OnSong 2023 for Negative User Reviews

Way too expensiveSorry .. but you’re not worth £40+ a year..Version: 2023.4

It’s been great until 2023 versionThe Multitracks feature appears to have destroyed backing track playback. Sometime, there is no playback, sometimes the previous song’s backing track plays when a new song is loaded, and sometimes a completely different track plays. When I go to add a backing track, and select an existing MP3 in my Audio Library, OnSong also creates a so-called Multitrack version in the playback window. That file is not playable. And as stated above, sometimes the loaded MP3 does not play either, even though it can be played from the Files app. Multitrack seems like a feature that should at least have an on/off switch, as I do not see most people using it. I have many recordings in Cubase 12, but I generally re-use audio stems in different parts of the song. The Multitrack feature seems like an alpha version to me..Version: 2023.2

Negative does not work 😡Paid for upgrade … no options work. Does not find a single song.Version: 2022.3

Those screenshots above literally have more functionality than this appI understand it’s a demo but wow some product manager has gone crazy with his definition of “everything you press show the nag screen”. The best bit ? You can’t even upgrade via the nag.Version: 2020.7.11

Keeps deleting everything, useless appI have lost all my sets and songs to many times to ever trust this app again And it just added 1700 single letter songs.Version: 2023.9

Hate the new versionUgh… what the heck have they done with this. I can’t begin to express how much I dislike the new upgrade. Nothing works right anymore. Trying to find a new app to use OR keep using the older versions..Version: 2022.4

FrustratedI loved this app at first! It did everything I needed and was easy to understand. since the new changes I can’t even create a set! aRRRGH!!!!! And to think I am paying premium! Help me fix it! Also, your user manual is not anyway like what is showing on my screen, so please don’t refer me it..Version: 2023.1

Avoid!!I have been using this version for a while but now when I open the app it asks me to create an account. When I do I get in an infinite loop of asking for an email, name, create a password and then back to email again. It is impossible to access the app so essentially I have lost EVERYTHING. Utterly useless and in fact dangerous if - like me - you need access to the material in the app. AVOID!!.Version: 2020.7.11

Don’t Trust the Good ReviewsOnSong pays for good reviews. Don’t trust the positive reviews seen here. They have been paid for. This is an incredibly dishonest way to do business. I really thought better of this company. Instead of bribing people for good reviews you should HIRE additional help and fix the multitude of issues present in your app. I was insulted by your email and will take no part in lying to people. This is in no way a 5 star app. I bet most 5 star reviews came around the time the email was sent. (Late June / Early July 2023). These can’t be trusted as they have been paid for. They sent out an email where the subject says “Rate Us 5 Stars, Get $5!” This is just a dishonest way to do business. OnSong isn’t just a bad app with poor customer service, it is a company run by bad people. I originally left this review OnSong denied their shady practice of paying for 5 star reviews. As if, I was the one being dishonest. Well now, warning people to stay far away from this app in review sites and social media is my new favorite hobby..Version: 2023.1

Glitchy & crashesYes, very helpful product. Been a user for over 10 years now. However, the re-release of this app to OnSong 2022 and 2023 was very frustrating! I purchased it at full price long ago, why shouldn't that have been enough? Why not just update the OnSong app so we could continue to use it? Why does it now require a subscription? I've lost my library several times. Once in the transition to the new app, and several times since, because the app has been so glitchy or doesn't open at all, and I've needed re-download it. Yes, I back up my library, but the songs don't load in as the OnSong, editable version, so any work that I had put in to convert songs to the OnSong version has been lost. Also, why is it so difficult to synch between my devices? I've never had success with that. Bad experiences especially lately, and I can't possibly recommend it to someone at this time..Version: 2023.1

Doesn’t WorkThis does not work, I signed up for an essential package subscription and it wouldn’t even let me add one song. I completely rebooted my iPad. I reinstalled the app twice, I did everything possible and I still could not even add one song. So good luck with that. You need to fix this up before I buy it again..Version: 2022.2

Ruined a great appI’ve used OnSong for donkeys years - and continue to use the old version. Decided to try this one too, to see what had been improved. Answer is, it doesn’t work. Sticky notes disappear as you swipe between songs - which is hopeless when it’s reminding you of something during a set - you don’t know you’ve missed it. Then trying to change the key of a song - it changes on the editor page, but when you go back to the display page, it’s still in the original key. Really basic things don’t work, and so the whole app is too unreliable to use. I’ll be cancelling the subscription to this one, and deleting. Maybe SongbookPro is the answer…..Version: 2022.2

Plays the wrong tracksWhen my band plays live, we use drum tracks and click tracks to support the band. Recently Onsong has been playing the wrong track when I push play, completely embarrassing us in front of our audience. The technical support I have gotten on this so far has not been good. I get one email a day with a question from tech-support, then I answer it and have to wait another day before they come back with another question, all the while our next gig is looming, and we have no idea what Onsong is going to do at the gig. Scared.Version: 2023.2

Don't download, run awayYou don't know what they will do with there licensing from one minute to the next. 1 minute you buy the app, then they remove it from sale and release a subscription only model. Really unprofessional and non customer focussed company..Version: 2023.0

ComplicatedHave premium 2022 version valid till November 23 Version 2023 is out with no visible update link. Conflict with others in my group. There are other issues also but this seems to be a major block..Version: 2023.2

What has happened!I’ve used Onsong for 5 years and paid for the app but since this update to Onsong2020 I’ve had a nightmare with transposing songs. I’ve tried deleting the app and reinstalling it but now it won’t upload my library of 400+ without paying for the app again. Why can’t I have my app back?.Version: 2022.6

Crash crashOnsong 2020 is awesome but not 2022. As a premium member I got the 2022 app and it is continuously crashing. Some songs will just freeze the app. And it is the sane database which works on 2020?? Very sad, it should not have been released before fixing those continuous crashes..Version: 2022.0

Seriously have some issuesNot only have they never fixed some features in the program like backup and sync, but now they are emailing their customer base offering a $5 reward for a five star review. They are a Christian led company with a worship music background, and they are resorting to bribery. Bad form, they need to look at their own morality. Make a good product, put the effort and cash into that, five star reviews will follow. Don’t mislead people by buying fake reviews..Version: 2023.1

