Plant Light Meter for Negative User Reviews

Super Easy, Wildly InaccurateThe only thing you’re achieving by pointing the lens toward the foliage, is a very inaccurate measurement of how much light is bouncing away from the leaves. You definitely need to be measuring the light from the source direction. Plants don’t look at other plants to see how bright they are, they grow toward the sun. Example - super bright all day room from S facing window registers as low light. Checking this against hardware and other sources says the total opposite. According to this app I might be able to grow snake plant. In actuality I can grow everything that requires full sun. This is simple and too easy to use and probably designed for people of the same suit. I would recommend to anyone slightly interested in looking after their plants to do a little research and do things properly. Don’t waste your moolah!.Version: 2.0.3

Wish I hadn’t paid before tryingIt’s a cool concept, but it’s got a limited list of plants to check from and half of mine aren’t on it. This was recommended online as a free app, I wish I’d have tried it before paying..Version: 3.20.1

HATE THE UPDATEGo back to the old version, it worked so much better. This one is entirely not accurate!! BOOOOOOOO I would not have paid for it had I known they would entirely change it..Version: 2.0.3

I d les plantes!Faudrait aussi identifier les plantes.Version: 1.0.0

Totally inaccurateI’ve had a kitchen full of flourishing plants for the past year - golden pothos, philodendrons, monsteras and quite a few others. Typically these like medium - low indirect light. Per this app, my lighting in my kitchen is “very low” where “no planes can survive for long.” Obviously, this is totally wrong. I also pointed the app directly at my full spectrum grow lights and also got the reading “very low.” Don’t waste your dollar this is app is a joke..Version: 1.1.3

DoubtfulIn direct sunlight it goes back and forth between medium and high. DIRECT. SUNLIGHT. It’s very easy to use but I don’t feel it’s very accurate.Version: 1.1.2

Don’t waste your moneyBought this because it has decent reviews. Should have read more carefully, as it seems like it was better before an update. In any case, it’s useless. How can a plant right next to a west facing window get a reading of low?? Makes no sense. Don’t bother getting this app..Version: 2.0.2

It isn’t workingI paid for this app and no matter how much light I point my phone at it gives me “very low.” Even when I was outside on a sunny day! 👎🏼.Version: 1.1.3

Very poor app.I live in a very bright flat and it keeps telling me I have super poor light. I’ve followed all the steps to make sure it’s not me. Honestly, what a waste of money. I think it just tells you random things depending on the shade of green your plant displays. Do not buy..Version: 2.0.3

It should use the front camera to measure the lightThe fact that it only uses the back camera to measure light it makes no sense - how you read the light when you have to turn your phone down to use it - seems like they didn’t put much thought on the user experience or even use their product themselves.Version: 1.1.1

Update is trashNew update broke this app completely garbage now not accurate at all.Version: 2.0.3

Everything is too lowI’m confused, every single reading in my house is reading too low, even in the brightest rooms in my house. This seems like a waste of money, considering I have plants all over and nothing has died due to inappropriate light..Version: 2.0.3

Not happyApp add shows light levels measured in footcandles but when I downloaded its in lux? No link to show how to change this..Version: 1.1.1

Waste of moneyUnless you hold it to a lightbulb it will tell you ‘Low Light’. Wasted my money on this!.Version: 1.1.1

Don’t botherCollect names and emails to measure light ? No thanks.Version: 3.3.0

New version suxsEverything reads low light .. it makes no sense.. if I point it at the plants foliage is it telling what light is best for the plant or what light it is getting. I liked when you point it at the light source it made more sense..Version: 2.0.3

Haven’t been able to use itIt needs access to my camera and I haven’t been able to allow it?.Version: 1.0.0

I don’t think it’s accurateI love my plants so I went to get this app to see how much light they are getting so far it registers low light on all of them in spite of different location and time of the day I had been checking. It keeps registering low light. What a waste of money!!.Version: 2.0.3

Great app, but I wish it used the front cameraBeautiful app, but it uses the rear camera to measure light levels, not the front facing (selfie) camera! The rear camera might be useful if the light were coming from the ground, but usually it comes from above. The front camera would make using the app much more intuitive, because you could just hold the phone near the plant and see what it says on the screen — the phone would get the same light as a leaf. At present though, using the rear camera, you have to point the back of phone up towards the light and then try to read the screen, which now faces down, from underneath. A simple change would make this app a perfect five stars..Version: 1.1.1

This is a compassThis is stupid. I have a compass on my phone. This is no different than a compass. I want my dollar back It does not actually measure light intensity (wanted to test it on the LED lights I got for my hydroponics).Version: 1.1.3

Idk what app everyone else is usingMy room gets I would personally say medium light and I tested it out and it said “very low.” I decided to really put it to the test by going to the brightest south facing window in my house and it said “low” still. Then I put it directly at the sun and it said “medium.” To me it seems off and it’s a waste of money just use your eyeballs to tell.Version: 1.1.2

Loved it before the updateIt was so helpful before the recent update. When I moved into my new place a year ago it helped me figure out my lighting and where my plants, new and old, could thrive. And it worked! This new update is—and I don’t say this lightly—trash. It reads low or too low for every one of my plants, many of which the app told me before (and I know is true) are in bright or medium light. Pretty bummed to not have this tool at my disposal anymore!.Version: 2.0.2

