MathStudio Pros

✓ Running Fine in YosemitePomegranate appears to have fixed whatever ailed the version 7 interface, it appears to work as nicely as versions 5 & 6. I’m revising my rating to reflect my overall satisfaction and enjoyment of this package. I’m working on being able to “roll my own” mathamatical software in Python, but still enjoy this flexible and approachable tool. The learning curve is drastically easier than Sage albeit less powerful. I’m happy to see it it running well again..Circus GeekVersion: 7.1

✓ Handy but has quirksI actually like MathStudio for its mix of CAS and numeric computation a bit like the old MathCAD. It's very handy for quick calcs and is pretty simple to use. Solving linear/non-linear simultaneous equations in it is a breeze (much easier than Matlab), and a single line plot statement can find maxima/minima as well as plotting. Sharing files with the ios version is a great way to take desktop designs into the field. It has some quirks though. The biggest is the help file which is mostly a list of function use examples and does not have a section devoted to getting started, settings, order of execution, etc. The discussion site that appeared to be used to hold this info is offline. It took ages to work out how to enter a complex number in polar notation. For the functions it's very good though. Because of this I had to hunt around to find how to change the number format to engineering. (PS: being able to change number base and having conversions would be good for computer science/digital work). Also entering complex numbers in polar form took longer because of no help topics on the subject. It doesn't automatically recalc the whole page after a change which means that if you don't regulary perform an 'evaluate all' things can be broken when you eventually do, as you may have set a variable later on a page but the earlier function/plot using that (typically x) now doesn't work. Because of this its vital to use the clear function at the start of a page and also to clear variables before using them as such. Combining this with evaluate all makes things much better. One new feature that I'd love to see is the ability to cut and paste diagrams into MathStudio, as a picture is often the only way to properly represent a physical system that's having its parameters calculated. This would really close the gap with MAthCAD..321ScatterVersion: 7.3.2

✗ Cannot plot linear equations and coordinatesNone of the examples in the app show how to plot basic coordinates or linear equations. All the other functionality is cool, but if it can't do basic linear equations what is the point? There is no support and nowhere to ask, so if the documentation is incomplete then I can expect absolutely no help. After clicking the support button in the app store, it sent me to a subreddit that has been frozen and no one is allowed to post to. Truly not happy with the $40 I spent on this on both iPhone and macOS..JH82198Version: 8.1.1

✗ Great app takes a false step forwardI loved version 5 of MathStudio. This version has great potential, but doesn’t quite reach it. At the very least, it should retain all of the functionality of the previous version. It’s a bit disconcerting to find functions that work just fine in version 5 give a message of:”Error: this function is not yet implemented”. What is that? I’m surprised and disappointed in the developer..Byron426Version: 6.0.3
