Mimo: Learn Coding/Programming for Negative User Reviews

Good app but, REMOVE THE HEART SYSTEMI made a couple of mistakes, ok so I have to wait 2 and a half hours to learn coding again. We shouldn’t be punished for our mistakes!!!.Version: 6.37.0

Why can’t I jump ahead?I want to love this app so badly. It has all the makings of a terrific learning app. My problem is that I have some prior experience with web development and want to jump ahead to some of the later sections on react etc but there’s no way to test out of earlier sections. I’m required to spend hours going over beginner information that I’ve already learned and can’t access the content that I’m after. I’ll probably have to delete it and look elsewhere..Version: 5.77.0

Ok, but some annoying aspectsOk concept, but lots of extra clicking while navigating courses makes for slow progress. Makes out you’re getting everything right, but pretty much impossible to get something wrong. Sparks multiplier doesn’t use your current level, it’s always saying I’m level 1, but I’m level 7. Can’t revisit completed lessons unless you upgrade to pro..Version: 4.20

Be careful if you want to just try it out.About 2 years ago (2018) I tried it out their discounted trial for 2 weeks, then I decided it wasn’t for me and I canceled my subscription, but a few weeks later I was charged the subscription. I emailed customer service (who took so long to get back to me) about the issue, they seemed willing to help. In the end they confirmed with me that they canceled my subscription and I will be refunded. Great! A year later 2019, I got charged on mimo again! I talked to the customer service and told them why this was happening, they told me I was still subscribed, so again, they helped me unsubscribed and get my refund back. Fast forward to this year, 2020, I got charged again! I don’t understand why this is happening after constantly getting confirmed my subscription is now canceled. I checked my account and yes it is not subscribed. Why am I keep getting charged? I am worried that I will have this issue happen every single year for the rest of my life. I really don’t want to be dealing with long customer service waits. I am concerned for their incapability to manage private informations..Version: 4.39

Fun and educating BUT some issuesThis app does a great job of making you learn and understand coding step by step. I had no experience in coding and I’m really enjoying this app. But, once I started progressing (even by the second or third day), the challenges would many times freeze or the software would become very slow. The learning material is pretty well thought out and organised and there is a nice flow from easier to more difficult things, but sometimes when completing projects of material that you have supposedly already done, new things pop up that you haven’t seen before and are not included in the path of lessons..Version: 4.24

You will get charged $99Don’t let the ad fool you. It’s ambiguously stated that you’ll pay the full price if you try it out first. Why you’d pay $100 for an app you’ve never tried also makes no sense. I would give it more stars if it werent for the fact that the egregious cost really devalues the app. Maybe that is something the dev team doesn’t understand, is that this app is a stupid price per year, and you can’t just up and pick a different learning course like, I’m tired of html I want to understand some python or something? Personally. I’m a long shot in the dark kind of person but I love the reaction when I hit - and that should be my prerogative if I want to skip around. It’s not like they set it up as a game and you have something exciting to look forward to, the first two chapters are just html tags and although I do like the learning course, it’s just not shwazzy enough to warrant being that expensive. Yea I am upset that I got charged the $99 and I see it advertised to me for $79. No deal!.Version: 6.24.1

Was really good till recent update. Was absolutley loving doing this on my ipad till they updated to version 5.0.0. Then the menu items became like they are on mobile phone and you can no longer repeat courses to get 3 starts on each subject matter. Dissapointing, please revert..Version: 5.0.0

Where is c#?It’s a good app to learn programming but there isn’t a lot for game development like c#. Unity uses C# and it’s one of the biggest game engines..Version: 6.38.0

Ok, Mimo is not bad, however I have a major issue with the heart systemI do love the feeling of this platform, there is A LOT of potential, but one issue, hearts. Now keep in mind that I’m not the first to complain about it, however I have the biggest hate for this heart system, especially with educational games which should allow me to just do the tests as many times as I need to without having to worry about not being able to learn because “you failed too much, now you must think about the dumb little dip$)+/ that you are”. and this is coming from a beginner who has no clue on this green and blue planet about coding and just started trying to learn. Yes I am going to fail a metric ton of times, but that’s the point of learning, what you succeed at you know and what you fail at you learn from. Now besides that the app is fun and has taught me a good portion already, just remove the hearts(which, yes, is why you get -4 stars) and I will change my rating, if you are reading this devs..Version: 4.65.1

