1Blocker - Ad Blocker for Negative User Reviews

Doesn’t always workDoesn’t always block ads until you pay for it..Version: 5.2.5

No Longer Works For YouTube On macOSI originally purchased this app for blocking ads on YouTube and it used to work great. However, since the latest update it no longer seems to be working. I've tried re-installing the app and resetting my settings in Safari but to no avail. Hopefully they fix this issue in the future..Version: 3.16

Once great, but categories let it downThis was once one of the best blockers on the market. However, changes to the category groupings have made it unusable. Previously (and still on the desktop version), EU cookie notices, crypto-miners, and other annoyances were in separate categories. Now they are grouped together under “Annoyances”. The problem with this is that some sites are broken by blocking EU Cookie notices, as it’s a legal requirement. A site breaking because you blocked a crypto miner is fine (that probably isn’t a site you want to use anyway), but almost all sites have cookie notices. Before you could turn off blocking for those categories independently, now you either have to deal with cryptominers and such as well, or have lots of site break. If they bring back granular categories then it would be 5 stars, as the basic ad-blocking is great. But 1Blocker X is sold and priced as much more than an ad-blocker and design changes have made those features broken..Version: 2.1

BadThe point of adblockers is to block ads trying to get you to pay for things. Ironically this app is full of ads and pop-ups itself continually asking you to pay for the premium version. Waste of a download, terrible product. Get yourself literally any other TRUE free adblocker..Version: 4.4.1

Disappointed. A long time user, now uninstalling.I've been using this extension for at least the last couple of years. It's been unobtrusive and generally a 'nice to have' with the odd occasion where it would cause a page to not behave as expected, but was easily turned off temporarily. The newest update now requires you to pay a premium subscription for any more than one category (e.g. you can block ads or you can block trackers, but unless you pay the subscription you can't do both). This isn't a subscription for new features that weren't available before, this is a subscription for features that were included in the previous version. This isn't a 'need to have' as there are a number of other services out there that offer the same features, some of which are still completely free. So, while the extension does what it says, it has moved to a subscription model with no added benefit to the user. Because of this, I'll now be uninstalling and looking elsewhere..Version: 3.15.1

Youtube doesnt workI know we were told that you were working on a fix for youtube. Its been a couple of weeks now and I cant use youtube on safari with 1blcoker installed. Ive tried diabling but it still doesnt work. Until this is fixed I cant give a 5 star review. Ive been using 1blocker and paying for it for 2 years now on my mac and iphone. Haven been very happy except for this one issue. Pleas fix it asap. Thanks.Version: 4.3

Stopped working with YouTubeWas working well until this week... 🙁.Version: 4.0.1

Very difficult to useThe UI of this app is atrocious: - toggles have ambiuous names that don't explain whether a feature will be on/off before/after you change the toggle state - text is too dark against a dark background - one panel claims "weekly updates" but it only appeared after I clicked a button claiming my updates were out of date - it's a Safari extension but it has a separate app to configure it? - every feature needs independent "allow" states in Safari (which is probably a good idea, but it's a clunky interface alongside the rest of the clunky interface) I also can't actually tell if it's working. I still see ads..Version: 4.1.13

Blocking access to your own webpage/accountI signed into my account on rumble and will not let me read the comments, not just on rumble but in other site as well. Blocking information that you want! I like my refund back please..Version: 5.2.2

It’s a great app but I keep needing to buy it againI had the old version which I paid for which went EOL and stopped being supported. I went and bought the new version which has now been updated with a shiny new subscription model..Version: 3.0.1

Subscription for paid customers = avoidNew version has subscription model for those that already paid a one time 4.99. Avoid and use AdGuard instead. They will never do what this developer has done on iOS..Version: 3.0.2

Draining My BatteryMy battery has been draining like crazy since the latest update. I don’t know what’s going on while running in the background but it’s sucking the juice out of my battery like there’s no tomorrow. Today I had to charge my phone multiple times..Version: 4.0.1

