to make ways to practice the information..Version: 3.2.1

HJ is great 👍I love this app. It makes learning Japanese easy and fun. The chapters are logically sequenced and the Japanese spoken pronunciation of each word and sentence by a simple tap ensures you learn to say words correctly from the start. I can’t wait for my next trip to Japan to try out my new language skills. Thank you so much for this app!!.Version: 3.2.1

Absolutely amazing. Astounding.I would recommend this application to any and every person who is looking to get in to the study of the Japanese language. Not only does it cover grammar, but also vocabulary. The intermediate version goes in to kanji as well, if my memory serves correctly, thus giving you the three keys to learning the Japanese language. You will eventually need more sources to continue to learn, but this app is VERY extensive..Version: 3.1.1

Simply grateVery good for beginners.Version: 3.1.1

Amazing app great for all learnersWow this app gives you a great introduction to Japanese and makes learning easy and flow smoothly. And supports you in areas where you might be struggling. Definitely recommend to people with any amount of knowledge. Best app out there if I could give it six stars I would!.Version: 3.1.1

Better than a college classIf you are an English speaker and want to learn Japanese, BUY THIS APP!!! I took Japanese 101 in college and I enjoyed it BUT, my teacher was Japanese and as such, there was a bit of a bridge to cross for my teacher to relate concepts to us because for her, it was instinctual. This program was written by a native English speaker who sees the problem from our side of “the bridge” and he gives much better explanations and relates it more naturally to us because he is one of us. If you complete this beginner app, you will speak and understand more Japanese than I did after a full semester of college level Japanese. Seriously, buy this. It’s good..Version: 3.2.1

THE Perfect app for learning JapaneseSimply the best app and teaching book out there for a lover of japanese!.Version: 3.1.1

Great app a must for beginnersIt can feel a bit slow in the beginning but this helps build a foundation of knowledge. I didn't know any Japanese before using the light version and have received so many compliments on my pronunciation and handwriting I felt I had to buy the full version. It is worth every penny. I can't recommend this app enough..Version: 3.1.1

Amazing!!This app is much more interesting and informative than all the Japanese learning books I have taken out. Makes learning fun and addicting. I just had two Japanese exchange students for two weeks and I showed them this app, they said it was amazing as well! I hope to learn enough to speak with them before I see them again in July with the help of this app!.Version: 3.1.1

The best way to learn!I’ve tried dozens of different ways to learn Japanese over the years, and this is definitely the best source of instruction I’ve found so far. Just treat these textbooks like a class, and you’ll be learning in no time! This isn’t just about memorizing phrases and letters, these books tell you exactly what you’re learning and why it’s in that order. Not only that, but the reading itself is entertaining and informative. Do yourself a favor and get these textbooks!!.Version: 3.2.1

Well worth the 10$!I first got the free version and it was the most useful thing I have read. I recently went to Japan and every single thing in this app helped my japanese incredibley. I just bought the full version because even just the first 10 chapters taught me soooo much. i would have bought it if it was 20$ or more because it taught me alot more than the 100's of dollars i spend on textbooks and dictionarys and workbooks! If you are weary about buying this app get the free version first and I garuntee you will want to learn more. This app rocks!!.Version: 0

GGreat app for learning Japanese. Quick, easy and fun!.Version: 3.1.1

Must have JPN appAfter trying out the lite versions, I bought the Human Japanese bundle and, although I'm not one to spend money on apps, I am far from disappointed. There are few resources for learning Japanese (for pay or otherwise) that do a good job helping you learn. This is the exception. You'll learn to read and speak, but also tidbits of culture that give the learning process more purpose and keep you motivated. Don't think about it, just buy if you are interested in Japanese or Japan itself. It's definitely a good value..Version: 3.1.1

Wow!I never write reviews for apps, but this one is hands down the best one I've ever purchased. Try the lite version! You'll see how quickly it'll make you progress and UNDERSTAND the language! Have fun with it too, that's what it's all about :).Version: 3.1.1

Best iPod app, quality contentBy far the most useful and worthwhile app available. The author appears to have genuine enthusiasm for this subject and it shows in the quality of her/his writing and the ingenuity of the app. I enjoyed learning with the app so much, it inspired me to join a Japanese school, however I'm still using the app for reference and practice. The best $10 I've spent so far..Version: 0

AmazingHighly recommended. Logical, fun, just the right balance of background, language, explanation and challenge..Version: 3.1.1

