FUJIFILM XApp for Negative User Reviews

3 Stars. This app is a major upgrade over their other app. However, after updating the firmware it somehow broke the image Transfer feature. It will connect just fine and everything work is flawlessly when it’s my iPad, but once I try doing it on my iPhone that’s where it struggles. It fails to connect every time. Which is a shame because most of the time. I always want to transfer it to my phone anyways so I can instantly share it to friends or upload the JPEGs straight to Instagram. Please Fujifilm, fix it so I can Connect my XT-4 to my iPhone over Wi-Fi then I can swap the star rating to a 5 star..Version: 1.0.1

Can’t change location serviceNot a single person wants this app to use your location always. If you set it to only when using, it forces you to change it back to always. There’s no reason this app should always need your location..Version: 1.0.3

Complete overreach privacy-wiseSorry, I'm just not willing to be location tracked while not using the app. Other apps don't require this... why must Fuji? Don't assume that I don't know that this can be done.... laziness on the part of the dev team is all. Fuji = great cameras, terrible software. the software experience marrs an otherwise great brand..Version: 1.0.1

Need for location data not addressed in years of reviews?I was excited for this app but I literally can’t even test it out without agreeing to the location data requirement. The support team has been responding to other comments and feature requests but not acknowledged this obviously important to many concern. This sucks man..Version: 1.0.3

Works but permissions unacceptableWell at least this one actually works with my X100V. Big issue is that the app refuses to run without always on location services. This is totally unnecessary - much like the constant blue tooth connection with the phone. I need an app to download photos once every so often, and to be a remote shutter . That’s it..Version: 1.0.2

Why the constant GPS?It’s much better than the previous Fuji app… but unfortunately they force you to leave the Location Services set to Always otherwise you can’t actually use the app. Not entirely sure why this is a mandatory requirement, but until they remove this requirement, I can’t use the app..Version: 1.0.2

Good in partsGenerally an improvement on the previous version. However the function I was most looking forward to, namely geolocation, is of very limited use with an iPhone, as when the camera goes into standby to or is turned off and back on again the bluetooth connection is not established unless the app is opened again. Hardly y seamless!.Version: 1.1.0

Stability please and accurate TCI am a professional photojournalist. I want location tagging on everything I shoot. Connectivity with the app drops after 20-ish minutes and the dreaded red geotag icon appears in the viewfinder indicating lost connection with my iPhone. I want connectivity with the phone to be there without having to set on every shoot at every location. Additionally, I shoot documentaries with my XH2S and XH2. Having frame accurate timecode matching across both cameras is a broadcast or production camera expectation. Please develop the capability to set these cameras to the phone time of day accurately. Can’t be that hard or labor intensive. I think the XT4 has it..Version: 1.2.1

Another Fujifilm app disasterRequires “always” access to location and notifications enabled to work at all. This is an instant uninstall. How can this be so wrong..Version: 1.0.3

Still completely awfulUnlike the last app, I can get this one to work. Sometimes. Very occasionally. However, it is slow, very unreliable, immensely frustrating and simply not worth using. You can spend 10 minutes selecting images to transfer then instead of transferring them it sits in an infinite waiting screen. Repeat the process and you have 1 in 10 chance of it working next time. It’s just not worth the time spent trying. This is all presuming you have managed to get the app to recognise your camera in the first place, which can be an equally frustrating and unsuccessful venture. Awful app. Awful support. Avoid to save your valuable time..Version: 1.2.1

Location access shouldn't be a requirementLocation access all the time is a huge blunder, otherwise this is a really great app and a huge improvement over the previous version..Version: 1.0.0

Unacceptable location sharing settingsThe app is a major improvement over the old one, and I hope to be able to use it some day. However, the app currently won’t function at all unless you have location sharing set to “always” and precise location on. This is totally unnecessary, invasive and likely a battery drain. If this is just for geotagging, please make that setting optional - I just want to be able to transfer my private photos in peace. Please listen to the chorus of users telling you this is unacceptable. Until you do, this much improved app is completely unusable..Version: 1.0.3

Requires full access to locationWon’t use because app requirement of location data when not using app and because of notification requirement..Version: 1.0.0

Privacy!New app seems pretty good for functionality - lack of raw and a few other issues - otherwise I’d say a 3 star review. Ok but nothing amazing. However, always requiring location to use the app?! Not ok!.Version: 1.1.0

Unable to connect on X-T4These kind of apps rarely work properly, and despite my hopes, this one is no exception..Version: 1.0.1

Exponentially better than original appThe app just works! That’s the feature I use the most so it is what I can speak for with confidence. However, it is very annoying that the app needs to have location set to always on, otherwise it won’t work at all. Unsure why this is the case but until it is changed my rating will remain as is..Version: 1.0.3

SpywareThis app should not REQUIRE location info at all times. I will not use the app and it will remain 1 star until that changes. Would be 0 stars if I could..Version: 1.0.0

Works great with X-H2… mostlyUpdate: as others have noted, if the app hibernates or the camera goes to sleep, the app tags photos with the current location rather than the correct one, i.e., where you were three hours ago. The Nikon app does not do this and I wish that Fujifilm would address this bug. On the camera side, a longer delay such as an hour before the camera goes to sleep would be extremely useful and save my poor power switch. Does what it’s supposed to and even reconnects in the background fairly reliably after I’ve turned the camera off and on again. I just came back from a week of intense shooting in areas of poor cellular connectivity and the app worked almost perfectly save for a few hiccups at launch where the app stumbled and restarted itself. The so-called privacy concerns are unfounded and the app truly does need full-time location access to geotag photos, though an opt out could be nice for those who don’t wish to geotag. The app doesn’t use location unless it’s open, so close it if you’re worried..Version: 1.2.1