Runs 24/7 in backgroundGood at blocking adds. Terrible for battery. Runs 24/7 in background even with background app refresh off. Reset phone. Open and closed app: did nothing. Forced to un install app untill you can fix. A shame since I paid for a year subscription. Will give 5 starts when this issue is resolved and I can re install.Version: 4.0.1

Good, but lacks features without the PremiumThis is a good app, don’t get me wrong, but the thing is it only lets you choose 1 feature from the app at a time if you don’t have Premium. A solution to this is to enable one of the features that you want and then download another app to block the other feature(s) that you want. Other than that, this is a well-designed app, works well and works, giving this review 3 stars. And the developer reading this, I suggest that you consider allowing two features for free with non-Premium users. This will likely increase your downloads and overall traffic and 5-star reviews on your app..Version: 5.3

YouTube is become a real problemYouTube ads are running 40 to over five minutes long before video starts to play..Version: 5.6.1

Great app.. NotDidn’t actually block anything, or any cookies even though I had it enabled. Didn’t block adds or pop ups. My device would constantly be incredibly hot and my battery would drain very very fast after I installed it. Ridiculously long “Acknowledgments” that you have to accept, I can only assume in there it has some sketchy stuff that allows them to use your device as a bitcoin mine or something, because after I installed this my phone ran slower than a turtle. I can make an educated guess that this has some sort of virus or crypto miner. Shame, most of these apps, and free vpns too, have these sort of things..Version: 5.7

Used to be goodBreaks too many websites, have to disable it, which then, whats really the point? chat and messages get broken even though I don't have block widgets or comments turned on. Unable to click on any affiliate link, which sometimes one might want to do (like a link to a sale price of a product), and there's no way to customize this behavior. EDIT / Response: Ok I mean i will try to do that, right now its almost every website i have favorited or I turn it off, which defeats the point. In one example, 1blocker blocked the captcha making it impossible to login, other times by blocking the cookie request popup it then breaks other aspects of the site since their website expects a response to that prompt. I don't know how one resolves these issues, but other browsers like Brave or Arc with built in ad blockers don't have these problems..Version: 4.1.14

Maybe not as good as alternativesI’ve been using a competitor for a while but after hearing good things I decided to give 1Blocker a try. I have been disappointed to find out that it doesn’t as good of a job. There is a site I use to watch a TV series on, when using 1Blocker it detects I have an AdBlocker in use and it then proceeds to play the adverts before the video regardless. What ads (pun intended) insult to injury is the competitor app was free but this cost me £5..Version: 2.1.5

Attempts to upsellI thought I paid for a product with reliable blocking. Now has moved to a subscription model..Version: 3.8

Subscription model is not major updateThe developer did a sneaky act recently with a new attempt to get more money by switching it to a subscription model and calling it a major update so people update the app. It has the same features as before but removed the functionality for previous users to free version..Version: 3.0.3

Premium barely blocks ads anymoreNot sure if they’re slowly taking on money to show ads again like every other blocker seems to but either way this app doesn’t do it’s job anymore — I’m seeing tons of ads and everything is enabled and up to date..Version: 5.7

A step backwardsEdit: The new update brings back the function to edit custom rules from the old version, although it is still not the promised "all new" editor. 1. The only new thing beside more built in rules is the "all new editor". But where is the editor? Now I can't even edit Hide Element rules I added afterwards. 2. The regional rules are way too limited. I would like to have Japan and China specific rules. 3. I don't want your "News" tab. This is just adding bloat into a otherwise sleek app. 4. This upgrade is a pure money grab for the sole purpose of money grab. Note that they never added any new tracker rules in the original app in so many years and suddenly they want us to pay again for these..Version: 2.0.2

IneffectiveDoesn't work never has.Version: 3.9

Buggy app. Whitelist items have goneI use this app across several devices, including macOS version. My whitelist had only 2 records, however, each record consists of many items (domains). Due to the need I had removed one of the domain from whitelist, using Safari extension. And instead of just removing one domain it removed the entire whitelist record with hundreds whitelisted items. Emailed developers days ago and received no reply or anything. Also has posted macOS version review, but also haven’t received anything. Would strongly advise NOT buying this app as it still requires to be fixed and perhaps redesigned so above issue won’t happen again. Total waist of money for both iOS and macOS versions..Version: 2.0.3