Great introduction to Japanese!Started with some basic knowledge and worked my way through the entire course. Loved the structure, the explanations and the pace! Highly recommended!.Version: 3.1.1

Great!It's been very helpful so far.Version: 3.1.1

Amazing AppI can't even put into words how much I love this app except to say I so look forward to my lessons. The lessons are very clear and anticipate my questions well. I think that is extremely "human". It lives up to the mission and promise of the creator that it is fun to use and yet impart the ability to teach user Japanese. I have tried so many years and so many ways, but never enjoyed as much as I do now learning via this app. The only thing I would like to see is the ability to slow down the Japanese pronunciation. Thank you and keep up the good work. やった!.Version: 3.1.1

Perfect course catered to youIt’s like doing a course but without the stress! You basically learn stuff in chapters in a really well written way you can understand easily and then you can do a chapter test plus a vocabulary, plus a little quiz if you want, you can choose options for them too and they’re there for you to check to make sure you’re retaining information! It’s great! 100% recommend.Version: 3.2.1

This app is terrificI wish there was an app like this for every language. I'm so glad I bought it and it's making me feel very prepared and excited for my upcoming trip to Japan. I don't know how much I'll really be able to learn before that trip, but just getting the fundamentals of Japanese from a few hours with this app so far have been fun and fascinating, and I expect I'll keep going with it even after I've returned from Japan. I have nothing bad to say about this app; it's well-written, well-paced, and extremely engaging and clear..Version: 3.1.1

Excellent, but…Why have you abandoned the human Japanese app? I just revisited it and was willing to pay an additional $15 in order to have the iPad version. Complete but, why should I bother? Although it should work for both the iPad and the iPhone, you made us pay twice. OK, I’m willing. Oh wait, you no longer care about this app. It’s really too bad since it is quite possibly the best Japanese learning language app ever. It’s really a pity that you don’t bother to answer any questions in app reviews. Completely incomprehensible..Version: 3.2.1

The only app for learning JapaneseThis is a fantastic introduction to Japanese. It's perfect for someone with no experience learning Japanese or an extremely limited understanding of the language. I can't recommend this app enough. Definitely worth the price as books that would teach you this would cost three or four times as much..Version: 3.1.1

Leaves the others far behind ..Without any doubt, this is the best Japanese learning app. Lots of content, audio and examples, with clear explainations. Grammar - so many other apps ignore it. HJ does it, and does it superbly. Can't wait for the next volume. .... and I would also love Brak Software to develop a kanji learning app.Version: 0

Awesome appCan't really fault this app, it does everything it says on the tin. I was completely new to learning Japanese, and the app throws you right into the deep end (which is a good thing). By second chapter you're already learning reading, writing and pronouncing hiragana words and phrases. Definitely a must buy if you're looking to study this language, or try the lite version that completely free and offers you at least half of not more that the paid app offers..Version: 3.1.1

BEST app for learning JapaneseBetter than a textbook. The writer of this app really takes the time to teach you the characters before throwing you right in. The constant switch between characters, vocabulary, and cultural notes keep it interesting. Interactive quizzes at the end help you remember what you've learned. I didn't hesitate a bit to upgrade to the full version. Doumo arigatou gozaimasu!!!.Version: 3.1.1

If only all text was this interactive.... and so well explained!.Version: 3.1.1

Outstanding! If you really want to properly understand Japanese and you're fed up with the usual phrase books and dictionaries, then look no further. This is the app you've been looking for. I'm from the UK and although the English is aimed at an American audience, it really is easy to understand, with a fascinating explanation about the language (how to pronounce it) and the origins of the Japanese "alphabet". Believe me, I've only been using Human Japanese for a couple of days and I can now read enough Japanese characters to be able to read street names, maps and most signs in Japanese. THIS APP IS AMAZING and I can't believe how easy it is!.Version: 0

Best App AroundOne thing I love about this app is you can learn at your own pace. I've bought this app a while ago, probably 09' or 10'. I briefly read through the first few chapters. I didn't really hook as I didn't have the sort of ambition you need to start to learn a new language. Then I've made some friends that speak Japanese. Finally, I had a reason to learn this language. So, I've picked it up again back in 13'. It's been over a year now, with countless hours. I enjoy reading this app as it is engaging and just fun to read. Kinda like talking to a friend with the same interest in you. I made sure I understood every sentence in this book, and thankfully, I've learned many other things outside this app through talking to my friends. It really encourages you to share what you've learned in the real world. Now, I think it is safe to say I can start the intermediate version. Who knows how long that will take. But as long as it remains fun, I can read this software forever. Get this app! If you really want to learn Japanese. Just know, you can learn any language you want, just like the language you were born into..Version: 3.1.1

