Ling - Language Lessons for Negative User Reviews

I like itI just hoped I was able to learn urdu without paying.Version: 6.0.5

It’s okay, but the best! This app does teach you words, but not the vocabulary or characters in the language. but thats no big to me since i already know them, what confuses me about this app is how the language appears sometimes. the app tries to put it in a way that you understand or help you pronounce it but it honestly just makes me confused. for example, i’m learning korean using this app. it’ll be something like, “저는 여자입니다” translation: I am a woman. and the app will sometimes get rid of the korean characters and try to make it english which would look like; “joe nun youjaibnida”. it’s confusing and i wish there was a option to turn that off or something. the app also doesn’t properly explain how to form sentences, for example, i know 저는 means i and is used when youre in a lower class/position than the persom you’re talking to, for example they might be older! i learned that from another app and so now i know when to use it and when not to use it. it would be nice if they had something like that.Version: 4.0.13

App isn’t workingThe words are accelerated for Urdu it’s said super fast so you can’t pick anything and then when I click on a word to put them in order it is copying the word below instead of placing in the specified box so instead of mein aik aurat hon it’s saying mein mein hon hon.Version: 4.0.4

Unsupportive learningI tried the very first vocal unit and it was fine until I got to the last part where it made me listen to a conversation and then fill in the blanks based on the conversation, which would be great except it included none of the words I had just covered in the VERY FIRST unit of vocab. Completely unacceptable and a disappointment from an otherwise good looking app.Version: 5.0.1

Great app but VERY buggy - PLEASE FIXI just downloaded the app yesterday and LOVED it. I tried to come back for a second lesson during the day and the app completely crashed. I was left with a blank white screen for a day and a half and today I came back and the app was still unresponsive. I’ve deleted and redownloaded the app several times, and this issue persists. Either the screen will be entirely white, or the Ling screen will be unresponsive to my touch. I have no issues with other apps on my phone - only Ling. It’s a shame cuz it’s a great app lesson-wise, but now I can’t even enjoy my free trial. It’s running out as we speak so even if this issue gets fixed, I would have to pay without even fully enjoying my free trial :(.Version: 6.2.11

Lots of Potential but needs better checkingThis app has a lot of potential to be great. It’s engaging and has good scaffolding of the lessons. However, sometimes the audio doesn’t match up with the transliteration or it says your answer is wrong when it is actually correct. Please double check each lesson guys before you allow it to go live to the customer and you’ll have a great product..Version: 4.0.3

App doesn’t openApp gets stuck on opening screen with logo Never been able to use it. I can see this was also an issue last year so clearly hasn’t been fixed. Do not cut and paste a reply saying you’re sorry, just fix it please.Version: 6.2.2

QualityI am using the farsi language learning. There is a lot of good things about this app, the interface is good and there seems to be a lot of content as well as pronunciation, pictures, etc. It has a large variety of things to learn, but first, it seems to have no structure and little plan, as well as little progression for you to move along a plan. Next, in just my second lesson, it had several errors. If I pay $15 a month for this, I expect much better quality in the content I’m learning. Finally, I found no alphabet tutorial, so if you come into this without knowing the farsi alphabet you will blindly be learning the words, if that’s your goal then great, but it makes no attempt to teach it other than you figuring it out yourself, from what I have seen (I did not spend much time investigating, just looked through first couple lessons).Version: 6.2.10

Can not adjust speedI have been using Ling for approximately a month. Initially it worked great. I am using the app on my iPhone 12 Max Pro, running iOS version 15.6. One day ago, I logged in and tried to begin my next lesson. The speed was so fast I could not even make out the word to pronounce. I tried to adjust the speed(it was set to 3 in the settings. I was given choices ranging from .5 to 2.5 with the “normal setting directly in the middle of the speed choices. No matter what speed I choose, the program reverts back to a speed of 3 and will not stay in my selected speed. I can not use the paid for premium version or any other version for that matter. Please help me to resolve this problem so I may continue my learning adventure..Version: 4.0.4

App does not openDownloaded the App today (21/05/2023) and the app has crashed, and not opened repeatedly for the past hour. I have tried troubleshooting by uninstalling and reinstalling the app as well as turning off my phone and turning it back on to no success. Please fix this issue..Version: 6.0.6