Too buggy and inconsistentAs a musician I need a reliable product. This is too buggy to be dependable. Paid for a yearly subscription and cannot rely on this product. Feature set is fantastic and needed to use it, not reliable. Text block additions..freeze and cannot edit. A very important feature when have to take quick notes on a song. Disappointed. Liked the older versions better..Version: 2023.6

Was ok till it wasn’t.It’s great if you just load the song charts and that’s it. I have added multiple notes and tabs on to songs and then moments later it disappears or is over sized or on a completely different song. I’ve reached out to their support and still have the issue. I’m working on a set for this weekend and it just erased all the notes. Three hours of figuring songs out and making notes down the drain. It’s happened before but this is the last draw. Find another app..Version: 2023.5

Not EasyIt’s a dogs dinner of an app, difficult to navigate, doesn’t look worth a subscription.Version: 2023.4

It’s getting worse crashingI had purchased this app, since 2017, now they changed their policy, and want more money. The old app had many bugs, and this new app, you can’t do it anything if you don’t subscribe to any of their plans… I can’t use my ccli account anymore through this app, because it’s crashed all the time, definitely is getting worse. They should return all our money, now my 2020 version it doesn’t work at all. Shame on this company..Version: 2023.5

Very buggyI have been a long term user of Onsong. Many new features show promise and I have joined the beta testing team as suggested by the support team because they were unable to replicate the problem from the brief explanation I submitted via the support window. For now, it is not worth the upgrade until these bugs are fixed. When beaming songs between Onsong 2022 and Onsong 2020, if the file has a clip, it will crash the Onsong 2020 ipad. Also, my mp3 media library seems to randomly select files and removed them from the ipad. Support says it is most likely music from a paid service, however, I don’t have any paid services and I own alll of my mp3’s. Response to Developers Response: I’ve been reporting issues for months and months. I have reported issues through Beta site Testflight app and through software. I am beta testing on my ipad pro and running regular 2023 on another ipad and MacBook Pro. Same issues with crashes and mp3’s not playing or going missing on BOTH versions of the software. Very frustrating to not get any feedback via the Beta testing submissions of problems..Version: 2023.1

FrustrationCan’t import songs. Useless app.Version: 2022.9

Pathetic supportHeaven help you if you need support. I pay a _premium_ subscription. Put in a support request for an obvious bug on June 28. No response. I send a reminder after several days of nothing. Nothing, for days. Finally, two weeks further on, I get a response telling me to update to the latest version and submit a new support ticket if the bug still exists. I am on the latest version. Remind me again why I pay serious dollars every year for this?.Version: 2022.4

So upsetI purchased OnSong Pro years ago and it has worked wonderfully. Now I’ve upgraded my iPad and cannot access any of the features I‘ve paid for. OnSong “pro” doesn’t even seem to exist anymore. Developers: Please bring back the product I paid you for - I absolutely WILL NOT be subscribing to OnSong 22 when I can’t trust you..Version: 2022.4

Buying 5-star reviews now?I used OnSong 2020 for about a year and gladly paid the $5 monthly subscription. Then they “downgraded” the app to the 2022 version and completely ruined it. They continually responded to negative reviewers that you could still download the 2020 version. But that only worked if you purchased the onetime version, not loyal customers who downloaded the free version, then paid the monthly subscription. The 2022 version stayed completely unreliable for six months before I finally gave up on it in favor of a better, completely reliable app. Today I received an email from them offering $5.00 via PayPal for a 5-star review on the AppStore to the first 500 people that send them a screenshot of their review. Buying 5-star reviews now?? SHAME!!! I wouldn’t use their app now if they paid ME every month to do so!.Version: 2023.1

Retrieve songsMy iPad updated and so my OnSong updated itself. I have a backup of my songs, but sadly I’m unable to access them unless I pay for a service I do not want. I would like to retrieve the songs that I have authored. Please at least let me have my own songs back. Feeling let down by the new update. I’ve so enjoyed your app - but sadly won’t be using it moving forward. I’ve contacted your support team but I’ve clearly gotten automatic responses that do not even make sense if anyone would have actually read my question. Sincerely, Sad and let down songwriter..Version: 2020.7.2

Take it DownThis app does not work. Take it down until it’s ready. Have some respect for your customers. You guys can do better..Version: 2022.2

Amazing to AbysmalI used Onsong for years for worship and even had it talking to/synced with ableton and prime to play backing tracks. I also had it syncing lyrics to everything. All worked great. Then more and more bugs appeared which caused things to crash. So i stopped using onsong for controlling backing tracks. Then eventually it just became slow and buggy and now the developers want a subscription. Poor..Version: 2022.5

Subscription model - stay far away!As a customer who originally paid a fair price for the product (hint: it wasn’t 99 cents), I was very disappointed to see the app move to a subscription model. It is pure hubris to pretend that this app should be a subscription product and I hope the market punishes it appropriately..Version: 2022.4

Lost My Entire LibrarySadly, after little more than 1 year with OnSong 2020, I have lost my entire library due to an automatic IOS update that corrupted my OnSong file. Every attempt to retrieve it was unsuccessful, and even when I tried to upload new songs, it would no longer work. I used the on-line support email, but to no avail. Considering the amount of time and money put into this app, I warn everyone to not get it. Very disappointed, and it’s put a real strain on my performances..Version: 2023.2

No idea what this doesI wanted to try this app out before I decided whether to buy it. After opening it I couldn’t figure out how to do absolutely anything except looking at the fake “song” that comes included, which says to click on Songs to get started. You can’t do anything in the Songs menu. Every single button I clicked on told me I needed to pay for that feature. There is simply no point in offering a free trial when you can’t do anything with it. It makes your app look crippled and useless. It baffles me how developers think releasing a featureless trial will leave a good impression. Two stars instead of one because at least I only wasted two or three minutes of my time before deleting it. After reading the developer’s response, I have changed my mind. This is even worse than I imagined. They might have well just said “sorry sucker, if you want even a single feature you gotta pay for it - HAHAHA!” This is a terrible piece of software. NO ONE SHOULD FALL FOR THIS BAIT AND SWITCH! It’s crap. Don’t give them a penny..Version: 2023.4

