Blink Shell 14: Legacy for Negative User Reviews

Much less stable since the switch to libsshSince Blink was moved over to using libssh in a recent update, I've found its session handling to be much less stable. Sometimes I randomly get disconnected when trying to log in, other times I get stuck in a strange state where my keyboard input is half-switched between a local Blink prompt and my actual remote SSH session, and other times it just fails with weird errors when connecting and then works if you try it again. I'm sure they had their reasons for doing this, but regardless, it's made for a less pleasant user experience for sure..Version: 12.3

Scp and sftp are unusableScp doesn’t bother asking for the key passphrase. For all I know, it can’t even find the SSH key, as it’s not in the .ssh directory. Does not provide a real shell, so eval `ssh-agent` is impossible. Changing the key passphrase in the config command is impossible as the option is unmplemented. ssh-keygen -p crashes the app outright. For whatever reason, SSH key files aren’t in the standard .ssh directory. sftp is literally just a copy of the same broken scp program, not an actual SFTP client. This sort of fakery is completely unjustified. It makes the app look much better on an initial viewing without deserving that..Version: 12.8

£20 and the keyboard floats 2cm above bottom of the screenIf I swipe left/right to swap between terminals, the keyboard redraws about 2cm above the bottom edge and is no longer at the bottom of the screen, and valuable screen space is lost. Just black coloured empty space..Version: 8.026

Terrible appThis have to be one of the worse app I have ever came across of. Very poorly designed and not worth it at all..Version: 13.5.7

Current version drops and hangs mosh connectonsThe previous version of Blink was great -- I can open a mosh connection, switch to other apps, and switch back to resume working on a remote machine. After upgrading to the current version, the connection hangs when I switch back to blink after using a few other apps (e.g., Chrome, then Slack). This forces me to create a new window + mosh connection in order to resume my tmux session. However, this leaves increasing numbers of detached mosh connections on the server, and I have to periodically run "killall mosh-server" to clean things up. Would not recommend upgrading since the features did not appear to increase..Version: 12.1

Key Transmission is not as ExpectedEDIT2: 7-Nov-2019 Caps as CTRL is not working again. Not sure what is going on, tried the following: 1. Check caps-as-ctrl + uncheck caps modifier 2. Check caps-as-ctrl + set caps as CTRL in modifier 3. disable caps + try (1, 2) from above. EDIT: emacs undo now works! Thanks devs! Screen rotation issue also seems mostly fixed! Great ssh + mosh app. Recommended. While it's great that the developer offers key-remapping some keys like Ctrl+/ (undo in emacs) do not work as intended. This prevents it from being the 'pro emacs' 20$ app toted by the devs. There are a few other key transmission issues as well (see GH-issues page). This, plus there are a ton of resizing issues where 1/4 - 1/2 of the screen is non-usable until a new session is started. Resizing should be a trivial problem to solve. Please resolve this! Overpriced for a terminal program that cant resize properly and can't transmit vanilla key-bindings..Version: 13.0

On screen keyboard doesn’t go awayOn screen keyboard doesn’t go away when using a physical (microsoft) keyboard, even though the descriptions say otherwise. The screenshots are also misleading as there is no way whatsoever you can interact with the terminal while getting the full viewport without either the docked on screen keyboard or the floating keyboard blocking the view. Absolutely useless. JSLinux based terminals in the browser, or browser based serial consoles that vm/cloud providers provide can be interacted with in a sane manner without the keyboard blocking the view. Please refund now. P.s. please don’t tell me that my bluetooth keyboard which works correctly even with my refrigerator is the problem..Version: 13.3

Use with monitorCurrently Blink does not work with an external monitor connected to ipad with Apple’s lightning to HDMI adapter. It does work with a different adapter and/or when Blink is one of two apps in a Split View..Version: 12.10

How to copy/paste?Not sure how to copy/paste.Version: 13.3

Nice shell but not useful to copy files in my experienceI was initially really impressed and will probably still use Blink to access remote servers. However, what I specifically purchased it to do was to upload files to servers while on the road and at that it has failed miserably. I’ve spent hours trying every variation of scp and raw curl commands since that is the underlying command it is using. I’ve removed passphrases from my keys I’ve done everything but enable passwords on my server and set the password to 1234. Using the same key that works perfectly to ssh, I continually get “Authentication Failure”. I almost gave it two stars for being a decent ssh client, but even that crashes regularly..Version: 12.10