Best Japanese learning app out there, hands down.(I was in the middle of leaving a longer more thorough review about how great this app was, but it got deleted since I clicked to install a different app later on, so I'll try and keep this short and to the point.) -If you're skeptical about purchasing this app, try the free version, Human Japanese Lite, first. It took me through all of Hiragana, which is well worth it for a free app. -Teaches you what you need to know, when you need to know it. The saying, "There's a time and a place for everything" comes to mind. -Teaches you in a way that makes sense, hence the name "Human Japanese"; teaches in a "down to earth" like method, almost as if you were, you know, human? :P -Teaches in plenty of detail, along with examples to help with understanding and to retain the knowledge. -Quizzes you at the end of each chapter to make sure you're ready for the next one (with the option to disable if you're not fond of the feature). If you're really interested in learning Japanese, there is no reason to not get this app..Version: 3.1.1

If you're learning Japanese, get this appSimply the best app for learning Japanese vocabulary and grammar. You should probably learn hiragana and katakana characters first though otherwise, brilliant resource for learning Japanese..Version: 3.1.1

Fantastic!I love this app! You learn Japanese in such a clear, helpful and fun way. It's very enjoyable. I studied Japanese at university for 3 years and so far, this app beats my university course in terms of clearness, fun, effectiveness and of course price! I'm learning new things I didn't know - and I even lived in Japan! This app rocks and I'm very happy to be learning (re-capping) with it. It's fantastic..Version: 3.1.1

An excellent and impressive appThis system clearly demonstrates the intricate and complex structure of Japanese linguistics. It breaks down each component to its very core, making it easy and accessible to people from any age. Highly recommended for anyone starting out with Japanese or brushing up on things they may have forgotten..Version: 2.1.1

Excellent AppThis is by far the best app for learning Japanese! Everything is explained clearly and in a way you'll actually understand, you're not just memorizing phrases from a text book. If you want to learn Japanese it's a must have, worth every cent!!.Version: 0

Excellent appWorth much more than the asking price. Delivers on its premise..Version: 3.1.1

More like a tutor than textbookThere is a connection between the author of this app and the reader, it's not cold like a textbook. The app has a more conversational feel which engages the learner and makes one stick with the app. Other Japanese learning apps are simply dictionaries or vocabularies, but this app guides the user through the very basics smoothly. At the end of each chapter there is an interactive quiz and vocabulary building quiz to help cement what was learned. The Japanese words need only a simple tap and audio of a native Japanese speaker reading the words plays. That feature is one major reason this app is superior to a textbook. Well-designed, friendly author, lots of content, and audio examples make this my favorite Japanese language learning app. I took 3 semesters of Japanese in high school and I think I learned as much then as I did in this app.Version: 3.1.1

Excellent introduction to JapaneseI’m around a third of the way through the Human Japanese course and I’m happy to wholeheartedly recommend it. I had a little experience with the language from Duolingo, but found that course to be somewhat lacking in explanations and context, and reliant on trial-and-error learning. I can’t say the same about Human Japanese - concepts are clearly explained and given the appropriate context. The course also includes fascinating insights into the Japanese way of life. Highly recommended..Version: 3.1.1

AwesomeWorth the 10$.Version: 3.1

Perfect introduction to a new languageStarting out as a complete beginner in Japanese, I was a bit overwhelmed by the number of options available for self-study. Coming from a background in education and music, I knew I was looking for two things. First, I knew I wanted an app that would allow me to practice on a daily basis wherever I happened to be. Secondly I needed a resource that would be a kind of one-stop shop and save me endless Google searches. Human Japanese fills both those requirements, especially the latter. The author’s explanations along with the practice quizzes and exercises have been indispensable to me. I currently use a number of different apps, each with slightly different strengths, but Human Japanese is the one I keep running to for help. Couldn’t have asked for a better 先生! ありがとうございます!.Version: 3.2.1

AmazingI honestly can not rate this app high enough. From a complete beginner to being able to read hiragana in 2 weeks. And since then it's been nothing short of great. Seriously amazing and fun app. Fully recommended..Version: 3.1.1

