Curable for Negative User Reviews

This app is a SCAM which preys on the desperate and vulnerableI downloaded this app a couple years ago when I was depressed and had chronic pain. This app did nothing for me- very patronising and only care about making money. I got better of my own accord and today (2 years on) I got another £60 taken from my bank account for this subscription I forgot to cancel because I was mentally ill. They state in the terms and conditions I cannot get a refund even though I literally got charged today and don’t have a desire to use the app. Don’t believe the high ratings , they are probably paying people to write them for marketing purposes. This app is another example of a money making machine that is taking advantage of sick and vulnerable people..Version: 4.13

Nerve wrackingI canNOT believe that an app dealing with the nerve system has such a $&£%ing BEEEEEEP!!!!!! NO THANK YOU!!!.Version: 4.1

ABLEISM IN AN APPI downloaded this app for reviewing purpose. As a disabled person with a generic connective tissue disorder, and as a disability rights activist, I needed to see if this was as bad as the awful, ableist name suggested. (We don't need to be fixed, and most of us simply cannot be cured.) It is. It has taken the actual sciences of the ACEs study, neurofeedback therapy, and other pain MANAGEMENT methods and packaged them as a "trick yourself OUT of pain because it's not a permanent condition" solution. This is incredibly damaging and harms disabled people, who are continually made to feel that they are just not trying hard enough to cure themselves. That we must not WANT to get better, instead of teaching disabled people how to live in the bodies they have and not be ashamed of that. The greatest benefit to quality of life comes from knowing that your disabilities are a part of what makes you who you are as a person, and that you deserve respect, dignity, ACCOMMODATIONS, and to be seen no matter what state you live in. Start by providing allyship and accommodation. This is a stigmatizing toy..Version: 4.12

BE CAREFUL with “30 day money back guarantee”I tried this app out because they boast a 30 day money back guarantee. With no free trial and no option to pay monthly (you HAVE to pay for a whole year up front), the money back guarantee is the only way to try out the app to see if it will work for you. However the “guarantee” is set up in a shady way to prevent you from getting a refund!! All advertising around the “30 day guarantee” says you have to use the app continuously for more than 2 weeks to be eligible to get your money back… but when it’s time to request your money back, Apple’s policies are that you can only get a refund if you’ve been using an app LESS than 2 weeks! So then you’re stuck having paid for a full year for an app you can’t get a refund for, despite still being in the “30 day money back guarantee” period. Super shady and deceptive advertising, which Curable justifies by having fine print about on their website (which contradicts all the fine print on their emails and when you’re signing up to pay). Be careful - you’re trying it and don’t like it, request a refund from Apple before you hit 14 days!.Version: 4.13

Will trigger trauma! Don’t use without a therapistDO NOT attempt to try this app without the support of a therapist. This app needs a major trigger warning. I was appreciating the pain education and then went to try a meditation and writing exercise and was taken by surprise that both activities were prompting me to think about/write about adverse childhood events. There were no warnings beforehand. It caused me to have a major panic attack. I have a heart condition as well as ME/CFS and it’s dangerous for me to get emotionally triggered like that without having time to prepare. This app is dangerous!!!!!.Version: 4.10.1

Preys on the desperateThe app forces you to jump in and pay for a full year after a very brief trial of explaining the current ‘science of pain’. Very expensive and really doesn’t offer anything that can’t be found elsewhere for free/much cheaper. £50 gets you some mindfulness and self-help audio tracks that aren’t gonna be useful for most people - it’s effectively just a placebo. There’s also extra courses and groups that cost a small FORTUNE. The fact that a year-long membership doesn’t offer any kind of group access at a lower level is just strange. It’s not a cheap investment if you don’t actually get any benefits from it. If they felt like it was going to actually help most people, they’d opt for a monthly subscription so you can try before fully committing - instead taking a full year, knowing that most won’t use it and wanting to cash in before they wise up. Really unhappy with the service and would’ve refunded if I could..Version: 4.13