Bug Ridden and UnreliableSubscribed or free this version seems designed to make you switch to another Song Management app. Adding by creating a new song causes the app to quit. Does not work properly with Console Mode as it fails to refresh the content online and appears to duplicate songs in a set list. On selecting a song in console the lyrics and chords from others kept coming up under the selected title! Transferring data from the previous version to this is just too clunky. Avoid until many user reviews say they fixed it. Really Zero Stars..Version: 2022.2

BUGS BUGS BUGS !I have very happily used OnSong for 5+ years , the switch to Onsong 2022 is proving problematic . Key basic features are not working as expected and sometime not at all. There seems to be a significant failure in testing. I for one will not be changing until the app is stable. Dont mind paying for a good app but 2022 should be avoided at this time..Version: 2022.4

No featuresI have had OnSong for about 10 years. It has upgraded to OnSong 2022. Now I can’t access any features including support.Version: 2022.6

Wow. What happened to this app.I used to use this instead of song books and had owned the app. I mostly used it for quick song lookups in my own created chord charts. This is way too pricey when for a few seconds longer I can just use a file viewer to open all of my music..Version: 2022.6

Not a 5 star ratingI’ve used OnSong for years. However, after having an iPad retire, I had to get the OnSong 2022 version (voiding my past purchase of the original OnSong, I want to say $20) I have to assume they do not honour previous purchases as they do not have the option to restore purchases. Why does this software need a subscription? I would have to assume it’s a focus-shift of appealing to higher paying -organization based clients such as churches and schools teachers. While I can understand it from a business perspective, it’s disappointing for the individual, as this is NOT worth the amount you pay per year. There are much more affordable solutions out there. Sure, I’m upset that they do not honour previous purchases, but I’m super confused on how the App Store managed to take the one 5 star vote out of the many negative reviews and claim as such. Maybe it will be updated in the future..Version: 2022.4

Don’t…The old version was magic. This version is extortion, and when you pay the ransom it does not perform at all like the original. A great app, ruined by greed and hubris. I feel like I have had my pocket picked..Version: 2022.6

Turn back the calendar"We're continuing to make Onsong better with bug fixes and new fetures" I disagree. OnSong was better three years ago that it is now. Every update makes it worse..Version: 2023.8

UselessWasn’t expecting much for free but totally useless. Zero functionality or ability to try it at all, every button pressed results in the same message, upgrade to pro. You literally can’t do anything, this review has more functionality than the app. Would have considered paying for the pro version but wanted to test first to see if it was something useful to me. Hope you change this, or just delete the app from the store..Version: 2020.7.11

Great features, one missing...I love the ease of this app, and find it so good to use along with my pedal page turner via bluetooth. The only thing I think is missing or perhaps I haven't worked out how to do it, but the library and sets do not sync across my devices. Laptop/ipad & iphone. This means that I cannot use two of them at the same time knowing that any changes I make will be applied to any device. Any help with this would be appreciated!.Version: 2023.9

Frustrated with the subscription systemI’ve been using this app for probably 6 years or so. It’s hard watching someone create the perfect app and then seeing it crumble. Even when I started the app was impossibly more than I would ever need. I really wish I could just pay $5 and get the 2018 version instead of having a subscription model being updated with things I don’t need. I’d love to see a lite version that just has chord carts, import options, and backing tracks. Paying a subscription when that’s all I need is frustrating..Version: 2023.6

Not happy AppJumping from 2020app to 2023 app seems just a money grabbing exercise and there are other issues on going.Version: 2023.6

App repeatedly asks to Upgrade when the subscription is purchasedSo premium features remain locked..Version: 2023.7

SadI really wanted to love this but I couldn’t even sign in and get past a login. Sayonara..Version: 2020.8.3

Features you say are free to try aren’tI was a little leery of trying this app because of its current bad reviews but I have had OnSong on a much older device for several years and was happy with it. I am trying to beam some songs from my old device to this one but it apparently isn’t allowed. There is a button offering to try for free but that doesn’t do anything. I’m not going to pay for a poorly reviewed app without trying it properly first. Do better..Version: 2022.2

Features are good… when the app doesn’t breakApp is useful for me for worship service, but when IT WORKS. As of last update or two it has been acting weird after 10-15 minutes of use showing the wrong songs sheets. Only way to fix it is to reboot the app in front of a live event or service. Yeah not kidding, what a mess. I updated the app, contacted support various times and their only solution was for me Install the Beta version… for a subscription that I’m paying for! That’s just not acceptable. Fix this already, it’s been like this for way too long..Version: 2023.4

I can’t believe this happened!!!I’ve used onsong for over 5 years now. There have always been bugs and glitches but I ignored them because I had a large library of songs that I didn’t want to lose. One day I tried opening the app and it would only showed a black screen. I closed windows, restarted my phone and tried just about everything. Couldn’t contact onsong for help because you have to do it through the app itself but I couldn’t even open the app!! I have an account linked so I figured I’d delete the app and log in like you do with other apps. All in hopes us getting the app to open. It worked I could finally open the app…Well unfortunately ALL of my 300+ songs were DELETED!!!!!! I have no way of restoring them!!! If someone can please help..Version: 2023.9

HARD PASSThis used to be an excellent app. Now it's not worth the cost of the bandwidth to download it. Way to go devs, you ruined what was arguably the best app of its kind. The incompetents who spearheaded the 2022 version should be cleaning toilets not selling software. Screw ups of this magnitude are why there needs to be 0 star option..Version: 2022.7

Finding the app complicatedIs there a search question etc ?.Version: 2022.9

Disappointing and expensiveI’ve been an onsong user and ambassador since the beginning, used to love this app. But it seems the company forgot what made onsong great in the first place and got greedy The new version is buggy and frankly has a lot of things that I don’t need, maybe if they just let the features you want as an add on just like the old app That way you don’t have to pay for extras you don’t want or need And they should get rid of the subscriptions I hope they would bring back the old app and go back to what made onsong great in the beginning.Version: 2022.6

OnSong 2022Nothing but problems since I up graded to 2022. This version has gone backwards Sets will not sort, beam songs show up blank and just not working like the old version..Version: 2022.1

