Learn Japanese! - Kanji for Positive User Reviews

FantasticThis app is fantastic. I’ve just started learning kanji, and there is nothing I would want to change about this app. It takes you through each character in excellently thought-through steps: first you write with green and red dots guiding you. Then you trace on the character, but without the dots telling you which lines to write first. Then you have a blank screen and write the whole character, in the correct way, from memory (but with the option of asking for a hint if you can’t remember). There is also the option of choosing certain characters, and just practising those characters. This is good if there are just one or two characters in a lesson that you find hard, and want to spend extra time focusing solely on those characters. The only problem I found was that sometimes after writing a character, the screen seems to stick, and doesn’t give me the option of moving forward. But if you just tap the screen once to make an extra white dot on the screen, it fixes the problem and you can move forward. Highly recommend this app. I’ve learnt about 30 kanji in a day. It is very enjoyable so it’s hard not to want to keep moving on to the next lesson..Version: 1.3.25

Honestly...This app is the ultimate game-changer... Especially with the most recent update. I love this app..Version: 1.4.34

My reviewIt has a reasonable price for what you get, but I feel the manner of teaching kanji can be improved, Is better as say a dictionary for kanji than actually learning them I’ve been writing them down on paper to memorize them and it’s been way more effective, but I have been using the app to find kanjis to learn.Version: 1.5.4

Fantastic app but…Truly a great app and has helped me improve at kanji dramatically (especially with stroke order and compound words). It’s the best of its kind out there. However, there’s a major bug that don’t allow you full mastery of some kanji you’ve previously learned. Certain kanji will fail you 90% of the time, no matter how neatly or carefully you write it. This means they constantly get cycled into the review and (most importantly!) can never achieve that sweet, sweet, green color to show you’ve mastered it. The two I’ve noticed so far are 青 (final stroke often fails) and 内 (second stroke almost always fails). Not the most difficult kanji, so the error isn’t mine! Have already sent feedback to the creator through the app, but heard nothing back. They seem to respond to reviews though, so I hope they see this! Love the app! Hope to finally master those kanji soon!.Version: 1.4.35

ExcellentWorth spending to get full access. Great app.Version: 1.0.12

Great App but currently not working for meI have been using this App to learn Kanji but recently have been having problems with it. I am getting an error when reviewing or learning new words were the kanji in the top portion of the screen is no appearing. The answers to choose from are appearing but the the actual word/Kanji is not. Please fix if possible. I am on an iPhone 6s, iOS 15.5. Update: I appreciate the developer’s response. The app really simplifies the kanji learning process and it allows the user to become familiar with stroke order. Overall, a great app..Version: 1.5.0

Very good for studyReally like this app, wish it had an option to clear and repeat drawing a kanji character after you complete it correctly (hint or not). Implementing a “cram mode” repetitive study mode like the cram flash card website uses would be awesome..Version: 1.5.11

Updated review! After episodes of crashing, app is working fantastically. I really enjoy learning through this app. Thanks. :D.Version: 1.3.25

Good but now it’s crashing!!The app has working well for me without any crashes since I got it last year...up until the most recent update. Now when I open the app and try to review my past kanji, the app immediately closes. I was just starting to learn the N2 kanji so I would really hope for this to be fixed as this really is a great app! Would love to give this 5 stars!!.Version: 1.3.25

Great appI love the interface, and this makes kanji learning so much easier. I love how similar looking kanji are grouped together to help you differentiate them. I just wish there were grammar lessons too like there is for the hiragana learning app because I know it would be really helpful to put this learned kanji into practice!.Version: 1.5.11

Promising! For a total beginner like me, it would be helpful to explain why there were two kinds of symbols. Also, it would be useful to go back and restart a lesson. I hit okay a few times accidentally!.Version: 1.0.1

Effective way to learn kanji that’s worth the money!I normally don’t write reviews or even buy phone apps, but I’m so impressed at the effectiveness of this kanji app. I’ve tried other kanji apps and found them to be way too complicated to use that I wasn’t motivated to study with them every day. This app really just gets to the point with reading, writing, and understanding the meaning of a word, and I can quickly use this to review words I’ve gone over in the app. It’s a very simple interface, but this flashcard style of learning works way better than anything else I’ve ever used. The way the words are grouped is very effective for learning too, with lessons in chunks of 4 words. The improvement in my Japanese comprehension has been night and day since starting this app, and I can’t wait to finish all the lessons in this app. This is such a daily staple to my daily routine now and I look forward to reviewing and learning new lessons every day. With any small app, there are slight bugs with pronunciation in some words and there are features I think could improve the app. However, the developer is very responsive to messages, so I’m glad I invested in this app knowing it’ll be well-maintained. Thank you!.Version: 1.3.26

Perfect for learningThe app helps you learn kanji by writing it over and over, there’s also a button where you can view all of the kanji, click on one and practice writing over and over. It teaches Onyomi and Kunyomi as well as giving the meanings to each kanji like ‘上’ means ‘over, above.’ By far the best app I tried for kanji, the other ones offer a month for learning (this ones permanent) or don’t teach nearly as much kanji, the price is really worth it (1700+ kanji and over 1000 lessons) teaches you how to put kanji together to form new words (as said before, Onyomi.) The other app that LLC made taught the kana and I still remember it, there way of teaching and formatting is amazing although simplistic and how they teach gets ingrained in memory..Version: 1.4.20

Devs please readPLEASE add a “this was not a mistake” button because the amount of times I’ve written the kanji the correct way and I have to re-do it because your system doesn’t like it for some reason… happens to EVERY kanji to the point where there is literally no point me reviewing anything.. it’s more beneficial for me to learn it, then write it down on paper as a review. I dunno if it doesn’t like my apple pen or something but I’ll write it the same way and it be wrong once then be fine next even though the stroke order hasn’t changed.. please fix this by adding at least a skip button...Version: 1.5.15