$50 basically wastedI’m learning Tamil so I can speak with my partner’s family, and Ling was voted the best way to learn. I have learned how to say many words; however, I regret spending money on it. Tamil is a very old language and this app doesn’t teach you modern Tamil, but the older and more formal Tamil that very few people still speak. My partner is constantly saying “that’s not how we say it anymore.” What really bothered me enough to write a review, though, was the fact that they misspelled a phonetic translation! They taught the word and spelled the English phonetics one way, and spelled it another way in the conversation portion (sort of like a quiz) at the end! This is irresponsible, especially because the spelling of the English phonetics is important with Tamil; you need to type out the phonetics on the iPhone Anjal keyboard, since the Tamil letter keyboard doesn’t include all Tamil letters. I won’t recommend this app to anyone. I gave it two stars only because I have learned some things, but overall this is a waste..Version: 6.0.0

Decent as the only optionDownloaded to learn Nepali so I can speak to my partner in his primary language. Overall this app is OK mostly since it’s the only option of an “easy”, gamified way to learn Nepali. I don’t think the people who created it know how people learn languages though! It started out OK, introducing simple words (boy, girl, man, woman) one at a time. But near the end of each lesson you have to click words to put them in the correct order in a sentence - how is a beginner supposed to do that when I don’t know how Nepali sentences are structured? So I get it “wrong” just because I don’t know the order, with no explanation as to why the sentences are ordered the way they are. There’s also a conversation you listen to / read and you have to then fill in the correct words - but it doesn’t even test on the words you learned?? I do really like the interface for learning the alphabet, tracing the characters is cool. I might just use DuoLingo to learn Hindi instead..Version: 6.2.7

Lesson plans aren’t well thought outI wanted to like this app, because I love Duolingo and Ling’s interface seemed very similar to Duo (but unfortunately Duo doesn’t have a Tagalog course). After going through the first lesson learning beginner words like “man, woman, boy, girl” I was very surprised to move onto learning random numbers like “12, 14, and 40” and intermediate level conversations. The lesson continued to progress into random words and conversations - but I had never learned all the basics yet! I have to give this app 2 stars (for the nice interface, and actually having a Tagalog option on here) - but unfortunately I already deleted the app because it doesn’t seem like a logical and effective way to learn Tagalog..Version: 6.0.0

Sincerely disappointing experienceI downloaded Ling because it was the only app available with an Albanian course. That being said, my review is solely based on my experience with the Albanian course on Ling. The course is organized in a very strange manner and is riddled with an extreme number of errors. For instance, it tells you how the compound letter ‘gj’ sounds (like the ‘dj’ sound in jeans) and then gives an example word of xhep, which doesn’t have ‘gj’ in it at all. This type of error is commonplace throughout the lessons. The course starts by teaching you the words for boy, girl, man, and woman, which is sensible and similar to many other language courses. However, it then proceeds to teach you the words for twenty five, twelve, fourteen, and forty. How that random collection of numbers ever made sense enough to be approved and published is beyond me. The entire course needs to be edited and rearranged to make it even somewhat functional. One additional note, when I downloaded the app it said there was a free one week trial. However, when I downloaded the app it immediately charged me for a one year subscription. I would gladly pay for the subscription anyway, as I need to learn Albanian, but the way I was charged was dishonest at best. Moreover, with the current state of the Albanian course, I feel like I’m getting very little for the money. As the title of the review states, for me this has been a sincerely disappointing experience..Version: 4.0.0

Fun and good concept but… needs improvementHello, I think your platform could improve by adding direct literal translations. I am doing the Punjabi lessons and luckily I already understand some of the sentence structure. However, for example, “ ਕੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਲੜਕੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹੋ? Ki tusi us ladki da naam jande ho?” Do you know that girl’s name? It would be helpful to know which punjabi words correspond to the equivalent English words. I don’t know if “ladki” means “that girl” for example. Thank you for any response you might give..Version: 6.2.11

EnjoyableThis is an enjoyable app and I’ve got on well with it so far however the new addition to talk is welcoming however it doesn’t work. I press the button to talk and it doesn’t hear me or doesn’t review me etc..Version: 4.0.0

Wont even openFresh install on brand new iPhone 14 Pro Max with latest version and the app crashes on opening. Wont open..Version: 5.0.1

