Collins Italian-English for Positive User Reviews

Loving this app.I am reasonably fluent in Italian, but find that I need to look up some more obscure words and verbs. I always find the word I am searching. I also love that total verb conjugations in every tense can be found on the page to the right (swiping left to return to the dictionary)..Version: 2.8

Collins Italian-English DictionaryThis product is just incredible. Comprehensive, detailed and just packed with words and derivations - worth 3 times the price..Version: 0

First-rate ResourseThis is a first-rate resource for the serious student of the Italian language, well worth the money. The recently released new version has increased its value. I especially like being able to bookmark my daily words for later review, and being able to see verb definitions and conjugations next to each other. It's expensive, but worth it if you are trying to learn the language as opposed to getting by on a trip..Version: 2.3

I Definitely Get My Money's WorthI use this app multiple times every day and really pleased with it. I like that it keeps track of my search history and allows me to keep a running list of words that I want to review. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that there are times when the definition of an Italian word is incomplete because it doesn't include all of the common synonyms..Version: 2.7

Collins Italian DictionaryExcellent in every way, with words, ability to hear every word pronounced, extensive descriptions of words and their meanings and uses, verb conjugations with translation. Also, unexpectedly, the ability to search the web for transactions of words not listed in the dictionary. Excellent value for money..Version: 2.9

ExcellentI was looking for a comprehensive Italian - English dictionary, after looking around at others I went for this one and was not dissapointed. It is worth every penny. The verb conjugation section is an added bonus too. Highly recommended..Version: 0

Fabulous!It all works brilliantly with a 3GS..Version: 0

I use it every dayIs an excellent product for my needs. I think it worths every cent I spent..Version: 0

Excellent appI've been a satisfied user of the Collins Italian-English for years and the latest update makes it even better!.Version: 2.3

Excellent Italian English dictionary appI use this dictionary app all the time. It not only defines the words but also often gives them in example sentences..Version: 2.6

Best Italian to English dictionaryThis is a great app. Easy to use and provides phrases and idioms related to the particular word..Version: 2.6

Worth every cent and moreFirstly, I don't work for Collins or anything like that. I have bought both the Italian/English and the German/English dictionaries and they are brilliant. The ability to click through from any work to look up its meaning or see its conjugations (in all tenses) is great. I use and study multiple languages in the course of my work and these products (together with mental case flash cards (I don't work for them either)) make my study so much more portable and effective. If you're thinking about it, just do it! I love 'em. Ok... I'm a geek. So what!.Version: 0

Best dictionary/conjugatorWith several updates under its belt it puts Oxford to shame. Would get 5 stars if you could save and organize words (history is nice, but doesn't go far enough). Hey, icon could use a reworking, too (psssss—it's really not good!)... Otherwise, good job, guys!.Version: 0

Additional assistance would make this perfectThe only thing missing are tips on when to use which verb tense in the conjugation section. I wish it would say something like "use the passato prossimo when you are talking about something that happened in the past", with an example, etc..Version: 1.5.1

Italian StallionA bit pricey but it's loaded with all kinds of goodies. Does the usual definitions but is packed with slang and usage terms. For example, the word "fare" means to make/to stay in Italian. Well, wouldn't you know, "to go shopping" makes use of this verb? It's just the way they say things over there, lol, and this app pretty much captured that essence. However, there is no audio option, so we cant HEAR the word by a native speaker. Thus you only get four stars..Version: 1.4.3

BrilliantEven better than before upgrade..Version: 2.3

Worth the money, replaces many heavy booksI was reluctant to spend the money, but you get what you pay for. This is an outstanding app, it has a deep database and you will leave your dictionary, phrase book and verb conjugation book at home when going to class or traveling (no need for an internet connection either). Accurate translations, many idiomatic expressions given along with definitions. Good for advanced students, and beginners will learn and grow with the program. And if you carry your phone, you always have it with you!.Version: 0