This app is fantastic!I’m a relatively novice Japanese language student, so I can’t comment to the tiny inaccuracies that may or may not be present. But as far as an app that does exactly what it’s supposed to do, with minimal frills, no asking for ratings on App Store every two seconds — this app is top notch and a pleasure to use!! I really appreciate the technique it uses in teaching and drilling the Kanji into memory. I come back to this app several times a day and review in tiny, 2 minute bites. Thank you so much for this app!.Version: 1.5.16

Updated review ... it’s nice. Most of the reviews are talking about a previous version of the app so I thought I would do an up-to-date version. The app is really enjoyable and splits up kanji into difficulty via the N5 - N1 system and also teaches correct stroke order (which I know is important but annoys me to hell sometimes!!). The handwriting can sometimes be sensitive, so try and replicate it exactly as you remember - Also, they don’t teach you alternate readings on the kanji ( no kunyomi, onyomi thing, just one) so read up elsewhere if you do wanna know other readings. I do really love it and it’s one of the best for pure kanji learning currently available!!.Version: 1.3.21

I normally have trouble sticking with kanji apps but...I’ve been using this for probably close to a year now, and it’s really helped with reading comprehension. I paid the money to unlock all the lessons and it’s totally worth it. There’s so much to learn and it’s so easy to do on the go. I’ve looked for a long time for a kanji app that’s a) more for the casual user (doesn’t send me a million updates/emails, but when you open the app it marks what you need to review; and b) actually makes kanji flash cards work. It teaches you the meanings of the radicals in English to build a foundation, leads you to connect them with the hiragana then kanji. Plus it has a dictionary with a search function, which is easy to use. Super cool program I’m really glad I have it. Even more happy after the update, because now it also looks really nice lol.Version: 1.1.1

This app is greatI'm actually learning Kanji with this app, from not knowing any to knowing several hundred. I'm self teaching Japanese and have found for my own learning style that knowing the Kanji helps me quite a bit vs just learning the word sounds. If you're trying to self teach, this app is best combined with learning the radicals. So I look up every word and Kanji on Jisho. I also combine it with other apps to learn grammar. I run through the practice several times a day and try to learn 1-2 new Kanji every day..Version: 1.4.35

Best app ever!I’ve been trying to learn kanji by slogging through Remembering the Kanji and using the Japanese app for stroke order, but what I really want to learn is how to read and write _words_. This app teaches that! It’s wonderful! I’m starting to be able to read a little. If you don’t know the joyo kanji, you’re functionally illiterate (I hate being illiterate). This app teaches the joyo kanji and thousands more. I have it on my phone and on my tablet, and they’re not synced, so I get lots of practice and review. $10 is the bargain of the century. Get this app! Update: Every day when I use this app, I think, “This app is so great!” So I just want to say I’m still loving the app..Version: 1.3.21

MoneyIt’s such a good app with loads of lessons you can play back and memorise again but there is one issue for me. You have to pay for the lessons. Many people won’t mind this but for over 200+ lessons I don’t really want to pay £10 for all of them. I’m sure it’s worth it but I don’t want to spend the money on it..Version: 1.5.4

Good! I hope new features and bug fixes will be addedThis is really good at getting you to actually write kanji and learn their different readings unlike Duolingo where you mostly go in blind. The way the lessons are structured also help you see patterns on stroke order for larger and more complex kanji, so it’s a great way of easing you into something that seems daunting. However there are a few bugs with strokes not registering. The interface is really simple which is a good thing, but better features could be added, such as images to help associate words with meaning rather than the direct translation. I think that is an aspect Duolingo does slightly better in.Version: 1.4.35

AmazingI’m actually learning a language for once this ap makes it 10 times easier to learn and there are tons of lesson. £8.99 is a small price to pay to learn a language.Version: 1.4.35

Really good for memorisationThough if I could suggest a change it would be to have a button to only review the Kanji from N5 or N4 and so on without mixing them. When I would try to revise Kanji from N5 it would include some from N4 because the same characters were included in both. Though it would be nice if you could choose to specifically revise the kanji from the lessons from each N.Version: 1.4.35

Learning quicklyWhen I first got in the app I saw how well it was and it really wanted me to remember the number 🥳🥳🥳🥳👍👍👍👍 this is a must have.Version: 1.5.0

Better than sliced breadSimply life changing! Definitely worth the cash money! X.Version: 1.3.33

Excellent app but...Great app to learn and reinforce learning but I do have a problem writing some characters such as (笑) which just isn’t registering. Other than that awesome app.Version: 1.4.35

Very best app for learning KanjiThis app is amazing, it is everything that I could have asked for in learning Kanji. I have purchased books, but staring at white sheets of paper and dealing with erasing and mistakes is quite annoying. Besides that, who wants to carry around drawing books to work or wherever else. This app is perfect because now you can learn to draw the Kanji and it makes you review previous lessons so you don’t forget. It’s on your phone so there are no drawbacks of portability, erasing, or buying new paper, plus you can take it anywhere with you and practice on the train, uber, or anywhere else. This is a very well put together app and the perfect tool for learning on the fly. The only problem that I can point out is that the pronunciations are inaccurate computerized readings. They should probably work on that..Version: 1.3.2

Good devDev fixed a bug that I sent feedback about.Version: 1.5.8

I couldn’t imagine a better app for learning Kanji.Seriously. This app is extremely good. I bought it when it was on sale for 40% off, and man, one of my best purchases. I’m not super far yet, still on the N5 Kanji, but it applies such an effective method of learning to how you approach each kanji. It teaches you how to read, write, identify amongst others, etc. and it tests you very effectively in the form of personalized reviews. I HIGHLY recommend this app for anyone wanting to learn kanji! Also, it doesn’t teach you kanji alone, but the actual vocabulary words in dictionary form! Massive!.Version: 1.3.25

