FluentU: Learn Language Videos for Positive User Reviews

Great app!!It's really amazing app i like the gradual process that it's used to make you memorise the words and phrases... but the most amazing thing is the short videos the add with clear french pronunciation.. love it ❤❤❤.Version: 1.3.4

I don’t get bored and I’m learning phrasesI was an intermediate speaker before getting this app. I get so bored of other apps. This one is not boring, and the content is very recent. You get to watch commercials and music videos etc. I don’t spend much time on it each day, but still feel like I have been learning. Especially colloquial/slang phrases and idioms that aren’t taught in most classes. Definitely worth checking out..Version: 2.4.5

Useful and differentI use FluentU for French. It is a fun way to practice, and exposes you to authentic and up-to-date language. The digital voice used in the exercises sounds odd at times, compared to a live speaker, and I have quibbled with the transcription/translation of the occasional word. On the whole, though, it is a good system for making native-speech video clips accessible to learners. As well as language, you get pop culture and educational exposure relative to you target language..Version: 1.1.3

Read, write, listen, speakI’ve been learning Japanese everyday for 2 years now with various tools and just found FluentU. Your brain will learn faster watching videos of people using words in context, it’s that simple. I even type the sentences out on a Word document while I’m watching. Then shadow talk with the voices at 50% playback. Then take the quizzes. Read, write, listen, and speak all in one. I’m making gains faster this way. A big plus is you can increase the size of the font pretty big for the kanji. This I really appreciate. ありがとうございます😊.Version: 3.3.5

Recommend for learning real conversational languageI’ve tried many apps but I like this one as it uses real life conversation, songs, documentaries, dramas. It’s very varied. The real life situations make it highly applicable to learning every day language skills. Thank you.Version: 3.2.2

Very goodI used FluentU and I’m learning Spanish easily. I would recommend this to people who would like to learn a language. Adios!.Version: 2.2.2

Good app for FrenchAs someone learning French in school, I wish they’d taught it this way more. It helps you learn colloquial phrases through videos rather than the traditional learners way which leaves you sounding like a textbook. Love that. I just wish they had more advanced flash cards, the intermediate and advanced are just slightly harder beginner words.Version: 2.4.6

Easy and Fun!I like the fact that the app gives you a 15 day trial. It's only been the second day and I love the content. It's super easy to use and it makes the tedious learning fun to do. Great app. Good job..Version: 1.2.7

Great appAs far as immersion goes this is as good as you could ask for. So many different materials to choose from and there's nothing like variety to help learning..Version: 1.4.2

Excellent w caveatsI purchased a year subscription and this program is excellent. It utilizes a Leitner/spaced repetition learning technique with multimedia—reading, listening siri-type voice, speaking, and native speaker video & anime—often with normal & slowed speeds for the siri readings. Caveats—It might be worth learning Kana (Katakana & Hiragana) and some simple Kanji before subscribing. I also found a jisho/dictionary and a verb book useful for clarification and rules..Version: 3.0.3

Good!It is a very encouraging program and you can set your own pace. I'm already thinking in a little bit of Japanese!.Version: 1.8.9

Great program for learningUse this every day. Learning system motivates you to keep at it, I have used other apps. Have stuck with this one..Version: 3.3.6

Fast and helpful supportAn update to the app broke it for me, and they actually did something about that..Version: 2.5.7

A Language Learners Dream AppI thought up something like this in my bead many years ago when I was learning my first two languages. But it didn't exist. I even searched for it a few times over the years. I just found it this week ans cant believe it. I am a critical person and want to find something to criticize but I can’t. Its fantastic in every way. So many features I feel it must have been created by language learners. Love this app..Version: 2.4.0

Wow this was unexpectedThis app REALLY teaches you! I’m currently learning Chinese (I have a bit of background with Chinese but I’m rusty) and the way they teach it makes SO much sense I actually WANT to learn I’m constantly on this app trying to improve. I have a 3 day streak going on and I’m happy i feel im getting better im still a bit green but I know if I keep up with this I’ll be better!.Version: 2.9.1