GreatThis is a really good tutor led course. I have only just started and will come back and review again after my exam..Version: 3.1.1

Best learning app! This is by far the best way I've tried to self-learn Japanese. I've tried a PC program like Rosetta and an audio program, but this is by far the best way to learn for me. It's very well explained and has audio clips from a native speaker who speaks clearly so you can hear the subtle sounds. It has easy navigation for chapter reviews, tests, and a great game for helping test/memorize the katakana/hiragana characters. It's also decently priced for the full version and the lite version has a lot to offer so you can make an informed decision whether to purchase the full app or not. I couldn't rate this app higher or recommend it more. Thanks for this wonderful app! I also recommend anki app for flash card style help. It pairs well with this app..Version: 3.1.1

Amazing! It's totally worth it. it teaches japanese in the simplest way possible. it has everything!.Version: 3.1.1

Excellent introduction to the Japanese LanguageHuman Japanese is a quality application that will be very useful for people new to Japanese or for students of Japanese who want a quick review of the basics. The information is well laid out. It feels like you are reading a well written text book, but with the added bonus of having multimedia built into it. The author has put a lot of thought into the content of this app. It is well structured and has a beautiful interface. There are lots of small interactive games to help you with the tedious task of memorizing Japanese characters and words and the mix of vocabulary study, culture and history is well balanced. There are tons of Japanese education apps on iTunes at the moment. Almost all of them are glorified flash-card programs. Human Japanese is not one of them. It is well worth the asking price and one of the best apps I have bought this year. Hopefully the company will release levels in the future!.Version: 0

Really great!Comprehensive.Version: 3.1.1

Best app.Best app for learning Japanese hands down..Version: 3.1.1

SugoiGreat app!.Version: 3.1.1

Excellent app!An excellent app! Very well designed, I actually look forward to using instead of just hogging space in my device, bought the app combo got me a bargain! Thanks..Version: 3.1.1

One of the bestThis is without a doubt the best foreign language programs out there. It use a comprehensive and old school approach of teaching Japanese that immerses you in both the language and culture. I am terrible at learning new languages but I found this program to work great. This program works best if you want to make notes and put in a little extra effort. It would still work as a casual learning program if you repeated chapters. Great app for those interested in Japanese. I would also recommend there PC platform too..Version: 3.1.1

Extremely well designedHuman Japanese is an excellent app. I say this confidently as someone with a smattering of experience in both instructional design and Japanese language. The explanations are crystal clear in a voice that never bores, with a clean visual design that is easy to read. Each example is available for listening and can be broken down into all its individual parts if the learner wishes. The topics are seamlessly progressive so you will follow along at every step. I am a subway commuter, so I also love the fact that the app is 100% offline, and I can learn and practice even without an Internet connection. If I had a wish list for this app apart from Duolingo-style translation activities, I would like to have all the kana and stroke order animations together in one place for reference. I would also like to be able to shuffle quizzes and conversations from multiple chapters, and be able to jump to the chapter where a particular sentence or question comes from if I need to review it. (I finished all the lessons now but to review conversations I have to go through chapter by chapter.) However, these are just possible improvements to something that is already いいです. I'll be moving on to the intermediate level soon. どうもありがとうございます!.Version: 3.1.1

Excellent learning tool, especially with othersHuman Japanese does as the name suggests, teaches the Japanese humans use, not a lot of textbook stuff like other language apps sometime use (such as Duolingo). I highly recommend learning Hiragana, Katakana and at least some basic Kanji to assist in your learning first, but after that this is a perfect tool. I use over a dozen different apps and programs for learning and this is absolutely one of the best for learning vocabulary and for going straight into learning useful phrases instead of これはペンです and stuff like that. Please keep in mind I am up to Chapter 11, so if anythinvo Human Japanese will teach: Useful vocabulary How to write Hiragana and Katakana Useful cultural knowledge It also has tests at the end of the chapter with spoken Japanese that are good for reviewing your knowledge for that chapter. The numbers chapter has an especially good test where you can set a parameter of numbers to be spoken in Japanese (no writing) and to put it in a calculator. I tested up from 1 to 999,999 and I found it helpful for listening practice, but can be set as low as 10 or 100. Human Japanese may not teach: Kanji, until much later in the app. (I recommend Wanikani highly for this instead) Hiragana and Katakana (it teaches how they are written, but there are better ways to learn these alphabets from scratch (Dr. Moku for example) Overall, one of the best apps for Japanese you can get, cannot recommend it enough. It is more than worth paying for the full app in my opinion. Good luck!.Version: 3.2.1