Good but a few thingsSo I have been using this app for the past week. For the most part, it’s very good and it got me into coding. However, there are a few things that I think needs to be changed. First of all, the heart system. Seriously, whenever you make a mistake you have to wait 4 hours to keep coding? It seems kind of unfair. Mistakes are supposed to help you learn, not make you really nervous you’ll get a question wrong. I know this is so people will want to buy Mimo pro, but it’s still too much. At least make it so you have to wait less for another heart. Second of all, the leaderboard has been glitching the past few days. Another reason I use Mimo is because I want to stay first on the leaderboard, but for some reason, it wasn’t updating. I clearly got more sparks in the past few days, but it isn’t showing on the leaderboard. Other people’s scores also haven’t been changing. Is this just something wrong with my device or is it a bug? Please check..Version: 4.81.0

Trash AppNot useful at all, starting with trials which then charge per month. I downloaded and quickly removed it from my phone. The trail version offers limited functionality but I have to pay in order to get access to other functionality if at all. Not recommended, try find something else or use ur laptop!.Version: 5.73.0

Am I crazyPretty sure this app had more programming languages in the past. I was a really early adopter of the app but haven’t used it in 18 months or more now. Was certain it had lessons on swyft and more. It seems more limited now..Version: 4.85.0

Free version is okay, but needs some adjustmentsI do not use the paid version, as I think free version is quite good. But there are two things that are bugging me. One can be left alone but the other... it annoys me TOO MUCH. Let’s get into that one first. When I try to go back into my lessons (that I’ve already done) the app assumes that I want to go into a further lesson of that. The paid version. I just want to redo the lesson because I haven’t been on the app for a week or two and it doesn’t let me! Please add something asking you if you want to buy the paid version OR start over the lesson! If you add this in a future update I’ll be sure to change it to five stars! Okay, into another one! I don’t believe people should pay to make a project.I cannot do the lessons and it’s really bugging me! I can find other apps who let you do all the lessons without paying for them! The only reason I still use this app is because it is more understandable than any other app. You can keep the different parts of the lessons that you have to buy with Premium but don’t limit whole lessons if you know what I mean. This worked only with my first project, all other projects got limited to me. At least put some more projects that people who don’t pay use! Also add an option to edit your projects. They are useless otherwise. Thank you for taking your time and reading..Version: 4.12

Looks good cost not so goodThis app looks good but you have to pay a monthly fee even though there are free online tutorials that don't look as good as good but are pretty much the same.Version: 2.5.1

Great...but greedyI don’t wish to upset the creators of this app by giving a low grade, because the app is great. It works like any of the better teaching apps out there (Duolingo, etc). Very easy, seemingly full of content. ....However, if you make mistakes three times, you have to wait four hours before you can resume, and if you make another mistake, you’ll have to wait another four hours. Patience is key. OR, you can spend $60 and by the pro. That might not be a big deal to you, but if this app is to encourage betterment in a secondary skill (for many of us folks already working hellacious hours) as to better our lives, I don’t find such a high price-tag warranted. Maybe a $10 flat fee, MAYBE...even though the creators should definitely get paid for a nice app, taking money from poor to lower middle-class folks for something that, even if aced, wouldn’t land anybody an actual job could be considered pretty low, ethically....just saying..Version: 4.46.1

WoahI feel smarter it’s amazing.Version: 4.26

Has potentialI liked the app until I saw the price for the full version... per year..Version: 1.3.1

Wow okI tried it and then it asked me for a rating before it showed me all of the premium stuff. Not worth it, would be really good if it was cheaper tho.....Version: 4.14

Acceptable but flawedYou learn content in a similar fashion to duolingo and other teaching apps. The content is pretty good, and it’s useful for me to go through some coding material I haven’t really touched on in a while. I have paid for subscription, but only due to the offer of half price. I wouldn’t pay the full price for this application because the learning is not deep enough to warrant almost $100AUD. I still receive “Subscribe” demands even after paying for it too which is a little irritating, and also left me confused as to whether the purchase worked successfully..Version: 4.13

