WeCroak for Negative User Reviews

Nice idea, needs some of the basicsI like that it badgers you five times a day. Come on though, at least let us share the quotes without having to screenshot them! And a widget wouldn’t hurt..Version: 1.15

Just OKIt’s a neat idea, and about half of the quotes resonate for me. I was initially annoyed to have zero control over the frequency or timing of notifications (choices are the default 5/day at random times or to delete the app), so I chose to disallow notifications..Version: 1.24

WhyYou have quotes that have literally nothing to do with death and it’s pathetic you have a Jim Morrison quote saying “I like people who shake other people up and make them feel uncomfortbatle” in every sense of the word ‘death’ this quote has nothing to do with it and it’s pathetic and I almost unsubscribed because of it and if the quote tomorrow has nothing to do with death I will intact delete it..Version: 2.69

Not worth $1-$2Disappointed with the quotes.Version: 1.14

Don’t like itThe sayings that bleep though are not uplifting or asking us to enjoy life. They are depressing! Eg Mr X has a gaping hole in his cheek that he covers with gauze daily. Errr not nice. Thank you. Perhaps try to make us NOT suicidal..Version: 0.96

BogusNone of the cited authors are speaking from experience..Version: 3.2.0

Love the concept, not the app.Love the concept, but not the app. Instead of forcing us to click the app each time we get a notification, can you just have it so it notifies us ahead of time a quick snippet of the app? Also, make a widget for it so that I can read these quotes when I look at my calendar..Version: 1.15

RecyclingI have had this for about a month and they are already recycling quotes.Version: 1.14

Cool concept, good price, needs workOverall I really like the simplicity of this app in the concept (no ads, no social media, no requests for reviews), but there are definitely improvements that need to be made. Primarily, not all of the quotes are that great and it seems like there isn’t the best filtering process in place. For example, one of my recent quotes was from David Hogg (from the Parkland shooting): “Don’t lie to us. Don’t make any more false promises, because when you do, children die.” Outside of the fact that the word “die” is used, that quote has absolutely nothing to do with contemplating death. It’s a political statement, that means nothing without context. The only thing I can reason to how something like this pops up is that they are scouring the web for quotes, and using buzzword searches to find quotes about death. It’s $1 though, and the simple notification that “Remember you’re going to die” that you get five times a day, accomplishes the goal of the app. So overall, good not great. Suggestion for the app creators: A save feature that you can use to save your favorite quotes that pop up and revisit them. That would be amazing!.Version: 1.19

Bad QuotesThe other reviewers are right. At least 1/3 of the quotes I’ve seen don’t make sense. Another significant fraction of quotes relate to death, but don’t inspire me to contemplate my own death or life. For example my current quote : “It concerns the death of Anna Katharina Ehmer, a 26 year old woman with severe mental disabilities who lived in an institution for people with mental disorders, and who allegedly never spoken a single word during her life. Yet, she was reported to have sung dying songs for a half hour before she died.” Maybe this quote was badly translated from another language to English and it was probably taken out of context, but all I contemplated was how badly written this was and how creepy it sounded. This app provides mostly distracting quotes and nothing at all useful for regular mindfulness or anything at all like that. It inspires the opposite of contemplation of death because of the distracting quotes. This app needs to croak, but the idea was solid..Version: 1.19

We brokePaid money, installed app, didn’t function at all. Lovely concept, but it just didn’t work. Giving it an extra star because I still thought about death each time I tried to get it to do anything. Would love a refund..Version: 1.50

Stopped working after a week or soI purchased this app about six months ago. It was very basic but I was happy with the purchase as it used to deliver the quotes to my Apple Watch couple of times per day. It then suddenly stopped working, guessing due to an update. The app now keeps asking me to subscribe for a paid monthly subscription, which is odd as I thought I had bought the app already. It also stopped delivering the quotes to my Apple Watch making me have to specifically open the app couple of times per day to read them which isn’t a great user experience I have to confess. Will probably ask Apple for refund..Version: 2.10

Pay Once > Monthly SubscriptionI think this app has a neat idea going for it yet the app should only charge once a certain amount of money to have access to everything instead of adding another subscription payment in a world where it’s already hard to manage so many subscription services, adding one more doesn’t help. Specially when the point of the app is to encourage people to live their live with fulfillment something that can’t be done if we spent a portion of our time tracking how many subscriptions we have and when and where our money will go. The app is not worth a subscription of 2 bucks a month for a few reminders that our clock is ticking Cheers, Raul.Version: 2.71.2

DisappointedI was hoping for wise and insightful quotes pertaining to death. Instead there are quotes from Zoolander and the like. Not what I expected when I paid for this app..Version: 0.98

MehIt’s a good idea but it’s so buggy. Seems to work for a week or so and then notifications just stop. You have to keep deleting and reinstalling for it to actually work. Have contacted support and heard nothing back. Save your money and write memento mori on the back of your hand..Version: 1.15

Fell out of love with this appI used to really love WeCroak. It’s wonderful selection of quotes sometimes had me thinking of them all day. However, they couldn’t resist getting political. For example, I just don’t know what insight the quote from the 28 year old Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has to offer on my mortality. The funny thing is I don’t necessarily disagree with the politics. It’s just poor taste to have it in this app. Don’t need to pay the app price for more political patronizing. It is free just about everywhere else..Version: 1.25