Text bookThis app is a text book case of en$hitification. Avoid..Version: 2023.9

No respect for long term usersSeems previous purchases and continued use mean nothing to this bunch. Can’t move away from it now so no choice. Well done on alienating a client base. I used to recommend, but I won’t any more.Version: 2022.4

Don’t waste your moneyI subscribed for 5 months, what a waste of money. Never worked properly. I tried to sync with someone using the app at to share what we were playing together. Didn’t work..Version: 2022.6

Useless! This is the free version of OnSong. The feature set on this free version is so limited as to render it useless for either casual use as a song sheet app, or even to evaluate the full app (which is pretty expensive when you compare it to other similar apps). Every menu option simply brings up the option to upgrade to the full, paid for, version, making it impossible to assess whether you’d even want to upgrade! You can sign up for a free trial but I’ve had poor experiences cancelling these “free” trials in the past and so now avoid like the plague. In short, if you’re prepared to sign up for a subscription this may be worth looking at. I’m not and there are cheaper options out there so this one will be getting removed from my iPad I’m afraid..Version: 2020.7.11

BadFor 2 years great, then 2023 totally bad. Asked for help, not useful. Don’t buy this. Tom Asked for a nickname. Every one taken. So I can’t even give a review. Hate this..Version: 2023.7

Great program if you subscribe. This would get 5 stars if you didn’t have to subscribe and pay the Hillsong yearly tax. It’s not cross platform either. Search linkesoft, which solves this problem..Version: 2020.8.3

Formerly good app destroys themselves with greedThis app used to be amazing, but now I’m forced to pay a monthly subscription on a £50 app for a feature that used to be free. But even if I pay for that subscription, if I haven’t been online in a couple of days and try to use it without an internet connection, it’ll assume I haven’t paid and block me from using these vital features. Obviously, this is exactly what you need 5 minutes before an important gig. Honestly, you’ve lost any goodwill I had towards you by trying to wring every penny you can from me. I’m looking for an alternative now.Version: 2022.7

There goes the neighbourhoodThe old saying “don’t fix what ain’t broke” could’ve saved a whole lot of headache. Their decision to move to a subscription-based app has effectively rendered my songwriting tools obsolete. I am very deeply disappointed..Version: 2022.4

Absolute rip-offI had previously used OnSong and decided to the new 2022 edition looked pretty good. So I downloaded the app. Next I was asked to purchase a subscription, so I paid for OnSong Essentials. I was charged $37.43 annual fee upfront. I then went to load some songs and found that I would need to spend a substantial amount more for that feature (library management). This feature was advertised as part of the OnSong Essentials package I had paid for. I contacted OnSong to ask what the deal was. I have not had any response since. I’m now trying to stop the payment..Version: 2022.3

GREEDVery disappointed. So the app I paid for means nothing now. Trying to convince me to upgrade to get extra stuff. I don’t mind one time me payment but a monthly payment is wrong. I’ll keep what I have until you discontinue it. GREED has set in everyone.Version: 2022.0

Original standalone version used to be great….I purchased the standalone version of the app many years ago and liked it a lot (except for the misalignment of chords when importing Word docs of songs - sometimes it would have the alignment correct and sometimes not) I also purchased the desktop interface of the app to facilitate editing, etc. Unfortunately, they discontinued the desktop app so I lost that functionality. Also the App on my iPad started becoming more and more buggy (i.e. in some songs one line had the correct chords, while the next line would have transposed the chords to a different key and I could not get it to correct the errors despite trying a number of different things) Bottom line: I have purchased Songbook Pro which has all the functions I was using in OnSong, but it is a one-time purchase for $7.99 (Canadian) and it is stable so far, it is easier to edit chart layout and it will allow importing of my OnSong library Sorry OnSong….Version: 2023.4

Terrible AppYou know the saying, ‘if it ain’t broke, etc…..’ I am sure you can all finish the saying. Onsong clearly doesn’t. I have over 500 songs in my library which I have been using since 2016. When suddenly Onsong changed the ability to Transpose music unless I downloaded the 2022 version AND pay more money I reluctantly signed up. Now most songs still cannot be transposed using the 2022 version. Yes it gives more options to the user but you have to search for it. It is not as intuitive as 2020. Then there is the five messages I have sent requesting help from the ‘Support Team.’ I had one reply two weeks ago, but they falsely redirecting me to the song provider company as the cause of the problem. Truly this is a shocking app, poorly thought out for those who have used Onsong for years. A shoddy way to treat customers..Version: 2022.6

Sadly should have read the reviews. Is there a plan to fix the issues that a lot of people are mentioning? I can no longer beam and when it does connect the slave is blank. This was working so well before updating. I’ve been a long time supporter and fan. I’m hoping this is not the end of OnSong for me. It’s been a great tool so far..Version: 2022.2

Mediocre, but could be so much better.I downloaded OpenSong because other musicians in my wider church used it and I needed to work with them. It does the basics reasonably well, but doesn't support the latest versino of ChordPro which includes the use of supersript and subscript options in the chord names (an essential for people with visual processing issues), so some further customisation needed there. Downloading songs is a pain, because most often the formatting or ChordPro is either incorrect or just isn't there. The Console editor is helpful in this, but difficult to use as you can't see the text you have highlighted to edit (dark grey highlight on a black background - please guys, fix this). The worst part is not being able to share the database across my multiple devices, so it is impossible to keep my 4 licenced devices in sync. It appears the reason is that the program does not meet Apple's programming guidelines in relation to file locations, so the sync capabilty is blocked by the OS. Overall a potentially promising App, but so many things that should be much better. There are better Apps out there, but having invested so much time and effort in this one, for the time being at least I am stuck with it..Version: 2023.8

OnSong glitchy and unreliableI would not recommend this program. It is glitchy and unreliable. I’ve had problems with songs disappearing spontaneously off of my song lists and therefore my set lists. There’s no explanation why they disappear. This is a nightmare when you are in the middle of a practice or performance..Version: 2022.2