The meditation guide need to be replacedThe app is great, the material is great, but the mediation guide frustrates me a bit. Actually a lot. The pace by which the guide speak is just so off, and the pauses are so random, often in the middle of the phrase like: "Imagine you are [very long pause] surrounded by [very long pause] a field of [another annoying pause] energy" seriously? just say the sentence and then pause all you want..Version: 4.12

Not for everyoneI am a doctor (training to specialise in pain medicine) in addition to suffer from pretty severe chronic pain. I have read a lot of research about the benefits of programmes like Curable, so thought it was worth a try. I persevered for over a month, but didn’t get any benefit whatsoever. I also found a lot of the content patronising, and at times felt I was essentially being told it was all in my head. This app does not differentiate between ‘neuroplastic pain’ (pain cause by an overly sensitive nervous system) and other types of pain (eg nociceptive pain due to arthritis). If you don’t have neuroplastic pain (I have chronic nociceptive pain due to congenital hip dysplasia) this app just isn’t very helpful. This is fine, but it would be good to know this going on so I didn’t waste time and money. I also really bristled at the ‘scan findings don’t mean anything’ lecture - comes across as completely invalidating I’m afraid, even though I understand it is meant to be reassuring. In summary - lots of good reviews suggest it works well for neuroplastic pain, but needs to be clear in advertising that this is the type of pain it is for. Otherwise people like me end up feeling both insulted and scammed..Version: 4.13

Useless if you have an actual identifiable physical disorderI have hEDS. It's genetic. I was quite literally born like this. My pain did not develop after an injury because my brain "learned" a certain pain. It did not develop from trauma or stress - in fact it isn't even made any WORSE by stress. As a person I have a strong internal locus of control, none of the "at risk" personality traits, and do not do any of the "pain carastrophising". So according to this app I.. shouldn't be in pain then? That's nice. I'll get right on doing that. Unfortunately, I cannot "positive think" my way out of having overly-loose ligaments any more than I can "positive think" my way out of having green eyes. Neuropathic pain is absolutely real, but not all chronic pain is neuropathic as this app would have you believe. What are you going to tell me to do if, just as a person, none of your "risk factors" or "negative thinky no-nos" even apply to start with? There are no recovery stories from people with thing like EDS or arthritis or degenerative disorders so I assume... nothing? But I'm not paying £50 to find out..Version: 4.12

Don’t drink the cool aid !What a rip off , don’t drink the cool aid !.Version: 4.12

Cannot use all the optionsCannot understand why the app is not allowing you to choose more than one option in a given topic??.Version: 4.13

Not as advertised (for me personally)I turned to Curable desperate. While I appreciated the meditations and options I didn’t find the app very user friendly and haven’t noted benefits from it...yet, despite using it for a few months. I hope they make some user modifications so that people like me can have an improved user experience. Eliminating pain would be great too but I would happy with a more user friendly approach to know what’s next, what the correct rhythm is etc I’m going to keep trying with it a little more and see if that makes a difference..Version: 4.12

Buyer bewareDidn’t work for me. I cancelled the subscription in app and was still charged. I’ve contacted them three times to get the charges refunded and they send an email saying someone will get back to me but no one ever does. Shameful.Version: 4.12

Tried to cancel but it wouldn’t let meDon’t get this app. It will not let you quit the app and it will keep charging to your credit card. it gave me instructions on how to quit the app and it is impossible to quit. They just keep charging me every year and will not quit my subscription to this app. this is a scam I am furious.I would give it zero stars if I could stealing money from people Who you claim to be helping is horrendous..Version: 4.13

Money GrabberBeware...you will not receive any form of notification when your annual subscription is coming up for renewal. Frankly, I gave up on this app less than six months in but did not remember I had signed up for a subscription. That’s on me. However, any app worth engaging with will provide notification of pending renewal and give the opportunity to cancel the subscription before the next payment is processed. This was a huge Fail on Curable’s part..Version: 4.10.1