Just as bad as the last appI don’t know why Fuji wasted their time rebuilding a new app that’s just as bad and buggy as the last one. Furthermore, you MUST allow location permission to ALWAYS be on. Even if you don’t want the location sync feature. You also MUST allow notifications or the app won’t work. What an absolute mess….Version: 1.0.2

Good App, shady permissions accessGreat app, all seems to work well so far. Though it wont work unless you provide the app to ALWAYS be using your precise location. Without that setting turned on on your phone it won't even launch. Battery drainer for the phone and invasive for us users..Version: 1.0.1

Original Fujifilm app had its quirks but at least it workedAs soon as I try to transfer an image this app disconnects, it worked when first released but all downhill from there. Another garbage app release by a camera manufacturer..Version: 1.0.3

Location sharing is forcedThis app is dead on arrival since it forced you to always share your precise location. This is the very first app I’ve used with this restriction. Apple shouldn’t have approved it..Version: 1.0.3

No raw and no 4K transfer, what is the utility of this app?In the 5G era is not possible to not be able to download raw files and video 4K, I know it can be slow for some but at least give this available. The only thing I will use this app is to upgrade the firmware… But really someone fro Fujifilm should explain what is the benefit of using this app; you have to shoot only jpg? And take only FHD video? Then why you don’t develop X Raw Studio app for iOS that integrates with this app? At least I can decide which file to develop in JPG to share..Version: 1.0.0

Location and Notification Requirements Sully a Solid AppHonestly this app is a good app - unlike the previous app, Fujifilm Cam Remote, it actually works! It’s easy enough to pair your camera, transfer JPEGs (unfortunately no Raw or Tiff support), use the app as a remote control or with live view. This should be a 4-5 star review, with that 5th star maybe hinging on Raw transfer. But the glaring issues (for me) are the Location and Notification requirements. Please let me use the app without sharing my location info! I get that in order for GPS tagging to work properly the app needs constant access to your location, but I don’t want to use GPS tagging. Let me use the app with Location settings off! Same thing with Notifications! You can’t use the app unless you have notifications turned on, which I just don’t want, no matter how useful they are. It’s just odd that you can’t even use the app AT ALL with these intrusive settings turned off. I only want to use the image transfer and remote control functions, let me use the app the way I want. I’ll update my review as soon as they change this policy..Version: 1.0.0

Doesn’t workDespite my X-T3 having the latest required firmware it will not pair. And having the location settings always on as a requirement is a bit of deal breaker..Version: 1.0.1

Can’t connect Wi-FiTry as I might my iPhone will not connect to my x100v wifi. I click “join” and then it sits there for a minute and then fails to connect. Bluetooth is connecting fine, but just can’t get it working. I was so looking forward to a better app than the useless previous one, but not sure if it is the app or my new iPhone 14 that is the issue..Version: 1.0.2

Constant location sharingI do not like that location sharing must be enabled even when not using the app. Installed it and saw this while setting up and immediately the app.Version: 1.0.3

New cameras not supported?!?I understand it X-T2 is not supported. But X-T100 and X-T200 aren’t supported??? You are still selling that camera in your store!.Version: 1.0.3

Why does my location have to be set to “always on?”I like the app! It works better than the old one which was so horrendous that that alone should enable me to give the new one five starts. HOWEVER- you have to have your location set to always on. This is not acceptable for me. There’s no opt out option or any way around it. If you want to transfer your images you’re out of luck unless you have that enabled. Not only does this kill the battery life on your phone, honestly I only enable this on apps I trust to protect my information and I don’t trust a random camera app. Sorry. Bad form, fujifilm. Hopefully this will be changed on the next update because it’s a garbage option..Version: 1.0.2

Always Requires Precise LocationThe app won't even launch without allowing always-on precise location tracking which is incredibly invasive, unnecessary, and drains battery life. It's a shame as it's generally better than Fuji's last attempt at an app. Booo its 2023 do better than enabling stalkers..Version: 1.0.3

Privacy issueA real pain to get working, but the worst part is it requires location to be on ALL the time. Dangerous if posting SOOC online. Uninstalling, which makes transferring photos more inconvenient. Puts me off Fujifilm entirely..Version: 1.0.3

Wi-Fi Function Doesn’t Work on iPhone 14Bluetooth functionality works well, app is also a design improvement from the older app. But the Wi-Fi based functions like remote shooting and most importantly image transfer, is completely broken on my iPhone 14. The phone seems to connect to the camera in the Wi-Fi settings but nothing happens after that..Version: 1.0.3

Needless data scraping and lack of supportFuji seemed to have learnt nothing from the shortcomings of their other Cam Remote app. This new app requires always-on location services, struggles maintaining connection, and doesn’t support many of Fuji’s own camera bodies (nothing prior to the X-T3). As always these days, the consumer seems to suffer while corporations rake in more profit than ever with minimal effort..Version: 1.0.0

Bluetooth connection works, WiFi does notThe app connects quickly with my X-T3 over Bluetooth, but when I try to initiate a WiFi connection it finds the camera’s network but cannot establish a stable connection. I can see that the phone briefly connects to the camera’s WiFi but then it drops. I cannot see the photos on the camera or use the phone to view what the camera is seeing. I am using an iPhone 14 Pro. I have also tried the app on my iPad Pro and it works there with no problems..Version: 1.0.1