Used to work greatSwitched to iOS & Mac, I purchased this blocker out of everything else. It used to block everything. But, more and more as of late I am having issues with ads on youtubes appearing and other streaming sites. It's unfortunate because uBlock Origin works perfectly on chrome, brave, edge etc. I use this for safari sync with my iphone and because safari is the most battery efficient browser on mac. Otherwise, I would recommend just going the uBlock origin route with a chromium based browser. Please, resolve the ads leaking through issue. It was great and I didn't have a complaint a few months ago. But, now nope..Version: 4.1.11

Waiting with interestI’ve just paid for premium and I await with interest to see how well it reduces ads. I wasn’t delighted to find out that it doesn’t block ads from social media, which wasn’t clearly stated until after my purchase, and which was the main reason I wanted it.. However looking forward to seeing how well it does..Version: 4.1.1

Pros and ConsThis adblocker works very well, and the firewall features blocking app-based tracking also work well. Many trackers were flagged as blocked immediately after activating the firewall. The downside to this extensive tracking is that this app uses a lot of processing power. Both my iPhone X and iPad Pro 10.5” ran significantly hotter while this app was running, and battery life was reduced by several hours. Unfortunately, since I have older devices with healthy but reduced battery capacity already, I can’t accept the trade off with using 1Blocker. Thankfully, this app has a trial period for the subscription features. Obviously newer devices will be less affected by the additional resources used by this app, but it’s clear this app uses a lot of resources. Give the free trial a try..Version: 5.2.5

Youtube adsLooks like latest update (free version) doesn’t work on youtube anymore. Have tried clearing data unsuccessfully.Version: 4.0.1

Round 3 Money Grab!I bought the original app then apparently it wouldn't work with newer device's. Then wouldn't you know it they came out with a new app that of course you had to repurchase. And now like all the other lunatics of apple-land ( Airmail can you hear me) they want you to pay a subscription. Of course they say if you purchased it nothing will change or its apples fault they haven't told us you have purchased the app before, or it takes up to 15min. Well most developers put but a button right next to some text that says restore purchase......isn't it funny if you pay now it instantly works but if you reinstall there is a issue. 🤣 What a shame, just like A LOT of apps that worked great and I supported I now have to find a new app or just block only trackers, or maybe adds.......Version: 3.1

Blocks most google search resultsI had the legacy version and was having problems with CNET autoplaying videos. I upgraded to this version and it actually worked to get those videos to stop autoplaying and interrupting my background audio. I was happy until I started noticing that when I did a google search for a product, most of the results were unclickable. They showed a black page saying “the url is blocked by a content blocker”. I whitelisted google and the problem persists. I turned off the Block Trackers rules and it started to load some of the blocked google search results but I just now googled a definition and Meriam-Webster was blocked. The developer states that you can get help on Twitter so I sent him 3 messages and received zero replies in 2 weeks. I don’t recommend this app unless the developer starts being available to help with problems that users may have. Right now, there isn’t much info on the internet for 1Blocker X so users have to rely on the developer for assistance..Version: 2.0.2

AnnoyingConstantly getting the upgrade to the new app alerts in the app (to get the new family sharing features, which i never wanted) and also see the allert the safari plug in. I have clicked the link, over and over, and gone through the upgrade process via mac app store and within safari. Freaking useless app, continues to bug me.. Only option. un install.Version: 3.15.1

Last update broke settingsThe latest update seems to have merged the Social and Comments blockers in to a single blocker. And this has broken many websites to me. Before the update I could see the comment sections of the websites I access regularly. But after the update, they were gone, without me changing any settings. I’ve managed to bring back the Disqus widget on one of the websites disabling some of the rules under “Social & Comments,” but for another website I had to turn off (whitelist) the latter blocker completely to have access to the comments again..Version: 2.1