Decent only because there are no other optionsI paid for a subscription for the year because there are not many options for Cantonese language learning apps. I’m giving it three stars because the app is satisfactory given that there really isn’t a better option out there. However, the lessons are simplistic and repetitive. It is good for learning to recognize Cantonese words and training listening comprehension, but it is not good for learning how to speak or write your own sentences. The review mechanism also leaves a lot to be desired. I would like to be able to quiz myself on all past vocabulary but there is are no flash cards. Your options are to click through the vocab cards and cover the English with your thumb, or to do (what seems like) a randomly selected set of review exercises that are not comprehensive. The app is also littered with errors. I have submitted around 10 error reports in my first week of studying. Often the English answer is grammatically incorrect or the Cantonese audio is mismatched with the jyutping/characters. I already know some mandarin, so I can spot the errors pretty easily (and they do not inhibit my learning), but I’m don’t know if a complete beginner could do the same. In short, the app has potential but is very, very rough..Version: 3.6.4

Was really excited but increasingly glitchyI am learning a language that isn’t found on many platforms and was really excited to have an app to learn from. As I have moved on to higher levels, though, the lessons have gotten increasingly glitchy. There sometimes won’t be correct options available to answer a question. In some cases it means just getting a question wrong. In other cases it means I can’t complete the lesson at all. Also, when I first started there were grammar explanations available. In recent updates they have gone away. I am likely going to have to use a different method to continue learning..Version: 4.0.3

Won’t load/openWhen I launch the app it never loads. It stays on the LING loading page and never does anything else, I’ve waited 15 minutes in case it needed to copy stuff or something but it never worked and therefore I uninstalled it. Thanks anyway but I’m gonna pass..Version: 4.0.3

Great before the updateThis was a great app. However I had an issue and was told I was using the older version of the app and would need to move to the new version to fix. The new “updated version” isn’t good at all. I have only been using it for 2 days but, the current issues I’ve observed are; - previously a female monkey talking to a male monkey (perfect) - now a male monkey (talking for the female part) and a ball? Talking for the male part? - previously the multiple word type pronunciation was separated with hyphens for example tii-nii or raan-soom-roong-tao - Now sometimes it has hyphens sometimes in questions it just puts them all together making it quite difficult to read and understand for example it’s now tiinii and raansoomroongtao ? - previously there was a handy review button which would select 10 random questions from previous lessons and do a refresher quiz, which helped to review and keep your understanding fresh. - now the review is just a list of all the words and sentences you have learned? Are you supposed to just read them all again? Or am I doing something wrong on this? Am I missing something. Please resolve these issues? It was a great 5 star app before? I really don’t understand why you downgraded it? Makes absolutely no sense to me? Thanks Tom.Version: 5.0.6

Updates seem to have made it not functionLoved this app, bought lifetime package, then it upgrades and I lose all the conversational sections for listening practice and most other things are crashing, awaiting some kind of resolution from the developers. I’m English and learning Thai, not sure if these new problems are across the whole platform. I will update review if this changes but currently not useable and if it continues I will be seeking a refund.Version: 4.0.3

Terribly disappointingThe app overall is well-done. However, if you want to learn a less popular language, they want you to pay after only two lessons. This is incredibly discouraging as there is no alternative option. Even other apps allow a limited daily progression if you don’t want to pay. I was almost tempted to pay to progress my learning, but I have low trust after reading other reviews about the app not working properly after some time. How can you expect someone to be encouraged to learn when they are blocked from progressing if they don’t pay? How can you expect people to pay when there are still bugs in your app? Again, terribly disappointing business model for aspiring language learners. Improve the model and Ling could easily overtake other language apps due to it’s vast library of languages. Until this has changed, I will not be downloading Ling again..Version: 4.0.0

HavingTo keep clicking off the subscription is beyond annoying.Version: 6.0.0

Mistake in Albanian SectionIn the grammar section, Alphabet III: Vowels for Albanian, the vowels do not correspond with the correct pronunciation, and are contradicted by the other notes in the grammar section. Here’s a correction: Ë | u’ as in burn/earn | ëndërr I | ee’ as in feet | iriq O | o’ as in obey | ora U | oo’ as in moon | ulliri.Version: 6.0.5

Ling is good but….. can use some improvementsI have bought Ling today and am loving it! It teaches you real conversations and for tourists is great! But……. Not everything is great. 1. It doesn’t teach you things so you will remember them. Like it will say the word and then it will ask a question about the word. After that you have ‘learned the word’ but I don’t remember the word because it hasn’t been practised further than 2 questions. 2. If you get a question wrong it won’t help you practise your mistake. You simply keep going and leave a big hole in you learning. Ling is awesome for people who already know some Greek, for beginners? Try another app. If Ling improves these minor issues it will be awesome! From, Hopeful.Version: 3.6.7

