✓ Falling behindThe iPhone X has been out for over 2 years and still this app is not updated to accommodate the new screens. No problem when at home but when in mass I have to toggle between the password keeper and the app to get signed in. ✓ Not ready for prime timeI'm glad I did a free trial before paying money for this app. It needs serious enhancements, if not a total re-think/re-design. Please note: I will make some comparisons between this app and the Magnificat app. I don't want to get philosophical here -- I am aware that some folks strongly prefer one or the other according to their "conservative" or "liberal" leanings. Please set that aside for now. I will concentrate on technical and functional details. [1.] The major failing of the GUTD app is that, unlike Magnificat, IT DOESN'T WORK OFFLINE! With Magnificat you download this month's issue at the start of the month, and then you can use it offline for the rest of the month. This is not just a technical detail; it is a matter of courtesy to your fellow worshippers. You can set your phone to airplane mode and use Magnificat in church without the danger of disturbing others -- or being distracted yourself -- when the phone rings. (Silencing the ringer isn't as good -- other people are not disturbed, but you still are when the phone vibrates.) Offline mode also allows Magnificat to be used in environments (e.g.: subway trains, rural areas) where you would really like to use the app but there's no cellular signal or wi-fi. [2.] A related point: error handling of the app is terrible. An example: trying to start the app in airplane mode (which as we already know doesn't work). Any other app that requires a connection will show a message right away telling you that you can't use the app without a connection. The GUTD app simply shows you a blank screen and does nothing, giving you no clue as to what the problem is. [3.] Incidentally, the uninformative blank screen also shows for several seconds (depending on connection speed) when you start the app with a working connection. There is now "downloading..." or similar message to indicate that you will be rewarded with GUTD at the end of your wait, nor of how long the wait might be. [4.] The GUTD folks want to charge you an extra $10 a year for the app, on top of your subscription. Magnificat includes the app free with your print subscription. ✓ DO NOT BY DIGITAL APPPurchased annual digital access for $19.99 through Apple Store after viewing for 30 days free. Since purchasing I have been unable to access the app content. Message over grayed out screen says “free trial expired - subscribe now”. Tried contacting GUTD Tech support dept. via email, and also contacted by phone and was told I don’t show up on their records and I have to work with Apple for access/support/refund. Crazy! Figured out how to turn off the automatic renewal, but I’m still out $19.99 for access I was supposed to have until 09/21/2021..Spedgirld3Version: 1.10.4
