Cardflow: Index & Flash Cards for Negative User Reviews

Crashed in the middle and nothing was savedDownloaded it today and used it for the first time , really enjoying it - however, just when I started considering buying the plus version after making dozens of handwritten cards, it crashed ... when I reopened it everything I put in during the last hour was gone So, the decision became easy ... really nice app with great features, but I can’t afford to waste my time with it.Version: 6.0

Very good, but cant paste textIf you’re going to use these with a Apple Pencil or to type original ideas onto cards, it’s great. But if you’re writing text in other documents and wanting to import them (say, writing Dialog or Character Descriptions in Word but wanting it on a card) there doesn’t appear any way to do this..Version: 6.7

Huge potential but keeps crashingI love working with index cards so this app is a game changer Issue is that it keeps crashing on my iPad Air 3. Also if the upgrade had ocr it would be truly awesome.Version: 5.9

Excellent for an intro version!I use this for indexing my screenwriting process and quite like it. It has however, crashed a few times during use and other bugs are certainly starting to show. There are a few reviews that complain about the lack of features (frills, really) which would be fair if this were the only version available. But do keep in mind that there is a paid version as well, with additional features. Nice and minimalistic. Would be a five star app if not for the bugs..Version: 2.2

Crashes way too muchI’m a writer, so I often have to write down and plan out a lot of things. So when I saw this app, I got really excited thinking I could finally organise all my plots once and for all. But my excitement died down as soon as the app crashed maybe one or two minutes into me opening the app. When I went back in, half of my progress was lost. I dealt with it for a good hour and swiped out of the app every so often so it wouldn’t crash but it wouldn’t stop crashing and when I finally lost an entire card completely filled with writing, I gave up on the app. The concept is great, but there’s too many bugs. The auto save feature also needs working on..Version: 6.0

Great potential but great flawsThis app has the potential to become a must have for so many people. Unfortunately at the moment every great feature is compromised by an equally terrible execution. Want to change the font size (which you will do often because the default is too small to read, and it doesn’t remember the setting when creating a new card)? Well bad news, the font setting is superimposed on the setting to split screen. Want to use the Apple Pencil? The nib thickness is too large for the size of the card and cannot be reduced. Want to use the convert hand written notes into typed text function? Well as soon as this is selected the keyboard is activated directly where your hand goes. And so it goes on. For an app of that price and with a tech support that doesn’t reply, it’s a big ask. If the font setting could be moved, or just remember the setting, if the pencil thickness could be amended, and when the ‘convert notes to text function’ is selected, if the keyboard could move to the top of the screen, then this would be a good app. However if there was an option to retain the hand written note on the reverse of the card when converted into text (it’s not totally accurate which can leave you scratching your head at what the heck a note meant), and if it added text to the place on the card you are writing on rather than add it to the previous text, then it would be a terrific app..Version: 6.2

Too many unanswered Qs = deletedSince the Index Card app hasn't seen an update since 2015, I looked for competing apps. This could be *the* one, but the dev has left open too many Qs for me to invest in the paid version. Neither here nor at the website can I locate a list detailing the difference between the freebie and paid version. A few of my (predictable!) Qs: ✧︎︎︎ Is the Pro also an island app, i.e. no syncing? ✧︎︎︎ Standard Share Sheet access in the Pro version? ✧︎︎︎ Standard print capability in the Pro version? Since the dev couldn't be bothered to tell us the differences, I can't be bothered with the app. Freebie deleted. The hunt continues..Version: 3.1

Missing one important thingThis looks good. This is almost what I need. The one essential feature that I feel is missing is the spaced repetition and scheduling aspect like what anki does. If this feature was implemented than I would definitely buy the + version..Version: 6.0

👎🏻 app lies about needing Bluetooth for Pencil supportApp prompted me to allow Bluetooth, claiming it was for Pencil support. Knowing that Bluetooth is used by nefarious apps to track users against their will, I said “Don’t Allow”. The app still worked just fine with my Pencil, despite not having the Bluetooth access it claimed to need – leaving me to question what it really wanted that Bluetooth access for..Version: 5.9

Great PotentialThis app has great potential, I really like the layout-it’s logical. That being said, the functionality isn’t as smooth as what I’d expect for an Apple app. My biggest gripe is the way I constantly move cards without intending to because of how the app is setup. Suggestion, in order to move a card, make us long press for almost a full second, or, make it a toggle button to enable moving the cards around. The current implementation is horrible..Version: 4.4