Too too much but good in there as wellI am a gigging musician, and use OnSong as a lyric/chart display. It replaces big 3-ring binders from years before, and I keep over 800 songs in there. The editing and display options are generally great, as is the ability to create setlists. The bad part is the overload. OnSong is designed for worship leaders and they threw in the kitchen sync: it can do MIDI, manage lighting changes, control a projector and much more. This is all to the detriment of the other functions, and makes the app clunky and unintuitive to use. It avoids iOS app conventions, making matters worse. I would love to see a version of OnSong with all church features removed - just well formatted lyrics and charts, thank you!.Version: 2023.8

£5 Bribe for 5* ReviewsYes OnSong are offering to pay users £5 if they provide a 4* or 5* Review. Until recently, OnSong had a review rating of just 1*, basically because it’s a lousy program. Surprise, Surprise it has suddenly jumped to 4*. It seems some people are easily bought. MY ORIGINAL REVIEW This App has a lousy rating which will put potential users and also existing users off. The recent 2023 upgrade was full of bugs and is very disappointing. OnSong is expensive for the limited amount of functions it provides. The annual subscription for the full package is almost £50 depending whether you pay monthly or annually. I have made numerous suggestions to the developers but sadly these have been ignored. UPDATE 23 JUNE 2023 OnSong has generally received lousy reviews which I suspect is damaging their sales. To combat this the OnSong Developers are now offering a £5 payment to OnSong Users who leave a 4* or 5* Review. Surely Apple will not allow this. This also means the 4* and 5* reviews cannot be trusted and should be regarded as suspicious. UPDATE 30 NOV 2023.Version: 2023.5

My paid version no longer works b/c of new update.I had a paid version and now with the annual subscription it no longer works. It also tries to update to new version and my iPad is version 12.5.5 and the new subscription is version 14. Imagine buying a Toyota or Honda and had it for 5 years and the next new model comes out in 2022 and your 2017 no longer works and it had been working perfectly...BAD MANAGEMENT. Not the way to do business.Version: 2022.4

Received an offer via email for subscription discount so thought I’d check it out again…Wow! What a disappointment. I saw that there was a new app, 2022 rather than my existing 2020, so I installed it. First shock- it didn’t import my 2020 data! But it DID import my 2020 account details and I was logged in. Why? Second shock- I cannot access even “settings” without some subscription. I can’t even import from my 2020 backup into 2022! There is literally no basic functionality to evaluate- they actually removed (paid-for) functionality from me between versions. No thank you, no thank you. Uninstalled..Version: 2022.4

A disasterous upgradeI can't seem to find a way to communicate with OnSong so I'll leave this message here. OnSong 2022 sounds great on paper. I would like a lot of what they've added if it actually worked, but a lot of it simply doesn't. OnSong is obviously a little app that grew over time. It's always been buggy, but I put up with it because it mostly worked and was very useful when it did. With this update the developers have apparently changed the data structure. That has had two major effects. The first is that performance has taken a major hit. Changing between songs can take a minute or more on an iPad. It used to be almost instantaneous and now it's pretty useless for performance. The other effect of the change is that they've removed the ability to sync between platforms. That is worrying given that the main justification given for the change is that one day the sync will actually work. In the past it was extremely buggy but I used it - now it doesn't exist at all. I was going to compile a list of bugs in the new version but found that the list was getting impossibly long. I may have to abandon OnSong if I can't get some sort of assurance that the bugs are going to get fixed, but I'm afraid that the developers may have entered a death spiral. I doubt they would have released this version with all its problems unless they felt they had no choice. No choice means that they needed the money to keep going. I can only hope that they money it generated (including from me) is enough to get the program fixed. If it isn't enough this may be the end of OnSong. That would be a shame. It's been a very good and very useful application. Now it's not. I hope that changes..Version: 2022.4

So many issues for 2023 versionI’m giving this app two stars today even tho we have used it successfully and gratefully for years! Now the backing track will either not play or only plays part of the song. Plays a different song other than the song you are on. Songs will change on their own to a different screen in the middle of the song. The metronome will not keep up with the chosen tempo some of the time. And it seems it’s degrading as time goes on which is very disconcerting as my band depends on this app to play at church. We may have to find alternatives. Please fix your bugs. Thank you.Version: 2023.4

Disgraceful!“Yes, you can keep Onsong 2020 with all its features” LIES! DECEITFUL and disgraceful. Had to remove the app because of a reset of my iPad. Went to reinstall Onsong 2020. NOT THERE only 2022 which is asking me for subscription. And the link to 2020 is faulty (on purpose, I suspect.) Not happy. I love Onsong but now looking for an alternative as I suggest everybody does..Version: 2022.6

Owners of this app are greedy for moneyWhen On Song first came out, it was a brilliant app which worked very well for churches. I belong to a small country church which has no music budget. I bought the app outright and encouraged members of my team to do the same. It wasn’t cheap but I was happy to pay because it was worth it. Then they introduced plans and that meant I lost some features unless I joined a plan. I wasn’t happy, since I had already paid for these features. Fortunately they offset this by making a free version, which was good for new team members who only needed to view songs, so I didn’t complain. Now OnSong 2020 no longer works properly (surprise surprise). So I either have to find a new app for our team or pay a subscription. I will definitely NOT pay for a subscription. This model is great for big rich churches - they have nothing better to do with their tithes and offerings than pay money hungry people who have basically stolen from people who paid for something they now don’t have. That money would be better spent on funding missionaries. OnSong creators are milking this for as much as they can get. I’m disgusted. There is no possible way small churches could even dream of funding monthly subscriptions for stuff like this. It is ridiculous how many of these monthly subscriptions companies think we can fund as individuals every month. Another reason I would not pay for a subscription is because you never know when they might suddenly increase the price again or remove a feature!.Version: 2022.3

Deeply DisappointingThe 2020 version was far superior. This ‘update’ is slow infested with bugs and it suggests that this wasn’t beta tested before release. Also frustrated at the expense of buying a subscription to access the tools I used before for free! This is an important and very useful tool at my church, but now we are actively pricing alternatives, especially as we come to the Christmas season with all the extra music and services. The most infuriating aspect is that my 2020 version is now infested with bugs from this new version. I don’t know if I’m entitled to a refund!.Version: 2022.6

Impossible to use without subscriptionI managed to import a song into OnSong 2022 from old iPad but now cannot access library as it comes up as premium subscription needed. So no lite version available at all. I don’t gig very often so it’s not worth it for me. I’ll just use old iPad. Thought I might be able to subscribe for a month and get it set up and then use my sets but it won’t work. See ya OnSong.Version: 2022.6

