Ling - Language Lessons for Positive User Reviews

🤌Aside from the some of the seemingly fake reviews and over pushing upgrading to a subscription so much, I really like this app. Not only is it pretty much the only app I've found that has Latvian at all. Not even babel or Duolingo have it. While there is a couple others you *can* use, this app is so far the closest thing to Duolingo I've found. Which, for me duolingo works well because of the interactive games like matching pairs and remembering sentences for points and what not. The other apps I'm talking about are basically just automated flashcards. Not helpful for someone like me. There's obviously areas that could be improved but overall the selection and the type of learning style is what i feel makes this a good app if the language you wanna learn isn't on the bigger brands, because why would they 🤷🏼‍♀️.Version: 4.0.15

Good appAlthough there’s premium feature of the app and I cant pay it, I still think this is an app I’d recommend for the pinoys out there learning their mother-tongue. I can finally speak Tagalog thanks to this app! Salamat po! 🙏🙏🙏.Version: 6.2.4

The best language app! Far better than DuoThis app surpasses Duolingo in every way. Firstly, they offer a solid variety of languages. While Duo focuses on constantly expanding 5 European languages, this app has invested in dozens of Asian and European languages ! I am Bengali American, and came across this app because it was the only one offering Bengali. I was incredibly impressed by the quality of the Bengali course! The voice actors are actually from Bangladesh. The material is relevant. The accent is clear and authentic. I’m just blown away. I learned German with Duo, but sometimes I just need a vocab refresher. Yet Duo has no flash cards or quick refresher features. You have to go though a whole annoying lesson to review what you already learned. I tried German on this app, and it has the best refresher features. I’m blown away. Thank you to the developers for creating this gem..Version: 3.5.4

Good appI always wanted to learn Georgian as I have relatives in Georgia who speak only this language. I think this is is the first app I found in the past two years which quite decent..Version: 6.0.3

ErrorsNeed to check on your Serbian course. This is probably one of the only apps that offer a Serbian course, automatic 4 stars, still a lot of mistakes, what I read and what the audio says is different, mostly verb conjugations at this point, I haven’t progressed far but the app and interface is great..Version: 4.0.7

LOVE IT! RECOMMENDThis app is really helpful, it’s quite fun and really interactive. It makes sure you pay attention to what you’re learning and grades you out of three stars, then you have to complete an exam! It’s honestly really good. I recommend.Version: 6.0.3

Amazing app!Absolutely love this app! I’m learning Malaysian and Indonesian and this app teaches me relevant words in context at a great pace that makes it very easy to understand and apply..Version: 6.3.0

One of the apps that teach the Malaysian languageOne of the few apps that teach the Malaysian language well. Was using Duolingo before and learning Indonesian as no Malay offering, but this seems better suited for my needs. And a bit more varied courses to what Duolingo offers too..Version: 5.0.1

Problem with continuing at the end of a lessonI think this is a quick and easy app to learn different languages however whenever I’ve completed a lesson it won’t let me continue and because I can’t continue at the end of a lesson it won’t save any of my progress is there a way to fix this?.Version: 3.2.9

Random LearningI learned new vocabulary with this app and pronunciation was great and all that, but when I would try to use what I learned with other Malayalam speakers none of the topics taught naturally came up. And if it did and I used a word, sometimes they would tell me that no one really used that term for that even though they knew what I meant. And for learning numbers it doesn't teach you them in one lesson category but randomly. The vocabulary and dialogue saved section was a cool idea, but the dialogue didn’t have an English translation attached when it was saved, so I didn’t know what it meant anymore..Version: 6.0.6

It’s a good app....when it worksI’ve been using Ling for close to a month now and it’s easily my favorite language learning software. About 2 weeks ago I ran in to an issue with my app not working properly. Whenever I go through a lesson one of the questions will not load and I can’t finish the lesson. This has halted my learning experience completely. I have no way to track my progress or even finish a lesson properly. I’ve tried both apps, 2 different phones, 2 different iOS versions, and an iPad with all the same results. I even made a new account and got the same issue. I’ve worked with support but they haven’t been much help. So until the app is fixed I can’t do anything. The web version does not work either. I’m really holding out for Ling because I like it so much better than the others. But if I can’t use it I’ll have to look elsewhere. Edit. I can’t blame the developer for something that’s happening only to my devices. So I raised my rating to reflect my experience when the app works for me..Version: 2.9.0