I love it but...So I’ve been playing for a solid day and the lessons feel easy to comprehend and fun when you see what you’ve achieved by the end. I’m genuinely enjoying myself and find it so fun, considering this is something I never thought I would pick up and learn. However, Waiting THREE HOURS for every heart is a bit much. Going to sleep and waking up I found I only had three. After a lesson I personally found difficult all of them were gone within ten to twenty minutes. It’s really upsetting when trying to learn a new hobby and even when you want to do it you have to wait a ridiculous amount of time. I know there are payable options but I can’t do that but I found the coins a really helpful element to the app yet they don’t get offered a lot. It would be good if there was a Duolingo-type system so that when you run out of hearts you can do small exercises to gain coins or speed up the time hearts are gained in (since gaining a whole heart will take away from the expensive subscriptions you offer) Without the long waiting time for hearts, this game would have five stars. But I seriously find it so irritating..Version: 4.73.1

It’s more like a gameApp gives a brief description of programming, but not much details. I’m a beginner at the moment, but have studied computer science some twenty years ago and I personally would take this app as game rather than actual learning tool. Simple example: nowhere in the lessons about loops statements like ‘break’ - stops the loop or ‘continue’ - skips iteration are mentioned, not mentioning that ‘else’ can be used as a condition for loop closure with proper output..Version: 5.79.0

Ok but needs c/cpp and rustIt very good but I think SOLOLEARN is better cause it has more programming languages.Version: 6.36.0

First half good. Second half not so muchThe later lessons are explained incredibly poorly. I get it, coding is tricky, and so explaining it in a simple way for beginners to understand can be very hard. But this is just ridiculous how poorly the later lessons are articulated. Especially with the practice segments. With these, it is imperative that the explanation of what you want the user to do is explained in the utmost clarity. And it just isn’t, it’s confusing and messy and half the time I have no idea what it’s even asking me to do. And on top of that, there is a bug which makes the playgrounds unusable because every time I hit space or return, it will stutter and scroll down until what I am typing is no longer in view until I scroll back up. Which is tedious to deal with..Version: 6.5.0

Not enough content for a years’ subscriptionAt first it was interesting and I have learned a basic HTML. Aster completing it I have realised that no other languages are available to learn! Half of the lessons don’t work on the phone so have to use a laptop which prevents it from being a handy «on the go learning». The so called courses are frustrating and don’t add any value to your programming knowledge. It ends up being a guess game as the explanations are often not clear or the question is asking you for something you haven’t learned yet. Also the app is slow and often freezing (once a day at least) If you want to learn- stick to more serious apps..Version: 4.14

Beginners onlyI’m puzzled as to why the app asks your level of experience and then completely ignores it. I’d have assumed it would start with an quick quiz to determine your experience level with each language you chose to learn, but no. I selected the highest level of experience and it still spends the whole first lesson explaining what a variable is and that I must use snake_case. I presume it would be great for beginners. But can’t really test that. Please check other reviews before discounting it because of mine..Version: 6.17.0

Great app but you can’t skip the beginner contentI love the UX of this app but I’m going to uninstall, they don’t give you the option to skip the beginner content even though I put in that I was intermediate before I purchased the subscription and made an account..Version: 5.47.0

Do not download unless you want to payI was only looking to learn a new skill and enjoyed the apps duolingo model that allows you to use it for free with the addition of adds. However, the fact that it takes four hours for a single life to return renders the entire app unusable. Why there isn’t an option to watch ads for more lives (much like other apps) is beyond me. Very interesting idea but poorly executed. A couple of simple tweaks would make it a fantastic way of learning but at the moment it just seems like a way to drain money out of you with a fairly steep subscription price..Version: 4.82.0

Obvious clone of Duolingo but lacking intuitivenessVery odd navigation required of app. I’m constantly finding myself thinking I need to hit the “next” but twice because two subsequent buttons live in the exact same spot for each action to continue a lesson (a UX no-no for mobile devices). Also, questions are way too easy, or too hard because of wording. Getting a question wrong usually attributed to poor grammar in the question (it’s incredibly important to hire a native English speaker to review all material before publishing it), then action required to submit the correct answer requires back tracking, dispute the visibility of the existing multiple choice widgets appearing to still be tappable. It’s ok learning web dev from this app but I don’t think the Duolingo approach necessarily works well. Web dev requires typing out long scripts, where as this app requires adding together canned answers. I feel like by the time i complete all the lessons, I’ll only “know of” the concepts rather than how to actually connect and execute them..Version: 5.5.0