Gave up after 15 minutesI installed it because I wanted an alternative to AdGuard but found that after installing it, signed up for a 2 week trial to see how good the blocking was with other filters enabled and found it kept letting through popups etc. not to mention that windows will keep opening saying that it was blocked even though it opened a new window - why tell me it is blocked if you still are allowing the popup to occur in the first place? I was hoping to something that meets the quality of uBlock origin but found that it isn't the replacement that I hoped for. The website I was trying to use was telepisodes - try using it with this and realise it blocks almost nothing..Version: 4.1.11

Money Money Devs Love MoneyThis app was literally created to move to subscription model. Old app was similar functionality and they made sure to push an update for old app making it completely useless. Even though it works perfectly. Devs spent time making sure to make it useless. Why not just remove it from AppStore because then people would notice the same app they paid for came back with subscription model. Enjoy your ad block created by greedy suits..Version: 3.4

Losing HopeI've been a loyal premium user from the start but the hide element feature is killing me. It doesnt mirror a website even with all rules off, and also there's no way to toggle existing rules on . Without this I can't reproduce the output I am seeing in Safari; making this feature mostly useless . The developer acknowledged this over two years ago but it's still not addressed; meanwhile this feature is increasingly more important to me what with all the pop-up elements and shading/blocking ad/offer overlay screens being utilized by websites these days. How hard is it to recreate Safari web views in the element viewer? I thought there was only one web engine in iOS. Can you please invest some time on this defunct feature ??.Version: 5.3.4

Doesn't do a thingSupposed to remove 'annoyances' and popups etc. Nothing changed. Popups kept popping up, slide-ins slid in, no effect whatsoever. Useless..Version: 4.0.2

Worked perfectly at first, now not at allAs said in the title, when I first enabled it, it was perfect- no ads at all. But then when I needed to use a website that I need to watch ads to redeem stuff, I disabled it for the time being. Afterward, I tried re-enabling it, and now it doesn't work. I have both "block ads" in settings on, and in the 1blocker app. And yet, still nothing. I tried deleting and reinstalling, but nothing changed. EDIT: I extremely appreciate the fact that this team replies to every review and tries their best, you are all hard workers. However, I'm still having the same issue. I have everything turned on, both in settings and app, but the ads are actually worse now..Version: 5.5

CAUTION: charges full year after 2 weeks freeDevelopers claim it’s clear they auto charge full year after 2wk trial. But if they weren’t trying to trap you for a year, why don’t they: give notice before making annual charge / auto charge monthly & encourage to annualise/ use industry standard month free, rather than expect you to keep track of charges pending in a fortnight?Poor response to complaint BLAMING ME. 0 stars as didn’t get chance to evaluate functionality in 2 wks. Well now I have a year….Version: 4.0.3

Does not workNew update does not block any ads..Version: 3.15.1

Did nothingI didn’t block any ads for me anywhere. Did nothing..Version: 5.5

PopupI’m just rating the app to stop the popup..Version: 5.5

No longer works on YouTubeI've been a long time 1Blocker user and it works everywhere else, but rarely on YouTube. After one of the last updates, I actually had a few months of no ads on YouTube, but it just stopped working again as of March 7th, 2024. It seems YouTube's algorithm is perpetually too crafty for the people at 1Blocker to figure it out consistently. Additionaly, with this latest loss of ad blocking on YouTube, not only can 1Blocker no longer block ads, YouTube has found a way to force you to watch ads at full length without any way to cancel the ad after 5 seconds as you're usually able to do. The only way to get the cancel ad tab back is to pause 1Blocker completely (the "allow site" function does nothing). Otherwise, you have to sit through 15-30 seconds, to as much as 3 straight minutes of an ad before the video plays. I give 1Blocker 4.5 stars on all other sites, but only 1.5 stars on YouTube. If you don't use YouTube much, this is a very good ad blocker, but for someone like myself who frequents YouTube, this issue has gone from not-so-great to begin with, to even worse. Having to pause 1Blocker every time I want to use YouTube, and then remembering to turn it back on again for other sites is extremely annoying. Let alone having multiple tabs or windows open. Help, 1Blocker! I like your app, but my YouTube experience wtih it has been less than stellar for the last several years I have been using it to say the least. It's only gotten worse..Version: 4.4.1