Love FluentU!The web version has really helped me improve my Chinese. Having previously tried podcast sites for learning Chinese, I can honestly say FluentU is way better. I love the way it integrates the video learning mode and reviews... It really helps me to retain and recall what I've studied unlike podcast sites. And unlike textbooks, I actually feel like I can put what I've learned into use instantly (I currently live in China and use Astrill VPN to access the website). However, I would like to see some features implemented to help me monitor my progress (e.g. Number of hours studied and words learned per day/week/month... Etc). I think this kind of feedback is important to keep motivated when learning Chinese. The Skritter writing app does this and uses bar charts to illustrate progress too. I'm sure this will come with time and the app/web site will keep on getting better and better. Thanks to the FluentU team for their great work so far!.Version: 1.1.4

Loving it so farI’ve only started with the app and have some basic Japanese from other apps and self study as well as a full version of Rosetta Stone. This has been by far the most user friendly. Rosetta Stone is brutal where FluentU is gentle and fun while still teaching you. The ability to see the kana, kanji and romaji is brilliant. Once you get your kana memorized well, you can turn off the romaji. I have high hopes for the long term of this app combined with formal college classes. I don’t think any single app or class will get you to a competent level. It is the combination of several methods and live practice with a native speaker if possible will get you there. I see this as being a solid foundation to build off of..Version: 1.7.1

The best I have foundI have used Rosetta Stone, Babel, and a number of different podcasts, flash cards, etc over the past two years but FluentU has the most useful and engaging way of virtual immersion I have found. I have achieved fluency with 2 hours per day over the past few months. Excellent and easy to stick with..Version: 2.2.1

Great app but one annoying issueWhen using it on the mobile device, when you enter an answer, it pops up saying ‘great, pay attention to the (tones)’ but this box blocks the English translation of the sentence so it’s impossible to see if you correctly I translated the sentence. But the app is great aside from that! It would be great to fix it ( possibly have the pop-up disappear if you click it).Version: 2.1.9

A more entertaining way to learnI just started learning on this app, I have tried Rosetta Stone and Duolingo and got bored so fast. With this one I am loving the videos. I can’t wait to start a new part of the unit to watch the fun videos you have there. The videos plus “gaining / winning points” and having day streaks is definitely making me feel engaged. Rarely leave app reviews, but this needed to be said :) Hopefully my dream of learning Spanish would be complete soon 🤞🏼.Version: 3.1.7

I really like this app/courseI have been learning Spanish for few years and have experience of other courses. I definitely like this one best. One ergonomic problem I have is when using the app on an iPad I keep accidentally catching the large Next bar on the bottom of the screen and moving to the next screen before I have entered my answer. It’s not a major problem but frustrating when trying to get a perfect score and you get marked as wrong when you’ve not even entered anything. It’s just a layout thing I think..Version: 1.8.2

Very effective for meI’m learning Japanese with it and like it a lot..Version: 2.1.8

Too priceyGreat app, but $30 USD is more than I can afford. Will cancel before trial ends..Version: 1.9.4

Great!Only been using this app for a couple of weeks and Iv already learnt so much! I have dyslexia and decided a month ago to begin to learn Japanese, after learning two of the basic alphabets (Hiragana and Katakana) and then needed to learn the third (Kanji) - with over 2000 basic characters I knew it would take me a very long time to learn, and with my learning style it is very hard to pick up information. I got this app after hearing such great reviews both online and in the App Store. FluentU creates small easy to handle categories that allow you videos in the language containing the certain words, an easy to understand explanation and reading of the word, a quiz who allows you to first recognise the word in relation to your language, then presents you with sentences it can be used it, tests you on the word in the sentence, then tests you on writing the word and typing it into the sentence rather then just reading it. With thousands of categories and it taking only a few days to learn each it is very to learn a new language, or even revise over languages you already practice! For me I love that at any time in the day if I have a few seconds I can look over the words in the category in seconds and move on. This repetitive theory helps me learn the words, and with a follow up every night of the pronunciation of words and practicing the tests I'm picking it up with ease. A definite app to get!.Version: 1.1.6