Awesome!!!This app teaches you how to speak Japanese in an easy to understand way, unlike other apps that are so confusing. At school in Japanese, I could never understand anything. But now I can read and speak (sort of) Japanese!.Version: 0

AmazingThis app is so amazing, it's so personable and very addictive. I highly recommend it to anyone whose seriously interested in leaning japanese. This is a fun and intriguing way to do it !.Version: 3.1.1

Best app i haveThis is by far the best app i have. i memorised the entire alphapet (just hiragana not kanakata XD) and learned basic grammer in a week. And im only on chapter 6 of 40. Its well worth the money if u dont know any japanese and u want sonewhere to start ty for the great app..Version: 0

I love this app but…This app is great. I had it on my old phone and I was able to make steady progress with the language by using the app for a short per of time everyday and I love the result. But my phone broke and I ended up having to re-buy it. Now it won't let me sign in. The keyboard does not disappear when I'm done with my user name and so I cannot hit "done". This is very frustrating for me so if someone could address this issue it would be much appreciated..Version: 3.1.1

The right way to learn JapaneseI have been searching for Japanese learning app for a while. So far this is the best. I especially like the comparison between English and Japanese in terms of culture and habits, which are usually missing in many other apps. If there is one thing I'd suggest for improvement, it would be more variety of exercises. I was using Duolingo for French as well and I really like Duolingo's exercise style. It would great this app can have more ways for users to practice..Version: 3.1.1

Easy for anyone to learn!Great app. Written in such a way that anyone can understand and learn. I bought the app two days ago and I (almost) can read hiragana. You'll want a workbook to write in while using it though..Version: 3.1.1

Really good! The app flows very well from lesson to lesson. It is also very engaging. It's almost like having a full online source right in front of you to use. Only con is the lack of practice it provides, but the material is well rounded..Version: 3.1.1

ExcelentI tried this app with a cracked one first and it's so good that I actually bought the bundle to support them. Yes, it's THAT good..Version: 3.1

Overall a great study/teaching toolI really love the way it's set up like a textbook. Each lesson has a review at the end. I wish there were more questions because ultimately you do wish to learn all of these words. Not just "pass the class" as if in school. So I had to get a few supplementary apps to review more. Especially the kanas. But overall I really love it so far. You get to learn a bit about the culture and history along the way too which is helpful if you plan on going or living there. Which I do..Version: 3.1.1

Best way to learn!Great app that was worth every penny. The lessons were broken up nicely, explaining the mechanics of the language whilst helping you to learn Hiragana, Katakana and even throwing in useful vocabulary at the same time. It was also very engaging and fun to use. Developers - it was kinda frustrating starting over once I upgraded to the paid version, please find a way for us to log in and keep our accounts/XP points!.Version: 3.1.1

Very usefulThis app is very useful, it takes you one baby step at a time into Japanese grammar. I can see somebody criticizing the way the lessons are arranged or how in depth it goes. But honestly if you are just starting this will be very helpful, you will grasp different concepts of the language without getting overwhelmed. By the time you finish you will be able to tackle more in-depth books about grammar or expand vocabulary a lot easier. Great app for beginners. And the fact that there's audio and a grammar break down in every example, but only if you click on it, lets you practice every single time you read an exercise/example..Version: 3.1.1

Best app I have ever bought for JapaneseI think this app is perfect for someone who wants to pick up Japanese as another language; and not just learn a few phrases, but to actually understand the culture and have a deep understanding into where the language came from. It gives great examples and helps you avoid the common mistakes people make when they learn Japanese, and also keeps it fun and interesting. Definitely worth the purchase..Version: 3.0

Une pierre deux coupsJe pratique la langue anglaise tout en apprenant le japonais avec une application hyper bien faite. Bravo..Version: 3.1.1

WowThis app is amazing, I cannot even put it in words how amazingly useful it is. The chapter order is logical, the writing style is not AT ALL ambiguous and he explains LITERALLY everything he brings up in a way that's easy to understand. Will you learn the entire Japanese language with this app? No, but this app is the best stepping stone possible for a beginner who wants to nail down the 'basics'. This app is where you want to start with learning Japanese! (Note: I would recommend learning hiragana and katakana before using this app).Version: 3.1.1

