Learning my 3rd LanguageI am a language teacher (ESL) and so when I decided I wanted to learn Japanese! As my 3rd language I decided I would like to have an app so I can practice whenever I happen to have a free moment. I downloaded about 6 or so apps and THIS app was the only one I kept because it teaches you the language through all 4 domains of language acquisition! (Listening, reading, writing, and speaking of you repeat what you hear and read out loud). It’s great! I happily paid the $6 to get the full version the first day I downloaded it!.Version: 1.1.7

This is great wow!I watch a decent amount of anime and was wanting to learn Japanese recently, so downloaded all the free apps. Out of the four only 2 were worth while, and out of the 2 only one was worth paying for. And this one is definitely worth it. With simple reminders and review, this repetition focused app really drills japanese naturally. I'm learnjng at a fast rate and surprising all my friends. Anyways I love it and thought I should write a review when the little "like our app" button came up..Version: 1.1.4

Really goodGreat very cheap I learned fast :).Version: 1.1.7

Can't access this appI bought this app ,deleted it accidentally, tried to reinstall it and it won’t let me pass after the second lessons. I really like this app and wish I could access the entire lesson. I don't know what else to do to gsin access again. it’s telling me it’s not connected to iTunes. What! Help!.Version: 1.1.7

Top pickI downloaded a number of Japanese apps before our trip to Tokyo. This is definitely one of the best. The app is split into two levels (hopefully with more to come?) and each level is split into bite-sized chunks of information, including the hiragana/katakana alphabet, vocabulary, reading, writing and grammar. Even my kids could use this one. After coming back from Japan, I deleted and reloaded the app as a refresher/review, and found that new information had been added (that, or I just completely forgot some sections). Anyway, this is a quality app that is worth buying. I wish there were more levels..Version: 1.1.7

The best app I’ve found for learning Japanese so farI tried the free lessons, and found them really useful. I like the format, it’s working for me. Lots of repetition, you study at your own pace and they pop in the odd bit from other lessons to keep you focused. I purchased all of the lessons, the price is a bargain compared to other language apps. The lessons make sense in terms of structure, whereas other apps don’t for me. Really enjoyable so far..Version: 1.1.7

One of the bestI’ve tried several different learning apps I like how this one started with making sentences, letting me practice with particles right away, and even explaining their positioning! Many other make you practice sentences but start with big sentences instead of simple ones like we learn as children! A much simpler and accurate way of learning 5 stars to the developers and linguists behind this app! Sugoi and arigatou!.Version: 1.1.7

Use of dead timeIdeal to tap on one of the short lessons and revise your Kana or Kanji when e.g standing in a que. The revision time all adds up..Version: 1.1.7

I love it!!This app is so amazing and easy to learn with! I’ve learned the basics of the language in just a few short days! This app allows you to learn at your own pace while doing so very effectively. To unlock all the lessons you do have to pay, but it is so worth it!! For all of the lessons it’s only $5.99!!.Version: 1.1.7

Good and serviceableAt US$5.99, I feel that the premium is well worth it. There are barely enough kanji (though I would REALLY like to see more added) to satiate a beginner, and I appreciate that there are some verbs in the app. Even some of the larger and more popular apps lack the kanji that this one has, and this app teaches stroke order. That is INVALUABLE when using a kanji dictionary, so props to this app. Again, I would really like to see an update with more kanji, but other than that, don’t change the app!!!.Version: 1.1.7

Thanks!Great app! I have also the app for kana and kanji and they are well design. You should add in the Kana app the custom review like in the kanji app, it’s nice to choose what we want to practice. In this app you put a little review of the last chapter inside the current chapter i find it great, you should put it in the kana and kanji app too. The downside of this app is that you have to be really precise when you draw the kanji/ kana, it’s sometime frustrating because the finger is not precise like a pen. The 2 others app are more permissive . Thanks great work!.Version: 1.1.7

Great!I really love this app! I feel like I’m learning much faster, as well as retaining information better than other Japanese learning apps. The only thing I would really love to see this app change is to add the ability review learned information at will..Version: 1.1.7

Thaïs 5stars for the first versionThe 1st version had no romanji ; Only English Kana & Kanji . No way am I going to update it This new is very good but in options section it would be nice to make the romanji go away: by pressing l select Older version have you reading japanese from the very beginning.Version: 1.1.7

GoodIts a decent app! Wish they would give the option to switch between handwritten and a clean standard font for the japanese tho..Version: 1.1.7