I wanted to like this appThis new app looks nicer than the old one. Unfortunately I can’t say much else that is positive… -every time I connect my camera, it “synchronizes” the time setting on my camera to 25 hours into the future. Unhelpful, to say the least. -trying to use the location synchronization, you have to keep the app open on the screen for it to initiate the connection. Every five minutes, you have to reopen the app and reconnect, or the photos aren’t tagged with a location. Unhelpful, to say the least. -and can we talk about Privacy? This app is a bully! It will not function in any way without far more permissions than I care to give. I don’t want notifications from this app, but it will not connect to my camera without notification permissions. I don’t want it looking through my iOS camera roll, but it won’t function without access to “all photos,” even those not taken on my Fuji camera. I don’t want the app recording my location when I’m not using it, but if I don’t say “always allow” and “precise location” it won’t even connect to the camera. With this behavior, I’m surprised it can even be offered on the App Store! I think this is against their policies. I’ll be waiting for the third iteration of a Fuji app: one that respects my privacy, automatically connects to my camera without me having to open the app every few minutes, and one that doesn’t mess up the time settings on my camera every time I use it!.Version: 1.0.3

Poor softwareNo app should require mandatory location services at all times, period. Cannot establish a wifi connection between my fujifilm x-t4 and iphone 14 pro, no matter how many times I try pairing and unpairing. This app does not function properly. Please fix this..Version: 1.0.2

Doesn’t pull through all photosMuch better than previous apps, but a long way to go. If your memory card is segmented in any way, the app will only pull through one folder, leaving you with only a selection of photos available for transfer.Version: 1.0.2

My camera is not working at all X100VThe new app requires the system to be updated to 3.0, and after that my x100v won't open.Version: 1.0.1

Why is this so hard?I’m relatively new to Fuji and started with this app, so I don’t have the experience with the old awful one. This one worked just fine for months, but then suddenly it instructed me to “re-initialize” the app. It took me about 15 minutes to get it re-paired, and it now seems to be working again. I don’t understand why camera manufacturers have so much trouble with Bluetooth..Version: 1.2.2

Instantly deleted app due to location always onInstalled app but instantly deleted when going through settings and discovered that app will not work unless I have location always on. Will not install again until this function is removed..Version: 1.0.3

Still unable to transfer raw imagesNice facelift but inability to down load and raw format is useless. Give us at least that as an option.Version: 1.2.2

Working great so far!Pairing the X-E4 with my iPhone SE was a breeze. Transferring images is somewhat slow, but reliable. The remote control functionality works fine. My only gripe is that it won’t transfer RAW files, but that’s likely due to file sizes. A major improvement! Thank you, Fujifilm, for listening to customers!.Version: 1.2.1

Much better app but still room for improvementMy camera still regularly disconnects from my phone. The only way to reconnect is to grab your phone, unlock it and open the app (even though the app is still running on the phone). Either fix the disconnects or seamlessly allow the camera to reconnect to the app without any user intervention. Just try to actively use your camera and you then realise how irritating this is. Use-case: I want all my pictures to be GPS tagged..Version: 1.0.3

Requires always on location access and notifications onAs others have said, this app requires you have location access on always, as well as notifications always on. It’s ridiculous. I don’t need this for the usage I require from the app, so don’t force it on me. Fix your app..Version: 1.0.3

LocationWhy do we need to use location all the time it should be optional? So until this changes I will not be using it..Version: 1.0.2

Location Always On? Really?Downloaded app, found it didn’t work if I didn’t allow ‘always on’ location setting. Deleted immediately. Invasion of privacy and hellish battery drain. Why do Fuji make such terrible apps?.Version: 1.0.2

Demands location info and notificationsThe app blocks use unless location information is set to “always” (will not allow the “only while using app” setting) and demands that notifications be enabled. Both of the features supported by this are not features that I will use. Sorry, Fuji, but you don’t need access to my location when I am not using your app and I don’t want to receive your marketing garbage in my notifications. The only way I would be using this app is in the foreground..Version: 1.0.0

Better, but unnecessary permissionsDefinitely an improvement over the old app, and I’m glad I can finally grab RAW files directly onto my phone. However I don’t understand why on earth the app needs to have always-on location permissions (which drain the battery). I understand that it’s needed for a geotagging feature to work, but to block the use of the entire app unless you give it full permission seems ridiculously overreaching..Version: 1.0.3

Privacy/location sharingImmediately uncomfortable to use it as the app requires specific data access sharing including always sharing location , even when not using the app. I don’t quite understand the need for this and find this excessive and intrusive..Version: 1.0.3

Bad privacy, doesn’t work consistentlyI was disappointed with the app. It refuses to work unless you grant location access all of the time and won’t even allow you to manually transfer photos without providing a location. When you do provide location services, it takes a lot of fiddling around with the app and camera to get them to communicate with each other. I turn my camera off between shots, which resets the connection between the two. It doesn’t seem as though the camera can reconnect when the app is just running in the background, so I had to open the app every time I turned on the camera if I wanted to restore the connection. I ended up deleting the app and just manually transferring photos with an SD card..Version: 1.0.1

Works Great | Permissions are AnnoyingOverall the app works much better than the old one. However, I’m always hesitant of apps that REQUIRE access to my location at all times and REQUIRE notifications. There is no reason this app needs to know my location in order for me to transfer photos to my phone. I don’t want geotagged photos. This would be a 5 star app without these requirements. For now I probably won’t use it..Version: 1.0.1

App fails to connect to wifiThe app on iPhone 14 still won’t connect to x100v even though the phone shows camera wifi is connected. All software updated..Version: 1.0.1

Please fix the date issueI did reinstall, reset camera settings, re-pair etc. But every time my phone connects to camera, it adds 18hours to the time, so all my photos are showing wrong date. I’m on Fuji xt5, iphone 14pro..Version: 1.0.3

