BOM Weather for Positive User Reviews

Best weather app for outdoor workersI’ve been using the BOM app for a while but the improvements over the past few months have made a huge difference. It used to be really awkward to use and I ended up trying another app (not very good either). I have teams of gardeners going out to various locations and I have come to depend on this app to help prepare for inclement weather. The hour by hour information is updated regularly and I love how you can click on the radar to view it, check where the rain is and quickly minimise it. Easy to scroll across to see how the day is predicted to pan out for your area and the ’feels like’ temperature is also helpful. Of course as accurate as they can be - mostly right. It’s intuitive, informative and quick and easy to use..Version: 3.1.4

A decent upgradeThe previous design was always clunky but functional. It was never outstanding and felt cheap, but at least it worked. However, the latest update improves upon the design drastically. It feels fresh and modern, and is way more presentable. A couple small tweaks would help improve the UX, such as repositioning the rain radar button at the bottom. It’s in a very awkward position and feels like it doesn’t belong there. Also, scrolling comes to a complete halt when scrolled to the top. That feels out-of-place on iOS and feels cheap. Overall, a very welcome update..Version: 3.0.0

Great app, would be even better with CarPlay.Great app and I use it on a regular basis. One additional feature that would be great is the implementation of Apple CarPlay so that people can check the weather before heading on a trip without the need to check the phone screen. It is always good to know if you are driving into a thunderstorm which seems to be every second day at the moment. Keep up the great work..Version: 3.12.0

It just gets betterMost weather agencies treat Past and Future as irreconcilable phenomena. Only statisticians are interested in predictions after the fact (well OK, we do want to gauge success). Until recently BOM gave us rainfall since 9 am. Now this ever evolving app reports the past 72 hrs of temperature and rainfall, along with radar (representing the present) and predictions for the next week. I find it invaluable, although I’m sure the bean-counters have a number..Version: 5.2.0

Excellent information, more difficult to readAfter the Bom app upgraded and was no longer available for my phone I tried a lot of others. None were as accurate or easy to use so I upgraded my phone. Positives on new version: radar is great! Negatives: less easy to grasp information at one go. More contrast in colours needed; swipe left for forward temp brings up side bar constantly; too much vertical space between wind, rain etc. Information was much easier to grasp when it was in one box! Still the best though. Keep up the great work Bom!.Version: 3.1.4

A few suggestion improvement...This app has improved with each instalment. There are a few major improvements I’d suggest to improve usefulness, especially to people in the country areas who are more dependant on accurate forecasting. 1. Make the national SYNOTPIC chart accessible on the radar page 2. Make the radar map SATELLITE as that will make the contrast and localities more clear 3. If possible, have CLOUD overlay as an option on the radar which some other apps do. This is very valuable where the radar in some areas shows no rain when rain is often falling consistently. It would also provide a much more useful idea of weather conditions such as likely higher humidity or more sun (important for rural crop growers or anyone working outside). 4. Have a more effective storm warning notification for user’s locale.Version: 3.12.0

Love the new update!I have always thought this app was just...OK. Being that it is a free app this is just fine by me, I didn’t expect much and got an OK ap. The new update however....it is a good-to great weather app now. A LOT better. New features and with a much nicer looking design. Keep up the awesome work and Lee the updates coming. This was a most welcome surprise opening the app today. I think I’d actually pay for this now so long as it keeps getting updated and with more features added such as swell and surf reports..Version: 3.0.0

Excellent way to access weather but update issueThe latest update removed any ability to see per hourly chance of rainfall. For example, today we expect 7mm rainfall, but when? I have to look out the window to tell as the app just shows zero (0) for every hour. Whereas before it could tell you if you need to pack the umbrella for your 8AM walk, or don’t bother because the rain aint until 10PM that night. Also percentage chances rain at a glance overall for weekly forecasts was also removed :( Other than that, this app is all round quite useful and I like access to radars (even if it is not as hi-res accurate like the web version)..Version: 5.1.0

The BOM is an important part of our lives.I rely so much on the BOM App to provide information on everyday things, such as planning the washing, the clothes I wear, need for umbrella/raincoats, outdoor exercise, planning ahead for holidays, preparation for storms and information/warnings for wind (sailing). I use the App several times a day and I think it’s wonderful, life changing in fact, no longer having to guess what the ever changing weather is going to bring. The BOM is just part of our daily lives now, and we love it ❤️.Version: 3.5.0

Love this app, but needs Watch supportI have been using BOM for years thanks to them being one of the only reliable weather sources in Australia. The redesign of the app has been fantastic, but I’m really missing an ability to show this information on my Apple Watch since I use it far more frequently to check things like appointment and weather. If they could add in the temp as a complication like the built in Apple version, it would complete this app for me..Version: 3.1.3