Waste of timeWanted to evaluate this against my existing app (SongHub) but nothing, and I mean nothing works!!!!!!!!! Every thing you try results in the upgrade to pro screen. How is any right minded musician going to determine if this can work for them. Think again..Version: 2022.2

Too expensiveIt’s a great program - and I used the original one for many years, but for people that just want the basic functionality, it is way too expensive. Sad because it’s otherwise pretty good..Version: 2022.6

On song 2023I am not a happy camper. You said I could get on song 2020 as long as I wanted to. I bought a new I pad just to use On Song 2020. Now it is not available to download. I do not like 2023. It has way to much junk on it that I will never use but yet I have to pay for it every month. Please make On Song 2020 available to download again. I hate to have to learn another different brand app..Version: 2023.0

I need helpI purchased On Song when I bought my IPad 2 many years ago. I’m trying to transfer my library. My old iPad doesn’t support the new apple transfer features. I can’t even email support without paying for it. Any suggestions for an old friend..Version: 2022.4

Annotation issuesOver the last year I have spent countless hours recovering from annotation issues, both in OnSong 2020 and 2023. I have used backups and followed Support directions. I have joined their beta team to help. I continue to have significant annotation issues. With the most recent issue (annotations suddenly appearing much larger in size and spacing, and thus skewed all over the page, occurring in all songs in the library), I have submitted 3 support requests, and have heard nothing back from them, not even an email letting me know they received the request. I have many songs and hundreds of annotations, and, in its present state, OnSong is completely unusable to me. Up until a year ago, I was a 5 star fan. This last year’s issues have left me shaken, in both the app and support (I have paid for the Premium level, and certainly have not received that level of support)..Version: 2023.2

Very complicated and disappointingBuyer beware. From most things I’ve read and viewed, this seems to be the go-to app for many. But from my experience, not so much. -FIRST be sure to thoroughly read every inch of their website and have a thorough understanding of ALL things known as “tech terms” and be sure you know exactly what features you will need. For example, I read NOWHERE that advised me to be sure to create the song library and edit it to include all the pertinent info, on the machine you intend to use as your gigging source. I imported 200 songs and edited them on my Mac as it’s much easier to work right? (Still Took a LONG time) only to find out I cannot simply share these with the actual device I will take with me to a gig. At the time of this writing I have found one way to move just ONE song at a time. So if you have hundreds of songs… -SECOND: although this app seems aimed at iPad/iPhone users, it does NOT support using iCloud. So this means that if you purchased and downloaded the app to your Mac, you cannot simply open your iPad/phone, login, and there is your library (which is what I was lead to believe) or go to an option that says, click here to import from iCloud. You must manually find “workarounds” to get this done. Which leads to my 3rd point. -THIRD you will need a thorough understanding of how to use your Mac and Apple software to be able to get the most of this app. This is definitely NOT for new Mac users or casual computer users. if you are older or just know the basics of using your Mac, this will be very difficult. You will need to know things like: how to share files, make and use PDF files, Zips and Network settings. it can be VERY complicated to use most of the features of this app -FOURTH you will need to purchase another app called Dropbox in order to be able to easily share files from one of your devices to another. There may be other ways but again you will need good skills to do them. This is NOT for the casual user. -FIFTH if you want to do anything other than have a list (library) of your songs available to you for gigs or whatever, you will need to purchase the “Premium” feature. Most of the options within the “essentials” level don’t work unless you pay more. For example, there is an option to import songs from the internet. You type in the search box a song name and …nothing happens. No explanation, nothing. Definitely feel I’ve been duped but it is what it is. I paid for a yr, about 30$, may or may not try to use it down the road. Definitely won’t be renewing. They make it sound so easy but then again, a chemical engineer can make fusing nuclear matter sound easy too… I’ll continue to search for a simpler alternative but this app gets a firm failure from me….Version: 2023.5

IdiotsSo I be been using on song for over 6 months..recently I tried moving my set lists to library..can t do it.. tonight all my set list are gone.. did you break into my I pad and STEAL them.. did you want to come into my house andSTEAL my other music on paper.. our team has talked about DROPPING on song…let’s see if you can return my set lists..you guys are creating a BAD reputation… your call.. let’s see you fix it.Version: 2023.9

Greed has overtaken youI purchased this app when it was first starting out online support was almost immediate since then they are now forcing you into a subscribed payment I think that is so wrong..Version: 2022.6

Lost saleWas going to buy the pro version after seeing someone use it. Tried the free version first. NOTHING works. And I do mean nothing. Going to look elsewhere, an absolute waste of space. If I could give 0 I would.Version: 2020.7.11

Another lost saleI downloaded the demo despite reading reviews saying the app was terrible! And discovered the reviews were valid - the app is terrible! It crashes, doesn’t delete files and update those deletes, it doesn’t always remember the tempos, the record events didn’t work! It shows the lines between pages as a flickering flashing thin white line which I found beyond annoying and visially off putting and all in all I found the app useless and had to delete it. I was very dissapointed as I really wanted it to work. I bough the Teleprompter app instead which worked flawlessly for my main task of scrolling lyrics professionally. On Song has potential without doubt, but the developers need to get the fundementals stable and working before worrying about adding anymore extra less important features..Version: 2022.3

Was not the best now worse $$$Extremely disappointed. Paid for an ok app. But now as others greed has set in and rendered all previous purchasers held for ransome! Beware..Version: 2020.8.4

Overpriced, clunkyFor the absurd amount they charge for premium subscription, this thing should write the charts for you and make you coffee when it’s done. Started off on the basic subscription (still quite pricey) as I don’t need to use many features, but for that you can’t even share charts between your devices or draw notes on charts. On the premium now and I’m still trying to work out how to share charts. The actual basic editing functionality is ok but pretty clunky and limited. I’d hate to be trying to use some of the advanced features. I got this because it’s the app ‘everyone’ uses. I’d recommend looking elsewhere..Version: 2022.4

GREEDY developersWhat about my app purchase of the original app ? Deceptive practice should not be rewarded. No more recommendations to friends…. No more money from me. New features ? Pfffft…. New billing’s technique..Version: 2022.3