LOVE. THIS. APP!Update - love that this app now also includes kanji characters! For casual learners - you can choose to avoid the kanji and just learn to speak and not read. Great additional feature! I've completed 4 lessons so far, and I'm thrilled by what I am learning and retaining. I love that it uses pictures and sound to appeal to different learning styles. And it seems to have a smart review system that adjusts based on how you are doing. Definitely worth the purchase, and it's an AMAZING value y to something like Rosetta Stone. Excited to keep using this app!!.Version: 1.1.4

Making good progress with this appI think this app is well worth the money. I particularly like the way the lessons are structured. Lots of repetition..Version: 1.1.7

Has made us want to learn JapaneseI am using this with my daughter who wanted to learn French and Japanese. After trying the developer's other free trial app teaching Japanese character reading and writing, I saw this one that teaches words as well and let's just say that I decided to buy the full version and my daughter enjoys it so much that she decided to learn Japanese. I like that it incorporates reading, writing, and picture flash cards all together in bite sized lessons. And gives you reminders when it is time to review certain flashcards. And it actually works. We can now pick out characters when we are reading Japanese subtitles which makes you look forward to the next lesson..Version: 1.1.7

WOW! Fastest improvement I’ve had.I have tried other apps like Duolingo and some others but this one has been the most successful at keeping my improvement constant. I love the constants reviews they throw at you when learning every new lesson. I love how it makes sure you master everything until it proceeds you to the next lesson. 5/5 for sure..Version: 1.1.7

Would chose this over Duolingo, butSo this was like the BIGGEST disappointment for me, because I thought ‘wow! I have finally found an app that not only teaches how to write and read, but also to speak Japanese!’ But after the first three lessens I said that you had to pay. I know this isn’t such a big deal but still, I am really disappointed. Update: I bought it this app is amazing! And I wouldn’t chose duo over this anyway because the first three free lessons taught me more than six lessons on Duolingo.ありがとう! (It means thank you I think).Version: 1.1.7

NiceNo mistakes in the writing and I love it.Version: 1.1.7

Love this app!I’m a bit of a language nerd and have always wanted to learn Japanese. The problem I’ve encountered with a lot of other programs is they focus solely on basic spoken vocabulary, or only show pictures of the hirigana/kanji so you can’t learn how to write the characters or understand sentence structure. This app does an amazing job at building your understanding of hirigana, kana and kanji by making you actually write the correct strokes, while also teaching basic vocabulary and sentence structure. Highly recommend for anyone who needs to learn a new language by doing, and not just selecting pictures!.Version: 1.1.7

I am choosing this over Duolingo (updated version). This is a great tool for learning. You can go at your own pace (no matter how fast or slow it is) and even if you go a little too far out, the app has milestone reviews that let you practice the things you didn’t do so well at in the last review. It builds on itself and I like how you get an in depth look at the alphabets (duolingo was always useless with Kanji) by allowing practice writing them. This app also explains the grammar in little card blurbs, and it would be perfect if there was a list or something compiled of the different lessons, for a review. All in all, 10/10. Never change <3.Version: 1.1.7

Hey, don’t get duolingo get this!!There are practically no ads No times where it says you can come back later to learn more And best of all, it teaches you well. Would highly recommend this app!.Version: 1.1.7

Best App For BeginnersPlease make more levels! This is the most effective and efficient app I’ve used to learn beginner Japanese. All the other ones start too advanced and don’t explain grammar rules as extensively as this app. I’ve purchased a total of 5 different apps/softwares and this one is by far the best at explaining everything when you are ready to learn it. Memrise & Busuu jump way too far ahead without explaining anything—and on top of that they’re $40/70 per year! Whereas this one is a flat rate of $8 or $9. Well worth every cent I paid. Thank you guys so much! :) Looking forward to new levels to purchase..Version: 1.1.7

Great app overall, crashes occasionallyOverall I have really enjoyed my time with this app thus far - I’m retaining information better than I was with Duolingo. The review features and learning patterns work well for me. The writing portion is okay, but as others have said it can be a little frustrating. Writing the kana still helps me retain them better, but this feature needs a bit of work. The app does crash on occasion - not nearly enough to be a big issue, but it’s a minor annoyance. 4 stars for now, 5 if these issues are fixed down the road!.Version: 1.1.7

Great! Just one thingI love this app and it helped me so much while learning Japanese. They only issue I had was with the pictures. They can be helpful, but they also provide an answer key to some questions. Instead of learning from the questions I can just look at the images and get the answer..Version: 1.1.7

Very helpfulIHave only just started but the lessons are easy to follow there is constant reviews and I can keep going back over and over again. The repetitiveness is helpful and breaking them down into understandable lessons is very good. It gives you visual Prompts and audio onesSo no matter how you prefer to learn it can help with that..Version: 1.1.7

