Portuguese -You should specify BrazilianI tried out your app only to find out that the Portuguese you offer is Brazilian when I want European Portuguese. There is a huge difference between these languages, they originated from the same source but have developed completely differently. You should make this clear instead of wasting people’s precious time..Version: 7.1.1

Very badVery bad.Version: 7.1.1

ThievesThis app worked when I first got it but as soon as I payed for the lifetime subscription it never worked again. I have no clue why Apple allows so many developers on the AppStore to steal your money and say it’s all good. It’s called theft by deception and Apple puts its name behind the practice while knowingly allowing it. Apple allows these developers to set up programs that hide a phony debit card underneath your real one to skim money from each and every transaction you make. Apple knowingly allows the insurance companies to take the hit while they sit back and collect on everything you buy. It’s a slick business unless you’re part of the insurance company plan to pay up all the time. Make the app work as you said it would..Version: 7.2.0

How about native speakers saying the phrase?Ok, I haven’t had this app very long and it looks pretty decent in what I’ve tried to use it for. However... it would be nice to have a native speaker say the phrase of the language? I tried Maori and it was a man with a notable ‘British’ accent, the same speaker and accent used for the English phrase while I was trying to figure out how to get the app to say the Maori phrase. Yes, that would be a lot of work to add in, but for those of us learning languages, it would be nice to hear a more authentic accent. I would also be nice to have an audio of both phrases versus just the audio of the phrase showing up on the top row. I had English wanting to hear it in Maori, so the English was showing on top. When I switched the langague (what gets translated) I at first got English twice. I had to copy the Maori, switch the languages around to get Maori as the language to be translated into English. On the first try, the audio stayed with the English, then when I copied and pasted I got the ‘British’ male speaking Maori with a a ‘British’ accent. Didn’t try other languages to see if that was consistent across other languages. Important details for those using the app to help learn a language!.Version: 5.1.0

Bought the app originally and they removed my purchaseI paid for this app and the most recent update I can no longer use translation features suddenly without paying a monthly fee now. Apparently you don't get what you pay for. Expect them to not honor the current agreement since they didn't honor past purchases..Version: 7.1.1

7 day free trial wouldn't functionI had already downloaded the app and set up a 7-day free trial subscription, with Apple subscription approval. Then, I typed in my Apple subscription email. Rejected. Deleted the app. Reinstalled it from the app store. The same email was inputted as before. Rejected again I wasn't asked to register separately, so what should I do, Mate? (very Australian).Version: 7.2.0

DisappointedThe app often crashes on my iPhone suddenly and I have to close it and reopen it to get it to work again. I don’t think that’s acceptable for an app at this cost. It’s also awkward when having a conversation to have to change the flag icons when changing speakers every time. Cumbersome. The translation seems adequate, but overall I’m very disappointed and would like a refund after only a week of daily use. I will replace it with something better..Version: 5.1.1

No internet no translationIt’s actually not bad but it would be great if they could make it work even with no internet connection..Version: 4.0.5

Not Sure Yet .. Some Early SignsWhy, in your description of app, last § (read while waiting for download to finish as needed it “right now,” of course) did you day to down load this “free” app? It def wasn’t free for me: was $9.99 WITH an extra add-on at same price. So, since all I want is an app, that, when I’m in any App Store iOS app and highlight a foreign word, paragraph, or page(s), I want a translation! Period. I& this app doesn’t do that, it IS a con. If able, will report back..Version: 4.0.13

Flat out bait and switchAdvertised as free but demands a subscription immediately after using. Is not free for a week. Despite the dev response..Version: 7.1.1

Not working in iMessageLike the app, but not fully working. Have the newest updates. App works when opened, but not able to use it in iMessage. When pressed in iMessage, the screen is black. Tried to reinstall. Still not working. Please help!.Version: 6.0.1

Not so good as for MacActually, I purchased this app because I love desktop Mate for Mac. But mobile version have some things which I don like. The main thing is that we need to press Enter or button to get translation. I used google translate for years on my mobile, and it translates text immediately after entering. Then we typing second word, and google translate displays translate for both words. It cool. And voices. In Mate voices sounds as outdated voices generator. Google translate have very humanized voices. It’s not big problem. But google translate is free, Mate is not cheap..Version: 5.2.1

WorthlessWorked only the first time I used it in Safari. The screen pops up to translate and you cannot click anything. My phone is not freezing because I can exit the menu. Plus, it’s expensive! Subscription, come on. One time fee for something like this. Deleted..Version: 7.1.1

Try itTry it out.Version: 4.0.2

Always claims expired subscription when I try to translate a web site……until this bug is fixed, it’s pretty useless, as nice as it’s otherwise, because the main purpose I got this was web page translation, not interactive use.Version: 7.1.1

Could be betterI disabled the pop-up when a text is selected and I still get it. Translate pages would look better than this ugly and clumsy interface if we could simply use the share sheet and click "Mate". Instead of looking and scrolling through all tiny extensions and then bringing up this huge pop-up with settings you only need to set once and a huge logo. I wasn't offered a way to pay monthly and I paid yearly but I regret at the moment. Oh and there's no camera/photo translation...Version: 7.1.1

Worthless app and crap full of in app purchasesFull of in app purchases and no lifetime subscription purchases it was free before the new update but with new purchases model this is completely failed concept i will give a try to other alternatives..Version: 7.0.0

Trans is wrongWhy do you guys trans chinese to vietnamese is too wrong? It’s different versions? Not just the same what i used!!! I subscribed 1 years and now i really disappointed!!: Using your app, compare the translation on the site before with now so that it is completely wrong in meaning. Please return the previous translation!!.Version: 7.2.0