Too much handholdingI like the basic layout and concept of the app. The design is also very nice. However, you are told exactly what to do each step of the way, or given choices that are far too obvious. Challenges are crucial for learning, and the app creates virtually no challenges for you. Rather than say "Achieve result X by putting THIS before THAT", it would be more challenging and more educational to have an instruction in the form "Achieve result X by using what you've learned in this unit" This might be wrong, because I don't know the rules of Pyhon, but I intuit that the app just punished me for doing something logical: I was supposed to write a "while loop" in the form "while variable == True", which I'm pretty sure is equivalent to "while variable", which is what I did. However, I didn't get feedback in the form "that also works, but do it this way instead for now", but rather a mere "that's wrong". Even the early platforms like codecademy have had this good fuzzyness since the beginning..Version: 5.6.0

Unfinished pathwaysI’ve just worked through the SQL path. The app is clear, well structured easy to use. The content is very simplistic. I feel I have only learnt half of what I need however. How do I get data into tables, edit tables, create tables? I need to data into a database before I can work with it! This path seems to be only half finished. I hope at the end of the python path I don’t find I am missing half of the tools set I need there as well?.Version: 4.84.0

Overpriced to not offer full site accessI purchased the pro version because what I read you could use the program on apps or on the site. I prefer to use computer to practice on a keyboard. Then I read you only get the first section of each program on the site. For you to get full access on site you must pay for the super ultra mega version of the program. Doing the work on a computer seems to be the way to go for someone learning from scratch. Train your fingers to reach keys you will use a lot like when you was learning how to type. I like the program but the limited access to it on site would have been a deal breaker if it was made clear..Version: 6.30.0

Learn to make a new websiteThis app can really teach you how to make a website! It can teach you how to make links, buttons and more! Also, you can practice making a website on this app (but requires pro version). But there are some big problems with this app. First, horrible basic spelling. It says ‘color’ when it should be ‘coloUr’. And it should be ‘grey’ when this app says ‘gray’. Secondly, you MUST be very precise! This app doesn’t let you pass even with only capital letter or spelling problem. (Or maybe you MUST be very precise, idk) Third, sometimes it says you’re wrong when you’re actually right. (Or maybe I think that because of the fourth problem) Fourth, when you press ‘see solution’ it doesn’t tell you what you did wrong. They could’ve made things we got wrong to be bold, for example. They only tell you what you need to do to get it right but didn’t even tell you what’s wrong! Overall: 4.5 stars for the positive but minus 1.5 star for all the negative. I would say 3 stars for this app..Version: 4.39

Current version missing the pointTwo weeks ago I loved this app. I paid full price as I liked the UI and the exercises seemed well thought out. It seemed like a newish app and exercises were added weekly. However, this new version has made the core content unusable. New exercises and exercises that I completed months ago have reset and can now cannot be finished any more. So the app has lost the point of its existence. This lack of functionality is apparently the cost of being able to compete with strangers on the internet...at basic programming. Honestly, who gives a monkeys what level I am or if I have used the app more than jackie69. I use this app on the toilet or when feeding my baby to make better use of my time. If I want to compete with strangers there are so many more exciting and free ways that I can find my yum. Get back to your bread and butter. Make it useable again. You ask for a year subscription but currently don’t have enough content to last 3 months. More exercises, more languages, more challenges. Less bandwagony clash of clans gumph. The people who will actually give you money do not care..Version: 4.9

Just an advertisement for the paid versionLooks sleek but the level of access before you have to pay is terrible - not even enough to judge the product..Version: 2.1.8

Was “absolutely free”They used to go upon a heart based system pro allowed removal of hearts but with there recent two updates they’ve changed things and not for the better. The first one they removed projects from the mobile interface the forums filled with complaints & they claimed only 5% of users utilized them hence the reason for removal although they were still accessible on a desktop. Then as of today they made more then half of all projects only available for pro users you can officially no longer access all content unless you pay them, funny if only 5% of your users utilize a feature what’s the point in requiring people to pay for it? I’m sure the next move is to add projects back to mobile but only for pro users. Funny too I was about to buy a year membership but they lost me by requiring me too. Was a great app but now unless you’re gonna pay it’s useless, you can learn more for free using other resources.Version: 6.0.0