Nice app butI love how many languages they have. I’m trying to learn some basic Nepali and this app is useful and pretty much the only app with Nepali. However, the sentences are WAY too hard for a beginner. In the second lesson it already has very long sentences and just gets worse from there. I wanted to start with “my name is…” and maybe “where is the bathroom” not “I like to sing Chinese songs and also draw pictures” (!??) also the explanation of the grammar structure is useless. This could work in conjunction with live lessons if you’re more of an Intermediate speaker.Version: 4.0.12

Only app I have found that has Urdu!Really good app, lovely design and easy to use. There isn’t much choice for learners of Urdu out there so I was very happy to find this. Thank you!.Version: 3.5.5

A great user friendly AppI found this app much easier to use than other language apps. It gives comprehensive grammar explanations as well as scaffolded lessons that provide the right amount of language learning each day..Version: 6.2.2

Helping me connect to my family’s rootsHello, I am a 20 year old college student. I was born in Bangladesh and my family came to America when I was around 6 years old. I’ve known Bengali my whole life but I recently realised I don’t know enough, like a lot of the words and cannot communicate with my mom perfectly efficiently. This app has been helping me learn Bengali really well and I just want to say how much I appreciate this app. Thank you for helping me stay connected to my family roots and for helping me achieve a better relationship with my parents!!.Version: 6.2.11

Pretty goodI am very happy that there is an app that offers languages that most other popular ones don’t. When learning a language it’s really important to have multiple resources and this app really helps. The pros this app has to offer: interactive, fun, improves pronunciation, multiple different exercises to help you learn, lesson plans in a particular order to build off of. Here are some cons: no help with understanding grammar or word order. Doesn’t tell you or explain instrumental words. This app helps you improve vocabulary of nouns and verbs, but gives no help with things like prepositions or pronouns. It’s really difficult to translate an entire sentence when you only understand two words. Thankfully, repeated exposure to different sentence structures and patterns will eventually help beginners catch on, but it will take a lot longer than necessary. I’ve also ran into a glitch or two, but there aren’t many and is not a major concern..Version: 6.0.6

Way better than DuolingoCan learn any language absolutely for free and able to speak proper sentences and conversations! :).Version: 4.0.4

Cantonese! So hard to find a language app with Cantonese. Thank you so much for helping preserve a language China is so desperately trying to stamp out. As for the app itself, it’s not as streamlined as something like HelloChinese (Mandarin only) or Duolingo (Mandarin only). However, this is the best option for Cantonese I can find and it’s still worth the money. ISSUES: - Speech recognition is too strict. My native Cantonese family and friends have trouble passing the speech recognition… - Voice speed is slow in the early part of the lesson and fast in the conversation at the end. So if you adjust the voice speed, either the early part is too slow and the conversation is normal, or the early part is normal and the conversation is too fast - Sometimes the lessons give questions before introducing the vocab for those questions later in the lesson. I know some Mandarin and Cantonese already so it’s okay for me, but would probably be confusing for a complete beginner SUGGESTIONS: - Speak the word or sentence after clicking it or answering correctly like Duolingo and HelloChinese. Hearing the characters or sentence after answering the question helps reinforce the knowledge - Grammar explanations: both Duolingo and especially HelloChinese have grammar explanations which are really helpful Overall I’m really happy with this app and hope to see it continue to improve! Thank you for your hard work!.Version: 3.5.0

Mostly goodI enjoy using the app and feel motivated to use it everyday. The Speaking lessons with voice recognition are a bit buggy. The volume of the app always goes very quiet when using these lessons which makes hard to repeat what is said - I then have to close the app and reopen to fix the sound. Also, if numbers don’t translate into words you get 0% even if the app recognises you say the correct number. The multiple choice questions can be too easy - often leaving you with picking the obvious answer. For example you might have to choose between “the man eats soup” and “the woman reads a book” - the differences are obvious. The choice really should be more similar like “the man reads a book”, “the man reads a newspaper” and “the man reads a magazine” The one other thing the app is missing is proper review functionality. Ideally it would use spaced repetition where you could review the words and phrases you forget the most - like Anki. I think if they could implement these sort of changes this would be the best language app available..Version: 5.0.6

EnjoyableI have been using the app for reviewing and learning Latvian. It is easy to use every day. Any plans for adding “spaced repetition” to the app?.Version: 3.6.7

Love this best language learning app I haveI love this app with all my heart it has so many amazing things that i want to point out words can’t explain how much I love this app I would give it 639 stars if I could it had so many opportunities for learning and so many options you can choose from in learning Farsi on Ling and it has made it so much more easy it’s a fun language learning app that has the best way of teaching you the only thing wrong is that it doesn’t have much animation that’s about it it’s my favorite language learning app with so many things you can do! And no I’m not a bot 😭 all I really have to say is that you should get it it helps a lot to make you motivated and helps you achieve your goal!.Version: 6.2.2

