What is Tempi – Live Beat Detection? Description of Tempi – Live Beat Detection 1755 chars
Tempi measures you and your entire band’s tempo live, while you play, and lets you analyze the performance when you’re done. It's like a reverse metronome.
* Tempi listens while you (or your entire band) play.
* Tempi reports the BPM (beats per minute) of your performance in real time with remarkable accuracy.
* When you’re done, Tempi lets you analyze the recording so that problem areas can be pinpointed and improved.
* Use Tap for Tempo to quickly get a BPM reading at any time.
* Switch themes for easy nighttime use or just to suit your style.
* Recording sessions can be saved for later analysis.
* Export the audio recording of your performance to keep or share with others.
HOW TO USE
In a band setting, place the iPhone or iPad in a position where the entire band can see it so everyone will know when the band is speeding up or slowing down. When you’re done playing the song, press the stop button to analyze the performance. You can scroll through the entire song, isolate where the tempo sped up or slowed down, and play back the song to get an idea of what went wrong.
Tempi is great for individual practice too. Use it instead of a metronome while practicing to pinpoint problem areas in a piece of music that you’re learning. If you can play through an entire song with the tempo only changing by 1 or 2 BPMs, you’ve arrived :-)
Tempi works best when there’s a distinct “pulse” to the song, like a kick drum/snare or a repeating chord, and assumes the player is trying to play at a consistent tempo. With less structured music it still does quite well but may occasionally report incorrect tempos.
If your song is very fast or very slow, tap the button at the top right to toggle between 1/2x, 1x, and 2x tempos.

Tempi – Live Beat Detection Pros
✓ Every Drummer should have this.I use this live every night to make sure my tempos are right to match up with any sequenced phrases that I use during the night. Also, if anyone in the band says “you’re playing too fast” or “too slow” I can check to make sure my tempo is the same as it was the night before and the night before that. If this were a standalone piece of hardware, with a count off feature, every drummer would buy it..Version: 1.2.2
✓ Tempi Beat DetectorVery nice product. I play guitar without a drummer (fingerpick and strum mostly) and it seems to be pretty accurate. As I tend to speed up during a performance, I suggest adding a visual bar across the screen that changes color if I slow down or speed up outside of a predetermined BPM. For example, if it is red I need to speed up, if green I am within an acceptable range of BPM, and if blue I need to slow down. That would be much easier and quicker to interpret if using at practice or on stage. I did suggest this as an improvement through the app's "Contact Us" link. If you like the idea, please let them know..Version: 1.2.1

✗ Nice idea, but…It doesn’t work. Placed phone right next to drum kit playing snare only and it wasn’t anywhere in the ballpark. Was playing 90 bpm and it registered as 118. Slowed playing down to 65 and it registered as 127. Sped up and it was up and down from 72 to 110. Played a song from YouTube and it was all over the place on a simple steady beat. Not sure if something changed recently or if it’s related to phone hardware or OS version. I’m on a 13 Pro using iOS 15.5. Plenty of good reviews on here so I’m just surprised it works so poorly. Waste of $6 🙄.Version: 2.1
✗ Live tempo detection IF you record everythingNot a great tempometer. If you want to record your performances you can receive a running live tempo read out. This could be cool for reviewing your performances. But if you don’t want to commit memory resources and just want a live tempo reference…this is not the app for you. Expensive too..Version: 2.5