Learning Japanese made FUN and EASYI never realized how straightforward it could be to learn the basics of Japanese. I'm self-teaching myself starting from nothing and this app provides such interesting explanations that the material just sticks with me. The quizzes at the end of each chapter reinforce everything. To be honest, with the number of lessons in this app I feel that the price is a steal! I'm so happy to have this app and I hope that by the end of lesson 40 there will be more lessons on the way!.Version: 3.1.1

Sensational resourceI too have gone the path of the free trial and quickly moved to the full version. Absolutely well worth the price! Such a gentle and supportive intro to the language. Great for revision for those of us who have begun learning Japanese several times. Great work! I'd pay even more for a version with embedded video conversations, what about it?.Version: 0

👍🏻I LOVE this app. Very simple and so much fun to learn from. I recommend it to anyone wants to learn Japanese 👍🏻.Version: 3.1.1

Perfect for begginers! This app is worth every penny/cent I had no knowledge of the Japanese language before this app and well - I had searched on the Internet for some great begginers "lessons" in Japanese but nothing has been able to explain as well as this can. After having it for 4 days I can build Japanese words, read Japanese words as they're written (even if I haven't yet learned what the words mean) can intoduce myself and can count to one Million. It's so easy with this app, try the free version for bit then after you have discovered the awesomeness buy the full 40 lessons in the full version that will leave you having great Japanese convos. 5/5.Version: 0

Fun, Never FrustratingThe app does a great job of teaching you exactly what you need to know when you need to know it. It provides ample opportunity to practice with lots of spoken pronunciations of the characters. I've been taking it slow (deliberately) but find the information on how to write, pronounce and recognize the different characters consistently useful time and time again. Highly recommended..Version: 3.1.1

Brilliant appExcellent app, informative and fun to learn. Was able to read and write full hiragana syllabary in 3 days with how well this app teaches. Well constructed even for people who are brand new to the language.Version: 3.1.1

The way I love learningMemorization is boring, I love to learn the history and reasoning behind a concept and HJ hits on all marks!.Version: 3.1.1

MrSolid grounding - what I thought was going to be nothing but review actually included information I hadn't learned before, and the explanations for language idiosyncrasies, like why na-adjectives are what they are, was really helpful. Went through it quickly because I'd studied a lot of it before, but very easy to use and great to have native speakers for all the vocabulary.Version: 3.1.1

AwesomeI had the computer version so I already knew how good it wad. Amazing app and teacher!!!!!.Version: 3.1.1

Just a couple of very minor thingsI am loving this app. I struggle with language. Even learning new things in my native language can sometimes be a struggle, but I am slowly progressing along. A couple of minor things are missing in my opinion. One example is 0 (zero) in the numbers chapter. But after writing to the author, he responded with the answer I needed to understand zero in Japanese. I would have originally rated this with 4 stars, but his service immediately brought it to 5..Version: 3.1.1

To novakon...Mate, it works fine on my 3g. Your device is probably locked on portrait orientation. (Doh!) Anyway, brilliant app. It's up there with the language programs that are worth $100+. The quality you get for the price is such good value..Version: 0

Extremely informative and easy to use.I tried out the lite version first, which for a free app really gave me a lot of content, and it was definitely one of the best language self-taught material I have ever used. The history of the language and the evolution of the script were interesting and engaging to read, and the ways in which the characters were taught, were easy to grasp and useful in memorisation. Just one example, where the hiragana character と was concerned, there was a humorous picture of a big toe fitted inside the semicircle, making audio and visual associations, which have always been proven to be the most effective way in memorisation. Along the way, I've also learnt much about the geography and the culture of the country, and it's a nice break from just learning the words and phrases. This is a great beginner's app in leaning Japanese, I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in acquiring the language, and learning more about the country and its people as well..Version: 0

EXCELLENT EXCELLENTOMG WOW! Absolutely brilliant (and possibly the best) Japanese learning application ever made! I love the layout and I love the detailed explanations. This is a MUST-HAVE application for those who want to learn Japanese. I've learned a load and it's really helping! :] I would really want another application just to build up on more Japanese words and also one where it focuses on Kanji. I'd purchase it even for $30. Overall, it is THE best Japanese learning application EVER! You must get it!! NOW!! xD .Version: 0

Absolutly fantasticI'm going into ninth grade and I really wanted to learn Japanese as a subject. This by far is a great app and for someone as young as me to pick it up so easily using this just tells you that it's well worth it..Version: 0

