FT Edit by the Financial Times for Negative User Reviews

Text format + previously read articlesThe app is great and the idea is sound but it’s very basic in the current stage, there is no way to customise text size, colour or font. The current text size might be too small for people with eyesight problems and the lack of dark mode makes it really hard on the eyes to use this app when ambient light is low, you are forced to choose between being blinded by the screen or squinting to read the small text. It will also be great to get access to previously “read” articles, sometimes you want to go back to an article you read a few editions ago as reference - it could be great to do this without having to remember the edition. Hope that helps !.Version: 1.0.30

Stop trying to read my clipboardApp is prompting to paste from clipboard every time I open the app without. Can’t think of a good reason for it to do this, it’s creepy. Apart from that the app is ok. I’m not interested in a full price subscription so FT Edit is an interesting idea..Version: 1.0.23

Lazy, uninteresting app with bewildering omissionsThe whole premise of - unrelated articles - released in daily drops -grouped together by nothing, save a sense that these are “good” or will “cut through the noise” Is both lazy, played out, and has been done better elsewhere (Quartz, Economist Espresso, and many other daily briefing products) The UX is poor, you can’t swipe through articles or change font size, and the whole app feels slow and ponderous for an experience so slight. It leaves me wondering, why does this need to exist? It certainly doesn’t give a good first impression of the FT. The overwhelming sensation is of a lazy cash grab, attempting to reach those who can’t/don’t want to pay the full price of the FT. But that’s a business goal, not a consumer need, and very few of those are being served by this app..Version: 1.0.2

Offline versionI’m using the trial version, so far so good. I would however suggest an offline version where readers can download saved articles on the app so they can read it offline (in my case on the tube) where there’s no signal. Will this be implemented for future releases?.Version: 1.0.10

Saved articles lostI just updated the app today to v1.0.14 and all my saved articles were deleted 😓.Version: 1.0.14

It’s Opinion PiecesThey say news, but it’s largely opinion pieces of relevant world matters. There’s not many factually pieces which is what I was looking for. So if you’re looking for factual news that’s quick then I much prefer Morning Brew 🤷🏻‍♀️.Version: 1.0.22

Great content but keeps having tech hiccupsI love this up for what it intends to do but I am frustrated with how it keeps losing my saved articles for no reason. I cannot go back and resave them because you can only go back five days. The support is increasingly unhelpful: go complain to Apple they told me. I am keeping the subscription hoping the tech will improve..Version: 1.0.27

App keeps asking for paste permissionEverytime i use the back button I get a request to paste from my macbook pro.Version: 1.0.25

You need a tablet editionCome on now: a big important global media company like the FT and a small screen is all you can offer?.Version: 1.0.17

Daily Dose of Sermons? So the tagline for FT Edit is your Daily dose of expert news. Unfortunately, I think FT is confusing expert news with their opinion on the news or just plain soapboxing about their causes. For example, the 29 Mar edition included saving the world by going vegan. A previous day had a non-sequitur about conservatives ‘losing the war’ because to paraphrase, they won’t endorse left-wing social causes. I like the concept of FT Edit but the output doesn’t match and even with the lower trial price, it’s not worth it IMO..Version: 1.0.35

Login bugs persistI don’t know how many times I get told I’ve exceeded the free limit in spite of being logged in with a full FT account..Version: 1.0.35

No new articles on the weekendAnd there are not always 8 new articles each weekday either. For £5 a month in exchange for a small and supposedly curated offering, it’s frustrating to see the FT coming short and acting cheap once again..Version: 1.0.9

Good app but cannot select topicsMost of the topics on the FT are irrelevant, and the same with the FT edit. Unfortunately, it isn’t possible to choose which topics appeal you, so most of the writings aren’t what you want to read..Version: 1.0.35

Ok but…… the articles aren’t changed particularly often - sometimes the same seven are up for a week which suggests that nobody at the FT is actually very interested in this app.Version: 1.0.16

Should be free for paper subscribersThe articles in this application are digital copies from mostly recent articles published on FT Weekend, therefore subscription to this application should be free for paper subscribers. Paper subscribers already spend hundreds on their yearly subscription, having to pay extra for the same articles delivered differently seems unjust. But what really killed it is the recent inclusion of emoji on its push notifications, that is just annoying and makes it feel like low quality reporting, even if it is not, so I cancelled..Version: 1.0.30

Free read limit reachedThis is the message with which I am greeted each time I select an article as part of my supposedly free 30-day trial, below which is the only option: subscribe now at 99p per month for the first 6 months..Version: 1.0.8

SSO doesn’t workLike the general concept, but unlike the main ft app, there is no ability to sign in with my organisations SSO..Version: 1.0.30

Would be 5* if was optimised for ipadThis is kind of perfect for the ipad and yet here it is is still clumsily being stretched as an iphone app like it’s 2010 and the iPad has just been released….Version: 1.0.4

No iPad versionWhy on earth is there no iPad version? Reading articles in an iPhone sized window on an iPad is ridiculous! I won’t be renewing the subscription..Version: 1.0.14

Landscape view onlyWas planning to subscribe but the iPad app is only available in landscape view. I HATE LANDSCAPE VIEW..Version: 1.0.30

Not for existing subscribersIt’s a good idea, and I was hoping it would act as a highly curated view on the FT main page (and if I wanted to read any more then I could pick it up and explore further in the main app). It doesn’t. Separate subscription, no way (as far as I can see) to link an existing subscription, which means saved stories in one app does not appear in the other. Hey-ho, I’ll just stick to the main app then.Version: 1.0.18

New version draining powerApp was great but reason version is seeming to run in the background and drain the battery rapidly. New iPhone 13, 3.5 hours of “background activity” by the app today..Version: 1.0.9