Ridiculous permissionsLocation needs to be always on. It’s malware. No app should require that..Version: 1.0.3

Locations permissions ridiculousCan you please stop requiring permanent Location permissions? The app should not be allowed to require those permissions to even work. The whole idea is that they are user choices not app developer requirements..Version: 1.0.3

Unnecessary data requirementsMost apps will ask for permission and if denied, not all features can be used - Fair enough. Fujifilm has taken a frustrating approach of requiring you to accept everything (notifications, location at ALL times, All photos and Bluetooth). If you say no to even ONE it completely locks you out of the app. I think the most concerning is allowing access to all photos.. Apple’s API’s don’t require access to all photos to download photos (I use plenty of apps that don’t need that permission to download photos) so not sure why Fujifilm requires this? Location, I’m not too concerned but I can understand why others would be, and it’s a massive drain on battery to require it even when the app is closed!! Lastly, the app itself is just okay. I also shoot with Canon cameras and their app is way better. Not sure if it’s a limitation of my XT-30, but my Canon cameras transfer photos (including RAW) way faster through the Canon app than my XT-30 through this Fuji X app. Very disappointed in the developers who made this app. They are either very inconsiderate and ignorant of users privacy needs, or downright data mining..Version: 1.0.3

Bit of a let downIt works, which is a nice improvement Biggest let downs are: 1. Always requiring location data, which should be optional. Whichever manager let this side past should be fired - sorry. 2. Image transfer is still slow (but at least it’s stable) 3. Raw still not accessible 4. The new features aren’t of interest. I’m not going to look at the photo timeline, and I’d be surprised if many do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i think core features like auto transfer or recipe creation/sharing would have been more more impactful..Version: 1.0.3

Better but still poorThis new app (replacing the infamous Cam Remote) is definitely better for image transfers and general connectivity, but has a glaring flaw when it comes to location syncing with the camera, as it will not stay awake in the background on my iPhone 13 Pro running iOS 16.5 - for some reason Fuji haven’t enabled “background app refresh” so the app just goes to sleep and will not reconnect with the camera again if the initial Bluetooth connection is dropped. In practice this means having to re-open the app on your phone every time you turn the camera on and want location data, making it a laborious manual process that’s not worth the bother. Fix it Fuji!.Version: 1.0.1

Forces Location data to be always onI haven’t paired my camera with the app yet, but during setup, the app asks to enable location access. I set it to only use while using the app, and it didn’t let me proceed. I set it to always use location access, continued using the app, then changed the setting back to use location access while using the app. X App went straight to a screen asking me to fix the location access again. There’s no need for it to use my location while I’m not using the app. Please make location access optional!.Version: 1.0.0

Location - battery drain and privacy concernsI want to use the application as a camera remote control and to transfer files to my phone. These features do not require the applciation to know my location. The application will not function unless the location permission is set to "Always". I don't want the application to drain my phone battery by checking for location information at all, let alone in the background. The application includes coarse location information in the analytics sent to FujiFilm. I don't want FujiFilm to know where my phone has been..Version: 1.0.1

Not a fan of having to have location on even when not using the app.Not a fan of having to have location on even when not using the app..Version: 1.0.2

Absolutely rubbishWhy is it so hard to develop a camera app that just works and doesn’t drop connection all the time?.Version: 1.0.3

Hopeful…but…I was excited to see Fujifilm have created a new app and are working on making the image transfer process a better experience. But making precise location access mandatory 100% of the time to use the app at all for transferring photos (even if you do not care for geotagging) is just plain unacceptable. Fuji, please remove this requirement. I cannot use or recommend the app as it stands..Version: 1.0.2

Still sucks like the old appStill having connecting issue with my XT5. Asked me to put my camera closer towards my phone when they are side by side already. Very frustrating!.Version: 1.2.1

Location always on and notifications always allowed? Really? The app will not start unless it is allowed to access precise location all the time even when not being used. The app will not start unless it is allowed to send notifications. This just stupid, unnecessary and an invasion of privacy. Deleted until this stupidity is stopped. It’s effectively malware..Version: 1.0.2

Bricked my XT5Tried the app, after pairing my camera froze requiring a battery pull. After that the camera wouldn't work period and is now in for a warranty repair. Do not use.Version: 1.0.3

Another Fuji app that misses the markWas really excited about new app for live view and camera control It is the old app in disguise! Clunky to use. No landscape option which is such a waste of screen. Also you can’t use the camera screen at the same time. Near useless..Version: 1.0.1

Raw importPlease Fujifilm add Raw import feature to be a perfect app.Version: 1.0.3

Not Much Better Than The Old AppI upgraded the firmware and paired my X-T3 to my IPhone. I tried to transfer photos to my phone but the app says the sd cards are empty. I tried two different cards, both of which were formatted in camera. I even used the remote control on the app to take some of the pictures. Total waste. Update- I figured out the problem (I was shooting in RAW). However the amount of time it took Fuji to follow up on this doesn’t encourage me to improve my rating..Version: 1.2.0

Excessive location data requiredRequires always on location on precise and notifications on when it is not necessary. Not worth using unless remove these requirements..Version: 1.0.1

No to Always Location ServicesOnce again Fujifilm has completely failed the community with this app. Having to set "Always" for location services is unacceptable. Changing the setting to refresh every 480sec to save battery is also pathetic. Not having location info on photos of my child or clients children is far more important thant their need to have location services setting on. There is no reason Fujifilm has to force everyone to use location services, and notification for that matter, for the app to work..Version: 1.0.0