Bug in updateEnjoying the app so far, with a language that I’ve not found many resources to learn. Unfortunately the latest update seems to have a glitch, can no longer progress to the next lesson after completing one (need to force quit app and reopen, to go to new lesson).Version: 6.3.0

Ling language learningThis is a great app. It’s easy to use and gives you a straightforward way to hear and use vocabulary and to build sentences. It’s really good! The only thing I would complain about is how when you login to the web based app on a laptop when you sign out you lose the saved history of your progress. That was very disappointing to find out. The next time I logged in on my phone the memory was erased and I was essentially starting over. It was super frustrating given that I spent many hours building up the banana points. Otherwise it is a super app!.Version: 6.2.2

AMAZINGThis is like doulingo but Instead of a creepy owl its a silly monkey. The app teaches you instead of telling you like many other language apps. I'm currently learning Khmer and its very fun! 10/10! If you plan on learning a language that you can't find on doulingo do this!!.Version: 6.2.9

I want to love it butMaybe it’s just me but I’m experiencing a lot of bugs. I signed up for the 2 week free trial yesterday, July 6, and noticed the app would start charging me on July 13.. that’s only a week of free trial. I also have not been able to log back on bc the app keeps loading and closing. I’m trying to brush up on my Slovak and I loved the lessons and how they’re similar to Duolingo. I haven’t been able to find Slovak on any other apps and want to continue the lessons but if I’m going to invest money into a subscription I’d like to see some quick fixes before doing so..Version: 6.1.0

...Version: 3.6.6

Pretty good. Gets you speaking the language fastIt’s a good app. I find it a little better than Duolingo just for how the lesson plans are laid out and how it gets you speaking the language fast even if it’s just the basics. Although, I have found a lot of mistakes. I’m brushing up on my Irish right now so I already know quite a bit and have found many errors. A lot of the time they’ll ask you for “his uncle or her uncle” translations but the text in Irish actually translates to “my uncle” just as one example. So for a new learner that’s confusing and could cause issues. Other than that it’s great..Version: 3.5.0

A very good app that could be betterThe app is very good but at the start there is no basis on how to learn the alphabet or how the words are written. There is also no explanation as to how the words are formed when written in Thai. During the exams and reviews it then expects you to know this with no prompt early on which you will get wrong as a person who has no previous knowledge of Thai it’s a guessing game when asked to form sentences by writing Thai . There is also some microphone issues when voice recording yourself speak . Other than that the app is user friendly and easy to operate ..Version: 3.6.7

Good butI downloaded the app to help improve my urdu because i do know the language but i’m not perfect, it’s a really good app and it is fun but there’s really limited lessons you can do without paying😔😔.Version: 3.6.7

Very nice but for me confusingMy wife and her family speak Russian and Armenian, and I am trying to learn both. Russian lessons are easy to find because so many people speak it. Not many people speak Armenian, so there are hardly any resources out there which makes sense. I saw Ling on the App Store and bought it for a year. I am very confused at the teaching logic of this app. I don’t understand why numbers and letters (and other topics) aren’t in their own lesson instead of being spread throughout lessons. It is very fun to play with, but maybe it’s way too advanced for someone like me who knows no Armenian. I don’t think I will learn as well as I do with Drops and Rosetta Stone. Armenian is very difficult for me. I love the writing function how it first presents the letter, then you trace it, then you write it. That’s beyond cool and nothing that Drops or RS have. I just wish all the letters were together in one lesson like ABC’s..Version: 6.1.4

Good at teaching but…I have just started using this app and so far enjoy it and find it easy to use and educational. However, I think there should be an option where you can choose whether you are going to pay at all, as I only need this app for a few days and then I am departing on my holiday, so the repeated requests to subscribe are meaningless. However, great app and will continue using it.Version: 6.2.11

Good lessons, difficult interfaceGood lessons but I have difficulty with my phone. The answers at the very bottom of the screen are covered by the hint button and the next button. This means it’s hard to use those answers or move forward..Version: 4.0.0

MixedA great choice of languages but the pricing structure is terrible. They either want to charge you $10 a month or lifetime for $100. I don’t want the whole app, just let me buy a single language for $10-20 dollars..Version: 3.6.2