Bug ridden, slow, bloatedI have been using this app for a number of years now. At the start it was useful and had great promise. Many new features were promised and discussed by the developers but never transpired. Instead we got more and more stuff that non-worship users just didn’t need. The developers need to be up-front about the fact that this app is squarely aimed at worship house users and any other type of user is a bonus to them. That’s fine, just be honest about it. Then they went subscription. I wasn’t happy but went along with it thinking it would finally be the time that the stuff we really did need would appear. Wrong. More rubbish we don’t need, a redesign of the UI which must have been done by a 5 year old, terrible. And then to finish me off, Version 2022! What a pile of c**p! Bug ridden and so so slow to do anything. And I have a top of the range iPad Pro. Not a slow iPad. So I am done. Subscription cancelled, new app found, goodbye OnSong..Version: 2022.3

Wow now this sucksI paid. Now don’t get to play Nothing on this version is working on BRAND new devices Used 2020 and all was well but now I’m cancelling Worst $$$$ spent so far this year.Version: 2022.7

Pages not turning iRig Blue Turn.Generally this app is very good for worship, praise music especially if you have many songs to play every Sunday. One of the features that doesn't seem to work is page turning using the iRig Blue Turn device, one of the most simple pedal page turners out there. I have tried every possible combination of settings. This is one feature of this app that I need to work..Version: 2023.9

Has bugsRequire frequent login at most inconvenient times even when using same device. Software sometimes hangs on iPad Air g5. Caused major during a gig If you write a negative review you can’t send it because all Nick names to use are taken..Version: 2023.2

So this is not a free update to 2022?I got an email stating that this was an update to 2022, and the way I read after going over it 3 or 4 times was that if you had a previous version, like my lifetime 2022 version (not subscription), then this is it’s update - no mention of extra cost. When I downloaded this, it only offered the subscription model, and said that if I wanted to stay with 2022, I could download that, although even that link didn’t seem to work. It seems to me that your fully paid 2022 version is stuck at that unless you want to become a new subscriber. Time to consider alternatives, or stay with a buggy 2022..Version: 2023.0

What did you do to this app???I’m a longtime user of OnSong and I loved performing with this app! Loved, until they changed whatever they changed and the app stopped working. I push play for a backing track and I have a 50% chance that the song being played is the song looking me in the face. How horrible is this for your audience? “sorry folks, I don’t know what song I’m going to sing and play” I can’t use this app as it works now, I look like an amateur. I’ve tried the updates like the people at OnSong say but still… what track is going to play? Can we forget all the videos, lights and smoke and make the music happen again? I will say that OnSong does respond quickly and try their best to help. The solution I ended up with was ditching the 2023 version, redownload the 2020 version and use that. Since then I’ve used the 2020 version for six hours without any problems. If you just want a good place to put your charts and music use the 2020 version..Version: 2023.4

Disappointing appVery disappointed in an ap that I paid £4.99 for-waste of money. Without paying an additional subscription it will only store max 30 songs and you cannot add notes to the music. ForScore is more expensive but so much better. Waste of £5..Version: 2022.7

False infoI loved this app so much and paid a good price for the 2020 version or non subscription based version but I can’t download that now. Your website says as of one month ago that you can download the old version if you paid for it but I can install it on my new phone. Glad I backed up all my text files. Guess I have to look for a new app since I can’t use what I paid for. Great app but not worth $5.99 a month to see lyrics on a phone or iPad since that’s the most I do with it..Version: 2022.5

OnSong 2022 - Very DisappointedWe have been using OnSong since very early in the App history, and love the App. In our travels, we recommend it to everyone with whom we work. I know most have started using it themselves. It is a wonderful tool. The new 2022 release with all the new features, particularly when adding Premium, may(?) be great … but who knows. We cannot do ANYTHING without at least buying into the Essentials subscription. Just about everything requires adding a subscription. I can’t even add the backup of my database to take it for a test spin. In truth, I am not interested in using any program requiring a subscription, paying every month or annual fee. I want a program that that I can buy once to use it going forward. If necessary I’ll buy an upgrade at a time of my choosing, when I feel it is warranted or I see enhancements that I want. So OnSong developers, very sorry to say, I am very disappointed and frustrated in the direction you are taking the app. The Essentials (which are mostly basic functions that we already bought) should be available without subscription. Perhaps, if this new release is truly a major advancement, you can charge a smaller upgrade fee. For the Premium features, (more, bigger, newer, better) charge a another fee or subscription if you must..Version: 2022.2

I’ve lost all my songs!!!I’ve been using this app for two years, never any issues. The last few weeks it’s been glitching out and not letting me upload files from google drive. I decided to back all my songs up (over 350), and redownload the app to see if that would fix it. Nope. It didn’t. And when trying to restore the backup, that doesn’t work either. I’ve now lost all my songs and have a 3 hour performance in an hour. Thanks OnSong, absolutely ridiculous. Still can’t even reupload songs from google drive as you aren’t bothering to fix this glitch that is also occurring on other devices, such a let down. Especially for the price of the damn thing..Version: 2023.7

Possible glitch? When I edit a song I’ve imported, simply to rename song, the chords all transpose down? Hasn’t happened until today..Version: 2023.4

Not greatAs all the other reviews say its soooo full of bugs - crashes all the time. last time it lost a days work for me. Also i cant see how it syncs across multiple devices. if i make a change on my ipad this doesnt show on my iphone etc etc. For the price its not good enough really..Version: 2022.5

SubscriptionWhy can't I just buy a product?.Version: 2022.0

Used to love it, now I don’tI don’t like writing bad reviews, but I can’t help it. I paid for the full version and used it for years. Loved it to pieces. Then things fell apart once it went to subscription model. Everything forces an upgrade. I can’t express my disappointment enough. What a sad turn..Version: 2022.5

Glitchy, paid subscription expect even greater functionality and it’s not thereUsing OnSong for years. Now paid and it’s glitchy. I have new iPad and all up to date. Setting metronome is a sliding feature with is glitchy. You want an exact tempo set and takes a long time to just slide right just over and under target until magically getting the number you want. They should allow you to type in exact tempo. Also changing features in a song causes app to refresh going to a start of set having to go back to song editing over and over. Thankfully on trial period will likely not renew. If you’re going to charge a fee for use it better be a fantastic product which it simply isn’t. I think it’s embarrassing to charge a fee for an app that is dysfunctional. Hopefully a competitor does better and likely switch..Version: 2022.5