A fantastic app to learn ChineseThe best app for Chinese I came across so far. Useful content and fundamentally a big win for including western subtitles/tones/phonetics and not just the Chinese alphabet like many apps do. I’ll be buying a full subscription..Version: 2.2.9

Amazing app.Doesnt matter what language you want to learn, fluentU is an amazing app that will greatly ASSIST your learning capabilities and practice. It does a great job of providing you learning methods and has access to a lot of learning material. It is definitely worth the $30 per month ( i was paying $360 for 10 week courses ). To fully utilise this app, you will still need regular vocal and listening practice with a native speaker, but as I said you can greatly supplement your learning through the week inbetween classes or conversations with your native speaker..Version: 1.4.5

Great For Intermediate LearningI began my journey with learning German about 4 years ago, and I have to say from the outset that this program was not there at the beginning. I worked with several different do-it-yourself language tutoring programs; one of them I am still with (Babbel), one I really didn’t care for (Duolingo), and one I found helpful but no longer actively use (Lingvist). This program, I think (and this is just from my own personal experience), is better suited to those who already have a basic, fundamental understanding of their foreign language of choice. It is definitely helpful, before you engage with FluentU, to know some vocabulary and have some familiarity with how the grammar works. If you are at that stage in your language learning development, then this program can be an excellent tool in helping you further develop your vocabulary and overall comprehension. Don‘t look for them to coddle you - the words come at you fast, and it is your responsibility to learn them and follow along. I chose the intermediate level here (a little above what I can handle), and it‘s hard but I like being challenged. So, bottom line: If you are serious about learning a new language, and you already have some prior knowledge of the basics, I highly recommend FluentU to keep you moving forward!.Version: 2.5.5

SuperJe l'aime ❤️.Version: 2.0.0

Most usefulThis is currently the most useful AND interesting Japanese learning app for me right now. If it weren’t for this app, I would be reading off song lyrics and short stories and translating them myself so it’s nice to have this app make things more convenient for you. Price is a little steep compared to others. I wish they had a 6 month plan too. Also, would be good to have a way to request translation of certain videos that we like. For example, I really like the learning from the LINE OFFLINE series and would like to request more of it but there’s currently only 5 of them! :( Anyway thanks for putting this together, team!.Version: 1.7.1

Good appVery useful and fast to learn.Version: 1.2.1

Returning to FluentUI tried FluentU several years ago and thought it was interesting but was never really hooked on it and went on to other sites and forms of improving my Spanish. Now with the stay at home situation, I thought I would give it another look. This site has made major improvements in my opinion from its initial start up. I am very excited to make this my go to learning site for improving my Spanish. If this doesn’t improve my language abilities it will be from my lack of effort. It is engaging, fun, addictive, and interactive. Thank you fluentU , so glad I give you a second look..Version: 2.2.3

Great if used correctlyThis app gives you many advantages that others don’t, but it can feel overwhelming to beginners. A few tips: 1) Study the tones first. Train yourself to hear the tones and see if you can type the pinyin on your keyboard based on what you heard. Mimic the tones you hear. This app speaks them very slowly at first so you can hear the tone, then repeats it at a normal pace. DO NOT study with pinyin because you will use it like a crutch and it will really slow down your character recognition pace. 2) Do one playlist per day, don’t go crazy. Language learning isn’t a race, it’s not even a marathon; it’s a lifelong commitment. If you learn even 10 words per day and you learn them very well, then by the end of a year you will at least have basic conversational fluency. Learning 20, 30, 40 words per day will test your memorization ability, but it won’t improve your language skill. 3) Open your mouth! Repeat the words you hear in the exercises. If you’re not doing this, you’re skipping a very important exercise of these lessons. In the “audio” portions of the lessons, let it run and repeat a few times while repeating the words each time. They’re usually less than a minute, so it goes quick. Aim for 7-10 repeats before doing the quiz..Version: 1.7.1