I Don’t Like Deceptive AdvertisingFirst let me say I have been very interested in trying out this app. I downloaded it about two months ago but I haven’t had a chance to thoroughly check it out. I have my therapist checking into this application to see if it would be beneficial for me and I was looking forward to hearing her thoughts on the subject. However yesterday I received an email stating that the app had a 60% off deal for Black Friday. Upon looking into that deal I realized that the price of the application was increased by 100% to then give a 60% discount off of the price which in fact is very, very deceptiveFor people who could use this app and don’t make enough money for what used to be a $60 a year subscription and now is 399 a month or $40 a year which by the way is not a 60% discount. I can’t even describe how disappointed I am right now….Version: 4.12

Good info, flawed delivery.I asked for a refund because I found the voice irritating. With respect to the person.. I guess it’s a voice actor who has been directed to speak that way? If you don’t like this personality it will be hard to progress. I found the tone came across as a fake ‘relaxing’ tone. The chat bot also is frustrating.. you can’t give any real feedback about the exercises. The panic busters was good, especially accessing a meditation by someone who spoke normally. I read the education pieces instead of listening. Good information. Overall the information is good, but delivery is disappointing. It’s helped a lot of people though, so that’s great. However if you are like me and found it not so helpful, please don’t feel alone like I did. You will find other ways to heal ♥️🙏.Version: 4.13

Hidden PRICESecond email from Curable app’s developer was to inform me that I was being offered a 30% discount on the price of the Curable app. It was available from App Store for free, with no indication of a payment being required to use the app! I suffer from chronic pain and would be more than happy to pay for an app which offers me relief. I did not find that to be true from this app before being informed that I needed to pay before continuing..Version: 4.1

Bad company, keeps charging me after cancellation, doesn’t respond to emailsI tried the app cause the idea was interesting, but didn’t find it useful. I cancelled my subscription but keep being billed, and when I logged back on today I noticed my subscription was now active again. DO NOT give this company your credit card information..Version: 4.12

Misleading, and potential scam.Although I appreciate the concept of this app, unfortunately they have somehow skirted the label of “includes in app purchases”. However, you HAVE to subscribe to curable if you plan to use it as the app description intends. Although it would be fine if there was a price upfront for the app or explaining the more about the subscription component, or even had the proper labeling in the App Store, that would be different. But instead they are lying. Now I got an email that said “50% off, save $60”. No clue if that’s a month, for the whole year? The entire thing Is extremely misleading, and comes across as a major red flag for scamming. That is not a small amount of money to pay for a subscription, and people deserve to know that upfront. It also makes me question the validity and integrity of the educational information included. You also can’t see exactly what you are purchasing, there is no free trial. So it’s not like other apps which cost subscription where you can access the features for a limited time to get a feel if it’s right. This again, comes across as a scam. I definitely understand people need to get paid, and there is nothing wrong with charging for your services. But just be upfront and honest? People would likely buy/subscribe your product if you did that. I likely would have. Don’t manipulate your potential customers, especially those who are so desperate for help. TLDR; This DOES have in app purchases despite the apps description in the store, I the form of subscription to use. Now you can make an educated guess to see if it’s right for you, and worth it..Version: 4.1

RubbishSorry but it literally does nothing to help. I’ve done a few exercises and studied it quite a bit and it was the worst investment ever. It failed to help when I was in pain and offered zero real tools other than mindfulness (which you can learn for a lot cheaper on the calm app). An utter waste of money and time. It’s a pity there are no refunds. Shame on you for charging such a premium price to those in pain and not offering anything with substance that actually helps. DO NOT BUY. I repeat, do not buy. Learn mindfulness and that’s pretty much all you’ve got other than positive thinking and pain pills..Version: 4.12

THIS IS A SCAM!!!Seriously! This is a scam! They offer very little that can not be found with a bit of research (legitimately). They are essentially curating free information and podcasts into one place and charging $20/mo for user access. Further more, it has been impossible to cancel the subscription and the organization does no respond to emails about these concerns. Every month they bill me $20 for a service I find entirely useless and there is no way of me stopping those payments. DO NOT USE THIS APP! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF AND THERE’S NO WAY TO CANCEL THE MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION FEE!!!.Version: 4.1