ExpensiveVery expensive. I'm not impressed at all..Version: 4.10

Has its usesThis has its uses, but isn’t the best teacher. The program uses the same sort of business model as Duolingo (sorry if you aren’t familiar) with one major caveat: instead of punishing you for missing minor punctuation or accents, which is largely unimportant in language learning but very important in computer language/programming, this app uses purposefully obscure language in its questions as it quizzes you on html. It’s very easy to muddle through, but the purpose is not really to teach you anything new, or get you to think about tags and such in a new way, the purpose is wear down your hearts so you spend money on the app. I don’t mind spending money on a useful app, but so far it seems that I learn a new concept in 15 seconds and then get quizzed on it ad-Infinitum while not really learning anything new. When you simply decide to move on because you learned the lesson, you quickly discover that there is very little depth to the app. HOWEVER - it has been useful to use to learn new concepts and use “private time” in a meaningful way....Version: 4.72

EhhI’m giving it 3 stars because for the things it does teach the lessons are very well extended and puts a lot of practice in I personally find the languages aren’t enough for what if I wanna learn C,C#,C++… I get that they’re all similar and learning just one makes the others slightly easier but I’m looking for a strict C# course and that can’t be offered to me so the app has been rendered useless.Version: 6.41.0

Love the app but too much is locked even with proHave been using the app for a few days working through HTML on both my phone and laptop. I upgraded to the pro version for a year which wasn’t cheap but I wanted to continue on with the courses. Finished html up on my laptop last night and went to start CSS, only to find it locked behind a $225 paywall to access on pc. This feels shady af. I’ll keep using it on my phone but it’s left me feeling a little disappointed..Version: 6.23.0

The course contentIn the beginning when I subscribed, there were a lot of career paths to choose from, but at the moment the only career paths are web development, Python and sql. Another thing I don’t like about the app is that it takes a long time before a lesson is unlocked. You have go over a lesson more than six times before moving to the next stage which is very demotivating for learning. To improve the learning experience, the developers have to allow the projects be done on the desk top In addition the lessons in the app should be done in less time and the main focus should be on the projects to help learners retain information better..Version: 4.79.0

Extremely limited, repetitive and expensiveI think the app is good for beginners like me with no experience in coding at all. But that’s it. If you don’t want to pay £7.99 a month or £60 a year for the pro version, don’t expect to be able to access anything other than basic courses that barely challenge you and consist of basic “tap things we tell you to and expect no explanation”. When you get it wrong, it literally tells you the correct answer to tap. Also expect to wait 4 hours for a SINGLE heart to return. It’s practically unusable without buying their very overpriced pro subscription. If it were cheaper, I would maybe consider it. But I am financially not capable of it due to the pandemic. Unsure why it’s priced so high for what it is. TLDR; only good for killing time until you run out of hearts. Too expensive for very little teaching power..Version: 4.62

Glitchy but you can still learnNot everything works. Sometimes you can leave feedback about the exercise, sometimes you can’t. There’s no option. Some exercises are questionable, a couple don’t make sense. But mostly they’re very easy. You can tell that different parts of the learning program are written by different people. So some parts age just great, others are not that good. Hopefully imperfections will be rectified at some point..Version: 5.53.2

Really...REALLY! Annoying bug..Everything was going well and i’ve decided to upgrade to mimo pro. At that point, my progression was never saving and I had to start over and over again at the same point... I tried to delete and redownload the app but it was always the same. The app is cool, don’t get me wrong. But the fact that I can’t use it as I wish is just very disappointing. (Mimo, if you can fix my bug, i’ll restart to use the app).Version: 4.24

Life / Hearts system is no good currentlyThis app is good for the most part, however considering the fact that it is to be used for beginners wanting to learn different coding pathways (such as HTML or JavaScript), as a beginner myself I find the whole “lives” situation incredibly frustrating. Like others have said before, it presents itself like a Duolingo for coding, this is all fine until you see that you can only make 5 mistakes before you have to wait a few hours before you can try again. My issue with this is that there is no way to earn back lives once you’ve lost them. For example, Duolingo has a premium subscription (just like this app does) which grants users the freedom to make as many mistakes as they want. However, the app also offers a “Practice” option which allows free users to practice previously learnt content to earn back a life. This is a good incentive to ensure that users retain their previously learnt knowledge, as well as continue to use the app frequently. I think this suggestion would bring the review up to 4 or even 5 stars, however for now it remains at a 3 due to the disappointing life system. (Considering this is a free app for the most part, I’m surprised you haven’t added a way to watch an advertisement in order to earn back a heart, as this wouldn’t be the worst thing as users can only currently wait hours to try again.) Please improve the life / hearts system! Thank you..Version: 6.7.0