Makes learning Chinese much easierI've tried lots of different language tutor apps and websites, and FluentU is the best I've come across so far. Easy to use and entertaining. It's fun..Version: 1.3.2

Great concept, app needs workThis is an awesome way to learn. The app interface, however, needs work. The current way is a bit counterintuitive. The app would greatly benefit from a categorization system for the videos instead of just a list. For instance, that anime with “Ginta” as the main character: it has four parts but those parts are really hard to find. It would be great if they were grouped together so you could complete them as a set. The same goes for videos of that same genre. You could have categories like news, information, drama, anime, etc..Version: 2.3.3

The pronunciations are too robotic, but good overall.I am learning Korean and have an intermediate understanding. This app is amazing for building context based on clips and then learning the vocab etc. My only complaint is that the the voice repeating the sentence are essentially from Google Translate. So if you’re trying to learn the pronunciations or the “flow” of certain sentences, do NOT try and follow the robotic one. Reference the video clip instead. I wish someone would take the time to clip the video audio to the sentences being taught or just record it themselves. It would have been great..Version: 3.3.7

Great for Intermediate LearnersI studied French in school but never reached fluency. I have tried over the years to improve my French, but I’ve found it hard to find resources at the right level. I have been using this app for a few weeks now on the Intermediate 2 level, and it has been perfect for me. There are countless videos, curated for my level, and I enjoy watching them. I have learned so much vocab and am getting a better feel for conversational French syntax. My kids are also using the app at Beginner 1. The videos available to them are not quite as engaging, so it remains to be seen whether or not they will stick with it. I also do wish the app had a family plan, as having the whole family using the app is pricey..Version: 2.4.6

Charge yearlyHow can i refund my yearly subscription?.Version: 2.3.0

More guidance pleaseHonestly though content wise this is probably the most beneficial app to learn languages on I’ve tried so many others. Only thing that needs improvement is like the guidance. I’m trying to learn Japanese and there’s so many ways of saying things but i don’t know exactly how to say certain things for specific situation. But other than that it’s too nice and the price is really worth all the content everything is pretty much one in place, at least for someone that’s beginner/intermediate.Version: 1.8.9

This program is greatI’ve been trying to learn and speak fluent Spanish for 42 years. My grammar is poor and I can’t apply it . This program is so much better than any of the other Spanish apps I’ve tried. It’s interactive and approaches the subject from a variety of angles. I’ve used most of the others before and they are too basic and don’t give you real life applications. This app does. I hope there are higher levels of learning too. I’m learning a lot and finally feel like I know what verbs and object pronouns to use when..Version: 2.2.5

Love this app!A quick and entertaining way to make learning Spanish a daily habit with good results..Version: 3.3.6

Be carefulThey will reel you in with a free trial but the app has no way of contacting them or deleting the subscription. I tried the app for a while but it isn’t very good for learning a new language. I stopped using it for a couple days and when i went to delete my account so i didn’t have to oh the subscription fee it didn’t work. They also conveniently put me down for the yearly subscription which was $150. So now I had to pay a subscription for an app that I won’t ever use bc it doesn’t help with learning a new language. If i could give this app less stars I would..Version: 3.0.6

Next-Level learningI’ve been looking for an app that is all inclusive like this. Really excellent work. The ability to pause the video/audio, click on narrative’s vocabulary below for additional examples and then return right back to where you left off SAVES SO MUCH TIME! $20 really is priced pretty reasonably once you consider how much more time you’re saving by concentrating on learning rather than researching. Also the ability to slow down the audio 0.5x speed for example is so useful!!.Version: 2.5.6

Uniquely inspirationalI am nearly to the end of my free trial and will be continuing the course. Where this has already helped me tremendously is in the spelling of French words. The orange ticks indicating the need to review are brilliant. I find it so stimulating and to use the power of other mediums to really grasp pronunciations in everyday language is essential. My translator app even recognises words it did not before. Such a fun way to learn. I am just starting to develop my own flash cards..Version: 2.5.2