App does not understand 佢 is a gender neutral pronounI think it’s generally a fairly good Cantonese teaching app but it fails to understand that Cantonese has gender neutral pronouns which I reckon is quite a fundamental fault..Version: 3.2.1

Learning MalayalamMost of the audio doesn’t work. I’m English as first language. Malayalam is difficult and cannot be learnt by reading alone. You can’t learn if you can’t play audio to hear pronunciation. Improve and I’d give it a better review.Version: 3.6.9

Too difficultDoesn’t teach you simple phrases such as greetings like duolingo from the beginning.Version: 5.0.1

Surprisingly poor qualityI’ve been trying different apps (and resources, plus friends) to learn Tagalog and ran through the free portion of Ling to give it a try. I won’t be subscribing. Audio quality varies considerably, with some phrases sounding like they were recorded with a very cheap microphone. A test question dinged me for using “he” instead of “she” for translating a gender-neutral pronoun (there was no indication which was appropriate). There are a number of typos in the text lessons that pop up (e.g. about pronouns) One test question asked what I heard, and none of the answers matched. The sentence “ Nakapagsasalita siya ng wikang Hapones” translated to “he speaks Japanese” when it’s more accurately “he can speak the Japanese language”. A little wordy for a beginner course. “ Nagsasalita siya ng Hapones” would have been a better choice. When I, still very much a beginner, am able to spot these problems so early in the app, it’s not a good sign..Version: 4.0.8

Learn Lao$11+ a month for this app seems really over priced for what I see so far ……… as soon as you make it past the very short intro lesson on how to say hello, it forces you to register an account. Ok did that, then it immediately went to the membership screen where it wants to charge you for a year subscription. If you don’t agree to the $55 one time payment then it ups the price to $11 a month ($132 a year) well over twice the price. I didn’t buy a subscription, it just felt too much like a scam. Right now the only thing I see this app having going for it is that it has languages not offered by its competitors. Hopefully this changes in the future. A little competition would likely help this app offer better value to its customers..Version: 5.0.0

Misspellings on the SECOND lesson!!I wanted to try learning Farsi/Persian. I don’t know a single word in Farsi and I was already catching spelling mistakes in the second lesson! They had the word “twenty-five” spelled “bist w penj” on on card and right below it had it spelled “bisto panj”. After some brief research outside the app, the second spelling is correct. Why would I continue to use this app when I already can’t trust that it’s giving me correct information? Update: I’m not increasing the rating. I took the time to research what app to download, download the app, and go through the whole first lesson only to find out that the information I was learning isn’t worth anything because I can’t trust if it’s correct or not. I don’t trust that the other languages and lessons are correct either. Find a different language app that you can actually trust..Version: 3.4.6

It WAS a good app…until they removed the review exercisesI was pretty happy with this app and bought a subscription almost immediately. It moved you along fast, taught languages not covered in other popular apps, and worked well overall. Then a few months ago, a major update completely changed the overall app UI — it looks like someone accidentally reverted it to a beta version from 3 years ago. Ugliness aside (though the new UI makes it significantly harder to absorb information), the biggest issue is in functionality: the review exercises are gone. The only “review” options are to either complete a lesson again from start to finish, or look at a static list of the words you’ve learned in each lesson. The previous review feature — which randomly selected exercises from all completed lessons and worked wonderfully — was fully removed. I’ve waiting several updates since then for it to be added back or replaced, but it hasn’t. A language app with no opportunity to review or practice what you’ve learned is essentially useless. I truly wish I hadn’t bought a subscription..Version: 6.1.4

Its good but..I stumbled upon a language called Georgian and it's a pretty hard language to me. This app was the only one I can find to learn Georgian and I'm pretty happy with it. But, one problem. Actually, two problems. The app is easy to use, although the alphabet area is not one whole lesson. It is just spread apart where I learn 4 letters at a time. Or 3, not sure. You also need to be completely perfect to be able to pass one part of the alphabet section. Me, as an digital artist, who is good at tracing, but when i completed it correctly, it stated i was wrong (not literally, it didn't turn the letter green indicating I did it right) which is crazy because I left no stray marks. Second problem. The lessons are easy except for the end where we need to memorize literal sounds of the words. There are 5-10 words. I can't do that yet. That is extremely hard to do because I don't know what the words mean at all yet. Plus, the app also doesn't teach us a word one by one. I believe the conversation part at the end of the lesson should be removed and added to the later lessons. Please fix this and thank you for reading if you do..Version: 6.0.7