From beta testerI was involved in version 3 from the beginning of beta testing and wish to congratulate the team on a great effort bringing the app up to such a high standard. The stable reliable high quality weather information provided is second to none, genuinely world class, and Australians everywhere should feel proud of their incredible bureau of Meteorology. In an increasingly important space they are supporting Australia with quality information, as the weather gets wilder and the hazard greater. As a rural person and farmer in a non mobile coverage area I consider it the fifth emergency service!.Version: 3.5.0

Not Too BadI have only recently switched from W’zone and overall I feel satisfied with this BOM app. I find the layout is clean and well laid out. The rain radar is easy to switch into and out of and you can look anywhere you want. My 2 gripes... 1. the radar colours are very washed out for light rain and needs more contrast 2. after scrolling through the hourly forecast it will not reset back to present time. You either have to scroll back or shut down the app. Or am I missing something? So overall, not too bad..Version: 3.1.4

Much needed update. Many thanks for the considerably improved version of this app. It certainly was needed. Great layout so easy to navigate and is as comprehensive as possible. I use an iPad, by the way. My brother, who shares the house with me, still prefers Weatherzone, however, I consider the improvements to the BOM light years ahead. I took to it instantly, and particularly like the design, where facts come first ahead of fancy graphics. The rainfall display is similarly a great improvement as well. Top marks all round to the developers (in house, I presume(?)) ...regardless..thank you again..Version: 3.1.4

Bug when switching between saved locationsGreat App but there is a bug when changing saved locations. When the location is changed (from for example Sydney) to another location ( say Canberra) and after viewing the weather in that location changed back to the first location (Sydney in this example) after the App is fully closed by swiping up, when the App is relaunched it opens in the alternate location ( Canberra) not the location the App was set in when closed (Sydney). One has to select Sydney again and now when the App is closed and reopened it correctly opens showing Sydney weather..Version: 3.1.4

Totally recommend itI started using this app in 2019. I got this app from a recommendation by my friends because the other apps aren’t always trustworthy. This app comes straight from the government and you can totally trust it. The only thing I would add is to make an app without internet. For example I went camping lately with no wifi. There was no service and I couldn’t see the weather. This really annoyed me because I needed to know if it was gonna rain or not. To see the weather I had to get in the car and drive like a long time which I obviously didn’t do. If it is possible please fix this. Even if it is just the temperature it would be great. 👍🏽 anyway this app is awesome and it is probably the app for weather no cap. So if you are looking for an app that tells you the true weather look no further, you’ve found it. 👏🏿.Version: 4.4.14

Clean UIVery clean interface, with just enough information shown without being neither too simple nor convoluted. Well done on this front. Another concern I had was that this app would not sway me from using BOM's website to check for my weather needs, fearing the forecast information on the app would not be comprehensive enough for me. Boy was I wrong - the app shows me everything I needed, including the rain radar in a handy pop-up!!! Love it, and much better than I had expected..Version: 3.1.2

HeaderWeather.Version: 4.1.0

Huge improvementThe latest version (downloaded today, 24th June) is a huge step forward and a vast improvement on the previous version - much cleaner and clearer interface. As a previous reviewer commented, the addition of Notifications (with customisation) would be a highly desirable addition - for example warning of hail risk, especially if could be linked to a day’s proposed trips and areas to be visited. Also, as mentioned, radar button is a little odd although perfectly functional. All in all app has become a much more rounded offering, well worth using and now our primary weather app..Version: 3.0.0

Is same crappy web developer everywhere ?Well, another great app overhauled and ruined. Same happened at Commonwealth Bank and Telstra. At least CBA listened and rolled back some changes but Telstra didn’t and I can no longer use their app. Bom was fine but now it’s clunky, all boring text on white that looks like someone’s homework project and has lost some functionality. We don’t want to read huge amounts of text in an app. When will you people get this ?.Version: 3.0.1

Laughably misleading. The forecast right now is a little icon of grey cloud with rain falling from it. It’s the same icon for every hour for the next thirty six hours. Outside the sky is clear ... lots of stars and no clouds. The fact is that despite they grey clouds and rainy icons the actual forecast tells me the chance of rain is between 20% and 30% and the expected amount between 0 and 1 mm. Please, at least make some attempt at matching the icons with the forecast. As it stands the icons make it look like we’re in for a biblical flood but the forecast suggests there’s an 80% chance that it won’t rain at all!.Version: 3.0.1

Just remove the words ‘Max UV’ index!Aside from every single day, irrespective of the actual UV rating, the words ‘max Uv index’ next to the day’s UV number. It’s a good app. If UV number is 1 tye app still puts next to it ‘max uv index’ if it’s 10, the app still states ‘max uv index’. I don’t even know what the max UV INDEX is, (is it 1000?) but it sure can’t be the max every single day when the rating is different every day. Is makes no sense and needs to be changed. If it makes sense to you then at least clarify. It’s been bugging me for years..Version: 5.1.0