Absolutely First Class.I don't often write reviews for Apps but I found Fluentu to be extremely helpful for Russian language learning. The video content is enjoyable and varied making it easier for my mind to make those associations needed for remembering vocab. It also has a feature that reminds you to review what you learnt on a previous day. Without doubt the best language app I have come across..Version: 1.9.7

Really good supportI subscribe to both Duolingo and FluentU and have to confess that I’ve only been using FluentU for a few weeks and Duolingo for about 18 months. FluentU is for an Aussie almost four times as expensive as Duolingo if you compare the cost of the premium access. I decided to try a year of FluentU and do the lessons in tandem when Duolingo was all too frustrating with a complete lack of grammar explanations and google searches were always bringing up good simple ones on FluentU. The app is excellent but not always intuitive to work out. The great strength is that they reply quickly to questions and are extremely helpful. Also there are far more video clips than one can trawl through for extra immersion and getting an ear for the language-considering the cost per year of language classes locally it is very much worth the investment:).Version: 1.6.3

This is the best learning tool I’ve seen for French!I am at the intermediate level in French. I’ve used Rosetta Stone as well as Duolingo. It’s hard to stick with either of them because they just get boring after a while. I am pretty determined to learn conversational French, and I stumbled upon FluentU when I googled the differences between “quand” and “lorsque” - which resulted in a great document from FluentU. So I signed up for the two week trial. I’m enjoying the video method SO much! I get to hear way more French the way that regular folks speak it. AND I get these useful emails with extra notes on grammar, recommended movies and popular expressions. I am blown away by how fun this is! I’ve already recommended it to several friends and family members Well done! Maureen.Version: 2.2.0

Great app!Really easy to dip in and out even when you have just a few mins to spare, or sit down for longer. Allows you to hear and repeat full sentences, drill down into individual words, watch videos. Very accessible..Version: 1.2.6

Best and Most Entertaining App Out ThereI am learning Spanish and have run through several of the paid courses online. This one is by far my favourite. My only reservation is that I find it hard to distinguish between South American Spanish and Spanish as spoken in Spain. Otherwise it’s brilliant!.Version: 2.2.1

The best Chinese learning app for meI love consuming media and being entertained while learning. This app is perfect for me because it lets me do both. The interactive dictionary lets me learn more and more words each time I’m learning something. It’s a great opportunity to boost your vocabulary..Version: 2.1.5

Great app for learning typical everyday languageI have been trying to teach myself Chinese for years and this app really helped me stick with it consistently. I find it easy to use. What I like most about it is it teaches common ways of saying things, the stuff you hear on the street or on TV shows (which is a big reason I’m learning Chinese). This is an invaluable adjunct learning tool. It tests you on writing, but I still supplement w Skritter to get the strokes correct, and I still read textbooks to get the reasoning behind grammar clear. But to drill into your mind the common ways people normally speak, this is where to go do you don’t get bogged down academically. Sometimes you just have to practice building sentences without thinking too much about what goes where so that it’s more reflexive and natural rather than intellectual. The only downside is when I’m not on WiFi, the movie clips take forever to load..Version: 2.0.8

Great language learning appI've used two other language apps and FluentU is the best of the bunch. It has heaps of video for immersive comprehension practice, it's well structured and logically progressive. It is easy to navigate and intuitive to use with plenty of flexibility. I'm making good progress even though I only spare a few minutes a time..Version: 1.2.9

Moves fast but a very smart appI started with some experience of Japanese-otherwise I’m not sure I could have absorbed the kanji and hiragana script so quickly. The method is good, though. I encourage anyone working in Japanese to get to know the keyboard as well as possible before going too far-it’s tricky especially to access katakana (necessary for imported words) on the iOS Japanese keyboard. (It’s easy and free to access the keyboard, though-just search online for info.).Version: 1.7.1