ExcellentWorth the price. Nice to have access to a detailed offline language resource while traveling. Lots of helpful information for someone serious about learning a language. I especially appreciate the conjugations. I had a problem with the "speak" function, but sent an email to support and got a prompt and helpful reply. Turns out that "speak" doesn't work in silent mode(my default mode), so I turned on the ringer and it works fine. Probably not an app for those who just want to learn a few survival phrases for occasional travel. But for those who want to dig deeper it is excellent..Version: 2.6

MrA fantastic app for those serious about learning Italian. Avoid cheaper dictionaries because you'll be frustrated by the number of words you cannot look up - I've not had such a problem with this app. As well as extensive vocabulary it includes all the verb conjugations- I cannot stress how important this is once you get to more complex / less common verb forms (subjunctive, historic past etc.). I'm not sure what the other reviewer means about lack of search / browsing, there's a good search facility and you can add words to favourites. I just wish I could use this dictionary in the book store app on my iPad! This dictionary has been a life saver, a physical book would be huge an impractical to lug around to lessons and abroad. A huge thumbs up!.Version: 2.4.2

Brilliant, simple, powerfulExcellent app, very slick and nicely developed. It is somewhat pricey but honestly if you're serious about learning Italian it seems worth it to me! Things I like... - fast and intelligent searches which even second guess bad spellings, and suggest a match in either language. - click on any word in any description and you jump straight to that word's description in either language. - full verb conjugations available with each verb. Something I'd like to see... - audio pronunciations, including verb conjugations. - maybe a section offering a little help with some basic grammar..Version: 2.4.2

WorthyVery good dictionary, use it almost every day, very rarely I couldn't found a word..... worth the price!.Version: 1.4.3

Got my money's worthI am an advanced beginner Italian student student who just spent a couple of months in Italy and used this app every day. I used the dictionary and verb conjugation functions but didn't see any utility for the numbers section. I would have prefer to see a quicky grammar chart or maybe a liitle almanac in its place. I agree that audio would have been great. But as long as you know what syllable is accented, Italian pronunciation is pretty straight forward..Version: 1.4.3

Great! definately worth the moneyExcellent search capacity, user friendly, has all the conjugations as well, really an excellent app which easily transplants a conventional dictionary. In fact two, a dictionary and book of verbs. I thought at first it was expensive but it has proved itself extremely worth it and would recommend it highly..Version: 1.4.3

For studentsThis is a great tool for anyone learning Italian. It is on your iPhone, ipad when you need it. I recommend it and use it pretty much everyday..Version: 2.3

Very good and intuitiveHave this now for 4 weeks and is a great help. Forget paper dictionaries , they have had their time. This is quick, works both ways ( English to Italian and vice versa). Crashes on the odd occasion ( iPhone 5).Version: 1.5.4

Love this! Needs retina display upgrade! This is the best dictionary on the market, hands down. It easily deserves five stars. My single qualm is that it hasn't been updated for the retina display. Is an update coming soon? Thanks!.Version: 0

Iconic!I like the new icon!.Version: 2.8

Very good but room for improvementUsed this on a trip to Italy having done a basic Italian course, on an iPhone 4. Reasonably intuitive, at its best when you find the word you want and it gives you a half dozen useful phrases you can use. Three sections (dictionary, grammar and numbers), dictionary and grammar should be integrated but they are not (so a word in a future tense will be not found by the library, and if you are in the tenses section you will not find a noun) likewise English and Italian should be integrated as you switch from one to the other. Room for improvement in menu vocabulary, lots of names of food not found. Nevertheless well worth the investment, you can use it all day without running down the battery and it is much better than carrying around a big dictionary..Version: 0

My constant companion. The reason I use this dictionary constantly is that I can key in a word in any tense of an irregular verb and it comes up with an answer. I have field tested this app three times, on the ground in italia. It's never let me down. Grey..Version: 0

Replaced my paper editionI use this every day for reading and translation. As a language geek who has Italian as a first foreign language with nearly five decades of study, I don't know of a better Italian-English dictionary. Combined with the Hoepli all Italian dictionary app, all my needs are met..Version: 2.6