Planned obsolescenceI have a fujifilm camera made in 2020 that has Bluetooth, the X-A7. Yet the app tells me I cannot connect because it’s not supported even though it should meet the requirements of “a camera with Bluetooth.” This is wrong and needs to be fixed. it’s clearly the disgusting business practice of planned obsolescence. The company is trying to force old users to spend $1000 on a new camera as Fujifilm has completely dropped their budget line of cameras. Canon has a much better app which supports budget cameras from 2016..Version: 1.0.2

An imaging app w/o landscape mode? Why can’t I view the photos on my iPad in the orientation I took them in? Why do I need always on location?.Version: 1.0.3

NopeI won't even go into the permissions which are asinine but the overall app is basically useless. I set my camera up on a tripod right outside my window looking at a bird bath, my phone is basically 2 ft away and I cannot even connect. When I finally am able to connect standing next to the camera I'm not able to use the auto or manual focus options on my camera. I understand if some of the function of the camera is disabled while in remote control but Focus? I mean what can I do without focusing? Fuji should probably stick to hardware and hire software people to design their apps because this thing is bad. Worse than the first version if that's possible..Version: 1.0.3

Image Acquisition/ Photography not workingThe app cannot be used with my iPhone 13 and X-H2S camera. I paired the camera successfully but when I select Image acquisition to use my phone as a remote, I get an error message saying Bluetooth pairing not successful even though I paired successfully already. I have tried trouble shooting to resolve this but cannot get it working. Please fix this app..Version: 1.0.3

Always on GPS, really Fuji ?You cannot run this app without allowing permanent GPS access, which is ridiculous. After installing the app and connecting to my camera I closed down the app completely. Three days later my phone informed me the app was still using my phones GPS and suggested i switch off GPS or set its usage to only when the app is active. I chose the latter. A couple of days later, upon firing up the app it immediately stopped launching to complain that always on GPS isn’t enabled, refusing to continue until it was. There is absolutely no reason the app should require GPS to be continuously active, unless of course Fuji wants to track your every move. Until this app makes GPS optional, I won’t be using it..Version: 1.0.2

Location ALWAYS access required?Fujifilm does not need to know my location at all times in or out of the app to function. Please remove this necessity along with three notifications necessity. The app works with my X-Pro3 but this is wrong..Version: 1.0.1

Doesn’t run in backgroundUnfortunately the geolocation syncing is unreliable unless you have the app open and your phone unlocked the whole time, which is impractical. I know iOS apps can do background Bluetooth communication because the key app for my office works that way and stays running until the phone is rebooted. This makes the geolocation feature almost useless, which is a shame because it’s the only feature of the app that’s worth having to begin with besides photo transfer.Version: 1.2.1

App is unusable for those who prefer privacyThe app explicitly does not work unless the user “Always allows location”, “Allows access to all photos”, and “Enables notifications”. What kind of a user experience is that? There’s a case to be made for allowing access to photos, but what if I don’t care to use the location sync feature nor receive notifications? In both of those cases the app locks you on a screen until you give all permissions. As a software engineer I can think of no reason for these settings to be required, especially the location and notification settings. What if I simply want to use the app for firmware updates? Fujifilm should learn from other large corporations and make an app that serves users with differing privacy expectations — otherwise customers will continue to complain about their mobile applications..Version: 1.0.0

Geotagging needs WORK!Much improved over old app; pairing works fine now and firmware updates are easy and convenient. The big disappointment to me is the geotagging. As soon as either camera or iPhone goes to sleep the location is no longer updated. I use a third-party app on my iPhone that can track my location all day without depleting the battery. I then need to run a desktop version of the app to match location data with photos (using the time the image was taken). I was hoping I could do with this software with the new app; sadly, this is not the case. Seems easy enough to do compared to some other things the app gets right. Tagging images with the last location available (as opposed to the correct one) seems a very poor software design choice...Version: 1.0.3

Ridiculous permissions requiredRequiring always on precise location permission before you can even access the app is excessive and concerning. This will also significantly increase battery use. Complete and utter deal breaker. Disappointing..Version: 1.0.3

App drains battery while not usingFuji FORCES you to have the app ALWAYS tracking your location which not only assaults privacy but also drains your phone 24/7. Please everyone rate this app one star to expose them..Version: 1.0.2

TerribleI’ve been working with Fujifilm cameras for the last 12 years. Absolutely fantastic cameras, but Fujifilm app developers are completely useless. What on Earth are they doing there? First app was a complete disaster and this one is following the same path. Privacy concerns, phone’s battery constantly drained, Wi-Fi connection between iphone and camera (X-H2) doesn’t work, no support for raw files (to work on photoshop for iPad Pro). An absolute disaster, waste of time and patience. If it wasn’t for the lovely cameras, Fujifilm for me would be a no no. An advice: hire decent staff. App developers who know what they’re doing..Version: 1.0.3

Updated app still garbageApart from the location services problem, they haven’t fixed the one single issue plaguing the last version of the app WIRELESS TRANSFERS. This app, like the last, won’t connect to my camera to transfer photos. It just hangs and hangs..Version: 1.0.3

PrivacyFinally a new app for transferring photos from camera to phone, been a long time coming! BUT: why does the app need constant access to my location etc, instead of just whilst using the app. Unnecessarily invasive! Please change this then will be 5*.Version: 1.0.0

Looks great but requires location to be set to always & preciseI am deleting this app after writing this review because it will not allow any option other then always for location with precise location as well set. No app should ever require that to use it, no matter what features it may disable to not have on. Forcing location tracking feels beyond shady. Fuji, please update your app to not force location tracking, thank you.. You updated the app to not require location data but your developers are still playing privacy games!!! I just deleted the app for a second time!! You are still requiring full access to the photo library instead of allowing a folder to be chosen to use camera control features and as well requiring access to other Bluetooth devices on a network. Shame on you Fuji, I’ve spent a ridiculous amount of money on your products and your app is completely disrespectful to your customers. May be time to switch to the new Nikon Zf, maybe Nikon treats their customers with the respect they would want to be treated with. I purchased your product, it is not a free account on Facebook, you have absolutely no right to my data and how beyond disrespectful of you!.Version: 1.2.1