BEST APP IN THE WORLD!!!!!💖I recommend this app to ANYONE wanting to learn any language.I an currently learning Chinese and before i couldnt say or write a thing in Chinese but now没什么大不了 是晚SEE it is the BEST APP EVER💖💖.Version: 2.1.0

A great tool, landscape mode on iPad would improve it.Fluentu is a great supplementary tool for my Mandarin learning. Watching and listening to real media, combined with quizzes, really helps to build vocabulary and create a sense of immersion in the language. The app would be a lot easier to use if it supported landscape mode on iPad. I use an iPad Pro, so it is annoying to remove the iPad from its Smart Keyboard just to use this app..Version: 1.3.7

CourseHi there, how to find more courses to learn? I just can learn 1 course of hotel. No more course. Thanks..Version: 1.8.6

I enjoy this appHello! I haven’t used the app yet but I like what the ads are showing me so I’m gonna give it try! However, like the app Mango, I was able to use my library card so the source of income to the app came from the library so I can learn the language. So if you could get a library thing going that would be great! I’m a high schooler and I really wanna use this app to help me learn Chinese because I love it and because it’ll make my class easier! Thank you..Version: 2.2.4

ExperienceI just absolutely love this app because I had tried so many other courses, but FluentU is by the best online course that I have ever experienced. I love the way FluentU presents these courses as they were teaching us like kindergarten students because for those of us who are just starting to learn Russian it makes it so much easier for us to learn by the way you present your courses as though we were kindergarteners because we start from the basics and I love how you explain each lesson. Thank you FluentU, I shall remain your loyal customer and student because I am learning Russian so that I could communicate with my Slavic girlfriend. Sincerely King.Version: 2.6.4

ImmersiveI love that FluentU also uses local films and songs for learning texts. It’s great to hear native speakers and language as it is used in real life. I really enjoyed studying Гадкий Я and Это Всё..Version: 2.2.0

The learning resource we have been waiting forThey've finally realized the iPhone version! Excellent learning tool. Really useful for learning Mandarin as it's spoken. Couldn't recommend it enough..Version: 1.0.9

Great appAmazing app i feel like im learning so much!! German is going well.Version: 1.6.8

It’s fun!I’m glad to have a way to enjoy learning French. The app is easy to use, well paced and entertaining..Version: 3.3.0

GoodMy kid loves it,but why it keeps asking for internet connection after open video in Download? section.Version: 2.1.1

FreeI am unable to cancel because the settings page is always under maintenance. It is a scam. They keep warning me that my free trial is almost over but there’s no way for me to cancel. I’m going to have to ask my cc to reimburse me. Don’t sign up..Version: 2.1.5

Just started but really enjoying itMore for advance beginners rather than absolute beginners. But great app.Version: 1.1.3

Good appVery easy to use! I am learning Chinese, tried online videos but this is much better! Highly recommend..Version: 1.2.0

An excellent tool - first of its kind!Great tool for learning a language, recommend to use this in conjunction with other learning resources. App runs smooth and built very well. Suggestion: show verb conjugations when tapped for the definition during the video..Version: 1.2.7

AmazingThis app is not boring and it's very useful. I wish it was free Just be careful of the automatic charge after the free trial.Version: 2.0.2

Excellent Customer ServiceThere was a glitch in their system and I was mistakenly charged. Anne from customer service looked into it for me and remedied the situation. Great customer service. Also, I used lots of language learning programs and I would put this one in my top 3 specifically for listening comprehension, this has always been the biggest challenge for me. I like that you can learn the vocab first, then watch the videos and change the speed. It’s also great for reading. There is not way to practice speaking so keep that in mind if that’s your goal..Version: 2.2.8

Love it - so useful for learning ChineseThis is the app I've been waiting for for ages. Follow along with the video, subtitles contain characters, pinyin and English, and you can tap any word for a definition (plus examples on how to use that word).Version: 1.0.9

Worked great until it didn’tI started this app with a quick review of the beginner level. When I tried to move up to the intermediate level, the course button disappeared and I was lift with only the explore button for practice. Same issue when I changed languages. After searching for answers online, I contacted the developer for assistance and had no response. I wouldn’t have started using this app if I’d known I couldn’t keep building on what I’d learned..Version: 3.0.6