Still Solid But Update DisappointsOriginal Review: I’ve found little to no value in upgrading from the legacy version. The interface might actually be worse - they’ve removed the ability to enable/disable specific types of widgets (e.g., allow Twitter but disable other social media widgets) and lumped it all into an “annoyances” category that’s so tedious to customize it’s not worth the trouble. And you can’t whitelist specific features for certain sites, such as allow comments while blocking everything else. If you whitelist a site, you whitelist everything. And there’s still that long delay after you change anything in the settings, although I suspect this isn’t the app’s fault. Update: After around three months of use since upgrading, I’ve deleted the app from my phone. The “upgrade” was such a downgrade in performance and interface that it has made the app unusable. Time to find a new ad blocker..Version: 2.0.3

Doesn’t block adsJust installed it and doesn’t work… I will look for another blocker..Version: 5.7

Not for meDoesn't block Google popups.Version: 5.3.3

Firewall option to turn off for specific app?I really like 1Blocker, it just works. The firewall concept is amazing however it broke the functionality of a game app I used and because it’s either all on or all off, I have to keep it off, it’s a shame because otherwise the concept is great. If we could turn off the firewall for certain apps it would be perfect!.Version: 4.1

Third Party CookiesThis would have a been five star review as this is the best adblocker I have found so far, but...In the original version of of this app it was possible to create a universal blocker that blocked third party cookie from all sites, alas in 1BlockerX this no longer possible. I have shelled for a product that worse than its replacement, the developers should be ashamed of themselves..Version: 2.0.3

Battery EaterUpdate: 23 Sept 2021: Despite recent updates, still a real bad battery eater. I wont be resubscribing (expensive subscription for something largely disabled). Might change my mind it it improve (or price reduced)but as things stand now I wont. An important aspect to phones and tablets is battery and this app (firewall) eats through the battery. I regard the firewall as the main functionality (stopping all other apps from sending info to places you never realised existed and who you really don't want having who knows what about your app use). But the whole thing becomes daft when the app blocking that s but ss things stand nowunwanted data collection is eating through your battery..Version: 5.0

Broke YoutubeYoutube no longer works with this extension.Version: 4.3

Doesn't work with youtube adsJust doesn't work with youtube ads..Version: 4.0.2

Let down by overly aggressive firewallIn in-app blocker blocks all email subscriptions and has no apparent configurability making it useless.Version: 5.2.2

A bit clumsyBlocks legitimate pages like newsletter signups that ends up adding frustration to minimise whatever value it does add.Version: 4.1.4

Doesn’t block Meta servers & Firewall disconnects internet half the timeThe concept is good and it blocks ads well but it doesn’t block Meta servers (major reason we’re downloading / paying for it) and the Firewall feature randomly cuts off your internet connection for periods of time unless you disable it..Version: 5.2.3

Largely ineffectiveI used to love the great function of 1Blocker to the point i offloaded the others. This app just doesn’t want to work any more. Legitimate sites like foxnews, skynews Australia and lots of others (and there are many) are now not being cleaned up by this app. Ads by Google are invasive (that Google pestilence is like herpes) and there are lots of sites that use Google ad services and similar. Seems to me that this app is not being kept updated, for these commonly used sites are all but unreadable on an iPhone as things stand. I’m a bit over these 1Blocker types of developers who flog subscriptions and then down tools. I can’t support this developer any longer. “Take the money and run” … it’s not right, 1Blocker. It’s just not ok. Not by a long shot..Version: 5.6.1

Useless to meI downloaded this because there is a site to read translated novels that has a new ad after you dismiss one (actually 2) literally every paragraph. But downloading this only caused the site to block the page entirely. I searched for an answer related to this app but unfortunately theres nothing that comes up related to this specific app and answers for other blockers had no solution I could use. Theres no point in getting a blocker that is blocked by websites..Version: 5.7