CrashingIt’s a really good app for learning kanji. It really helped alot especially with the review they provide. The only problem for me is that it crashes everytime I open it after reinstalling the app. Please fix it..Version: 1.5.17

Really useful but...I’m only on N5 yet there seem to be some kanji that are missing audio/text files?? For example, 月 父 母. Hopefully you guys can get this fixed maybe? Asides from that, this app is super useful!.Version: 1.4.35

Good flash card appI've tried a few Kanji apps but this one suits me well for learning a few kanji at a time and then drilling on recognising the kanji and its first basic meaning. More meanings (compound forms) and pronunciations are then dovetailed in as you progress and most of the lessons include an oral pronunciation as well (you can switch it to silent). It doesn't deal with stroke order so if that is what you need then try something else. The lessons are split into groups of about 4-5 kanji at a time so you can easily do a lesson on the move like on your commute or coffee break. The only thing I'd like to see in a future version is the ability to reset a lesson so you can start it from scratch if you haven't been on the app for a while..Version: 1.0.9

Fun but kind of restricting and repetitiveI wish there were more options to make it feel less repetitive. It would be nice to have different activities in the lesson other than flash cards. The only way you can do reviews is if you press [Review Everything] or [Review Past Due]. You can redo the lesson again but it’s gets tiring spamming okay when it reintroduces the kanji again. I think you should make a feature that gives you the control of choosing a couple lessons and do a review at the same time like a [Review Selected] button. Another feature you should add is a kanji tree in that shows you how much kanji there is to learn in the each level. Also maybe some more color options, just for some variety? Maybe modernize the look of the interface and speed up the animation for switching kanji so that you can be more efficient? At this point I’m just throwing suggestions at you. Good app overall.Version: 1.3.2

Awesome!Great to use as a beginner learning kanji but also to refresh your memory, I love it..Version: 1.0.12

Very good appBut lesson 31 in JLPT N5 keeps crashing - please fix as soon as possible so I can continue, it's an enjoyable learning process and I'm learning to recognise symbols quickly and easily..Version: 1.0.10

OMGDo you know when you find an app and can’t believe how useful it is. Or better yet, find an app that’s too good to be true? That’s this app. You get a taste with lesson one on what you can expect but have to pay after at £2 per lesson or £10 in total. It’s soooo worth the money. You learn the key 2000 kanji which are used up to n1. If your looking for a key kanji learning app, this has you covered. They also teach it in quite an effective way, at least for me. You can tell that they really beloved in what they where making. I can’t express how amazing this app is. Please, do your self a favour. Download..Version: 1.4.6

Seriously a must have for learning kanjiWhile the app assumes you already know hiragana it has no other drawbacks. I’ve been using it at least once a day for the past year and my reading comprehension has improved dramatically! I use it to learn kanji and be introduced to new vocabulary, though I would stress that it’s still important to study grammar and basics and even more so to practice speaking as often as you can. But for the low price of this app it is an invaluable companion on my (and your!) journey to Japanese fluency!.Version: 1.3.21

Good app but….This app is a great idea and has been very helpful but there seem to be kanji listed as one level on Jisho dictionary but appear as a different over on here. I am currently having lessons and we are not following JLPT levels but following school grade. Not a problem, I just go in and compete the lessons relating to kanji I have done. I had to look up on Jisho 虫 and 糸 to see what JLPT level they are and they are classed as N4 but on this app they are under N2.Version: 1.4.35

Fix the issue pleaseGreat app, but the issue in jlpt5 lesson 31 needs to be fixed as I csn't continue with the lessons.Version: 1.0.10

Lesson 44 issueOverall, a great app, however Lesson 44 displays that it will teach 高校、長い、円、and 一つ, however, it instead teaches 高校、円、一つ、and 二つ. 二つ is then taught again in Lesson 45 and 長い is never taught. 長い appears to be completely missing from the application, and is not shown anywhere in the JLPT N5 list. Once this is fixed I would give the app 5 stars..Version: 1.4.35

Great way to learn, but a annoying touch calibration. The app in general is very well organized—separating Kanji by JNPT levels and starting you at level 5. You can learn Kanji quick and it has a nice menu to go back to specific Kanji and shows you which ones you need to practice more. My biggest gripe is the touch feature where you have to re-write the Kanji. The idea is great, however the touch calibration is very touchy. It works well 90% of the time, but when it has me write Kanji with hooks or small lines, I often find it has me redo it because it believes I wrote it wrong. This may just be because of my fat fingers, but if you draw a stroke 1° off it marks me wrong and has me redo it. All-in-all a great app..Version: 1.4.18

Excellent learning tool.A fantastic learning tool that allows you to learn how to read, write and understand kanji. Easy to understand and use.Version: 1.3.18

Superb app (with one small area for improvement)This is an incredibly powerful app for learning kanji - especially if you want to learn the stroke order (which is a powerful way to memorise kanji). The handwriting system is very well-programmed, so it’s easy to do with your finger on iPad/iPhone (no Apple Pencil required). The only downside is that currently, in review mode (where it picks random kanji that you have learned and quizzes you on them), you can’t choose to focus purely on handwriting - hopefully they change this in the next update. Other than that, highly recommended..Version: 1.3.21