Garbage againX100v firmware updated to v3. Still. A garbage trying to hook up the camera to the phone app for file transfer. Still stuck in the connection menu, and failed to connect. Again and again..Version: 1.0.0

Instant Delete (Privacy Concerns)I was very excited to pair this app with my new X-S20 but the app permissions are absolutely ridiculous. Fujifilm want access to all of my photos and precise location ALL OF THE TIME? Get outta here! Instant delete. This privacy issue needs to be addressed as soon as possible..Version: 1.0.3

Ne marche pasIncapable de faire fonctionner le live view et le transfert de photos. J’ai réussi par contre à faire le pairage par BT. Je vais revenir à l’ancienne application… bien que mauvaise, elle fonctionne!.Version: 1.0.1

Privacy issuesOnly got as far as setting up the app. Not prepared to have fujilm know my location at all times whether or not I’m even using the camera! This is outrageous. Why should they be able to keep tabs on me like that? Poor..Version: 1.0.3

Remove always on for this app to be usefulAs others have noted, it’s ridiculous that location services need to always be on for this to work. If this app didn’t require that, I would happily give it a good rating..Version: 1.0.3

Cannot use without continuous location sharingThe app is otherwise better than the previous version, but it forces you to continuously share your phone’s location to use it. I understand this is necessary for geotagging photos, but I don’t care about geotagging. The app will not work unless you turn background location even if you don’t use geotagging—it doesn’t make any sense..Version: 1.0.3

Main use doesn't work on iphoneOnly use for this app is image transfer/remote control, neither of which function on my iphone. However it works flawlessly on my ipad. Beyond that there are also the privacy issues..Version: 1.0.3

Bluetooth connection failTwo updates since I wrote this review and it’s still the same 🙄 The ability to geotag photos is all but redundant as the app will not reconnect to the camera via Bluetooth unless it is open in the foreground and the phone is on. Until this is fixed and the app can reconnect in the background whilst the the phone is locked and in my pocket the app is all but useless. Such a disappointment after such a tedious wait for the app that was supposed to fix the issues that Camremote has..Version: 1.2.1

Great app design, but disregard user’s privacy1 star because it required user to not only set app location sharing to always, but also need to share precise location. While I understand the possible benefits might include to document where the photo is taken in metadata, I don’t see any other reasons why I need to set share location to always. To me, this app is currently unusable until this is fixed. Not to mention, this is a clear violation to the App Review Guideline. 5.1.1 Data Collection and Storage (iv) Access: Apps must respect the user’s permission settings and not attempt to manipulate, trick, or force people to consent to unnecessary data access. For example, apps that include the ability to post photos to a social network must not also require microphone access before allowing the user to upload photos. Where possible, provide alternative solutions for users who don’t grant consent. For example, if a user declines to share Location, offer the ability to manually enter an address..Version: 1.0.3

Location always on drains battery. Not possible to open app without itThis is a real issue with this app. You must allow location to constantly track you even when not using the app. Not only is this unnecessary and unethical, it also drains your phone’s battery. This should be optional for geotagging photos. I just want to transfer photos wirelessly to my phone..Version: 1.0.2

InacceptableInacceptable that it forces location sharing while not using the app.Version: 1.0.1

New cameras onlyIt’s beyond comprehension how after being stuck with the really awful Fujifilm Camera remote app for years, when a new (and hopefully improved) app is only supporting the newer cameras. I have 13 Fujifilm cameras and none are compatible with the new app. Too bad there is no 0 stars rating..Version: 1.0.0

Not workingHow annoying is to use this app. And at the end did not transfer a single image. Why bother? Fujifilm have you done any testing on it?.Version: 1.0.1

Excessive location permissionsFuji want to know my precise location at all times - even when I’m not using the app. I’d be okay with “Allow while using”, but this is excessive, and can’t possibly be required for me to shoot remotely and download photos from the camera. You can’t use the app without granting these permissions, so I won’t be using the app at all..Version: 1.0.2

Excitement turns to despairI was really excited when I saw Fuji were launching a new app for their cameras. Let’s be honest the previous version was hopeless so I thought greeT they have listened to feedback and are fixing it. I downloaded the app today paired it with my x-s10 and thought I’d test the photo acquisition function. Guess what, it doesn’t work. So I have little faith again. Fuji makes beautiful cameras but needs to have a different approach to app development..Version: 1.0.0

Improvements Marred by Privacy ConcernsPursuant to the recent acquisition and operational testing of XAPP, I find myself compelled to make several observations. The application exhibits superior performance vis-a-vis its antecedent, the erstwhile Fujifilm application, particularly with respect to ease of connectivity and the integration of novel features such as film simulation and lens metric visualisation. However, the application's non-negotiable stance on continual location data accrual raises substantial apprehensions regarding potential violations of privacy, thereby contravening principles of proportionality embedded within data protection frameworks. In light of these observations, I submit that it is incumbent upon the application's development team to undertake immediate remedial action. Absent such rectifications, the continued utilisation of the application may indeed be subject to significant limitations..Version: 1.0.3