Waste of my timeI figured let me try the free version first to see if it was easy for me to get the results I want. The plan was to upgrade to the Cardflow + after testing out the “free version”. What a joke. There is no free version...only advertisements telling me why plus is better than free. I created a card and wanted to see how it would look printed out. The export option is not there. You can only play around with what’s on the page and that’s it. (Unless you want to upgrade from nothing; probably to nothing). Now that I feel there are scammy vibes I want nothing to do with this developer. Why would I trust you or your paid version? Just be honest instead of misleading. Stupid..Version: 6.0

Not fully for storyboard!Unfortunately, storyboard lacks a very important feature: reorder cards. For now the order of cards is entirely free. If you want reorder them you have to do it manually. If there are lots of cards, that could be a nightmare. the cards in a storyboard are supposed to be in strict order, that is how the story goes. So to be a storyboard app, Cardflow needs add this feature. I tried the link function, I think it is a meaningless feature..Version: 2.5

Good idea, Poor ExecutionThis app has great potential, but it currently has too many shortcomings for me to recommend the standard version, or to purchase the advanced version. Two features (and maybe I’ve just missed them) are required to make this app a must have: 1. Backup and Sync 2. The ability to move cards from one deck to another. (Note: another reviewer has mentioned the value of spaced repetition, but this method, though sub-optimal, would allow that basic functionality. A student simply needs to create a few decks corresponding to their level of retention, and then move cards accordingly.) I’m not sure how hard 1 would be to implement, but it seems that 2 should be rather easy..Version: 4.1

In general, pretty goodPretty easy to use, but it’s incredibly basic. I understand that there’s a “pro” version but I don’t feel that it should be necessary to pay $15 for the ability to highlight and have different colored pens. Overall, I think it’s good, but I wish there was a less expensive way to upgrade, or that there should be more tools to use. I do appreciate how it allows me to hand write my note cards and draw diagrams, though!.Version: 6.2

Gear applicationGreat application.Version: 4.6

A bit sluggishI hoped this would be more fluid on an iPad Pro (9.7in) but there is a second or so delay when viewing a card via the board, so the UI gets a little in the way when zipping around cards. Also, switching between front and back feels cumbersome. I just want fluid gestures so the UI gets out the way of the thought process. Would have liked the demo version to have all the features of the paid version to properly evaluate - limiting the number of cards would be enough for the demo but don't strip out core features - how am I to properly evaluate the app! App looks promising anyway so will keep a keen eye on it, but won't be upgrading to the paid version this time around..Version: 2.3

Potential is thereNeed colors for ink. More font choices *** stylus support *** Get this and I'll upgrade to pro version. UX is still rough... You move from left to right on the top tool bar, as you work with different tools. Type is on right side; draw, erase, select (lasso) is on left. When you select the type option those tools are now on left. So in type mode you cannot use other tools.... Only one type size per card. There is more. But I'll detail to the developers..Version: 1.3

Defaults to draw modeWhy would I have cards with lines if I wanted to draw. I need to type, text. Every time you open a card you have to select text. I am now sick of this and looking for another app.Version: 6.0

Download thisThis is really good for revision when it comes to different languages for different keyboards. For me the Arabic language is really hard to type so using this was really easy I could type the English part of the vocabularies and the drawing part I could write the Arabic. The only reason I took a way a star is because there aren’t any colors it’s just black and white, it’s hard for me because I use my finger and not an apple pen.Version: 6.0

Update Locked the App upKinda aggravated at the moment. This app was great for 2am when I needed to pull up cards for emergency information of my employees. Since the update I cannot get the cards to expand on the board. Like a dummy I don’t have a paper backup so I’m squinting to see the information until a fix and I can import my information back to my Emegency notebook..Version: 3.7

Installed perfectlySomeone has said it won't install on an iPad. Well I've had no trouble. Useful app. Not particularly innovative or exciting but nevertheless ....nice looking and simple to use. Actually,in the blurb, it says this app saves you writing on paper. Well, sometimes writing on paper is a lot, lot, lot more convenient than reaching for an iPad. It is just ridiculous to make comments like that!.Version: 2.2

PotentialThis app has the basics that I am looking for. However I wish that I could zoom out to see all my flash cards on my board. However for some reason there is a limit to how wide a view there is. Also I wish there was an attached extension that would allow me to go through the flash cards like quizlet. Lastly I wish you could have certain sections on a flash card board that when you go through them it stays in that section. Instead of just going to the right like you’re reading the flash cards on a page. In the end, I do admit that it is perfect for making flashcards with your stylus. However when it comes to studying the flash cards, there is a lot of work that could be done to the app..Version: 4.6