An app that needs a lot of improvementThis app gets worse for Slovenian the more you use it. It keeps coming up with a totally different language and it’s getting more and more frequent. Also the speaker has a verbal tic so teaches the pronounciation wrong. Lastly they sometimes teach the words in the wrong case or say it’s singular when it’s plural. However, if you don’t rely on it alone to learn, it can give useful practice and help with word order, if you ignore the verbal tic of the one woman you can also improve pronounciation. It also improves vocabulary. Don’t rely on it to understand grammar. You have to have lessons for that or proper books that teach it. Still worth subscribing and using the app. It’s also possible that some of these things have been ironed out since I first wrote this review, although the annoying tic is still there..Version: 5.0.2

5 starsWay easier and better than Duolingo.Version: 5.0.6

Finally a decent Cantonese app! There’s not a lot of choice out there for Cantonese learning apps that have a great app design, so glad I finally found out about Ling! So far I’ve found it really easy to use and making good progress. Only minor feedback is the vocal exams are a bit hit or miss, I’ve checked my pronunciation with native speakers so It’s correct but the voice recognition keeps giving ‘0’ as the score for quite a few words. That’s only minor through as it forms a small part of the overall lessons..Version: 3.4.0

LingoI wanted to learn urdu in duolingo but there did not have that’s why i search this came up and now i know urdu.Version: 4.0.3

Really great so farI’ve been looking for an app that has Bengali since Duolingo doesn’t have it. Just started today and loved the first lesson, exactly what I was looking for. Will be subscribing.Version: 6.2.2

Awesome App! Be aware does not work well on iPhones older than 6SI was using this app on an iPhone 6+ and it worked well for 2weeks and then started crashing. The customer service team for Ling is incredible and were trying to solve the issue. Contacting me daily for updates and offering solutions. Unfortunately it wasn’t working. I upgraded to iPhone 13 specifically so I could use this app and it is again amazing! I love the interactive games, the speech/pronunciation tests and I am very quickly learning to speak one of the most challenging languages. If you want to learn a hard to find language Buy This App! Love it!.Version: 4.0.8

Telugu learning made easyFantastic app for languages not on Duolingo. I am learning Telugu using Ling and it’s excellent! I am so happy to have found this to help me learn Telugu more easily. Thank you!.Version: 4.0.4

Good app! This is a pretty good app so far, I use it to learn Thai. But I am having problem starting the app lately. It would not open on either of my iPhone or my iPad. I never had this problem before. I don’t know if there’s someone else that is having the same problem?.Version: 3.4.6

Dank je!Thanks to Ling! I recently found this amazing learning app and ever since I got it I won’t stop using it! I really wanted to reconnect with my Dutch origins and Ling as made it so easy for me! Thank you Ling! 🇳🇱❤️.Version: 6.2.2

Continued learning experience, for all!Lovely staff, who work to correct any errors you may find. Do not give them a lower star rating if you find a fault bug or glitch. Send them a feedback message. They will correct it like they had done for me. Here’s to learning languages not found elsewhere!.Version: 4.0.13

GreatLove the app. Could you add landscape mode for iPads. And also having the option to choose between male and female voices would be awesome..Version: 5.0.3

Appgonefree and universalI got this for 14 days no subscription from apps gone free I am loving this language app and I learn so quick and it will really help my language barrier with my friend and understand her better although she is both Bulgarian and fluent English..Version: 3.1.1

This app could be so much more !The app provides high quality education to an extent with the comprehensive activities it provides to learners, however i believe the activities themselves are fairly insufficient and extremely repetitive. The repetitiveness is beneficial but only to a certain threshold where you’re are still left wondering about certain grammatical inquires etc. Things they should add to vastly improve the app : 1) Add a section where students can free write in whatever language a student is studying and have a marking feature that shows when you are incorrect in any way grammaticaly, vocabulation wise etc. 2) Add a vocal studying section, where students have the ability to practise pronounciation and fluency, which is arguably the most detrimental part of learning any new language and it would seriously seperate Ling from other language learning apps massively. 3) Make the examinations at the end of each lesson much longer and more versatile with the questions being asked to students. I feel as if the questions are so predictable and repetitive which really limits the learner from absorbing the necessary information and questioning (that they would occur in a real scenario speaking whatever language) that is needed in order to acheive true fluency. Other than that so far so good, All the best to the team..Version: 6.0.0