Not working for meStill getting ads on tv app.Version: 3.3

Not effectiveDoesn’t work on YouTube..Version: 5.6.1

Adding a subscription? Why add a subscription model after already making people pay for another app? I would understand adding subscription if you had upgraded the legacy app. I am all for supporting devs, but not when they pull untrustworthy tactics like this..Version: 3.4

Seems great but too confusingI like this extenion, it works well I think but it seems too powerful. Some websites don't work and then I struggle to figure out what I need to disable to let it work. It can be customised but this also doesn't feel straight forward and I don't want to spend the time to figure out the exemptions..Version: 4.1.14

Features this good should just be built in iOS alreadySorry, I don’t believe in paying for something that should be free with my $1200 iPhone. App is unnecessarily locked down to basically force you to subscribe..Version: 5.0

Free versionFree version doesnt block anything.Version: 4.1.1

Removed features from paying customerI previously purchased the 1 blocker X app and enjoyed it but recently it has moved to a subscription model and removed some key features. Even though the developer addressed multiple complaints my customers saying that all the previous features open to customers who paid for the apps are still available, they are incorrect in this claim. You cannot select multiple categories e.g. ads, trackers, annoyances to block at the same time. It is limited to just one category. One of the features and attractions open to previously paying customers was the ability to block multiple categories. Not a very happy customer. I feel like I wasted money since this app is basically useless now. Will move to a different ad blocking app..Version: 3.0.2

Keep finding new ways to make you pay! While this is a great blocker, it appears as if the developers are constantly looking for ways to get you to pay again for what you thought you’d already bought! The latest approach is to suddenly introduce a cloud based subscription to update the blocking rules, which were previously updated for free! If I pay for this, it wouldn’t surprise me if they release a new version next year which I’ll have to buy!!.Version: 3.0.2

Not Keeping Up with the TimesBack in the day I used to use 1Blocker and it worked very well to stop annoyances and improve webpage performance. That is now no longer the case. 1Blocker does not seem to be able to come up with a reliable way to block the now ubiquitous EU/GDPR cookie notices that does not make pages unusable. On so many pages 1Blocker stops the cookie notice from appearing, but it does not stop the overlay behind it that blocks the page. The user is left with a non-functional page that will not scroll or accept any input. The only was to access it is reload without content blockers and answer the cookie notice question. Cookie notices have become so annoying they’re almost worse than ads, but having 1Blocker break so many webpages is the worst of all. I am moving away from using it and at this point won’t renew my subscription..Version: 3.14.2

Does not all it saidIt blocks most adds, but not all. Many nagging windows asking not to block adds are shown. Also, it’s supposed to block cookies per site. It die doesn’t work. I got AdGuard Pro, much better..Version: 5.4.1

AlrightIt made my phone much slower and didn’t block YouTube.com ads.Version: 5.4.1

UselessOddly had an old version which they stopped updated and started a whole seperate app. Downloaded this new one - even worse than the old version. Old version had ads interrupted constantly, but this new one literally don't even bother with blocking anything at all. I'm getting ads left right and centre. Don't bother. Update in response: All those silly steps were done obviously and didn't change anything. Don't just assume your user doesn't know what they're doing or blame someone else when you should just focus on making an app that does what it claims. Try again..Version: 3.16

Really good but can use improvements!I usually don’t review apps, but I felt like this one was important. This app is amazing. It blocks a wide variety of ads as well as inappropriate sites. Watching movies has become so much easier and less troubling than before. However, lots of people may use this app to stop addictions to porn, or to block inappropriate content from their kids. And while this app does block over 8,000 adult sites automatically (which is an amazing feature that I haven’t seen on other blocking apps.. usually you would have to add websites manually which is tedious and annoying), the fact that you can easily disable the safari filters defeats the purpose of the app. This app would be soo much better if there was an option to input passwords over the different safari filters. Would something like this be possible for the near future? Thanks..Version: 4.0.1

Neverending Cash GrabI bought 1blocker first version. Then I bought 1blockerX. Now you are introducing yet another premium version? When is this going to end??.Version: 3.0.1