Amazing app for anyone trying to learn JapaneseI can honestly say this app has been an amazing learning resource for learning Japanese. I never thought that learning a new language could be so fun and informative at the same time. The author of this app did an amazing job in the way he explains japanese language concepts. I took a year of japanese at university, paid over a thousand dollars, and I can honestly say, I've learned more, remembered more and had more fun with this app than I did in university classes. I recommend anyone who actually wants to learn Japanese to use this app, the small price is completely worth it. I can't wait to complete this app and move on to the intermediate one! Edit: I have finally completed this app. And once again I’d like to state my utmost appreciation for this app and its contents..Version: 3.1.1

Excellent insight and lessonsEnjoying the pace and style of the lessons, which intermingle history of the language with audio clips and step-by-step animation of how to write each character..Version: 3.1.1

Great app especially for beginners/those revising*Tried out the lite version before purchasing the bundle with both apps* I'm currently taking beginner Japanese classes at my local language centre and unfortunately, the teacher doesn't explain the grammar points well so I often have to re-read notes for them to stick. Not with this app though. Everything is explained clearly and is very easy to understand. Felt that bit by bit, things finally made sense. Loved the chapters about Japanese culture too, they were very interesting and a nice break from all the studying. I did find however that the chapters were often quite vocab heavy so it would have been easier to revise them if there was a compiled list at the end rather than having to flip back and forth trying to find the vocab in each chapter. Other than that, this is my first time purchasing a language app and I'm really pleased with them. I can really see the effort that went into creating both apps and I can't wait for future releases from the HJ team! ありがとうございます!.Version: 3.1.1

Great appIf you are going to Japan next week and want to order sushi, download any phrasebook app on the store. If you actually want to learn Japanese, get this one. Teaches the grammar, not just the vocabulary. I would also recommend the free app Tae Kim's Learning Japanese, but this one has audio recordings of everything, and that is huge. It would be nice to be able to turn the screen vertically and make the font smaller. But five stars anyways..Version: 3.1.1

ExcellentThis is a spectacular app. It has been absolutely crucial in my study of Japanese; it has taught me so much, and I still have more to go. Human Japanese was clearly thought out, from the order the subjects are presented, to the teaching style, even down to the app's design, which uses inviting and warm colors that are easy on the eyes. A great thing about Human Japanese is that it doesn't just teach you the language—it also teaches the culture and geography of Japan. I've yet to find another learning tool this good. My only complaint (if you want to call it that) is that it's not offered for other languages. I would love to see a Human Italian or Human Spanish..Version: 3.1.1

PerfectGreat app for learning Japanese. The reviews at the end of each chapter are really helpful to reinforce what you've learnt. Beautiful design and pictures in the cultural chapters..Version: 3.1.1

Amazing AppI'm taking Japanese Classes and this app is amazing to have to home and practice!.Version: 3.1.1

Great appI really enjoyed the interactive parts of the app and the regular revision..Version: 3.1.1

Good appI have found it to be a nice app for covering off basics.Version: 3.1.1

Incredible find...I’m hooked!Human Japanese is awesome!! It’s fun to read and full of information that’s extremely helpful and interesting too. I love it because unlike any other Japanese textbooks I have tried so far, Human Japanese is actually a page-turner! It had never occurred to me that a textbook could be like this. I feel like I lucked into private lessons with the best language teacher ever! (And it’s super affordable too.) I recommend it highly..Version: 3.2.1

Definitely the best I've used BUT...It could be better. When practicing kanji strokes, why not have these touchable for pronunciation? Also, the look of kanji is different. The first appearance page has them looking differently to when they appear in the reading practice. I find that confusing later on in the chapter when there are lots of new characters. However. I like this app, and so far finding it super helpful..Version: 3.1.1

AmazingNo other app can compare to this one. It teaches without being boring, it switches up the topics so the process doesn't drag, and the narrative gives every day examples in easy English to help you understand the more complicated topics. Very well made and I can't wait to continue learning. The audio really helps, and it teaches not only the language, but the culture too. Absolutely worth the (cheap!) price, plus some..Version: 3.1.1

Absolutely brilliantAs someone who doesn’t have time to receive a formal education in Japanese (but learnt the basics in school), this is an incredible course to fill out my knowledge. Seriously, dive right in with this one. It starts out with the basics of the basics and is an excellent foundation for learning alongside other apps like anki and WaniKani..Version: 3.2.1