Few things you could do for freeYou need to pay.Version: 3.0.11

Fun and a little annoyingFabulously made app but the heart thing is a bit silly. Making mistakes is the path to learning, but when you 5 make mistakes you can’t keep playing, it makes you wait for a period of time until you magically have more hearts. Defeats the point really.Version: 4.64

Pushy to buy but not a bad appI liked this app and the free to learn side of it. However I soon deleted it when it started getting pushy and wouldn’t let me proceed without signing up, and then said I had to buy unlimited hearts to continue or wait 2 hours to get one heart. I was right in the middle of a lesson. I don’t like apps that are so pushy and forceful. I appreciate app developers need to be paid but if you’re going to offer something for free, it should be free. Not free until suddenly you have to pay to use it. Do better!.Version: 5.63.1

Get it half price !!Start on a free 14 week trial , cancel at end of that trial and get 50% off a subscription. Feel sorry for anyone who signed up straight away!! All this in the hope you’ll stay. Funny thing is, I would have subscribed initially except for 2 things; 1. No family sharing and 2. Seemed expensive due to no family sharing. Now I won’t subscribe out of principle as the 50% off is only revealed at the end with a threat of lots of adds ahead if you don’t! Imagine if the cheaper deal and perhaps even family sharing were offered up front…. You would have had a subscriber rather than an unfavourable review. Other than that, the app is reasonable for a basic introduction to a few codes..Version: 5.73.0

Good But…I like this app a lot but when doing HTML I try put images in my website that me and my friend are building but no matter what I do it’s does not work. So for now until this is fixed it is three stars..Version: 5.66.0

Earned coins & percent progress bar disappeared after latest updateMimo, im upset the app glitched on me a few minutes ago. Its a new day I decided to do a lesson in the middle of the night bc I stayed up. I’ve changed my goal to regular from serious as I got busier but still want to learn my python stuff to reach my Daily goal. I lost my streak 25th bc Christmas and I’ve been trying to earn daily rewards to repair it for the new year. I did my daily lessons few minutes ago and earned my 20 coins i needed to purchase a streak repair & it wouldnt let me, I got to 407 coins!! It wouldnt let me but the repair, im bummed out now. I was at 387 coins before todays lessons too. After I had enough to fix my lost streak day. And then the glitch happens! Please fix this! Also after updating the app, my circle progress bar with percent on how far I am on the course disappeared from my coding page, I loved seeing it where the lessons are & now I have to click the python drop down menu to see it..Version: 5.64.0

OverpricedBeyond overpriced. Enjoy your one star..Version: 4.22

DisturbingI let my child on this app after one week of the free trial my child said that he saw a creepy face when he got the question wrong dont know if this is true but maybe it is.Version: 5.35.0

Very slowI know that learning this kind of stuff isn’t fast, but making mistakes is one of the best ways to learn and I have made 3 already and now I have to wait 4 hours to make the next one. It makes it way too hard to learn. I’m fine with three hearts but 4 hours to only one heart back?! It takes way too long than it should. I have started the web development course and I have only done one and a half exercises and now I have to wait two more hours to even try do do any more. I get you are trying to push your premium program and I’m totally fine with that but it almost forces you to buy it to be able to get far and not lose interest. Your app is the best I have seen in the way of teaching you but it only teaches you for so long and then you have to wait an entire four hours before you can try to get further. I love this app a lot and everything else so far about it besides this one problem, thank you.Version: 4.41

EhHonestly the app isn’t too bad, lots of things are comprehendible and all but I hate the heart system. Having hearts is fine but it’s brutally unforgiving if you lose all your hearts and have already accidentally skipped a day. There’s no way to save your streak if you’re out of coins and hearts without using real money. 😕 Imo there should be a way, maybe though watching ads or something where you can get hearts back, it’s really demotivating otherwise. Duolingo has a better system imo, wish mimo’s was better..Version: 6.0.0

All the getting started chapters are the sameYhgfj.Version: 3.32

Really nice but…I really appreciate the effort made for this app. Learning a lot, but the exercices that requires some sources on a cellphone can become tricky and not explained. I simply went on and get the solution instead of getting a source image or video. I think this part should be provided as options since it’s part of learning..Version: 6.35.0

Got rid of everything except Python and Web DevelopmentMimo was interesting because it offered introductions to a lot of different subjects and languages (block chain or security, c++, etc.) They had a refer a friend get a week of Pro free that magically stopped working after referring two friends and support wouldn't offer any help. I was forced to upgrade even though I was nearly done with all their Python content but felt okay about it because they had all the other great content. However only a few months later they got rid of all of it. I paid a year subscription for all that and they simply take it away? I'm saddled with it and it's useless for practice or learning about new things..Version: 5.0.0