Notification screenOverall great app but keep getting stuck on the what days would you like to be reminded to learn screen and only way to get off it is to deleted app and re-download and hope it won’t go to the screen and pressing cancel on the screen doesn’t work and won’t even let me choose.Version: 6.0.3

The app won’t workI was really excited to use it but it’s stuck on learn more about king page, i’ve tried reloading many times but it won’t let me move from there..Version: 5.0.3

MistakesBought yearly subscription for Slovenian and in the first intro lesson there are mistakes. Sent detailed info to Ling every time I saw a mistake and none of the errors have been corrected..Version: 6.1.2

Thought I finally found a good app for urduNever mind I did 2 sessions and now it’s asking me for money….Version: 5.0.10

Incorrect translationsPaid a subscription to learn Albanian, however some of the translations are incorrect.Version: 6.0.3

Good customer service, faulty productI was really excited to see that Ling offered Slovenian, which is a small language not available in most other formats. I had learned a very small amount already, and I quickly realized that while the written words for boy and girl, for instance, were the words I knew, the spoken words did not match. Turns out there are a couple of different ways to say girl and boy in Slovenian, and one way was used for the written word and the other for the spoken words. Slovenian pronunciation is already difficult for an English speaker; someone trying to match the spoken and written words would have no chance. I used the error-marking capability to mark these and other errors, but there were so many I finally gave up. To their credit, when I reached out to Ling, they were really nice and very responsive, which is why they have a couple of stars. But to release a language, not as a beta but as something you pay for, when it has so clearly not been vetted at a very basic level, is really irresponsible. A gain, these were very basic errors on simple words that started at the beginning of the lessons. I just logged on to see if they’d been corrected, but they haven’t. If you want me to help test a language, that’s one thing. But I decided to pay for a year, so ai think that was $60 I can’t get back. I’ve given them opportunities to fix the errors; time to delete the app and cut my losses..Version: 6.1.5

Landscape?Seriously its 2022, I’ve seen complaints regarding the lack of landscape mode from Oct 2021, surely it doesn’t take so long? certainly will not be subscribing without it. That being said, it is very close to the methods use by Duolingo to teach, but this had the language I wanted to learn..Version: 3.5.8

App is good for learning, when you can advanceSo, I’ve been using this app for around 2 months. I finished one course, and I go to the exam. What happens after I answer the first question is the text changes after I answer—though not changing the output of the question—and closes the app. It does this with no exceptions, and I cannot continue the course. I am unsure as to why this happens, only that I am unsure how to circumvent it. Developers, I know your job of keeping this running smoothly is hard, but this could be a major issue if it is not just my device. 3.5 star rating from me overall..Version: 4.0.4

Technical issues put me offI had heard about this app from a friend, purchased the yearly subscription option (which comes with a 7 day “free trial”). Thankfully because of the free trial no money was taken, which is good because the trial didn’t actually work, I wasn’t able to test the Pro features. This whole issue made me unsure about whether to follow through with my purchase - if I purchase a subscription will I actually have access to what I’ve bought?. I’m my sure my situation is rare but it was a bit off putting for me unfortunately Edit : in response to developer response - I did email support with screenshots but didn’t actually receive a reply, hence the 3 stars.Version: 4.0.13

Great design, but very limited contentThe app is really cute and fun! The exercises are also interesting and test your understanding of words in a unique way. But the content is very limited (I would guess not more than 500-1000 words per language in total), and the categories that say Intermediate and Advanced in some languages really should just say "Upper Beginner". The health and legal sections in the "Advanced" group in particular have a LOT of potential for genuinely advanced learners - if only there was more than approx. 50 words!! Great concept, very enjoyable, but deleted after 2 hours due to lack of content..Version: 3.6.4

The best place for English-speakers to learn Bangla...but the voice recognition is either ruthlessly unforgiving, or just broken. Also, WAY too few writing exercises..Version: 6.2.11

App does not login via Facebook and lessons freeze. There is no contact for supportPlease fix this.Version: 4.0.13