PerfectThis app is perfect for my needs. On holiday trying to improve my Italian and you can't think of a word and it's the easiest thing in the world to look up. Verbs are easy to conjugate and you can translate any number directly. It has a very functional and good looking interface too..Version: 2.6

Great app! Only one suggestion...I love this app! It is extremely comprehensive, easy to navigate, and best of all -- doesn't require a wifi connection! The only suggestion I have is to incorporate audio so that we can hear the words pronounced by a native speaker. I know Collins has another app with this function, but it would be great to have it incorporated in a single app so that you don't have to switch between the two. I would gladly pay more for such an in-app upgrade! Thank you!.Version: 1.4.1

A good DictionaryI bought as I have been using a Collins hard copy dictionary. Good features in translating from Italian include offering the infinitive of verbs when say 1st person conjugation offered and offering the preposition for the form of preposition+definite article (eg typing delle brings up di, with the details of di including all the combinations). It includes main conjugations and tenses of verbs, although missing some of the more obsure conjugations. Overall I recommend for anyone studying Italian..Version: 0

Best dictionary app I have used!Amazing, conjugation tool is very useful and you can search by the conjugated verb. Recommended!.Version: 1.4.1

Excellent!I use it constantly and it does everything I need it to. Never had a problem and I’ve been using it for several years..Version: 2.7

Great app!It was great before, but the update is even better. Especially the combined conjugation/dictionary search..Version: 2.3

Pricey but worth itThe price is justified by the very high quality of this app. Living in Italy, often without 3G, it has proven invaluable to me - want to know a word? Look it up instantly, all offline, you can store favourites, everything is clearly defined with example phrases and full conjugations. Great app.Version: 2.6

Ideal resourceJust starting to learn Italian and I am finding this a superb resource with pronunciation verb forms and useful phrases. I can highly recommend this app..Version: 2.6

Response to anyone who has the same view as the negative post.Apps are not the be all to end all. As an Italian can I tell you most translations or works from books are from non Italian background people. That is they Learnt italian Themselves. Too many times I see misspelled words. The other thing to think of some authors also use random dialect words because that is what they were taught. On a positive note you are right there bare many methods now on the internet to find the answer for free. But what if you don’t have access to the web?.Version: 2.8

ExcellentWorth every penny. Would not survive without it!.Version: 2.4.2

Great appThis app is a must for anyone wanting to learn Italian on the go!!.Version: 1.5.1

Does all I needOne of the rare applications which I want to review and praise. It does all I want from the dictionary * No subscription necessary - one-time purchase model * Huge database of words * Maps grammatical forms back - plural to singular, verbs to infinitive form, allowing one to search for the word as written, which is priceless for irregular verbs * Works offline * Provides conjugations for verbs.Version: 2.10

Highly usefulWhile not always easy to switch between parts of the program once having used it for an extended period of time not really an issue I’ve used the program> 4 years and I find the extensive usage of words and idiomatic phrases very helpful As someone who learned italian at an older age it is a very valuable resource right in my pocket don’t have to go on the internet to get info rapidly especially when I’ve forgotten how to use a word Phrase pronunciation good tool also going back to Italy this summer for 14th time and I always bring my iPhone for reference when needed JJ.Version: 2.8

Very useful for daily life in ItalyComprehensive dictionary that also provides conjugations. I love that it saves to your phone's memory so the content remains available off line. This was money well spent..Version: 2.6

Great app, with one little issueThis is easily the best Italian dictionary app. A lot of care was put into making the interface clean and intuitive. The only issue is that it's clumsy to close definitions. You open a definition by tapping on the word, but to close you have to click on a little "arrows" button on the other side of the screen. The definitions also stay open forever, so after awhile a bunch of definitions are open. I'd expect them to be closed automatically at some point, like when you open the app..Version: 2.4.2

Excellent source for ItalianThe app takes the place of several other apps and is easy to use. Worth the money!.Version: 2.9

A must haveThis App makes living in Italy much easier !.Version: 2.8

AmazingAmazing- need I say more?.Version: 0

Good dictionaryWhat we've used in Rome. Good for words, could be better with phrases (but then it's a dictionary)..Version: 2.3