Most effective Kanji tool in my arsenalWhat an amazing app! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more productive way to learn Kanji. I absolutely love the progression in this. Most of the time these apps throw a bunch of random popular Kanji but this one starts you off with the most basic ones and introduces Kanji that use the ones you previously learned right after. It makes tackling those really complicated Kanji a lot more manageable since now there’s context to each one. I also love that the words make you draw out the Kanji. My only real complaints are with the multiple choice questions. Most of the time the answers are dead giveaways. For example if the question was how to read 見る, only one of the options given will have る in the answer. This makes the quizzes a lot less effective. Some Kanji are also broken? Off the top of my head the one for child, 子, was invisible when used by itself. There were a few others as well. In a way it made me memorize those better since I had to lol. Aside from that, I have nothing but praise for the app. I’ve been using it extensively over the last month and see myself continuing to use it for a long time..Version: 1.5.3

Fun & intuitiveLearned the majority of my foundations for Japanese from James' other app Learn Japanese! Kana, Kanji & Grammar. This app is great so far for expanding on grammar and continuous review. Lessons are short which means during work breaks, on the train to and from work etc I can squeeze some practice in. I've not discovered what the previous reviewer said about a lack of audio, but I am only doing the N5 level at the moment..Version: 1.0.7

[Lag Bug Fix Found] Best Kanji Learning by far!I don’t normally write app reviews, but this one and its sister “Japanese!!” Are by far the best kanji learning apps I’ve ever seen. As a degree holder in Psychology, the methods this app uses to make everything stick are very sound and remind me of Anki. If you want an all-comprehensive way to get introduced to kanji, look no further, and expect rapid progress if you keep at it every day and make sure to properly review so what you did learn doesn’t leak back out. About the lag bug: if the app begins to slow down and get input lag, try completely closing the app and re-opening it. For me it started with minor pen lag and escalated as I learned more kanji, so this was a life saver. Seems like some kind of corruption builds up and that fixes it..Version: 1.4.35

Great app overall. But I have some feedbacks. This is a great app. Reasonable price. Good looking design. I am still using it right now to learn more kanji. But there are few things I think they can improve in this app. I will give my honest opinion on what I feel about this app. First, there is no way to multiple select in custom review (If there is one, I’m unable to find or use that feature on iPad Pro). Each time I want to review all the kanji I’ve learned so far, I have to click each of them. Which is very frustrating. I think the developer should add a feature where I can choose all kanji, red only, yellow only, green only, specific N level only, for the custom review. Second, I would love to have the option where I can choose the thickness of my writing. It is still ok if they don’t add this feature but I find it would be better if the developer add the option to change the writing thickness. Third, I think it would be nice to have a feature when you make a mistake on writing, it would delete the wrong stroke and give you about 2 to 3 chances before showing the hint. That is pretty much it. Overall this is a great app but it can be better..Version: 1.4.35

Really good tool for memorizing kanji and words!I love using this app because i find when i learn things they stay in my memory for longer than using other tools, and i like being able to choose which lessons to learn without following a necessary order. my only problem is how they’re organized by n5, n4, etc. a lot of words that show up in other resources as n5 words and kanji are in the n4 section of this app. i think it would be better to sort them by grade level, because the jlpt tests haven’t put out official kanji lists for years so its kind of just guesswork at this point too.Version: 1.4.35

I love the way it wasThe way this app was before this week was really great, as part of the new features now, it gives you a lot of strange words but partially include the kanji letters you know, then make the guess to get it right, which is ok in a sense you get to learn more words. However, i would say to add another possibility (besides “review everything” and “review past-due”) to only quickly review the kanji characters rather than the extensive set of vocabularies (will be very helpful if you only have small of time every day to revisit)..Version: 1.1.1

Very goodFor a beginner of Japanese, this prepped me very well for lessons. If you take lessons worth a school or another teacher, they may do things differently. However this was well worth the money even just for the hiragana and katakana learning. Simple, easy, drills that teach the stroke order and sounds. Worth it.Version: 1.3.23

Very helpful with a few odd behaviorsOverall very helpful to build up recognition of Kanji. Even if you just want to learn to read Kanji and are less concerned with handwriting the muscle memory of the exercises really helps with recognition. My gripes are honestly very small. It has a few small bugs or maybe just odd behaviors. * When I do my daily review it asks me what “何本” means every. Single. Time. Nothing else does this. It’s honestly sorta amusing to me but I’m not sure why it does it and I’m worried it’s going to start doing it with others. * It’s started using a different font about half way through my review. I actually like the new font a bit more but I can’t understand why it changes. It also could benefit from a de-bounce when answering cards. I occasionally answer one card and then get the next card wrong because my finger hasn’t completely picked up from the screen in time..Version: 1.5.6

Fantastic appThis app is fantastic for learning kanji reading and writing. I quite quickly converted to the full version as I recognised the value in the app and have no regrets. The developer is also incredibly quick to respond to any questions or issues, fantastic customer support. Highly recommend!.Version: 1.4.26

GreatI seriously believe that this is one of the best ways to learn Kanji. I’ve tried writing them over and over again, looking through definition after definition and page after page, so many Kanji I know I’ll forget the next day. But this app. This app is so good!! I learned all of the N5 Kanji very fast, but I’ve memorized all of them. I’m going to wait a bit to start N4 so I can review a bit, but I’m so excited! The app makes it fun to learn unlike many other learning apps. 10/10 definitely recommended to new learners, worth the money. Note though that it does not teach Hiragana or Katakana, you need to know those before you start :)).Version: 1.3.25

Super helpful! This has been so effective in helping me learn kanji by level. I try to do a few lessons and reviews on my commute to work and it’s stuck way better than trying to study any other way for me personally. If you use an iPhone and iPad interchangeably, it will sync your progress! Just make sure you tap restore purchase to see it :) my only request would be to have a faint grid in the background to judge character proportions when I’m writing. Major thanks to the devs for their hard work!.Version: 1.4.35