Please allow landscape mode! Please allow landscape mode.Version: 3.5.0

Mistakes in lessonI downloaded this for my son to learn Tagalog. There were mistakes in the first lesson..Version: 6.2.9

Not very goodI expected more. The only reason I chose this app was because Farsi wasn’t available on Duolingo but this was a letdown. Not nearly as entertaining, can’t tap on words to see their meaning, no quests friends leaderboards etc and they just throw a million words at you at once. 🙄.Version: 6.2.10

App doesn’t openIs annoying that the app doesn’t open. Just shows the initial logo. Have to always restart the mobile phone..Version: 4.0.0

A decent app for learning a new languageI’ve been using it for a few days now and learning Canto. I like how easy it is to get into a lesson and the interface is simple to navigate around. However I think some things can be improved. When you see the sentence in Chinese along with the English translation it would be helpful to show the direct translation of each character. Also the audio of the native speaker should speak the sentence in a normal pace rather than slowly since there’s already a slow option available. That way I could understand better how fast it’s actually spoken. Lastly, the speaking lessons need improvement on interpreting my recording. I feel like I am close enough to saying the sentence but no matter how much I repeat it thinks I’m saying the same different word. I’m not fluent of course but there’s a YT vid of a fluent speaker who tried this lesson and the app thinks she got it wrong. I will continue to use the app but I plan to use other resources to continue learning..Version: 5.0.2

Needs to use all of the brainThere is not enough repetition. The conversations are too long to remember and bring in new words and phrases, which do not directly build on what has been practised in the earlier part of the lesson, so one needs to do the lessons several times to get the full benefits. There should also be a facility to go back to revise words or phrases..Version: 4.0.12

Tamil 🇮🇳🇱🇰This is kinda trashy and doesn’t even give the right translations so I take it terrible but does teach a tiny bit about Tamil great for very new beginners.Version: 6.2.5

It’s quite good but I didn’t get a full year’s accessI quite enjoyed this app and it does have a good range of languages. However, I paid for a yearly subscription which doesn’t expire until 11 January 2024. But I no longer have access to the subscription unless I pay more money, which means I didn’t get a full year’s access..Version: 6.2.11

Good, could be improved. The range of languages is excellent. I’ve been a long time user of a few other language apps but Ling was the only one I could find that offered Serbian. There are however some things that could be better. Firstly, whatever clock is behind the streak counter is drunk. It seems that if I complete lessons on consecutive days but more than twenty-four hours apart they don’t translate to a streak of two, for instance. Often the different graphs and metrics that show streak will give different readings. Secondly, the conversation at the end of each lesson is not able to be slowed down. Thirdly, when filling in a response from a pool of words, the words re-order after you choose each word resulting in unnecessary mistakes that have nothing to do with your comprehension. Ling is the only app that I’ve used that exhibits this weird behaviour..Version: 6.3.0

Good luck learning a language hereI rarely write reviews but I kinda need to address the elephant in the room. I downloaded this app for Bulgarian. First of the app is very laggy and the courses are easily forgettable . The courses have no rhyme or rhythm to the lessons and you will most likely won’t use the words for a while. And I can’t learn the alphabet separately or at all from what I can see. I can’t even access the whole course for free. That’s very frustrating for someone who is learning a language on a budget. This is for Bulgarian at least. Like I first learn man and woman and stuff like that, then random numbers. Maybe up to then would be useful but stuff like 4 and 25? I do not recommend this app for language learning. I suggest books, movies, games and online classes and courses or even Duolingo if they have your language. I have nothing left to say..Version: 4.0.3

It was stuck on a pageI teuer over and over again restalling the app, it was stuck on the last page for making an account..Version: 5.0.3

Has potential but not ready for SloveneThis app has a lot of potential, the first reasonably priced app I’ve come across that has Slovene. Sadly many mistakes in the language, with spoken words not matching what is written in many places. A shame..Version: 6.0.3

Please add alphabet for punjabiHi! I am new to learning new languages and something I think would really help is knowing what sound different characters make so I could sound words out like I do in English. Since Punjabi has all different characters I don’t know the sounds so it’s really hard to form my own sentences of write something because I don’t know the basic alphabet. Please add a feature like this for people in the future trying to learn a different language with a different alphabet! Otherwise I like the app!.Version: 6.0.0

Very bad- choose another appThis app does a very bad job at teaching the language and the lesson content is not helpful. Also after a few lessons, you cannot continue without premium- this app is a waste of time!.Version: 6.1.4