Great app but..I honestly really enjoy the app! It's a great tool and I'm learning way faster than I thought I would! Japanese is a pretty complex language and the visual cues help a lot. The only downside I'm finding in the app is when you are learning to write some of the more complex letters. The sensitivity is off and no matter how careful I am when writing them, it always resets as though I've made a mistake, and I know how to draw a square so I'm pretty sure it's not me..Version: 1.1.5

Pretty goodNice clean interface Very simplistic I like it. No recent updates however, probably wont see any new content :/.Version: 1.1.7

AwesomeDefinitely the best app I’ve used so far to learn Japanese. You don’t feel rushed and it won’t make you feel bad for getting the answers wrong like the other apps with point systems and sections for words you get frequently wrong.Version: 1.1.7

Love it😝Juj.Version: 1.1.7

Great for novice beginnersI am terrible at learning languages but this app makes it easy. I started with duo lingo which was good up to a point. This app explains the grammar behind what you are doing and presents it in a way that is organized so you don't get things mixed up later on. The pacing is excellent. The app does sometimes close out on itself which can be slightly annoying but it's still worth it..Version: 1.1.7

Super funI like learning in general, so I am loving this app. They way things are subtly scaled up is challenging, but so satisfying! I am SO proud of myself when I get the questions right, and I find myself sounding out words in Japanese (hiragana and kanji) already after a few lessons! I am enjoying this more than I thought I would!.Version: 1.1.7

Great App! Just a small bugI’ve been using this app for a while to learn the basics, and it has helped me A LOT! Well worth the 6$. There is only one problem I see though. Every time I try to go to Level 2 Lesson 14: Kanji, it crashes. I understand this is a small bug, but I hope you all can fix it fast so that I can keep using your app for practice and review..Version: 1.1.7

Great & good valueI really like the simple progression and spaced repetition. The writing practice is great to as I really need that. As for some people complaining about price???? $10 Australian is pretty good value for the amount you will learn & it’s about the same price as 2 cups of coffee or 1 burger. I also like that there is no stupid speed limits like some other apps where you can’t progress unless you do it fast enough (I have a movement disorder which means other apps I wasted money on as they required time limits for tests so I can’t progress) but this app is at my own pace. Some things I would like to see improved for 5 stars - 1) both brush and pen font practice. At the moment it’s only brush style font which is different to how most people write with a pen & a lot of modern signage. 2) it’s using the low quality robotic sounding Japanese voice, please find someway to activate the higher quality Siri voice for those that have already downloaded it. 3) looks like the app hasn’t been updated in a very very long time. But would be great if we could buy more levels..Version: 1.1.7

It’s 2:30 in the morning lolThis is my first time even putting effort into learning any language other than English, honestly I love this app. I wasted a lot of my money but it was worth it lol. I just got this app like an hour ago and I can almost say a few full sentences with out looking at my notes sheet. For the people who are reading this who want to get this app, it’s worth it, but I highly suggest you write lots of notes because the lessons go by fast!.Version: 1.1.7

AlrightNot bad just can’t seem yo right I refreshed my phone app acting a little weird pls just a reminder this app is only kana so if u wanted to learn kanji sorry but overall it okay but glitches like crazy some times barely happens though so overall I rate it a 4 a asked for a update a little over 1year ago app is old any waypls update. It’s bin a year since other comment thought I would update y’all it’s still super weird and glitches a-lout more so pls do not download Give it a 1 star sorry to glitchy but overall it’s not to shabby so I’m changing it to a 3still don’t recommend.Version: 1.1.7

AmazingSeriously love this app. I've tried a few, even Duolingo, and this I the best. I actually learn from this app and can go back and read the sentences from Duolingo that I didn't get before (since they just through them on you). Definitely recommend..Version: 1.1.4

Better than Rosetta StoneThis app is similar to Rosetta Stone’s approach to teaching, but better in that it gives help via translations at the beginning and then weans you off by the end of each lesson. This app is great for learners of all ages, but what I appreciate is that even kids as young as 5 or 6 can use this and learn! That is not the case with Rosetta Stone. I am very happy with my purchase!.Version: 1.1.7

Best I have foundI like this one better than duolingo because you can learn to write with this app. Also duolingo has bugs and the new subscription model will end up costing much more than this app in the long run..Version: 1.1.4

Great approach to learning Japanese!I like how this app combines learning vocabulary, hiragana, and kanji all at once rather than sequentially or separately. The sequencing of the tasks is really working for me to learn the material presented. The only part missing is learning to write kana and kanji yourself but I’ll have to use other apps for that. Overall, great app!.Version: 1.1.7

Better than the restOK I’m new to this app so I don’t know about all the issues that might come along later but I’ve been using it for about three weeks and so far so good I have no complaints..Version: 1.1.7