Great app and it’s about time😉Great app. Very easy to use. Very similar to the AccuWeather app but this relates to Australia..Version: 3.0.1

Great app. Radar contrast needs workLove this app, my go-to first thing in the morning and any time I’m getting ready to leave the house. Contrast problem: The latest (3.5) update has the colours for light rain nearly indistinguishable from the colour of the ocean. If you live on the west coast like me that’s often where the rain comes from, so now I can’t tell if there is rain coming or not until it crosses the coastal border. I have to squint and show it to my dog to get a consensus on whether it’s going to rain or not. Not an improvement for my eyes, and I see ok, so I reckon it must be near useless for anyone with impaired vision..Version: 3.5.0

The update this app neededReading some of the other reviews for the new version 3 update I have to wonder whether we’re all using the same app - what a bunch of whiners! Version 3 is an enormous improvement on previous versions - both aesthetically and functionality. After using another weather app with a gorgeous UI for over 10yrs, the previous BOM look and feel was like switching from colour to black & white television. Accessing some of the features was convoluted and unintuitive - such as forecasts for the week ahead. Finally my elderly mother can use this app, all the information is laid out straightforward and easy to access. After installing it on her phone and showing her how it works she got it, first time and in less than 5 mins. The new iPad compatibility is very welcome. Apps designed for a phone and stretched for a tablet screen are ugly and a horrible user experience. Now I can use the same weather app on both my devices and have also installed it on mother’s iPad. Back to the whiners. Everyone is entitled to their opinion - however, I don’t concur with any of them. There are a couple of small tweaks that can be made, regardless with v3 the app is infinitely better than it was..Version: 3.0.1

Weatherzone to BOM WeatherI have been using Weatherzone happily for years and they claimed to get their data from the BOM, however I found inconsistencies which bothered me and led me to find this app. The big thing I miss compared with Weatherzone is the observation history showing the history of information for the last 24 (perhaps up to 48, but just going from memory) hours. Other than this feature not being a part of the app, it’s ok. I am getting used to where the rain radar is, though I find it hard to follow the times....Version: 3.12.0

Adding More InformationLoving the BOM app at the moment simple and easy to use, only negative would be what information you can access on the app. If it were possible to add some more information like local tides, rainfall maps like MetEye for example, longer term forecasts and a satellite view for the radar map so you see a clearer picture on where rain is falling could also add links to certain objects on your website for ease of access. But altogether the is an improvement from the original designed app and is great. Keep up the good work. Michael.Version: 3.12.0

This app is the BOM!I’ve tried several weather apps over the years and BOM is consistently the best, so no longer bother with the rest. Functional, simple, clear and straight from the horse’s mouth without any ads or other distractions. Appreciate the warnings and the rain radar: it has saved me (and my car) from hailstorms more than once. An exemplar of how government information should be delivered in a no-fuss useful fashion..Version: 3.12.0

Great App! I have one small suggestionThis app works really well and accurately shows local & national weather, wind, rainfall etc and is clear and easy to read and navigate Currently the UV info is in a separate menu & it would be great to have this as part of the top-line data, along with minimum & maximum temperature for each day. It’s so essential in Australia that we’re reminded whenever possible about UV damage and sun protection, and BOM could really help by foregrounding this and putting it on the radar for all users.Version: 4.4.14

Great value for money :)I’m happy with all the increased functionality in this app in recent years - it is much improved since the early days. Since the BoM gather/measure data as well I’d value a time trace that depicts that data history for my location, and a simple widget with temp now/max predicted for today would be something I would use on my Home Screen. But overall those are minor concerns. Thanks for making this app available..Version: 4.4.14

New look App JuneWhen I opened this App last week I thought I’d been directed to the website, and that it would go back to normal the next day. But no, it hasn’t. I don’t like this new one at all. The previous version was simple, colourful, easy to read, and I could find what I wanted to know in a milli-second. I use an iPad, not a smart phone. The main problem for older people like myself is that the font is too small (I can only read the daily min and max with glasses on) and the screen is too busy. The colours aren’t at all as good as before. I’m going to be looking for another weather App..Version: 3.0.1

Beautiful and clear, but lacks crucial featuresI keep alternating between the BOM and the Elders weather apps. I love the beautiful and simple style of the BOM app, but it’s not complete without synoptic and prognostic charts. And the Elders app is also extremely valuable for its month-to-date statistics, its three months of daily records, and climate averages for every location. And it includes the latest long-term forecasts. Other features may weigh it down with too much complexity, but I can’t be completely satisfied by a weather app without those basic extras..Version: 3.5.0