On both iPhone and iPad…. It gets to a yellow screen and just sits there doing nothing. I made an account on web, but on login to app, nothing happens. Have rebooted, and reinstalled..Version: 3.4.6

Tricks you to payI tried the app but it tricks you to an annual subscription. I managed to cancel it in the end after searching the internet..Version: 6.0.6

Not for new learners but errors in the Thai courseI tried this app because theres really no other alternatives to learning Thai and because this app has basically everything. But seeing how the app doesn't even start to teach about the letters and consonants worries me for new Thai learners. Because it would be such a big jump for other people just to start reading words in the first coarse when they don't know what sounds the letters and consonants should make. I only got past it because my mother had taught me all of the consonant and vowel sounds. However one thing i found right away were the spacings, because they had spaces after every word. But in Thai, there are only supposed spaces between new sentences. Another thing is i felt like is it is just too fast paced I don't think it spends time to get the concept in your head, it was like a short lesson about man and women and Thai but then straight to age right after that lesson. It would help to have more on one concept and to have things like writing the word yourself or typing what you hear. Another thing about the fast pacing is that it didn't even teach me all of the words individually and i just spent it all guessing what words were in the sentence. Im probably only going to do whats there for free because i just think the payed version is way to much for whats being offered..Version: 6.1.0

Decent ish..I like using this app, alright? I like how it’s structured- however as someone who paid for the premium membership, it’s annoying to have to deal with frequent glitches. There’s this one that I can’t stop or know how to fix- my audio speed will shoot up to level three (which doesn’t even exist in the menu!) and be read so fast I can comprehend what sounds the foreign words make! How’s that any good for learning? I’ve done everything- uninstall reinstall, login/out, power up power down, even tried it out on a different device! For some reason the audio will not do what I tell it too, and if it continues this glitch I’ll just have to end my subscription, because it’s not worth it to have lots of syllables like “ikinagagalak Kong makilala ka” read to you faster than a normal person would say it..Version: 4.0.4

App is brokenSpeed is really fast in Thai. Tried to change in settings but no help. I cannot learn Thai like this. It used to work. It used to be normal speed. What happened ?.Version: 4.0.4

BuggyEncountered a bug on Lithuanian lesson 4 that means I can’t proceed. The answer is made up of four words, but only three are shown for selection, so it’s impossible to answer the question..Version: 4.0.3

LessonsI love ling but i installed this app to learn tagalog but almost ALL the lessons costs something which is something i can not afford this app should make more free options instead of making only two lessons free.Version: 4.0.3

ScamThe app told me I had a 7 week free trial, after this the meme ship was $109 a year. I subscribed and cancelled my membership the day off and got charged $109. Currently disputing this charge with apple. Do not trust the “free trial”.Version: 6.0.3

Value for money is not greatI’ll start with the pros: the app has a nice interface and is easy to use, and a good selection of languages. The sample conversations are helpful and provide a variety of voices. Cons: the lessons are very basic and easy to complete without any understanding of the language. They don’t seem to be organized in a way that makes sense or that builds off of precious knowledge. For instance, you will learn numbers in a weird order. It’s a similar principle to duo lingo in terms of reinforcement through endless repetition, but duo lingo does it better and for free, while this app is a bit expensive..Version: 6.0.3

Cant get subscriptionReturns an error code, check your internet connection even when Im connected to the internet and writing this comment.Version: 5.0.1

Many languages, but could be betterI started with the Slovak course and the first lesson seemed practical, learning man, woman, girl, and boy, but then the next lesson goes straight to numbers like 12 and 25, which as a beginner, I most likely won’t use, it would make more sense to go to greetings and then goodbye phrases, but no, it goes to number that aren’t even 1-10. Another thing I don’t like is that only the first two units are free then you have to pay, and there is no way around it, and the service itself isn’t that good. With that also find a way to make the lessons more memorable, I really don’t remember much from my first lesson, and make the lessons practical, like a real language course, where you start with the basics, and then work up to the harder stuff. When reading other reviews, I found it common enough that people weren’t really enjoying their experience with the lesser spoken languages, so I recommend to Ling that they find a way to make those courses more practical and enjoyable. There are probably things I missed in this review, but please take into consideration what I have said..Version: 4.0.3

Bug reportIn the conversations, words are sometimes cut off a the end of sentences. Please fix this..Version: 4.0.12