Thought it was OK, then it broke the second day**Response to developers: I would just keep going until it gets more interesting, but as I said, the software won’t let me keep going without giving my e-mail address. I can’t access further lessons.** It was a pretty boring, because despite asking about my coding experience (which I said was extensive), the five Python lessons I was able to access were all about how variables work. Not exactly rocket science. I thought it would get better. But after the five lessons, I couldn’t access the sixth lesson without logging on through another service or giving my e-mail address. It didn’t actually say I couldn’t continue, it just wouldn’t let me access the next lesson. Also, FYI, the pro subscription is a whopping $100 a year. I wouldn’t consider a subscription in any case, since they are designed to make people accidentally pay for stuff they are no longer using, but that is really steep, too..Version: 6.6.0

Not recommendedLures you in by quizzing you about peanut butter and jelly, and opening doors, then throws you the "pay $6.00" card. Would've been a useful app otherwise.Version: 1.0.3

Nice idea, but not greatLike the concept, but lessons aren’t well taught, only one tip per questions, if you can’t work it out you have to guess and guess and guess again until it happens to work. Result, no new knowledge gained. Disappointing. Recent update didn’t seem to improve anything (despite it specifically claiming to) :(.Version: 3.3

Potentially goodI liked this app, but I would pay money on it if the subscription was on an ACTUAL monthly basis, instead of one big payment every 3 months or 1 year. Shame that too many apps have this model..Version: 2.4.13

Before you buy...I found out AFTER I subscribed that this app requires a lot of work to be completed using Xcode ... on an Apple computer - not great for those of us on other platforms (basically pointless because we can’t complete the practical components). The units are taught in a way that I easily guessed my way through them without really remembering anything. There’s a way to get a refund within 14 days of purchase, but it’s very difficult and conveniently takes longer than the time period allowed. Pretty bummed out by this app..Version: 3.0.1

Surprisingly buggy not very intuitiveI signed up at Pro level and I’m slightly disappointed. I was looking for a good overview of programming to teach me the core concepts and this seemed like a good option. It does have good content that’s aimed at beginners (though I think a slightly younger core audience than me) but I don’t find that anything really ‘sticks’. Most of the lessons are multiple choice or just say things like “type this on this line” gives you a tick and you move on, there’s not much on how and why things need to work in that way. As a result I breeze through and have little idea about what I’ve ‘learnt’. Also for an app that’s about programming I’ve had more technical problems than I’ve had with almost any app ever. It started with the app refusing to recognise that I was signed up at Pro level. Then I had issues where I would finish a lesson and the app wouldn’t unlock the next lesson, I flagged the issue multiple times and contacted customer service but it took them weeks to come back to me, eventually I figured it out myself but installing and reinstalling the app, but I had plenty of lost time where I wasn’t able to learn anything. Since then I’ve had to uninstall and reinstall the app several times over just to get it to work correctly, which doesn’t seem right given I’ve paid for a pricey course..Version: 4.32

Great idea, but not greatToo many poorly written hints and poorly designed tasks. They need to think more carefully about what they want you to learn and whether or not the tasks or questions truly test for that. They dont seem to have done that, so the result is lots of easy, boring, repetitive tasks followed by things you aren’t expecting or that you didn’t realize were absolutely critical to remember (important=strong, when people normally say bold; the specific meanings of attribute, selector and class, where the tasks are impossible to mix up one at a time so you don’t focus on the word but when the hint later assumes you remember the definition of the words you must remember them; it sometimes accepts <br /> for <br> and sometimes does not, even when the result satisfies the stated condition). I’ve also noticed several mistakes in the practice sections. Combine mistakes with hearts and mimo just makes you want to throw your phone. I’m not going to pay to not worry about hearts because of mistakes or poorly written hints..Version: 6.38.0

Rough UpdateThis is still one of the best free programming apps you can invest your time in, however the “roadmap” update removes and limits what was available before. The website vs. app does not translate well when going back and forth between the two. Some thongs are available on one version than the other, issues with attempts not being tracked pr scored properly, rewards not syncing when they should. This feels like a huge step back and has stopped me (for now) from paying the pro price. I do plan on going pro with this app, as it has taught me so much; but they should reconsider having an option to revert to their old layout and create a more fluid experience between desktop and mobile. The lack of continuity and functionality hurts. I still highly recommend this app to anyone above all others out there..Version: 6.2.0