New updateI’ve purchased OnSong quite a while ago and didn’t have to pay anymore....but apparently I got an update and now I can’t edit or do anything with my songs telling me I have to upgrade to pro and purchase it...very very disappointed and loved using this app...I tried contacting OnSong people and no response...I guess I will be changing to another app if there’s a one I can find and use...I had people ask me what app I was using but I will change their mind on buying OnSong.Version: 2020.7.8

The more I pay, the worse it gets! The latest version is really buggy. Even in the launch tutorial, where two guys were saying how wonderful it is, it went wrong. Did they not consider fixing the bug and re-recording the video?? It smacks of amateurism I’m afraid, and they’re now charging quite a lot of money for the annual subscription. Had I not paid for that, I would certainly not be still using it, and I will definitely not be renewing..Version: 2022.4

Disappointed by billing and locked out of featuresI really love using OnSong, however last week I received an email from OnSong advising me my subscription had run out and they were sorry to see me go. I checked my subscriptions in iTunes only to find I’d paid it automatically a day before. I went into the app and sure enough all the features are turned off and I can’t even log in again. So I had to seek a refund from iTunes. I attempted to contact OnSong via the help function in the app but am locked out of that also. Not sure what’s going on, but very disappointed. I would be happy to discuss if I could contact them..Version: 2022.2

Crashes all the timeI used to use this all the time. But was put off by the crashing. Came back to it this week, updated to the latest pro version and it still crashes all the time. It’s got to the point where it won’t open now. Not reliable enough for live performance..Version: 2022.0

AwfulAvoid this subscription version! It is utterly awful. Full of bugs. Crashing. Losing songs. Freezing. Complete waste of money. It feels like it is just a cash cow for the company and as if the developers have given up caring about the simplicity that made it so popular in the first place. They have bloated the subscription version with way too many things that swallow you devices RAM and make the app unreliable. It good if you rely on it for gigging like I do. I still have the one-time purchase I made 7 years ago. Works fine :).Version: 2023.1

Definitely avoidI paid for premium features, now asks for account which doesn’t work. Lost access to app at gig. This app is now a big fail..Version: 2020.8

Love OnSong 2020. OnSong 2023 is a dumpster fire.I’ve used OnSong 2020 for 3 years. It’s been flawless and extremely reliable & stable. OnSong 2023 has some new features that I really wanted so I decided to upgrade AND buy the Premium subscription. OnSong 2023 has given me nothing but problems. The app freezes, crashes, shows lyrics from one song in another, and has a lot of trouble connecting to my Google drive account to backup and access my text files. I have uninstalled it and went back to OnSong 2020, which for me, is a lot better version. I’m really disappointed and hope the developer can clean up the mess of OnSong 2023. I may even look at switching to another app for my chord chart needs..Version: 2023.9

Not for me and my iPad Pro 11This is the most unintuitive app I have ever tried to use. I have struggled with this thing for two weeks and I have finally thrown in the towel. The basic video makes it look so easy and for writing a song it is but trying to import lyrics from pages to the app is not. I won’t go into all the little quirks of this thing but it is not for me. I am using an iPad Pro 11 and that may be part of the problem but I am tired of trying to figure it out..Version: 2023.9

AVOID! Greedy greedy, Took features away after paying.Very silly of Onsong to have users pay for an earlier version at a full price hit - only to release a seperate version called ‚2022‘ and then take features away and hide them behind an ongoing paid subscription. That was always going to cause terrible feedback. I am so glad i backed all my music up in text files, otherwise I‘d be very upset. Moving to SongbookPro. So far so good. NEVER trusting the app develops again and will ensure I keep a backup of my music elsewhere in case this happens again across other platforms. 😡😡😡😡👎..Version: 2022.3

UnuseableSo sad, I have used OnSong for years. Now I’m looking for alternatives because this version is unusable..Version: 2022.6

Greedy and UnethicalI share the sentiment of many reviewers here. OnSong is a great app and I paid for the App as well as the in-app purchase in the 2020 version. Now they have taken it off the App Store all together so we cannot even install it and bring out the new version with the subscription model which they are hoping to force all of us to pay yearly for it. I am all for good developers to get remunerated, but they do have to look after their supporters who for years have helped the app to get to where it is today. They should let the early supporters to use the new version for free as was in the original agreement, or at least allow us to download and continue to use the old version. We would be happy to pay for any new features with IAP, but this just make us feel ripped off. From free to paid to forced subscription. This kind of practise seems to be getting more and more prevalent in the App Store ecosystem and users have to take action to protect themselves. I have been taking care of using only apps that allow one to backup/export data in a non-proprietorial format. This has saved me and my hard work countless times..Version: 2022.4

Looked so promising but…..App fell at the first hurdle as I tested the lyric projection on a song from an iPad Air 2 before a service - swiped to the next song, and as I went down the sections of that song, the lyric projection was scrolling through the previous song instead! That’s a serious problem and one that made me lost my confidence immediately in this app..Version: 2023.4

Can’t access my OnSong2020 featuresHello, so I’ve been using OnSong for over 10years. It’s worked for me just fine until this morning on my way to church I reviewed the songs I was going to do only to get to church and each time I load the app, it just crashes and nothing happens. When I downloaded OnSong 2022, I see that I have to subscribe to get features for backing up my archived library. I’m therefore left in a situations that I’m not being able to use the app, and I’ve also come to find out I can’t even download OnSong 2020 anymore. So my question is, what happens to the app and services that I paid for, all the features that I’ve paid for in the past what happens to them and can you refund me if you’re not able to restore what I was using before? I’m super disappointed at the fact that I’m no longer able to use the app as I was using before, please let me know what the way forward is, can you restore my services into OnSong 2022 or I’m I now expected to pay for all the services I was using before again?.Version: 2022.5

Confusing and no supportInstructions are terrible and no support. I paid for this app, was totally disappointed, so tried to get a refund. Can’t!.Version: 2023.0