Update contentI’m enjoying studying French with this app and over the past couple of years it used to add content regularly, but recently it doesn’t seem to have added any new lessons. Am I missing something?.Version: 2.1.5

Makes me excited to learn!Instead of grudgingly doing my Chinese practice daily, I actually enjoy it because this app makes it not monotonous because you can switch it up with music videos, lessons, dramas, and stories Things I like: 1 that you can flip “pages” throughout the video so you can focus on one line at a time instead of being overwhelmed with all the text at once 2 that you can click on a word and have all kinds of info about it and add it to your cards Things I really wish would change (I’m on the free trial and am deciding wether or not to cancel or continue and subscribe) Btw I’m doing Chinese 1 during the videos, I really wish there was a slider sort of thing so I could choose to cover the pinyin or the English so I could practice recognizing characters or to cover just the English to focus on Chinese, maybe to test how much I understand. Sometimes it’s hard to even see the Chinese because I see the English and then I’m really just reading the English and not focusing on the Chinese words. A movable slider to cover the English would be very beneficial 2 during the quiz questions I wish I could be tested on characters not just pinyin 3the videos will save to my playlist one day and be gone the next day...? 4 a genre filter would be nice so I could listen/watch depending on what I was in the mood for that day :).Version: 2.2.5

Great, but not to be used by itselfThis is one of the best language learning apps, I’ve come across. The videos offer you a great way to develop your listening skills. The quiz sections are nice to develop reading/writing, but the live videos help you work on your comprehension. That being said, this won’t help you master a language alone. If you have a music streaming service, find music in your target language and work on listening and translating slowly. The music helps sink it into your brain better if you’re actively listening. So, while it could always be improved, this is an excellent app.Version: 1.9.3

Needs interface upgrade for iPhone XVery good app for learning languages (I am learning Japanese). The interface needs to be updated for the iPhone X. One year on and still hasn’t been updated. Did get a full screen experience for 2-3 days however latest update went back to the black bars at the top and bottom. What is going on?.Version: 1.7.6

JohnHands down the best.Version: 2.0.1

The best way to fill comprehension gaps!I was dreading having to watch subtitled German films with remote in hand and dictionary in the other and these guys have organised it so look up is quick and the background info is great! Well done!.Version: 1.0.9

GREAT FOR LEARNING SPANISHI started using it as the free trial and I already see progress in my Spanish vocabulary there’s so many videos and lessons to learn and chose from I really love it! I’m considering to buy the monthly plan but 40 dollars a month is a lot. I’d love to invest in this app because I do believe it will teach me Spanish but maybe lowering the price to 20 a month would help a lot of people to learn a language.Version: 1.9.6

Landscape orientationI love it so far (it’s been a day) but this isn’t a real iPad app as it only works vertically. Many of us use iPads with a keyboard and indeed want to type answers with a keyboard. I’ve invested a lot of time in learning to type Hangul and it’s really the only way to type in the text answers. I’ve developed apps and developing a landscape orientation while not changing anything else is a trivial endeavor. It’s a real dealbreaker so please invest in this..Version: 1.8.4

More languages please?I’m trying to become more fluent in Arabic, but it’s hard when I live in an English speaking country and most of the apps only teach me how to say hello and ask for the bathroom. I want to be able to have casual conversations with a native speaker without any language barriers and I feel as though this app would be perfect for such. Only one problem, Arabic isn’t an option. It would be great if this app had a wider variety of languages to learn. Other than that, it was fun messing around and learning a few Spanish words, I would definitely recommend this app to anyone trying to learn a second language..Version: 1.8.8

App reviewThis app is really good and I hope you enjoy it you can chose what language you want to learn I am learning Spanish because I have a friend that speaks that 5/5.Version: 2.4.9

FantasticWonderful app, easily the best I’ve ever used to study a language. Would love to see Thai and Welsh added in the future but otherwise no complaints..Version: 2.2.4