I really love this app, but there are some serious bug issuesMy best friend is from South Africa so I wanted to learn Afrikaans to surprise them. I got really far into the lessons and I’m learning so much. The one set back that has made me time and time again have to delete the app and re-download to reset is that it will skip me ahead in the lessons. This is only been happening for a couple months and I’ve found it has been happening since the latest update to the app. An example when I was redoing the exam for the introduction was the sentence “Ek praat Engles” (I speak English) I put in the correct answer and hit continue but while I did that it suddenly skipped me ahead to another completely different sentence and marked me wrong. This keeps happening and it’s really frustrating as nowhere else can I learn Afrikaans, as many sites like Duolingo and Rosetta Stone say it’s “too close to Dutch and not a popular enough language to bother teaching.” I will keep using the app as I paid for the yearly subscription but if someone could please look into the glitch I would really appreciate it. I don’t want to quit learning a language I’ve come to enjoy speaking because of a glitch. Thank you..Version: 4.0.4

Great appI really enjoy learning Afrikaans on this, sometimes the words are a little backwards tho, I usually just ask my sister (who speaks fluently) if it looks slightly off. Great app all in all tho.Version: 2.4.0

Very goodI think this app is quite good to learn korean on. I especially like practising my speaking skills using the chat bot or the “speaking” section. However, the only thing that i have a problem with is the mixed formalities (나 & 입니다 being used in the same sentence) it is awkward when speaking to natives.Version: 3.2.5

Update broke good appI have been using Ling for a month and a half to learn Lithuanian. The format is perfect because it lets you learn without needing to tackle conjugating absolutely everything all at once. Unfortunately, about two weeks ago the app must have updated because I opened it and it had lost all of my exams, begun speaking the answers to questions I’m supposed to be answering, and removed the very useful review feature. Now there are suddenly some translation errors and a speaking feature has been added that I haven’t had any luck with. This app was perfect, I was having a ton of fun making a lot of progress. It’s less useful and less satisfying now..Version: 4.0.0

Great!I’ve been wanting to learn Cantonese as it’s the language my boyfriend’s family speaks, and I was happy to see that a great language app like Ling teaches it! They have lots of languages on here, many that I haven’t even heard of. The lessons are in good sized chunks, and the dialogue at the end is very useful for learning conversation and using the lessons in practice. Just a few points though, there isn’t a good streak function! It shows you how many days in one week you’ve had a streak, and it shows you your longest streak. Having your current streak would be great to give me motivation to keep it up! Also it would be great to translate individual words and explain why some sentences are constructed in certain ways, and have a grammar summary for Cantonese..Version: 3.6.7

Speaking feature is great in theory but works poorlyUpdate: I really have to give these app developers credit for responding to feedback and improving the app, thank you! After a bumpy start, I came back to speaking feature and it worked perfectly! Overall I think the update is working well! The speaking feature works so poorly it might as well not be there. If I speak at a normal pace it only catches about half of what I’m saying. If I speak very slowly, it adds extra syllables I didn’t say. There is no way I can get it to recognize what I’m saying. Otherwise the update seems ok, some mismatch between vocabulary in the lessons and the sentences being used (ie, “a soldier” is the vocabulary word but the sentence is something like “My father is a lawyer”)..Version: 4.0.12

Pretty greatThis app is very useful for learning vocabulary and provides a solid foundation for learning new languages for which there is very little learning material available. The only downside would be the vocal recognition. The app has a hard time understanding me, no matter how articulate I am (which is a shame, because the Chatbot feature has a lot of potential). The "review all" feature could also be revamped in my opinion. Amazing job nonetheless.Version: 3.4.3

Good appIt’s an amazing apps but, I feel like when it comes to putting together the lettering of a foreign language, when you tap on a word, it should say what it says. It’s easier to learn lettering that way. Say if it read “빈” It should say (with the voice) the Korean pronunciation (in this case it’s bean).Version: 3.5.8

Great customer serviceGood, accessible language lessons. I’ve been doing Khmer which is not offered by many language apps. Very impressed by the customer service - when I had an issue I got a response within hours and help that resolved my issue. There are huge multinational companies that could learn from Ling!.Version: 5.0.0

No sentence correctionLearning Thai and so far loving the app. The lesson structure is great and they are quick and easy. However my only issue is that when they have you write the actual sentences they are written out phonetically in English letters and when you get it wrong it doesn’t tell you what exactly you got wrong. Or maybe it does but shows the correct sentence in Thai instead of the phonetic spelling that they have you work with. It is frustrating because I end up making mistakes over and over without knowing what I am doing wrong and how to fix it. That is the only thing that I am struggling with learning and it’s because I genuinely can’t tell what I’m doing wrong because it won’t show me. Other than that the app is great, but that one feature bugs me extremely..Version: 4.0.7

Better than DuolingoWay more languages than Duolingo has. Best app.Version: 2.5.13

Five starsAbsolutely perfect for my daughter Alice to learn Bulgarian.Version: 6.0.7

ThaiThe writing part is very difficult to pass I write the letter correctly many times but it won’t let me pass.Version: 5.0.9