Great way to learnVery thorough with explanations. Makes me feel like I’m learning the why behind the language rather than just learning the words with no context..Version: 3.2.1

Great App!Getting to the end and I don't want it to finish. Explains things perfectly for me and so easy to use. I think adding a search feature would prove very useful. I would definitely use it repeatedly. Thank you!.Version: 3.1.1

Love the update!I absolutely love HJ and I LOVE LOVE this update. In fact, I'm in Japan at the moment and finishing all the course before I came here helped a lot, - I can communicate with people a little bit, do shopping, read hiragana and katakana, etc. Now I'm going over this update, just to refresh the info, and I really love it! More info, more quizzes... And, oh, you've made an intermediate level HJ? I'm definitely getting it right after I finish this course!!!.Version: 3.0

Fantastic toolI've used a lot of Japanese learning apps and this one is fantastic. Bearing in mind I have a good grasp of beginner Japanese the way the material is explained and the lesson structure make it fun to learn and very understandable. Props!.Version: 3.1.1

Great Introduction ...However you really need to know hiragana and katakana before starting, while you are shown, hear and are tested on the kana there are no mnemoic memory aids... search tofugu hiragana. Otherwise this is fantastic, I completed each chapter handwriting all sentences, vocab and test answers and memorised all vocab thanks to the memrise course - search memrise human japanese. Going on to genki 1 before starting HJ Intermediate..Version: 3.1.1

Convenient, excellentI really like this app because it is straight forward, cuts to the point, methodical, and convenient because it's always available to take another bite whenever I have a few minutes free. That keeps it fresh. You use it or lose it, and this app allows me to keep using it, even if its just a small bit at a time. I feel as if I'm learning..Version: 3.1.1

Best app by far for learning JapaneseI've tried about a dozen apps for learning Japanese, but this one is on a whole different scale. Unlike the other monotone memorization camps, this app did really well as to explaining everything in an interesting way. It was interesting from Beginning to end and I Highly reccomend this to anyone (and I often reccomend this to friends aswell) who is thinking of tackling the wonderful language of Japanese..Version: 3.0

An excellent study toolAn excellent text book to aid you in your studies. Just don't think you'll learn the language from any one app, alone..Version: 3.1.1

A wonderful learning experienceThis is without a doubt the best language learning app I've tried. Duolingo may be fine for a European language and for drumming vocab into your head, but when it comes to the daunting task of approaching a completely foreign language with a radically different grammar and writing system, a more systematic approach is vital. This app gets you stuck in right away with learning the kana, and putting it to use as quickly as possible to get you used to using them. But while this could be overly scholarly and intimidating, the author's lighter tone and knack for succinct explanations really helps you stay on board..Version: 3.1.1

Great!I'm only a few chapters in but it has been so helpful! I bought this bundled with intermediate for about 14 dollars I believe, and I'm so happy, the price is a steal! I love how it shows you the incorrect way for a few things because I've caught myself doing it like that before, and thats something you won't get with just a text book. When I've tried studying Japanese before i always get bogged down, but this app makes it fun to do..Version: 3.1.1

An excellent foot in the doorI used the Human Japanese beginner and intermediate app when I was first starting to learn Japanese, and it was honestly the best thing I could do to seriously start learning and practicing my Japanese everyday. Having an app that I could use wherever I went really helped me keep up with my practice everyday. There’s pretty thorough explanations to grammar concepts that you don’t get from normal textbooks, and I even cracked a few laughs when going through some of the explanations and side notes the author leaves to make the concepts relatable to English language concepts. I suggest this app to anyone who wants to start learning Japanese fundamentals but doesn’t know where to begin, as well as anyone who wants to learn, but can’t take a book with them everywhere they go. I honestly wish I had started using this app many years ago. I also suggest the Satori reader app that the developers made to help learners that finish Human Japanese Intermediate..Version: 3.2.1

Great app for in depth learningI really like this app! Goes through the learning thoroughly, but it would be good to add training on the side to refresh what we learned a couple of lessons ago.Version: 3.1.1

Awesome !I highly recommend the app to anyone who wants to learn Japanese !!.Version: 3.1.1

Amazing appI'm so impressed with this app. Not only does the way the course is organized make it way more fun and interesting than the usual course you'd get in school, but the writing itself is conversational and clear. I can't recommend Human Japanese enough. If you want a way to learn Japanese via app, this is definitely the best..Version: 3.1.1