Looks nice, but doesn’t seem to work...This worked ok when I first opened it, but I closed it down to Google something and now every time I open it it freezes and I can’t add, edit or move cards around. Completely useless! Such a shame, I really enjoyed it for the first 10 mins I had it.Version: 3.5

FeedbackI like this app, but I cannot prevent the index cards from flipping unintentionally when writing with the Apple Pencil. The pressure of my palm keeps causing the cards to flip. If I wasn’t having this problem, I would continue using the app and would consider upgrading. However, I’m may move on to something different..Version: 5.9

UnhappyIt is not what is advertised.Version: 4.7

Won't install on ipad.Failed to install, made several attempts, then deleted it. A shame. Looks good. Considered purchasing the paid-for app, but did not, as it seems unreliable..Version: 1.4

Impossible to writeI love the idea of getting to draw molecular structures and writing their names on the back like flashcards. But when I try to draw, the card decides to zoom in and out randomly. After making about 25 flash cards I gave up. I wish this app could be updated or something. If the features worked correctly I would love it..Version: 4.1

No cloud optionI bought this app a few days ago and I really like it. But I stopped using it as there is a major issue with it . I can’t access my notes on other devices. I can’t even create an account on it. I wish the developers could fix this issue and so I can use it..Version: 6.2

This would be 5 stars but........This app is crazy cool, I can take notes, write reminders, write memory scriptures, and even use as flash card for my kids spelling words and math equations....but...why can't they be saved!!!!! Lol. I wish I could save them, supposed the app crashed and everything got deleted?? Great app developers please fix, or did I miss something??.Version: 2.5

Frustrating to work withFree version is frustrating to work with. paid version looks like it may solve some of the issues I’m having, but I’m not going to pay for a premium version of something I’m not sure will be useful. Wish there was a premium trial period..Version: 6.0

Not ideal for memorising stuffIt is definitely a good app for mind mapping and story board. But it isn’t very ideal for using it as a flash cards to memorise vocabulary, information, etc. It doesn’t have features to help you test your knowledge on the flash cards..Version: 5.9

Having a problemI’m having a problem with this on my iPad Pro. I was able to add one card and write in some information. Then things went kerflooey. It took dozens of tries before I could get a second card to appear. I couldn’t add a third no matter how many times I tried. I deleted the app and reinstalled it. This time I couldn’t add even one card. The program looks great but so far it’s been pretty much useless for me. Can you help, please..Version: 6.0

Great potentialI just tried it for an hour for a quick storyboard project. It has great potential but it has some shortcomings. Cannot copy paste or duplicate the cards.. cannot change the pen and eraser properties like size and color. If you could fix these issues I would pay for the app. Cheers!.Version: 6.0

Lag issues with pencilOften has problems with processing pencil input, leading to lag and incorrectly detected strokes. Tried switching to other pencil input apps and they working are fine. Even rebooted iPad but Cardflow still being problematic. Eventually the problem corrects itself after not using the app for a while. Not going to entertain the idea of upgrading to a paid version until this is fixed..Version: 4.3

Still has the typing bug in free versionWhen will they ever fix the bug that resets typed font type and style? Type a header on the card, change the font type size and style (bold italic etc) then close the card. Reopening the card drops the font back to the original and style is reset to regular. With bugs like that why would I pay for the full version?.Version: 4.5

Only feature is writing on flash cards. Not helpful to actually study. This app does not have any competition and it shows. Yes, this is the only app where you can hand write your flash cards. That feature is great but that is about it. The app icons/buttons within the app are not responsive like other apps and this app somehow has worse hand recognition when writing than any other app. You can’t change color or size of the pencil or eraser and there is no auto-shape feature for drawing things like circles and squares. This app is also very annoying because when you open the flash card it is on the lined side for details, but I like to write my topics/subject on the flash card first. There is no feature to customize this. Additionally, there is no feature to actually go through the flash cards. There is no “study” mode or learning games in the app that you can use with your cards. To study you have to click on each flash card you made individually and flip it over when you want to see the other side. I would rather handwrite in another app and import the photos to an app like Quizlet. TLDR: Overall, very disappointing app. The novel feature of this app is being able to hand write the flash cards and that is it. It is lacking excellent features of other apps like ways to learn your flash cards and customizable writing tools. Again, it is obvious that this app is not pushed to be “better” because it has no competition in the App Store..Version: 6.2