Well done!I finally found an app that I enjoy using. It fits in perfectly with my lifestyle and I can actually see the improvement. This app plus their language app make a fantastic pair. Very well made, it doesn't pester me and reviewing is becoming a breeze! Yay!!.Version: 1.0.7

Hit and Miss Writing DetectionApp is really awesome and I love it! But the writing detection could use some improvement. There are times I draw a line completely wrong and it says it is good. There are other times I can draw it just right and it gets mad and makes me start all over. Which is especially annoying because then it pops up in the review again sooner. It is also annoying as if you mess up it immediately resets and often I’m still writing so it then says I messed up again even though I knew it and then I see that kanji way more even though I messed up only once. Other than that love it and been learning a ton!.Version: 1.4.35

FacilePas rien de compliquer juste se que sa prend pour mémoriser les kana ^_^あ.Version: 1.1.5

Helpful, but be careful for mistranslations to English!I found his app very useful, helping with both pronouncing, writing and remembering Kanji. But beware, there are a number of errors throughout the lessons. For example: When teaching the Kanji for Big & Large. (I can’t put Kanji characters in apple product for this review) it simply says that both Big & Large Kanji’s are simply “Big” without clarifies and you have to double check with google when you see this happen. But other than the occasional infractions, this is a useful app for “on the tram” learning..Version: 1.3.25

My first choice for kanji writing practice!I’ve tried several apps to learn and practice *writing* kanji, and so far this one is the best overall. It is well organized, easy to use, and effective. (As a note, the app that successfully taught me my Kana was by this dev as well). The only thing that could make this app better would be the ability to make custom lessons. I have a variety of kanji that I need to learn for other learning resources, and this app is so effective at teaching that Id love a way to build my own lesson sets to fit the order taught in those other resources. In any case, I do highly recommend buying this app! It is well supported and definitely worth the price!.Version: 1.4.45

Great app to learn kanjiI am currently a college student minoring in Japanese. This app has been a phenomenal tool to get ahead in my studies and expand my vocabulary. For the money, I believe the app is absolutely worth it. There is perhaps one area that bothers me with the app and that’s that there are a couple minor oversights that should hopefully be fixed soon, as most seem to be. One example is that the verb “to furnish wish” with the reading of 「そなえる」has two different kanji, 備える and 具える, which are impossible to differentiate which the app is asking for when it has just shown the hiragana and the meaning, so you have to guess when drawing it, meaning you will often get it ‘wrong’ and have to review it several times over and over again. Beyond this, the app is great and supported by the developer. Since getting the app several kanji have become less sensitive to erroneously marking a kanji as wrong and several key quality of life changes have been implemented. A high quality experience all around..Version: 1.5.11

Amazing, amazing, amazingI was using this app while I was in Japan just to familiarise myself with some kanji and to be able to maintain basic level of Japanese however it’s become to much more than that. It teaches you how to write and reminders to review so it doesn’t just vacate your mind. Support team are also 10/10! Really, really speedy response. Thanks guys!.Version: 1.3.23

Just a few tweaks from being perfectI love this app and use it in conjunction with textbooks to learn the kanji. The writing detection is pretty good at enforcing stroke order and proportionality but will sometimes fail good kanji and accept errors. My biggest hope for the app is a function to reset selected kanji back to unlearned or favorite them so they come up more often. Additionally the app could be linked with some type of dictionary or other sites to load in examples of usage when selecting a kanji in the review spreadsheet. It would also be helpful to have a search function so one could find the kanji or vocabulary if jumping around during reviews. Still, as it stands this app is a very valuable resource!.Version: 1.4.35

So good. Best kanji practice app by farThe best.Version: 1.4.35

BugThe app keeps crashing, please fix it :) I loved learning hiragana and katakana through your other app! ありがとうございました.Version: 1.3.23

Love this app!I previously had trouble with this app crashing but have deleted and re-installed it and can report its now working fine. One of my favourite apps - thanks very much! : D.Version: 1.1.5

Great app but…It sometimes doesn’t like stroke order and doesn’t give feedback as to why you are ‘failing’ the stroke order. Let’s go with 母 and 私for example. Stroke order follows the guided strokes perfectly, but doesn’t like it when recalling solo. Makes it near on impossible to progress and very frustrating. Other than that, good app.Version: 1.4.35

KanjiExcellent pour apprendre les Kanji.Version: 1.0.12

Great study appOutstanding for learning and writing kanji as well as vocabulary words. There is a pay wall but it’s justified as the app is an all in 1 for your kanji needs. Side note, it will not open anymore. I use an Ipad and everything I launch the app, it just brings me to my home screen after a second. Any fixes?.Version: 1.5.16

Amazing and affordableThis app is so helpful and I learnt SO MANY kanjis from this app, I’m so grateful this app even exists. Should add optional background music, though, because it’s very silent and can get boring. Price is affordable; it’s only about 30 bucks to learn 2000+ kanjis (but I got a 40% discount). App uses calligraphy / handwriting font, rather than computer font which helped a lot more. Highly reccomend!.Version: 1.5.14

Kanji made easy!Very easy app to use and to revise kanji. Simple quick and being able to redo and revise any small segment anytime..Version: 1.0.12

Good butI fort this app was realy good but you haft to pey apart from paying it’s realy good and let’s you learn it shows you how to learn and leats you memories the words it’s good but can u make it so u don’t haft to pey.Version: 1.3.31

Wow!I don’t normally leave reviews, but I am loving this app. I should’ve bought this app sooner. I absolutely love how it is divided in different levels because it motivates me to keep going. Before I knew it I started recognizing kanji more when I read it. I really like that it constantly makes you review because otherwise I would forget what I learned. One thing that would make this app even better is if there was a separate custom review option for practicing writing only. Sometimes I want to just practice the stroke order. But with the current review option, writing only comes up one or two times and the rest is definitions..Version: 1.3.21