As describedThis app does what it says on the tin. Can’t say better than that..Version: 2.2.4

Charged Immediately for free trialLike other reviewers, I was charged immediately for a free trial. I understand sometimes people struggle to cancel their subscriptions before the paid version renews.. but I was simply charged before my free trial period even started. I have contacted support for help and will update this review if help is received..Version: 2.2.6

One of the best language learning appsI’ve used many language learning apps over time, this is definitely by far the most comprehensive and interactive apps. Makes remembering and absorbing the information more natural and interesting..Version: 2.2.2

Great Customer ServiceSometimes, life overtakes our best intentions and that includes our plans to make good use of an App which shows so much promise that we put it on annual Auto-Pay. Circumstances forced me to spend my year’s days in much different ways and I didn’t realize a FluentU year had gone by until $144 showed up as a credit card charge. I asked customer service if I could pay for just a month and get a refund for the rest of the year. They promptly set my account to the free version and refunded the entire annual fee of $144. Aiza B. from the “FluentU Customer Happiness TEAM” was gracious in email exchanges and made me feel very confident in recommending FluentU..Version: 2.1.8

ChallengingThe quizzes really make you prove you understand words and phrases by putting them in other contexts. I studied Spanish academically for 7 years, have visited Spanish-speaking countries, and have studied an additional 1.5 years simply out of desire to truly become fluent. For that you really need to be immersed and speak it every day with those around you. No app can provide that, but FluentU does a fantastic job exposing you to that language as it is spoken in its normal cadence and rhythm. Learning Spanish this way is something I wish I’d been able to do from the beginning; it wouldn’t have taken me so long to get where I am. Watch the videos. Don’t worry that it might seem impossibly hard. If you don’t fail sometimes, you won’t improve. Keep it up, and you’ll see incredible progress..Version: 1.9.3

Very easy and useful app! What a great app to learn from! Currently using this to learn mandarin. So far so good. The audio is very clear and there's good learning programs to reinforce my learning. Good to know there's different levels too. I'm a newbie :).Version: 1.1.0

Really thorough trainingI love the teaching method in this, it's very engaging and super helpful hearing words and phrases in different contexts to learn them completely. My one complaint is that when you get something right, a big green circle shows up to congratulate you but it covers up the sentences that I'm trying to re-read. Not that big a deal, but just the sentence highlighted in green to say it's correct would be enough for me. Thanks FluentU for this epic language learning app!!!.Version: 1.9.6

It needs more social featuresThe content is amazing. Like leaderboards… it needs to be a bit more like Duolingo..Version: 3.3.6

Please add Croatian!!While I know Croatian isn’t a widely spoken language it is also spoken in the neighbouring countries around it. Please add Croatian!!!!.Version: 2.5.1

Very useful resourceEven as a newbie level user, I find this app very effective. The drills are a good daily practice and the video features are excellent study tools, especially as where I live there are not so many Spanish speakers..Version: 1.2.7

Great app but i think moving in a bad directionThis app is amazing, theres a lot of content and i love the ready to review feature (which automatically updates all the time so you dont have to keep track on what needs reviewing yourself, which would be really hard if you’ve got 3000 + words that youve learnt) Anyway all that aside my gripe is that the recent patch added the feature of choosing between knowing all the letters that goes into the word you need to choose (block letters), or just knowing how many letters there are in the word. (Little lines come up for each letter, like in a hangman game). I feel like making the questions easier to answer does a disservice to the people who want to study a language seriously. The major update before this one included the hints 1 and 2 and 3, but the good thing about that one is it gave the option of not asking for the hints at all, for the people who didnt want extra help with the questions. Id love to see that incorporated in this update as well, for people who dont want the lines, but i was told via email by Aiza that we wouldnt be expecting it anytime soon. Anyway, its still a great app, just thought my request for this update might be taken more seriously on the review page. Thanks heaps for the app though fluentu team, its still great :).Version: 2.3.0