Almost malwareGlad Fuji decided to finally update the Remote Camera App. The x.app is definitively an improvement. Not that is an achievement given how awfully useless the previous app was. I give the new app 3 stars because the camera setting back up function is a blessing, but only because the built in capacitor on Fuji bodies will dies after few years and the settings get reset if the camera is not used for periods of time. However, the x.app is a malware and will only work if you expose your privacy settings wide open (precision tracking, notifications, etc) even if these features are not used. This is bad dev practice and just outright patronising..Version: 1.0.1

CrashWhenever I use the XT3 with the iPhone 15 Promax, the app crashes when I use the remote control. Could you please provide some information? Fujifilm is an amazing company, but they are unable to create a great app, which is very frustrating. On the positive note, the file transfer is working well and quickly. The version is the 1.2.1(1) Firmware is 5.01.Version: 1.2.1

No raw support? Really?Just switched to the Fuji system after using Canons for for over a decade. I have been able to transfer raw files from my Canon 6D since it came out in 2012. Very disappointing to find I can only transfer jpgs with Fuji! Aside from that I quite like the app. Easy to use and has some nice features..Version: 1.1.0

Sharing our locations all the time! The app is great, but I’m not happy with sharing my location all the time with FujiFilm and shorting my batteries. Thank you for other features and functionality..Version: 1.0.3

I’d love to review the app, but…So I have an X-H2, the firmware is updated, my phone is literally touching the camera, the app is connected to the camera on Bluetooth, then I hit the black button that brings up the camera functions and is supposed to show the photos, but…the connection fails. I have restarted the camera and reconnected, still fails to maintain connection. I have restarted the app and the camera, still fails. I have restarted the phone AND the app AND the camera, still fails. So it’s tough to make a review other than to say the app doesn’t work with one of your newest cameras and the newest firmware. If I could give it zero stars I would. Also I wasn’t thrilled about the location service stuff, but it seems like plenty of people are crushing that so I’ll just stick with the app doesn’t work..Version: 1.0.3

Location setting not required but still lackingIt seems they’ve heard the community and updated their app to not require location tracking. This is a step in the right direction but sadly they’ve only moved back to being at a neutral position from a taking a step backward in quality. For me, the live camera control is still lacking significantly. I can’t control timer settings or interval settings. As a self-portraitist these are vital. The lack of control in the app renders it useless as I still have to operate from the camera directly. In short, the app has gone from “bad” to “meh.”.Version: 1.1.0

Epic FailOh dear, where to start. Well, firstly it only works in portrait mode, so this is useless for the iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard. Secondly, it demands ALL the permissions, and won’t work without - permanent location tracking is particularly annoying. Thirdly it can’t do the one single thing I need it to - shoot tethered. I just want to be able to shoot a photo and then check it on the iPad. No dice. You can only use it as a remote, which makes the camera go dead and hands control to the app, and image quality is poor. I had high hopes, but this is a dud. On the plus side, connecting to my XH2 was easy enough, hence the second star. But unfortunately this app is functionally useless..Version: 1.0.2

Stopped workingAfter using this app for a few days it now only downloads an image at two before it just stops and gives me a spinning circle. And it seems that the firmware update to the X-T3 may have made it so the old camera remote app no longer works. So now I am unable to load images onto my iPad. This is awful. I watched the app gradually slow down after downloading a number of images and now it’s one or two and freeze. I have to force stop the app, turn off my camera and remove the battery to unfreeze everything. Then I can start over and download one or two more images before it happens again. Update: I think the reason it stopped working was because my iPad was warning me that the app was requiring full time location tracking. I had to confirm that I was aware of it before the app would download pictures properly. This is garbage. I think I will be getting an SD card reader. Based on the majority of the reviews, this was a horrible decision by Fujifilm. At a minimum I will have to turn location tracking on to download images and back off when done..Version: 1.0.2

Insists on location even even when not in use.The app will not allow you to use it unless you allow it to track you (precisely) all the time. It absolutely does not need this feature to do its job. It connects and transfers images better than the useless previous app but I refuse to give it tracking permission so I have to keep turning that off after I load images. Total pain and shame on Fuji For insisting to track even when not in use..Version: 1.0.3

PrivacyI just spent 6 grand on a camera and lenses and you won’t let me use your app unless you track my location at all times? Fix this..Version: 1.0.3

The fixed the location thingI changed the one star review, to 3.Version: 1.1.0

App needs fixing! It's a constant battle to connect to the camera to download a few images. Consistently crashes when trying to load jpeg thumbnails. Does not work at all if there is an HEIF image on the SD card. You can do better, Fujifilm!.Version: 1.0.3

Xt-2?I’m very disappointed that I can’t use my xt-2 with this app :(.Version: 1.2.1

Forced location surveillanceUnfortunately there’s currently no way to use this app without Location Services set to Always. Until this changes, and Fujifilm respect users privacy, I won’t be using it..Version: 1.0.3

No raw and constant gps requiredPretty disappointed with the app it looks better than previous Fuji app yet it’s a bit limited offering no raw support and why the constant need for gps ? Both need sorting.. gps needs to be while using app and raw file support needs adding. I’ve found i sometimes have to mess around re adding the camera to the app yet maybe that’s due to me turning off gps and back on before using the app… in two kinds of deleting it and just use a card reader instead..Version: 1.0.3

Invasion of privacy and lacking basicsPretty close to being great, but missing vital bits. Like, if I’m shooting in portrait, the view on my phone is still landscape - why can’t it turn sideways to fill my screen? I can’t zoom in to check focus until after the shot is taken. Both MVP features. But the main issue is that it requires allocation services to be always on, even when not using the app. That’s just a security risk I’m not willing to take, and shame on Fuji for requiring it completely unnecessarily..Version: 1.0.3

Not so goodDownloaded the new app today but discovered that it works solely with Bluetooth- so if you have an XPro 2 you’re left out ! No Bluetooth only Wifi available on XPro2 So that was a waste of time..Version: 1.1.0