The best learning KanjiI tried many apps, and this is just the best. It teach you how to write them with the right strokes too..Version: 1.5.13

Simple but effectiveI like this app (and the matching hiragana one). No gimmicks just simple repetition..Version: 1.5.16

Love this app!By far the fastest, most effective way of learning kanji for me, the app is enjoyable to use so I find myself coming back to it several times a day and making consistent progress. Only thing I would add is a word bank or some sort of way to track how many words you’ve learned..Version: 1.5.11

Not bad... but wish it also taught handwriting/stroke order rather than just reading..Version: 1.1.5

Love this app!I love this app. I get to practise reading, writing, pronunciation and learn the different On and Kun yomi readings. It’s fun, gives plenty of reviews (which I absolutely need). I’ve noticed that my reading of Japanese stories has speeded up as I recognise the kanji much quicker and don’t have to squint so much to read the furigana. Thank you for making it. Suggestion: An app to practise putting words together to make sentences would be fun..Version: 1.5.14

GreatGreat app for learning Kanji at a solid pace, plus custom review lets you see which kanji you’re struggling with. Few bugs here and there but my only big suggestion would be some kind of written explanation of each JPLT, as well as the basics of Hirigana convictions and Kanji combinations..Version: 1.3.21

Great learning appNice large and high contrast print make seeing the details of Kanji easy, even for the visually impaired. Covers a fair amount of lessons from basics of kana to forming grammatically correct sentences. This app has been instrumental in improving my writing and reading skills..Version: 1.3.21

Very helpful appUpdated review, problem with functions not working on iPad pro solved by deleting and reinstalling the app, thanks to the developer for swift response to issues. An excellent app for reviewing kanji as you go through the levels. Interface is easy to use and introduction of writing exercises with stroke order is great.Version: 1.4.35

Great toolGreat way to learn and practice kanji on the go. Great tool.Version: 1.4.35

LeniencyMore lenient, oh yes... That’s why there are so many 漢字 that are almost guaranteed to fail. I kept failing to write 気 until I learned that you have to make a bunch of loops on the second part of the third stroke for the app to deem it correct, or it’ll fail even when it’s traced relatively well. 駅’s 10th stroke fails half the time, too, just like 空‘s 5th stroke. I can’t remember a lot of the other characters that I had problems with now that I’m a lot further into the course, but I’m writing this because of 解. It’s an abomination that seems to have an equal chance of randomly failing on the 4th, 8th, and especially the 12th strokes. The last one I don’t get at all because it’s literally a straight line... Anyway, it’s a great app in general..Version: 1.4.35

App that has great potentialThis app is easy to use for a beginner. I would love to see more advance function like having both ON and KUN pronunciation. I only have on particular problem with reviewing practice. Most of the times, I only need to review one or two words out of four but going over everything from the beginning is kinda annoying. If somehow the user could pick words from different categories that they need to review into a group or folder and review them at once. For this current format, if I have 10 words from 10 different categories, I will end up redoing 40 words, which might be good for memorizing, but going over those 30 extra words that I already knew would likely make me give up. It would be so much more efficient, and less likely to be frustrated with the repetition, if I could just select the words that I need to review..Version: 1.3.24

Feedback mattersThis a great product also recommend the hiragana one. Normally i have a hard time remembering things in this case i had issues with katakana and was learning kanji i saw advertisement from the other app and gave it a try it works well despite some glitches with the writing on some lessons luckily i was able to skip them and left some feedback explaining the broken kanji in the lesson preventing me from completing it. To my surprise the issue was fixed surprisingly quickly looking at update history i can see this happens frequently. Any developer who fixes reported bugs in a timely manner is a keeper and reaffirms that purchasing products from this developer is a wise investment.Version: 1.3.11

Great app, but has mistakes and bugs. There’s a bug in level 1, lesson 31. The app is acting like just “つ” is the correct word for both one (counter) and two (counter) when it should be “一つ” and “二つ” respectively. Once it gets to a certain part of the lesson, it asks what “つ” means (takes “two (counter)” as the correct answer), and shows the usual grid of kanji to select it from. The grid does not have a 一 or 二 character in it. Selecting another character like 三 causes the app to crash and forget progress made in level 1, lesson 31. This isn’t the only mistake I’ve found, but it is the most obtrusive so far. All in all though, this is a great app. It should only be a supplement to other sources of Kanji/Japanese language learning material, but it’s still super useful..Version: 1.3.1

This app is Amazing, but…I love this app, it is an effective way to learn how to write kanji, learn their meaning, and keep the memorized. The only problem is, the writing lessons are too lenient, to the point where you don’t even have to be relatively close to what the kanji is supposed to be written like so long as the strokes are in the right order (they can be anywhere on the writing area). I would appreciate it if this was fixed. Other than this, the app is amazing. Especially when pared with other apps like AnkiApp..Version: 1.4.35

Good but I don’t like the new updateThis and the Japanese! App have really helped me, but since the new update you have taken away it’s kanji list feature, which I really liked. It was really helpful, so maybe could you please bring it back?.Version: 1.1.2

Buggy but 100% worth itI’ll get the negative part over quickly - the app is buggy at times, sometimes crashes, sometimes doesn’t seem to register strokes correctly. However I firmly feel that this app is the best I’ve found so far for learning kanji and I don’t regret paying to unlock all the lessons, especially as it is updated very frequently and the developer seems very responsive to feedback. If I find I’m having a frustrating problem to the point it makes me not want to using the app for a while, I simply send my feedback and more likely than not there will be an update within a day that when installed fixes the problem. It may not be perfect but I honestly can’t imaging learning the volume of kanji I have so far without this app. I’m taking the JLPT N5 in December and I have no fear when it comes to any kanji on the test because of how well this app has taught me. In summary, it’s worth paying for all the lessons, and don’t get too frustrated if you encounter bugs because they’ll likely be patched out soon!.Version: 1.3.10