No option to decline providing email addressI didn’t get past the first bit because I didn’t want to share my email address and there is no option to decline..Version: 4.1

Useful but not the "end all, be all" for pain treatmentI have severe chronic pelvic pain with rather unknown origin. It preoccupies me daily and controls many aspects of my life. I can't wear clothes. I found Curable and spent many hours in it, and to be honest, some days it provided some temporary relief which I'm grateful for, but it falls a bit short of being a full, comprehensive treatment plan. Obviously, it goes without saying that Cuts or isn't intended to replace specialists or medical care, but when it comes to chronic pain treatment plans, most of what's offered or provided by specialists is very similar to Curable. I think Curable has potential to radically help some pain patients that are experiencing lesser symptoms, and I hope that going forward the technology and understanding will evolve to the point that services such as Curable are fundamental to helping pain patients. It's worth trying if you have little options (there are very few options for us in pain). So trying anything and everything is typically all we can do. If anyone cares to read this message and you are experiencing pain, I send you my sincerest sympathies and wish you all the best and a fast recovery. Keep your head up and believe in yourself that you will get better. It's always possible. We may face more hardships in life than most folks but that doesn't meant we are any less or less valuable as human beings. We are just as capable, just allow yourself to love again and see the beautiful parts of life. Don't give up..Version: 4.12

Do not get this appComplete misrepresentation of pricing. $12 less 50% $6 year suddenly changed to hundreds of dollars after entering a credit card. What a scam!.Version: 4.13

You can’t access anything on the app or even see what it’s about unless you pay first. No thanks. Was recommended to me by someone so I’m disappointed there is no free trial or even preview of the features..Version: 4.1

Shallow use of tech, cashing in on pain patientsTech people buddying up with medico so they can cash in on people in pain is how you’d describe this. I have always hoped the medical community were working on cures but when it’s easier to team up with the make a ‘quick buck at the expense of real human’ tech sector we see the true colours. When it’s not over prescribing pain medication to harm people it’s taking their cash in partnership with tech. I give up. Save your money..Version: 4.13

App won’t activate - a huge time wasterAfter updating payment info, even thought I have 6 weeks for free this app will not activate. My doctor asked me to use this to calm my nervous system yet all it’s doing is driving my blood pressure up! 🤨 How good can they app be if you follow all of the instructions and t won’t activate? Useless..Version: 4.13

DisappointedFor an app designed to assist with chronic pain, an issue that mainly affects women, especially black and brown women, I was astonished that only 5 out of the 18 people on the leadership team are women (and they’re white). I’m skeptical as to how much of this app is actually based in science as the podcast frequently brings up topics such as “left brain right brain” which are not scientifically sound. The mentality of the facebook members group is very intense and cult like and honestly pretty off putting. There doesn’t seem to be any room for lived experience input..Version: 4.13

Unable to search for exercisesI love the app but get so frustrated when I see exercises mentioned on Instagram or Facebook and am unable to find the exercise. I’ve asked for help and am not receiving any. This is important to me. Also it would be nice if past exercises were organized into their own section rather than having to scroll through the roadmap..Version: 4.13

MeditationIt would appear these are limited and once you’ve done so many you are urged to go back and do the same ones again and again on the pretence that this is helpful - it isn’t it’s boring! Please put some new ones up.Version: 4.12

I wanted to love this app, but…The content seemed ok, some useful and some already quite familiar to those with chronic pain. But the app wouldn’t play the remaining intro audios after the first few. Per the app tech help, I deleted and reinstalled the app, same problem again. Only the first few audios played. It kept inviting me to subscribe to the pay version but wouldn’t play the full intro. I had been hopeful but got annoyed after several tries…kind of the last thing I needed. Also, there were only two options in the setup questions regarding structural tissue damage: asking if our cause of pain is visible on MRI or not (therefore actual “physical” cause or not). MRI is not able to see many kinds of tissue damage from surgeries, adhesions and many nerve impingement issues. That question should be removed from the initial setup questions. It’s irrelevant anyway, if what the speaker is saying later on is true..Version: 4.12