Great Language Learning AppLearn Thai (and 49 other languages) in fun, bite sized chunks. I love the native voice samples and situational lessons. Thanks Ling!.Version: 2.3.0

Loving itThis is a great app. I'm currently learning Khmer with this app. It offers an outstanding amount of good phrases that people actually say. The level is broken down really well. There is other languages you can choose from as well..Version: 2.3.8

Really fun appI’ve enjoyed learning Korean in the app and find its really nice layout. Trying to still figure out my level but I’m enjoying going through the simple levels. The app could use some better explanation as some features are harder to figure out but it’s still really easy to use.Version: 2.3.8

Good but not perfectI lived in Laos for a few years in the mid 90’s. I learned the basics. I had a friend teach me the characters and got to the point I could read, but not understand what I read. I could speak simple everyday things. It has been years and I’ve always wanted to learn Lao better and never had a way to do it. This app looks like it could help. I might take the plunge in paying for it after I learn Danish. From this free trial I like it. It’s similar to Duolingo with a few small differences. I do notice that the app speaks very slow, which can be good, but no one speaks that slow. One negative is that during the lesson it wants you to fill in the blank and it only has letters and no characters. How are we suppose to learn a language if they put emphasis on letters and not the characters? I understand to have them near it to help with pronunciation, but it should not be the prominent thing. If anything they should have the characters larger than the letter pronunciations. Also the chat AI not only shows a multiple choice to answer. I feel it would be better if I could speak and it tells me how well I spoke the word. Either way it’s a great way to get me started and learning. Way better than what I had which was just dictionaries and kindergarten books with no one to help me out anymore. lol.Version: 6.2.11

Version 3 Amazing, Version 4 Not So Great5 stars for version 3. Version 4 not so great. I even erased my phone and restored it in order to go back to version 3. If you’re lucky enough to get version 3 I can’t recommend it enough. It’s both a fun and really effective way to learn another language. I’ve always been horrible at foreign languages but with Ling version 3 I’m blown away by how much I can speak in just 2 months. And it’s fun! Features in version 3 NOT IN VERSION 4: - Review all the words you’ve learned so far - Review the words you learned in the lesson you just completed - Report an error in a lesson. It was really easy and they’d usually get back to you within a day or two. Version 4 does not have this and upon getting version 4 the lesson broke and it was impossible to make it farther than half way through the lesson. So I actually needed to report the error which I can only do in version 3. Both versions have the fun and interactive lessons which are great. However to really make it stick I’ve found reviewing vocabulary every couple days is key. Unfortunately in version 4 you can’t do this anymore. The only way to see what you’ve learned would be repeating every lesson over again. In version 3 however you could review all the vocabulary by just swiping which is 20 times faster. I hope the developers will go back to version 3 or at least bring back all the features they had. It really was a great app!.Version: 4.0.5

How it helped me learnIt helped me learn by telling me the words and I repeated and told me the alphabet and it was just happiness I really recommend this app for your kids to learn languages or anyone else:)..Version: 3.3.0

Love it!I love this little app. Language is not my strong suit but this makes it more fun. 👍💝.Version: 6.1.5

Easy to followThis app is very clear and easy to follow Hearing the pronunciation really helps Great.Version: 3.5.0

Amazing app and staffThe app itself is 10/10, there was a small issue that was a server error, customer service was impressively fast at responding to my question.Version: 5.0.1

Really Great App for Learning UrduFor languages like urdu there aren’t any other apps which are any good. Sometimes there are bugs where fill in the blank sentence words disappear but overall could not recommend more!!!.Version: 4.0.4

I think over all it's a great appI chose to learn Khmer because I am half Khmer and want to learn my language. It is hard for me to find an app that works and that has a real Khmer person with an accent say these words so I know I’m saying the words right I only took one lesson and I did pretty I know if I had paid for the subscription which is not too expensive so I might ask you pay for it. I do wish there were a couple more free courses but overall great job thank you..Version: 6.0.5

A clean and helpful learning app!I used Ling before in the past and decided to revisit it today after an e-mail sent to me. Not only is the app much faster and more responsive than it was before, but the team behind it is also very kind and speedy to my e-mail! I’m currently using Ling to become more fluent in Tagalog and from the looks of it, the learning material is pretty accurate! I highly appreciate that Ling offers languages outside of the norm. Thank you so much Simon for getting back to me in a speed manner!.Version: 2.3.0