Love this app but it has problemsI use an Apple Pencil so not sure if it’s stemming from that, but for certain Kanji I am writing them correctly but for some reason it’s not registering as correct (specifically right now, for 母 when I try to write the dots in the center, and 学 when I try to write the 6th stroke). So it resets itself over and over and is very frustrating. Overall the app is great and I’ve really been enjoying it, I hope as I continue on there are not more issues because I think I would be too frustrated to go on. The way the reviewing is set up really helps me with recall and I’ve found my ability to recognize kanji is improving..Version: 1.4.35

Simple and easy to use.At first the app seemed a little sparse. There’s actually quite a bit of info but it just places it out of the way so you don’t get overloaded. The app keeps track of your problem characters and quizzes you more frequently till you understand them. I downloaded it just hoping to get through the first level. Several months later I’ve stuck with it and I’m halfway through the second level. I don’t think I’ll ever make it through all of the levels but I’ve gotten much farther than I ever did with paper flash cards. I’d highly recommend this app for learning kanji..Version: 1.4.35

Beautiful, functional and slightly buggyI tried a few kanji apps, but this one really stood out. Simple and attractive, the UI doesn’t get in the way. That’s harder to do than it looks. The JLPT based organization is great, as is the review system. The only problem is that the kanji writing part is buggy. Sometimes it’s too sloppy (day and moon radicals are basically interchangeable) but it often rejects strokes for no obvious reason. And maybe one writing interaction in a hundred, the app locks up as soon as the character is complete - it’s only recoverable by killing the app. Still, I enjoy studying with it and would rather do a few lessons than play some casual game. Definitely worth the small price..Version: 1.4.27

Thank you so much for this app!I’m learning faster than watching those long tutorials on youtube on how to remember! Thankyouthankyouthankyou! The price for all lessons was just enough and it seemed so reasonable! Thank you :DDDDDDD <3333333.Version: 1.4.35

Love this appPurchased additional levels almost immediately, I thought the price was very reasonable for what you get. I’ve been studying Japanese on and off for 20 years. I’m actually a high school Japanese teacher! This is great for me to fill in my kanji gaps and prepare to sit the jlpt again. Love that there is a draw function, something I’ve been lazy about the past few years. Highly recommend..Version: 1.3.22

Repetition is amazing for my memoryGreat app! Definitely worth getting the full app これはすごいでしょ.Version: 1.3.25

Just beginning but already know it’s worth it.I’m still on the first few levels of N5 but I love this app. I have a bunch of kanji practice books but they feel so ancient and intimidating. Being able to review the levels and hear pronunciation (even if it’s a little robotic or flat) is extremely helpful and makes learning kanji/Japanese feel tangible. I think 10$ is a steal for this app and love it so much I’m thinking about getting an iPad so I can practice more fluidly. Even if the strokes have to be super precise I don’t mind having to restart bc it’ll help retain the kanji anyways. Anyways thanks for this app, it’s a lifesaver!!!!.Version: 1.4.35

RadiclesThis app is really good, but if possible can you please add the radicles? If you already have, I think it would be the thing to learn right at the start..Version: 1.4.35

Excellent and helpful - but missing a few things.I highly recommend this app but fair warning there many lessons where there are either missing choices(blanks) and no voice recordings for pronunciations of some kanji here and there. I still recommend using this app though because even if for whatever reason you aren’t able to learn the kana reading or the pronunciation of a kanji, you can still remember the symbol and what the symbol is representing so at the very least you can still familiarize yourself with the various kanji and their meaning. Even so, there are many kanji with many readings and I’m only most of the way through N5 and I can only assume you will learn new readings in different contexts later but just be aware that most kanji have several different readings depending on context and placement in a sentence or word structure. Otherwise it is an excellent flash card style app and I have learned a lot..Version: 1.4.35

Kanji Learning is easy and fast.Good voice clips, clear script, intelligent teaching and review tools, logical progression. I’m learning heaps! Thanks for this great app!.Version: 1.3.4

Great for improving Japanese vocabulary! This app does a fantastic job covering Japanese kanji! I love that you can write it down on the phone, makes it easier to memorize!.Version: 1.3.21

Best 10 bucks I ever spent! I see progress after using this daily for 1 yearI love this app. I have been using this app for about a year now and I learned so much Kanji. The Custom Review and Review sections really help customize the select kanji you want to go over. If you are concerned about this app not having the オン読み and くん読み、this app introduces to you slowly. It won’t teach you all the readings when you are first introduced to the kanji, but it teaches you in lessons on how you can read this kanji with other words. This kanji app teaches reading, stroke order, and quizzes you on both. It’s awesome! The most recent update introduced even more reading combinations, and I appreciate that the developers are constantly improving English translations/stroke order. Its super cool when you start recognizing some kanji and you are able to read some in the back of some japanese snacks, anime, streets of japan, etc. This is the best 10 bucks i ever spent. Thank you so much for creating this app!.Version: 1.4.14