Requires Location Sharing ‘Always’In order to use this app at all, it requires you to allow location sharing set to ‘always’. Even if you don’t want to use this app for geotagging, you still need to continually share your location with it, otherwise you are stuck on the configuration screen and the app does not function. There is no reason the app should continually need location access (except for geotagging). This is an unacceptable practice and should be fixed..Version: 1.0.2

Requires precise location all the time and full access to all photosThis app is horrible. It will not let your proceed unless you provide the app full access to your precise location ALL THE TIME and full access to ALL photos. This is a massive invasion of privacy and major concern in the event of a data breach. Fujifilm should be ashamed of this data grab. Avoid this app. Do NOT update your camera’s firmware just to use this app..Version: 1.0.3

App works, give us a darkmode please.Never understood the negative reviews about connectivity issues; this and the old app has never given me problems. What I don’t like is the fact that I MUST give the app my PRECISE location ALWAYS, just in order to use it. It makes no sense to me and is pretty irritating, given I don’t care to utilize any location syncing and if I did… why can’t I just give the general location? Anyway… All I want is to transfer photos from camera to phone, I don’t care about all these extra invasive features. And I say invasive because it’s mandatory to have my location being tracked in order to use the app. That’s ridiculous to me. Also, if we could have a darkmode option, the app would be much better to use at night, and be more appealing in general for people like me that prefer dark mode as their system setting..Version: 1.0.3

Fix location promptUpdating my review. It took longer than it should have, but Fuji updated the location usage to allow the app to be used without it enabled. Frankly it shouldn’t have passed Apple’s review in the first place, but I’m glad they listened to customers and updated it. App works pretty well now, but still have occasional bugginess - for instance, firmware update occasionally just fails for no discernible reason. Otherwise a decent app with good functionality. - - - - Original: App works well, but there is zero reason that Fuji needs to ask for location “always” - users should not be forced to share location to use the app at all..Version: 1.2.0

Better but still needs workThis app is far better than the old Fuji app. Much easier UI, more reliable connection to camera for photo transfer and remote view. And important small improvements like being able to set the geotag location update frequency and embed timezone data. Two big issues that still need addressing: - It’s still not possible to transfer RAW files over wifi. The single biggest factor in letting me use my Fuji camera more is easily getting photos onto my phone. I shoot in RAW+JPG and really want to be able to quickly send the pairs to my phone. - Geotagging requires me to open the app on my phone to initiate a connection, and periodically relaunch it to keep it alive. Other cameras like Sony are able to connect to the phone in the background without manually launching the app. It would be a useful improvement if the Fuji camera/iOS app behaved this way..Version: 1.1.0

No wired connectivityPlease give us the capability to do everything wired instead of wireless. Same features but wired instead of wireless.Version: 1.0.2

Needs raw capabilityApp works. Does as expected. Some spelling/grammar issues however. THE BIGGEST MISTAKE BY FUJI IS NOT ALLOW FOR RAW TRANSFER! I know it might take forever from the camera but it’s worth it..Version: 1.0.3

About timeFinally you’ve done it, FujiFilm. I can’t give you 5 stars, but 4 is well deserved. While I can connect and transfer photos from my X-T30, the app is pretty much useless to use with my X-T100 Bayer sensor camera and I don’t think you should dare to tell us to use the awful CameraRemote app. Yet, you have an audacity to do… Fix it please and drop an old app. PS I have to downgrade my review to 3 stars after all…. Why do you require a location to be on?! Why overcomplicate simple things instead of giving an option, FujiFilm? And again, why do you discriminate against owners of lower grade models such us my X-T100 with a Bayer sensor? You tell us to use an old app which you know don’t work….Version: 1.0.2

Useful but needs workPerforms some useful functions and definitely better then nothing, however the photos import to your phone in reverse date order, so my iPhone camera roll has batches of Fuji photos in reverse date order which is very annoying. The app should import photos in order of increasing date/time so that it is consistent with the existing phone camera roll photos. In addition, phone GPS sharing with the camera only works so long as the phone/app is open. As soon as you lock the phone it stops working which is a pain. I also dislike the (lack of) privacy approach taken by this app, since it forces all users to give “always” location access to even just open the app, yet many app functions don’t require location. So they should just disable specific features, not the entire app, if a user doesn’t want to share location..Version: 1.0.3

Disappointing privacy choicesFujifilm’s XApp looks like it holds a lot of promise, with many improvements over the old Can Remote app. Unfortunately it refuses to work unless you allow it permanent access to your location, your entire photo library, and to send notifications. It’s disappointing that Fujifilm has chosen this path, rather than allowing users to make their own choices regarding privacy..Version: 1.0.3

Simply does not work. This app would not work with my recently updated X-T5 . The camera was actually communicating with either my iPhone 13max pro or my 12.9 iPad Pro. Both transfer photos with the Fujifilm cam remote app but not with this app. The Cam Remote app is almost seamless. This X app just isn’t anything. Deleted..Version: 1.0.3

No RAW support is a major let downAs someone who doesn’t bother with JPEG, I’m shocked that this app doesn’t allow for RAW file transfer. So it takes a long time - isn’t that for the user to decide? As someone who travels a lot and wants to edit/backup RAW files on the road, using Lightroom on the iPhone, this is a major letdown. Please update this!.Version: 1.2.0

Location permission requirement is excessiveThis app works well, but the requirement to allow the app to always know your location is a no go. Why do fujifilm wants to know where i am all the time? I need to turn itnon each time i want to use the app and turn it off after each use. It is a huge issue privacy wise..Version: 1.0.3