Good ShellGiven the price this should be getting a lot more updates. works ok but buggy since iOS 11 especially with features like split screen on iPad Pro..Version: 9.014

✌️ swipe up not workingHello there, I’m frustrated right now. With two fingers swipe up not working on iOS 13 it became almost impossible to use your app on iPhone (i.e. without external keyboard). Please fix it! Thank you!.Version: 12.10

PoorSadly doesn’t work with my connection to AWS due to poor management of keys - don’t waste your money.Version: 13.5.6

A terminal with no killer featuresAs a non-dev who uses SSH and SFTP to provide remote support I found Blink to be utterly lacking in any killer features. No snippet support, no easy SFTP support, no basic GUI if you wanted to use it. Apart from the dev-friendly code command there really is nothing more that a terminal. Support is by Twitter or Github so never answer questions, the docs are awful and just like the app the whole thing is a bit of a mess. They offer a "community edition" which is nothing more that a testflight version of the app. As a dev platform I imagine it's good but for the rest of the world there are many more good reasons why Termius is a much better choice. Save your cash and bypass Blink..Version: 14.0.6

Broken for IPv6I was very excited. It seemed amazing. Then I try to connect to an IPv6 enabled server and no go..Version: 4.0

App is crap. None of the file transfer options work.I and many others paid a lot of money (as far as apps are concerned) for this program and none of the file transfer options work. So SCP, SFTP, none of them work for transferring files from the shell to the various remote computers. It’s basically completely worthless now. It worked when I bought it but after an update about three months in, none of it works anymore. It’s some issue in libcurl but even still, this is something that needs to be made a priority for those of use that didn’t install from github. Pretty upset about this frankly. Don’t waste any of your money. There are many other shells out there where file transfer actually works..Version: 13.3

Desperately needs link following supportInability to launch links in Safari is Killing the usefulness of this terminal necessitating a need to open connection in a competitor product. Please add this feature, we have been waiting literally years..Version: 12.1

Expensive and crashes oftenFor the price I was hoping for something more stable. App often crashes when returning to a session that was running in the background. Features are good even if operation is a little unclear at first (type "help" and hit Return) I'll keep the app in the hope that it receives regular updates. For £15 and the advertised "desktop-class performance" I was expecting something reliable that I could use regularly. Fingers crossed it gets there eventually..Version: 2.0

Making my iPad my ONLY computerI’m a web developer and this has allowed me to make my iPad my only computer. Using Mosh I can get on my Digital Ocean droplet and work on my client sites without any hassle, usually. With the latest update on October 31 2019, Blink has become very unstable. Keys simply don’t register correctly through to my VPS so I can’t type keys like Shift, or ; or a number of other things. Blink is awesome, but beware it seems to be in a bit of a buggy state right now..Version: 13.0

Works okCan’t import a key from clipboard, doesn’t show me where the keys are stored. Can’t connect to my google server but I can connect to digital oceans. Not sure why probably googles fault. Overpriced..Version: 12.1

You broke my favorite featureI have been using Termius for awhile, since they implemented my favorite feature from Blink. On the iPad smart keyboard, using the stupid caps lock key as control modified. I just tried Blink a few minutes ago, and here is what I see: The 'Tab' key prints some sort of special unicode character (copyright or at sign). The CapsLock key properly maps to 'Ctrl', but then any key-presses are not echoed. Although these keypresses aren't echoed, they are taken as keystrokes. If you press CapsLock again, it is back to normal. This effectively makes the CapsLock keyswap with Ctrl unusable. I do not even think the Tab key works out of the box. Just to verify this wasn't an iPadOS bug, I upgraded from iPadOS 13.1.3 to 13.2.2. Some improvements with the 'tab' key, but caps lock mapping still not quite right. I have diagnosed the issue. The mapping between Caps Lock and Control is functioning properly. However, the CapsLock key, whether mapped or not, is acting as a toggle key. So, if you press 'CapsLock-A' it properly goes to the beginning of the line (emacs mode). However, if you now press 'F' 'F' 'F' it goes forward one character at a time. The same is true for 'U' (clear line) and 'C' (INTR). If you then press the CapsLock key again, the 'Lock' is toggled off..Version: 13.0