CrashesApp crashed and I lost the card that I had created. Also problems with palm rejection..Version: 6.0

Make the free version better quality.Honestly it needs a lot more. My palm shouldn’t be flipping over the card mid sentence while I’m writing w my pencil. Also it should have the option to set a different color as default…it’s good as an electronic index card but so much could improve seriously…without having to buy an advanced version, it’s annoying..Version: 6.2

Keyboard shortcuts don’t workMost of the keyboard shortcuts don’t work. When the user guide clearly states that they work. AND when you hold down the Command key it does not display the keyboard shortcuts, when the user guide clearly states that it’s supposed to do this. But what is the MOST egregious is that their website offers a “Feedback” page, but when you fill out the form it does says it cannot send the feedback and advises you to check your email address. I have tried every email address that I have. And I don’t know how else to type them, they are my email addresses. So I can’t even provide feedback or get help. I am just a powerless consumer. We are all powerless with these companies. We just have to sit here and accept this behavior. Someday we will act and show these people that we are not powerless..Version: 6.2

Cannot export to any kind of file if you don’t buy a $20 membership. My file just stuck in this app :(.Version: 6.0

Missing key functionalityI wanted to love this, but when I’m storyboarding I need to be able to see the other cards while I’m working on a new one. As far as I can tell, you can zoom in and write/draw on one card, but can’t add content to a card while looking at the whole board. I also couldn’t ever find the different templates that were supposed to be included. I read the manual, but couldn’t find anything that addressed either of these issues. I’d gladly pay for the upgraded version if it offered this basic functionality..Version: 4.3

Removed Apple pencil option?I used to be able to write using just my Apple Pencil and the app would only recognize that but now I can’t find the option anymore and now the app will recognize my Apple Pencil AND my hand as it rests on the screen as I write notes. It’s rather counterproductive when working in fast pace situations such as sitting in a college level lecture in organic chemistry, for example..Version: 3.8

Disappointed with TransferI do like the potential of this app, but I’m disappointed with the integration between the free version and the paid version plus also the board functionality. I followed instructions and transferred my files from the free app to the paid app, but once my files from the free version were in the paid app they didn’t have all the features of the paid app. For instance, in the paid app I can’t add links to cards from the files that I transferred from the free app. This seems to mean that I have to rewrite my projects in the paid version. Which is a massive pain! Also, it’s more than a little weird that it’s so difficult to expand the board space to make more room for cards when brainstorming. I realize that in the plus version there is a larger board option, but is that it? Is it really not an infinite board? That’d be so counterintuitive to what I’d expect from an app named Cardflow. To have to worry about real estate would be a massive disappointment in a program that caters to the flow ideas on spatially arranged cards. Ideas are infinite. The board holding them should also be endless! Unless I’m missing something, let me know if I am, these two drawbacks are quite disappointing in an otherwise so promising app! They might even make the price exorbitant..Version: 4.3

Good idea, lacking useful features and innovationI really like the idea of handwriting Flashcards; however, this program is almost useless due to the lack of useful features and very not intuitive to use. My recommendations for future improvements are below: 1. Don't reinvent the wheel. Go get ideas from other flash card apps and combine useful features and get rid of useless ones. Some useful features are: - easy to use menu (use common sense and use beta testers for feedback) - handwriting feature with different pen styles and colors - accessibilities to writing panel and tools (see Notability and similar note taking apps) - quiz mode, flash card mode, matching, fill in the blank (see Quizlet and similar apps) 2. Full version costs too much for such a poor app. Perhaps with serious improvements. Unless you can make it better than all others on the market, or combine key features, it's really not worth downloading. 3. I'm tired writing recommendations. Look around at other similar apps before wasting time making new ones. Good luck and hope to see some future improvements..Version: 2.5

Like the app, terrible palm rejectionI really like this app, but it has terrible palm rejection for Apple Pencil. It flips the cards, draws random lines and dots. The program itself is a great thought mapping experiencing with being able to move cards around. I would enjoy it much more with the extra Apple Pencil sensitivity..Version: 6.0

Buggy but otherwise good at what it doesToo expensive to be having these issues. App crashes on me at least once a day and loses the last few minutes of work. The palm rejection is also finicky; cards flip on me constantly while I'm writing. I'm not sure why my palm is being registered as a two finger tap. I'm aware of the gray slide tool but it's inconvenient at best and with palm rejection functioning properly shouldn't be necessary. IPad pro 11in.Version: 6.0