Getting to grips with itSo far I’m enjoying the experience, I have done a bit of website building in the past but not delved into the world of writing html. I received an email from Mimo informing me of the web based learning and challenges so I thought I’d give it a look. Some good little web based projects to hone your skills, however, after purchasing the coding for a year subscription the only web based content I can access is the html basics section. Everything else is behind a ‘max’ paywall that is for me far too expensive to justify paying as a casual learner. Hence the three stars..Version: 6.24.1

So Good But Has Been RUINED 😡This App Is So Good I Was Doing So Well…..Until I Ran Out Of Hearts. I Wanted a good coding experience which I did but hearts ruined it! I Just Wanted a good free experience on coding without paying for premium For Hearts! And Earlier Today! I Ran Out Of Hearts Waited Then! After 2 Minutes Of Playing (1 Heart Every Three Hours without Premium) On the Level I was stuck I lost my heart like bruh..Version: 5.21.0

LanguageIt’s a good app, but the only thing is the language. My cosine is French so she can’t use the app. Please, give options for the language like : French, Chinese, Spanish....Version: 4.80.0

I purchased premium but doesn’t workI had purchased a premium subscription back in September and it was working great and I loved the lesson plans. I was learning and making progress everyday. Recently within the last few weeks it seems to register that I don’t have premium any more, I try and restore purchases and it says I already purchased premium, yet I still can’t access the 2nd and 3rd stars on courses like I was once able to. I contacted support and it literally takes 2-3 days just for a response and that is ridiculous. It’s been over a week now, almost two since I lost the ability to fully access the courses and still no help from support. They told me fixes that were easily found in their FAQ, in my initial email I even said I already tried it. What is their response to fixing my issue? Of course it was try the thing that I already did and told them I did! This review is more of a review of support and their ability to fix my problem more than it is a review of the actual content of the app. When it worked it worked great, I loved the courses and layout. But when it stops working, finding help or at least a little transparency is an impossible task..Version: 4.14

Waste of time and moneyMimo could be a helpful app, but it’s buggy, crashes continuously and devalues usage by rewarding new starters with higher value points while Pro users need to continuously spend coins to achieve same result. After a 24 month evaluation period monitoring 6 accounts, this has resulted in my students losing knowledge, inaccurate syntax, increasing anxiety and serious mental health outcomes in one student. The leaderboard element has resulted in users targeting and harassing students via other social networks. Other free learning tools have garnered better results. Please keep working on this app, but it’s neither competitively viable nor effective at current stage of development..Version: 5.69.0

Be careful before adding payment infoCharged my debit card straight away without notifying in advance, unable to delete my debit card from their site, be careful sharing such information with such apps..Version: 5.74.1

APPLE, Listen, Seriously.I almost did it again today, Apple! are you a fine print company where WE have to scrutinize every purchase or download I make in the App Store?!? This time with the app Smart Cleaner, you had better post highly visible opt-in notices for your “free” apps that post subscriptions to users credit cards or let yourself in for class actions. If I hadn’t scrolled a little further and tapped on the ‘very fine print’ I would not have known that Smart Cleaner would have been charging me ~$5/week for something i’d use twice a year, $30/per use! I would have liked to check mimo out but am afraid if I breath near their app it would cost me $10, seriously a defeatured free version is better than kind-of tricking some users into a subscription. There's a hidden fee, maybe annual, of $80 that they hit me with AND I NEVER USED IT, not once!! Now I have to hope Apple maybe/might refund me through their text-us-and-hope customer anti-service department. All charges NEED to be verified, and twice as much when it is a substantive charge, $80 is that for most people. My god Apple, I never bought an app for $20, i'd have thought you'd have flagged me or something. This hurts my budget, while others would go hungry because of BS like this. Seriously this deserves class action attention if it is the only way to get these theives attention, Mimo and Apple..Version: 4.48

Thin content, then expensiveThe free content is very thin and the premium version is expensive compared to the alternatives. Look elsewhere until pricing improves..Version: 6.38.0

Not worth buying.Slightly more stable, slightly more content. App has potential with “gameifying” coding learning, but often gets answers incorrect, sometimes crashes part way through sections. Python and basic web design are only topics with any substance. Poor implementation to cancel fairly expensive subscription..Version: 4.57