Authentic Learning ExperienceThere are so many things about Ling that I prefer to other alternatives. In particular, the authentic conversations contained in each lesson that you can hear and replay and that then you have to select which words you hear really helps me with learning a language. I like the reminders to learn so that I can keep moving forwards, and the matching exercises too. This is my favorite language learning app by far and totally worth the money..Version: 6.1.2

Great layoutI enjoy the layout of this app. I have wanted to learn Serbian my whole life as my family comes from there. This is the first app I’ve seen with a user friendly interface that offers Serbian. An enjoyable way to learn! Very nice that I was able to try the first two units for free to really experience the app before purchasing the pro version to continue my learning!.Version: 3.5.6

Great app, but fix the speaking portion pleaseThis app is better than Duolingo by far, although the speaking portion where you need to use your microphone doesn’t work. On multiple attempts with different microphones the app does not pick up any words spoken.Version: 3.4.4

Happy to find Cantonese here!As duolingo doesn’t offer Cantonese, it’s been really helpful to use this app along with some other tools to start my journey. Sometimes I feel like I don’t get it on the day but when I come back later I realise I have picked up some basics and can grow from there. I hope that soon I can surprise my partner’s family with some basic conversation!.Version: 3.3.3

Best app everI never ever in my life wrote an review but now I’m because I want to tell you this is the best thing ever the sound is good it has everything you need 10:10.Version: 3.2.2

Love and Hate relationshipThe app is annoying. It’s great because it’s a great way of slowly learning a new language BUT it cuts out so many times! I’ll be learning new vocabulary with a task and suddenly I can’t check my answer and have to move onto the next vocabulary and have less progress than I should. Also it cuts off and makes the screen go black multiple times. I’ve found deleting the app and downloading it again helps but it’s a bit annoying when you pay money for an app to not fully work to its full potential. As much as I am annoyed by the app, it’s the best app to learn Serbian on that I’ve tried that also makes it worth the money. If these bugs could get fixed, I will for sure renew my membership within a years time..Version: 4.0.4

GoodGood.Version: 3.5.2

Cool app: a suggestionYou have an impressive collection of languages in this app, with good global reach. One omission, however, is Icelandic, a language is not well served by other language apps: perhaps you could look into creating a course?.Version: 6.0.6

Day one of learning GeorgianThis app is great it teaches you important words that you would use and I think that’s good I also like the selection of languages they had a bunch with they had a few more like Macedonian,Azerbaijani and Q’eqchi although this app is amazing definitely recommend.Version: 5.0.6

Cantonese!**Update** I bought the lifetime plan. Syncing issues are regular when logging in to new device. It’s frustrating having to do basic lessons over again (though I could use the practice). It’s still a great resource for Cantonese since options are limited. —— It is hard to find quality resources for learning Cantonese. My only feedback at this point is for the voice playback speed to be set at natural speech pace and have the slow button play what is currently normal speed. I have it set to 1.5 speed and it still feels slow. My wife and in-laws speak much faster and I would like the app to allow me a chance to practice at natural speed. Thank you!.Version: 4.0.0

Easy learningI am using this app to learn Bulgarian, which is difficult and not many apps support it. The pronunciations are clear and accurate. I personally like how you can repeat or slow a word to ensure you’re understanding. To keep your interests peaked, the app offers matching, spelling and fill in the blank exercises in each section; so you not only know how to say a word but use it in a sentence or conversation. For additional practice, there is also a chat box where you can simulate conversations to test what you’ve learned. Overall, I’m happy with this app and would highly recommend for language learning..Version: 2.4.0

Better than DuolingoLing is great for its addition of obscure lesser spoken languages some people may want to learn like Georgian, Tamil and Bosnian.Version: 6.2.8

FALEMINDERITI’m from Kosovo and we speak albanian there but we have a small different dialect but that’s ok and I was born in canada so my first language is English and I just took my first Albanian lesson and it’s working a lot thank you.Version: 6.1.5

OkayLing does need some improvements like microphone.Version: 6.2.2

Nice program, jury still out on effectivenessI’m only a few days into it, but I’m determined to stay with it. I’ve spent a lot more on other ones, but couldn’t hang in there. I’m a little further along from visiting the country and using the language now, so that may help me as well. There are a few things I would change right now, but maybe as I get further in, the changes I think should happen will. Regardless, this was pretty inexpensive and seems to be working ok..Version: 3.4.4

So far so good!I feel the app is very good at providing a more structured approach to learning with pretty good lessons. It’s a nice difference compared to Duolingo or Chineasy. My only concern right now is the Speaking. I’m learning Chinese(Simplified), and everything is going well except the speaking lessons. I can’t seem to get higher than a 30% accuracy and I’m not sure why. In apps like Duolingo or Chineasy, I seem to be doing fine, but Ling is not recognizing what I’m saying. I’m willing to concede it may be me, and that the other apps are too lenient, but it just feels very punishing or just wrong. Besides the speaking though, every other aspect is fantastic!.Version: 6.2.2