Great concept, poor executionI love the idea of this app and have had it for a few years but frankly it’s a bit silly now. The quotes that pop up are more and more completely unrelated to the subject of death and more and more celebrity oriented rather than serious Buddhist thought or philosophers in general. Sorry but Dolly Parton isn’t my go-to sage for pondering my inevitable death..Version: 3.1.2

We CroakGreat app but you need to also have a close option on the quote screen!.Version: 1.10

Not very functional appI know, what do you expect for ninety nine cents. But this must have been written by a novice programmer. I was in a meeting all day, off my phone. I had five contacts but could only open one. You can’t go back and open past ones. Most of the sayings are not that moving or worth saving. Only way to save is a screen shot. Out of about twenty so far, I screensaved only one..Version: 1.14

It’s fineThe quotes aren’t all about death and I was assuming they would be. I was thinking this app would remind me of the impermanence of life and that everything could end in a moment, but so far, after having this app a few days, the quotes haven’t been what I expected. I was hoping for more “darker” or “real” quotes about life and death, but only a few so far have been like that - was hoping for more to remind me that death is imminent and that life is fleeting. It would also be nice to have the quote in the notification instead of a reminder notification that prompts me to open the app to see the quote..Version: 0.70

Too leftistLoved the app. Really did. Recommended it to my friends and many got it. Recently, the quotes have taken a severe left turn. AOC? The charlatan Hogg? Did the developers run out of the collected works of brilliant minds in all of history? Got another meaningless quote from aoc. “We have a responsibility to advance our moral technology” how does that vacuous non-sequitur possibly fit in the stated premise of the app? Your biases are showing. I don’t mind brilliant leftist/Marxist theorists from the golden age of that ideology, aoc does not fit that definition. On more quote and I’m deleting the app and demanding a refund. Isn’t balance a principal of Buddhism? Fail..Version: 1.19

Missing too muchI like the idea of the app. I get a banner across my phone reminding me I’m going to die gives me a chuckle. However, if I can’t stop and look at the app then and forget, when the next one comes up I lose the previous one whether I’ve read it or not. 1) Can we please look at the older ones - at least be able to read all ones of one day. But I’d prefer to be able look at all the ones I’ve received. 2) It would great to be able to forward them to someone - easily 3) It would be nice if the banner stayed on my phone until I opened the app. All my other banners stay unless I open the app or delete the banner. Otherwise, I’ve been enjoying the app..Version: 1.10

Important subject, weak contentJust learned they offer “harder hitting quotes” in the paid subscription which wouldn’t be difficult considering the weak ones that come free. Some of them - often repeated - appear to be randomly selected, not really pertinent. I’d consider a subscription if the free version wasn’t underwhelming because this is an essential tool for a good life..Version: 3.1.2

Novel idea (with some suggestions)I like the idea behind WeCroak and I enjoy reading the quotes each day. However, I would like to see some variety in how the notifications are phrased. Seeing the same exact notification five times per day weakens it’s effectiveness. Also, I would love the functionality to be able to review past quotes and save them. Currently, I’m relying on taking screenshots if I want to preserve a quote. Cheers!.Version: 1.10

Needs some workMost days it’s gives me all 5 quotes within an hour or so at the end of the day, sometimes less than a minute apart so I can’t even read the first one! Most of the quotes don’t make sense, why are there quotes about drag queens? Maybe 1/3rd of it is actually helpful and I wish there were an option for me to submit quotes I find in books or music, could be helpful..Version: 1.19

Not badDoes what it says, really a great idea. I agree with the last review that the quotes are very repetitive. I would like to see an option to turn off the quotes when asleep. I don’t need reminders of anything at 3 am!.Version: 1.10

Great under 30Stupidest app I have bought to date. Today’s quote was from Paris Hilton. It is made for kids not real adults. If real adults needs this they are beyond help..Version: 1.19

Please, not so many messages!Turns out that receiving 5 death reminders a day doesn’t bring happiness — it brings irritation! Five feels like I’m being continual interrupted. Three a day would be ideal. Three would allow me the time to be surprised by each reminder & to savor each quote. If I can’t find a way to reduce the number of reminders, I’m canceling the service. I want to feel inspired, not harassed..Version: 1.12

Deep and meaningful twaddle.........save your money!.Version: 0.86

Acceptable executionI like the idea of an app that reminds me of my death with relevant quotes. I think the app could be better, though: Should show quote in notification preview. Should show source, not just author, of quotes. Feels like it lacks strong editorialship of quotes. What does this quote have to do with death (other that in some sense everything human has to do with death)? “Ironically, we have traded one constancy for another. We have lost the constancy of the stars but gained the constancy of energy. The first is a physical object, the second a concept. Scientists cannot prove without a doubt that the total energy in a closed system is constant. But any violation of that principle would destroy the foundations of physics and suggest an unlawful universe. The idea of a lawful universe is itself an Absolute.” Why would you select this quote from Lightman instead? “The material of the doomed stars and the material of my doomed body are actually the same material. Literally the same atoms… It is astonishing but true that if I could attach a small tag to each of the atoms of my body and travel with them backward in time, I would find that those atoms originated in particular stars in the sky. Those exact atoms.”.Version: 0.97