Great for Kanji learning but a small bug! This app is brilliant for my reading as well as my recall for kanji characters. Essentially, it teaches you a kanji character and some common associated words with that character. I only just recently bought the whole pack (unlocks every level) and I can already tell it will be well worth it in the long run even though I’m only halfway through the Level 2 (N4). The small gripe I have is with the review of past kanji I’ve learnt because sometimes the app will freeze when I’m in the middle of the review, forcing me to restart the app. I haven’t seen it happen with the normal learning levels, although it may be because each of those are shorter than the review. Another thing is when I’m trying to draw a stroke with a tiny bend at the end (eg. 町), it sometimes doesn’t recognise it (?) and it would register my stroke as wrong. On the bright side, it reinforces the character in my mind because it forces you to redo it. I hope the review issue gets fixed in future but it isn’t really a huge issue, at least to me. It’s still a great app for kanji learning (for someone who’s lazy to do flashcards, like me)!.Version: 1.4.14

The greatest kanji app!As someone who has tried 10’s of Japanese learning apps. This one is by far the best. It’s divided into n5-n1 with 4-5 kanji in each lesson. You’ll learn the English meaning, how to say them, and what the kanji is. Just learn 2-3 lessons per day and run through all the ones you know with the review all feature and you’ll be amazed at how fast you learn to read them. I’ve had limited success with writing though. Pair this with the Japanese! App and you’ll be well on your way to mastery. I like these 2 apps better than Duolingo, Mondly, Lingodeer, and many others. Highly recommend!.Version: 1.2.2

すごいです。どもありがとうございます。.Version: 1.4.35

Urgent update needed after iOS14!UPDATE: It’s been fixed. Thanks for the swift update! ... The app has broken after the latest iOS update. Most of the hiragana and kanji characters appear as “...” Please fix soon!.Version: 1.3.26

Kanji is hard. This app is easy!As long as you don’t rush it, you can use this to memorize Kanji easily. Don’t continue until you know you have one set down. This app let’s you review all you’ve learned and will continue bringing up any kanji you’ve struggled with until you get it every time. I can’t stress this enough, don’t do every lesson at once. That won’t help you. I suggest doing 3-5 lessons a week depending on your learning abilities. That way you won’t overload your list of review words before you are ready. Other than that, this app is worth 5 stars. -a japanese language teacher.Version: 1.3.13

Efficient learningSuper easy to use and more streamlined than some of the other apps..Version: 1.2.2

Good for studying and writing kanjiIt’s exactly what I was looking for. An app to learn the kanji and their stroke orders while writing them at the same time. It proposes kanji per JLPT levels which is another thing I was looking for. Most apps will show you these things in separate menus. But this one starts by showing you the strokes order then leaves outlines, then leaves you a blank square to fill. You also hear the sound. So you really work your memory and learn the correct orders. Using the ipad and pen is great. Most apps are super sensitive on the strokes, like it won’t work even when you know you traced your stroke right. This one is more forgiving but it’ll still know if you’re wrong. Thanks for this app!.Version: 1.3.4

Lesson 10Great app although when I try to do lesson 10 of level 1 the app keeps crashing. Overall a very good kanji flash card app, I will use a lot and hopefully lesson 10 gets fixed.Version: 1.0.8

There should have been more free lessonsI think the app should take a membership approach instead of selling individual lessons. Overall good value..Version: 1.4.36

Excellent App and Customer ServiceThis app has been so helpful with increasing my Kanji reading proficiency and even though it has some minor bugs with reading the stroke order sometimes. It’s still the most useful app I’ve used for learning and memorizing Kanji. In addition to that my app crashed today after the update so I submitted feedback expecting it to be fixed within the usual 1-2 business days but I received an email back only a couple of hours later saying it was fixed. I’m so impressed this app has been worth every penny. I definitely recommend it to anybody wanted to increase their reading proficiency..Version: 1.3.24

Love the app but how does “review past due” work?Overall fantastic app for memorizing kanji. I’ve noticed a significant increase in understanding when reading Japanese text. I do wish however the “review past due” could be limited to “x” amount of kanji. I don’t always have 5-10+ minutes to go through the entire thing. Also, I’m not sure how it remembers/knows which kanji to review. I’d hope it’s a mix of kanji you haven’t encountered recently and a mix of most frequently missed kanji. I hope these are taken into consideration. Regardless I’d 100% recommend this app!.Version: 1.5.11

PerfectThis app is awesome and almost perfect in my opinion. What it’s really missing is a tab with spaced repetition reviews, like the app Bunpo or Lirer have for vocab and grammar. With this app once you start completing a lot of kanjis it’s hard to decide which ones to review when in a systematic manner. Hope this can be added and it’ll be perfect!! Edit: after a while the review system started working again and it works great. Not sure why it wasn’t working earlier, maybe something with an update or something, but it’s been solid for a good while now, so had to update and add a star. Thanks!.Version: 1.5.16

Great app!🎌 ありがとうございます😊.Version: 1.0.7

Almost greatThe only missing feature imo is having the review past due based on a SRS system, otherwise good enough for drilling.Version: 1.3.28

Great AppA straightforward, no-nonsense kanji learning app. Though I wish there were stage based reviews eg: review all of N4..Version: 1.1.4

Very Excellent! This is an excellent app, highly recommend - simple to use, reliable - good feedback to help learning..Version: 1.4.35

Add writing mode to the kanji! app.Is see that there is no writing mode on kanji. Can you please add that feature on iPad? I see that there is writing on the pictures, but there is no writing on real app..Version: 1.3.4

Stroke orderOkay I managed to get the drawing to work! And it’s really good for teaching stroke order. Thanks.Version: 1.3.4

DecentIt’s good for the most part. There are a few little errors and inconsistencies. For instance, I had a question where two of the options as answers were “to turn toward” and “to turn towards”. Both of those answers mean the same thing, but if you click on the “wrong” one it comes up as incorrect. There are a few little errors like that, but if you can look past it being a bit rough around the edges it’s a good app and better than anything else I’ve found so far..Version: 1.3.21