Amazing app! This is so amazing and helpful I’m learning Albanian and have already learnt so much..Version: 3.6.6

One of the best language apps for KoreanMuch better than the popular language apps. I haven’t gotten too far yet, but I’ve really been enjoying it as a learning supplement with my textbooks. Really love the speaking function as well! Tons of unique features. I think the only thing I’ve come across so far is the use of 당신 that can cause some bad habits and awkward speaking, but I know it helps English speakers understand when they’re first learning Korean, so I’m not sure if that changes further into the units or not, just one thing I wish was a little more natural! Still 100% amazing..Version: 2.3.3

Great appThis app is great! I’m moving to Malaysia soon so this will help me a lot with learning the language!!.Version: 4.0.5

Nice app! This app has some nice functionality! Being able to turn on and off romanizations is handy, and I especially enjoy the conversations at the end of every lesson. I think it would be nice if there were more grammar notes for the conversations and perhaps a separate option so that we can actually review them on their own. In general I would also like to see a tab for just being able to review the grammar notes that come along with the lesson! Something to take note of: When clicking on multiple words, the voice clips play over one another. It’s not that big of a deal but you might want to keep an eye out for it. Also, typing numbers for Korean is finicky (마흔/사십 is marked wrong due to it being 사십/마흔), and the voice pickup wasn’t working for me in Chinese. I’m overall very impressed, especially since so many languages have already been implemented! I’m definitely sticking around to watch as this app develops..Version: 2.3.3

Very helpfulIt is very helpful since it has all languages Thanks..Version: 6.2.10

Great AppBest Thai Learning App I’ve come across. Keeps me interested and challenged..Version: 2.3.0

Really great!I love it soooooo much that I can speak fluently in my own language.Version: 6.2.4

PunjabiBought it for Punjabi and it is great! Punjabi is not offered with Duo Lingo. If u don’t like Duo lingo u won’t like this…. Everyone has different preferences for learning and we love this style….Version: 6.0.3

GoodThis app is amazing for learning Cantonese as it does sentences and not just certain words, but you only get to do intro and basic sentences for free the others you have to pay for which I think is quite a shame others wise I would’ve given it a 5.Version: 3.2.1

Great appI’m learning Serbian because it is my home language and I grew up somewhere else so I never got to learn it, but this app is helping me learn Serbian and helping me understand my far away relatives! Great app.Version: 4.0.0

Learning PunjabiSo happy to find this app! It offers a variety of languages, makes the learning process fun and easy. Huge help that the alternative languages are available in English characters to support faster conversational speaking..Version: 5.0.6

Much improvedChanging my old review to reflect the massive improvements they’ve made with this app. Highly recommended, particularly for those looking to learn Thai through an app..Version: 6.0.0

Thank youI studied Thai for twelve weeks last year and couldn’t afford to continue but this is a great affordable way to continue with studying every day . Thank you Ling !.Version: 3.6.7

Good language appHave given this a go recently with mandarin and Cantonese. Seems to be quite useful and easy to use, a bit different and more interactive than other podcasts or language apps I’ve tried. Only slight flaw is that the speech recognition seems subpar, I’ve been asked for feedback on that so will try and help to see if it will be improved.Version: 2.4.0

Great but…(For the Russian course) The writing lessons are way too hard for beginners. Even near exact replication of the letters is rejected. Other than that, it’s a great app.Version: 4.0.0

Loving itLove that this app has languages that duolingo doesn’t have, so I’m using both to satisfy my learning needs! Appreciate the developers!!.Version: 6.2.2

Decent Duolingo copy with more obscure languagesThe app is decent overall. A more clunky but diverse version of Duolingo. Could definitely use some polish in terms of the application design. The courses a decent and offer a great variety in languages that Duolingo seems hesitant to take on. I’ve been trying Albanian out and I like the courses. That said, one huge issue is the app currently doesn’t even launch on my device. iPhone 13 Pro running the latest iOS 16.5.1 version. No idea what to do other than reinstall the app, which I can’t do right now. Anyway, solid app overall that could definitely use some work. A good second app to accompany Duolingo for missing languages..Version: 6.1.0

AmazingThe app is absolutely amazing I am going to Nepal soon so this is very helpful.Version: 4.0.4

Ling is good it has TagalogYa.Version: 6.2.5