BewareBought it and it doesn’t tell exact numbers, way off from normal meters you regularly buy.Version: 3.20.1

Pretty rubbishSave your $.Version: 1.1.1

[Insert word for terrible]This is light meter is severely inaccurate. The light level dramatically changes from “very low” to “high” with incredibly small changes to the phones angle despite being in the exact same spot in the room. Don’t waste your money..Version: 1.1.0

Waste of moneyShows everything inside as too low light, followed directions exactly still doesn’t work..Version: 2.0.3

Missing common plant!Cannabis plant is not one of the available options. 😕.Version: 3.20.0

Not compatible with new iPhonesThis app worked on my iPhone 6s but not on th iPhone 11. They need to update access to the camera in the new iPhone protocols. Don’t Buy!.Version: 1.1.2

Don’t waste your MoneyI should have read reviews rather than rely of star ratings which is artificially inflated by fake reviews. Every thing is low or barely medium. Even in bright sunlight outside!!!.Version: 2.0.3

At least it was only $1Reads as very low even when pointing out the window on a sunny day..Version: 1.1.1

Almost thereI like it, but a numerable value would be nice, and it would be nice to be able to flip the camera..Version: 1.1.2

Not compatible with iPhone XsUpgraded from an iPhone 7plus and I can’t allow this app access to my camera. The app doesn’t even show in Apple settings. Please fix this issue bc the app works great...or at least it used to.Version: 1.0.0

Doesn’t work.Always says low light even when in direct sunlight..Version: 1.1.1

Doesn’t workWorthless if you’re going to spend money get lux pro.Version: 1.0.0

Direction not correctDirections off by a degree.Version: 1.1.1

Doesn’t workI wish I would have read the reviews before wasting my money. Shows low or very low even when pointed straight toward a grow light lamp ....Version: 1.1.1

Doesn’t workDoesn’t work don’t waste the money.Version: 1.1.2

Doesn’t work for me at allIt just reads “very low” no matter what the light level is. Even in full sun..Version: 1.1.1

Not as picturedThe app preview shows the light measurement in fc, but my version only uses lux. It’s very basic with no settings function etc. If you’re looking for lux this could work..Version: 1.1.2

Don’t waste your moneyBought this to help me figure out if certain places in my home were good for particular plants, and even in a bright window, it tells me “too low”....doesn’t make sense. Wish I didn’t buy..Version: 2.0.3

I don’t like the updateI don’t like the update! Now you have to take individual shots of foliage and there is no information without it. Before it was easier to move around and see where/what position provided what light strength. I am deleting this app because there isn’t even an option to go back to this or remove this version! So disappointing! I loved it before!.Version: 2.0.0

Too simpleOnly gives 4 light levels with fc in fine print. No help on how to select front or back camera. Much better and free Lux meter apps available..Version: 1.0.0

Definitely InacurrateTo get an idea of accuracy, I tested this on a few of my plants in a very sunny, bright south-facing window. The app read all as being in low light. Definitely won’t be using this further!.Version: 2.0.1

New version extremely inaccurate**Do not buy the update broke it.** The original version was a bit tricky position, but it worked. In the new version the app attempts to take a reflective light reading instead of an ambient one, but it’s wildly inaccurate. Plants sitting on the window sill in direct sun often read as if they had lower light then plants 4-6 feet away from the nearest window. Plants with darker coloration read as if they have less light then plants directly next to them. The app also no longer supports plants with variegated or colorful leaves..Version: 2.0.0

Not accurateI pointed the camera at the leaves of all of the plants in my very bright southwest sunroom. It read anywhere from too low-medium which is by no means accurate. When I hold my phone in front of the leaves but point the camera out towards the light I finally get a reading of bright, which I know the room to be. The room is full of cacti, succulents, and palms- all of which love bright light- and they are all thriving. Clearly there is more than enough light for the room to be considered bright but the app doesn’t read as such. I’m glad it was only $.99 to find out but still a rip off. Save your money..Version: 2.0.2

Measures the color of your leaves, not the amount of light.I have 2 plants in the exact same location. One is a light green and one is dark green. The app says the dark green one is in medium light & the lighter green one is high light. This app is obviously just measuring the darkness of the plant’s color, not the actual amount of light it is receiving..Version: 2.0.3

Not accurateSays I have medium light when I’m outside in full sun!.Version: 1.1.1

SettingsUnable to chance from Lux to FC. No setting option.Version: 1.1.1

I sighIt's a circular failure: Plant Light needs Camera access. Have at, says I. Here's your settings, says Plant Light. Ok, where do I find the permission? ask I I'm not telling, answers Settings. I dunno, shrugs Plant Light. Allow plant light app camera access? I ask Google Light meter for plants, responds Google More apps? 🔽 asks Google It worked before, I sigh. I don't know..Version: 1.1.2

New phone, no appDon’t we love it when we can buy an application, and not have it work?? Well, that’s what happened to me. Yeah, I was just able to waste my money😾 This worked on my old iPhone 7plus, but not my new iPhone X. Gave this one star, since it works on older phones..Version: 1.0.0