Immediate uninstallAfter installing on my iPhone 6s Plus with iOS 10.2.1 my home button became unresponsive. I had to reset the phone and uninstall the app..Version: 3.0.1

Not a true Speech translatorI’ve looked in settings can’t find anything but this works as one way speech translator, not a true “speech” translator (like they claim) that allows two way communication. I want to have someone speak in their native to the app and have it translate but the microphone is disabled when the language is not English. I tried with Tamil and it only works one way when it comes to speech. This app is useless if you are in a foreign country and want to translate someone’s speech. It’s Good to have one way conversation that’s it..Version: 5.1.0

SucksYour safari extension is broken and doesn’t work at all. And yes I checked the settings in your app and in safari extensions..Version: 7.0.1

Should have a refundSo far from the few languages I tried within the app, two do not work whatsoever with speech mode, Korean and french, would like a refund really, who knows how many other languages don’t work... and purchased after been recommended on the App Store....Version: 4.2.4

OK app for business/translators…This is not for the average user. @£43.99 per YEAR - this is aimed at those users above. It’s a real shame, because this app is Very Good at what it does. Personally, I’d be OK with £12.00 per year (Individual User), or, say, £19.99 One-Time payment..Version: 7.2.0

Locks up on creation of accountThis app asks for your subscription fee up front and after you pay, and try to use, it will tell you to create an account which soft locks. Don’t waste your money, it burned my seven day free trial and would charge me a month every time I tried to create an account. Huge oversight for an app 4 years old..Version: 7.2.0

Not goodMaori isn't even translated properly, get it right before you start making words up that are incorrect or not translated. I wouldn't pay for this app thats for sure..Version: 2.1

It could be greatIt would be great but for some reason the app is choosing itself the languages it is translating from and into. You want English to Spanish? App knows better. It will translate from French to Polish and there is nothing you can do to change it. Great when it works but overall I'm a bit disappointed..Version: 7.1.1

No reply from tech support. Microphone doesn't workPlease refund me or fix it so that I can use the microphone. It currently does not work at all..Version: 5.1.1

Horrible qualityVery disappointed in this at a premium ($40+) specifically for the Macedonian language only to find the audio example quality is terrible, almost impossible to understand. Definitely impossible to understand the correct pronunciation. German, French etc are obviously very clear though.. You’ve advertised support for the Macedonian language on your website but arguably the most important feature doesn’t work. Shame as it is a very polished app otherwise, I have requested a refund.Version: 6.0.1

Easy to use but...I like the translation button at the top of the page. Makes it easy to use. Only thing I was hoping for was that it would translate better than Google Translate but it's about the same. So it's a matter of "do I want a free Google Translate where I have to manually toggle with the aA menu button on the address bar and then selecting Translate?" or "would I rather pay big money for a toggle button to automatically appear at the top of my page to toggle the translations instead of having to enable it by going through the address bar menu?".Version: 7.2.0

Disappointing!Hopes were built high: I am a language learner, and this seed like it was just too good to be true...this does everything I have ever dreamed! However, it doesn't. It doesn't sync, it doesn't work on Chrome, and even if it did, I wouldn't know because Customer Service never answered any of my questions. I just want to go to a website, click on a word, see what said word means, have the application save my word for easy review. Yep, it's just quicker to share a word to the "share" and open/save to another app. So sad..Version: 7.1.1

They do not honor subscriptionsI paid for a year and it is listed under my active Apple Store subscriptions. But the app still won’t work and says I have to subscribe again. I actually did subscribe again and Apple said I was already subscribed. Then they sent me email to a activate it in the browser. It let me log in but still said I wasn’t subscribed. I sent a message to their support last week, but they have not answered.Version: 7.2.0

Review 1.0A neat app that has potential. Firstly, I would very much love the ability to keep the list of pronunciations but still be able to reverse the order at will as I will often find myself typing a word or sentence and it becomes irksome having to scroll through all the others in the list to get to the one you actually want to see. Sounds like a first-world problem gripe but honesty often helps more than sappiness. I am testing the Arabic on Mate at the moment and I find the voice probably one of the tinniest, most robotic sounding text-to-speeches I've heard to the point I end up going to alternative apps to check pronunciation like Forvo and Google Translate. I was hoping for one of the most highly-priced apps in its subject area that the quality would be better so I really hope they spend time improving the Arabic or at least fixing this feature for Arabic and the others that have the same level of distortion. Naturally, I would love Levantine Arabic and Egyptian Arabic to be added as well as Pashto and Dari, however I understand they need to role out and improve the features for the more popular languages first and whether the industry even has TTS for those is unlikely. I just hope this isn't the line used to perpetually put off expanding and giving attention to any of the languages that aren't Spanish and French. They really do get overepresented in language apps to the point it could be potentially seen as false advertising to show so many if 95% don't have the same quality or number of features down the track. Just to note… Arabic varieties can be different enough from Media Arabic / MSA / Fusa / Classical that it would be like conflating Italian / French / Spanish / Romanian just because they all stem from Latin or Mandarin being the ‘only’ Chinese which no one does. There is intelligibility amongst Arabic varieties for sure (maybe a little more) but they are definitely seen as seperate languages. Notably, Moroccan Arabic is possibly the most divergent but others are different enough that it is worth having more than just one type of Arabic and it would show understanding from the West to the East — a region we don’t always understand very well. If one could whittle them down to five main varieties it would be: Levantine, Egyptic, Maghrebi (Moroccan), Mesopotamian (Iraqi) and Peninsular (Hijazi, Najdi and Gulf)..Version: 6.0.1