Great, but there’s a glitch on my end.I thoroughly enjoy this app, and it’s really helped me through its free courses. The only thing is that the application is not allowing me to buy “Level One”. I click the button, but there is no response. I have the money for it, but it simply doesn’t work. That would be my only complaint. Otherwise, this platform is great..Version: 1.1.7

Awesome App to learn Japanese!I absolutely love this app. I originally got this because I saw this was by the same developer as “Learn Japanese!!” and “Learn Japanese! - Kanji”. Both of those apps I bought and loved how easy it was to learn from so I decided to try this and I definitely wasn’t disappointed. It has such an easy way to teach you Japanese quickly. The only thing I wish this app had was a review button like the other two have. I know it does review it but I prefer the way the other two apps do it. Also I would like if they add more lessons to this app since the interface is so easy to use and learn from even if I had to pay a little bit extra for them..Version: 1.1.7

Best app to learn JapaneseI absolutely love this app. It is very well thought out and teaches you quickly. I really like that it integrates vocabulary and syntax as well as kana and kanji from the start (instead of starting out in romaji, which is a huge mistake I made years ago). It gets you quite far so quickly. I have never come across a language learning method so efficient. I wish it existed for other languages like Korean. I think it’s brilliant. Highly recommend if you want to quickly get up to speed in Japanese..Version: 1.1.7

Decent learning toolIt’s definitely helping me learn Japanese, though some of the bugs others mentioned remain... I noticed that the longer I am on it, the more likely it will act as if I’m tracing the kanji wrong and reset constantly, even when I’m only on the first stroke. Once in a while it will freeze and bug out entirely, usually ending in a crash of the app itself. A reboot (of the app) fixes it, though, so it’s not a huge problem, just a bit frustrating. I do like the way it provides reviews as you progress, but one thing I thought would be nice would be a review option of the grammar in particular, not just the kanji/words, but also the explanations and uses—the same info it provides when first introduced, just easily accessible..Version: 1.1.7

Very helpful for learning Japanese.I have used several apps to work on learning Japanese, and I have been impressed with Learn Japanese!! in several ways. The way this app teaches hirigana writing is well thought-out. The sequencing is a nice, building progression and the drawing recognition is impressive. The app uses little quizzes to review past lessons which I found very helpful. A typical vocabulary lesson introduces four words and may include one new grammar rule. It has you build sentences, which are useful for remembering the vocabulary. The improvements I would make to have a 5-Star rating would be adding a reference card for vocabulary and kana. And the feedback form (nicely incorporated in the settings) doesn’t work on an iPhone. (The send button is covered by the keyboard)..Version: 1.1.7

I swear by this appI never do reviews for apps. However, for this one, I will make an acception. I recently got into the Middlebury Language program for Japanese and needed some pre-knowledge. I have learned ALL my hiragana and katakana and even most of my kanji through this app. I have tried (I kid you not) every other app available for Japanese learning and this one is undeniably the best..Version: 1.1.7

Amazing and very user friendly!Everything you could want and need in an app to learn a language - perfect! Thank you! :).Version: 1.1.7

JapaneseI’ve wanted to learn Japanese for the longest time... I HIGHLY recommend this app, if you do each section 2-3 times then it sticks in your head. The review feature is really handy as you could be far ahead into the section but it still gives you questions that you learnt earlier on. 5/5 please download..Version: 1.1.7

Could Be GreatI started out really liking this app. Now I can’t get past the Kanji for ‘man’ no matter how many times I try. I can’t skip it either. I’ll check back later, but for now, with the writing part so buggy, I’ll try a different app. ** Edit - The recent update fixed the problem with the writing practice. This app effectively combines seeing, hearing, and writing to make learning more effective. I really appreciate the developer staying in tune with the reviews and resolving problems that come up. Highly recommend!.Version: 1.1.7

Very accessible bite-sized lessons!Learning Japanese is hard for me to make time for, so this app is great since I can do a short lesson or two in between work or anything else, and then later if I open the app again it asks me if I would like to review anything I had trouble with, and I can practice until I get it right! Buying the lessons one pack at a time or even both packs level 1 and 2 are for really good prices and I think it’s totally worth it!.Version: 1.1.7

Amazingly Helpful with persistenceThis App has helped me leaps and bounds studying the Japanese language. It’s consistent with reviewing you and the hints for grammar are greatly valuable. If I could add one suggestion. It would be very helpful if the app developer also added the hints as a separate category, so that they can be referenced whenever you like. ありがとうございます.Version: 1.1.7

Great for learning Japanese!I got this because I wanted to learn Japanese out of fascination and it’s very helpful but here’s the problem, I can’t buy the purchase all lessons thing because it’s too expensive can you please make it free?.Version: 1.1.7