Great dictionary and conjugates verbs too!I've completed 2 years of university Italian courses and can speak and understand it at an elementary level. I found the paper back Collins Italian dictionary and 501 Italian Verbs (Luciani) indispensable. The ability to search for the word in the dictionary portion of the app, then tap on the word to see a pop up that lets you choose between dictionary, tenses, and google, is pretty slick. Some may think it adds an extra step, but I like it. If I had one complaint it's that the app doesn't retain the current word you search for when switching between dictionary and tenses. For example, you search for andare in the dictionary portion, then you check the conjugation of the word and while you're in the tenses section, you search for another verb. Now while looking at the new verb you decide to switch back to dictionary to check for meaning, but you'll find the previously looked for word (andare). It would be nice if they included a list of recently searched words to this, but overall, the functionality and quality is pretty darn good. And a heck of a lot easier than carrying two books..Version: 1.3.3

Excellent - comprehensive and easy to use. Ideal for studying Italian (or English)It's comprehensive and easy to use. I also have a number of dictionaries on my PDA and this is by far and away the best in terms of visual presentation and ease of use. Along with a the translation of the word, it also gives lots of examples of how to use the word, or alternative expressions - so it's especially valuable for people wanting to translate into the second language (whether that's Italian or English). It's absolutely full of idioms and useful expressions. This dictionary is comprehensive enough to take someone studying Italian or English through to an advanced level, at which point you'd be looking to buy a monolingual dictionary (I'm hoping that Ultralingua will have an Italian monolingual dictionary by then!). The 'lemmatized' search works really well and is extremely useful (eg type in 'va' and it recognises that it comes from 'andare', or 'fosse' from 'essere'). It's also really good at drawing attention to 'false friends'. In general it deals well with the differences between British and American English. This is definitely *not* the electronic version of the Collins Gem pocket dictionaries - it is a lot more comprehensive. At this price it's really good value. To comment on the point about the 'issues'. The dictionary takes a bit more than 3 seconds to open, which is a a second or so more than my PDA dictionaries. Search feels pretty snappy to me - although a bit slower if you're listening to music at the same time. The ability to click on a word in the definition and look up its conjugation or look up a synonym is a bit hit and miss (often the dictionary tries to find an Italian word in the English section of the dictionary); but as no other dictionary that I've seen offers this feature it's not exactly a dealbreaker..Version: 0

Great and useful dictionaryIt is a good dictionary ,easy and convinient to find all the tenses and words you need..Version: 0

Extremely intuitive layoutSo easy to use. Looking up a word never feels like a faff.Version: 2.9

ExcellentI use it for Italian. Very good examples of usage for every word. Pity it doesn’t clarify that lui and lei are in common usage but that egli and ella are strictly the correct third personal pronouns to use with verbs in a literary context..Version: 2.9

GreatThis dictionary has proved invaluable to me. I use it all the time. I love to have all the tenses at hand, although I only use a few!.Version: 2.6

ExcellentJust an idea to save time is having the verb information translatable too!.Version: 1.5.4

A great toolHaving moved here from Italy, I still need to look up words all the time..Version: 2.9

The BestThis is definitely the best translation app. It's so quick, extremely powerful, and easy to use. In regards to the current version I would say positively that it is really easy to use and navigate, really intuitive. I think the icon is fine by the way! The only suggestions I have at this time would be to change the animation of "Italian-English" that occurs when u press the switch button to the simpler style from a few versions ago. Also, just saw that Diotec has a translation app the included flash cards. It would be very nice to see that integrated in this app so that all the power of the app would be linked with the cards. I have this app because I am speaking and learning Italian and I am always looking for an easy way to do flashcards but can't find it. Thanks for everything!.Version: 0

The best Italian English dictionary with audio. As a polyglot, I love these dictionaries, especially the conjugation and audio features. It gives you tens-of-thousands of sample sentences which gives you more to study just flipping through the app than all of Babel’s content combined. To the Collins team, please give us our flag design back. I now have trouble recognizing them, also the simple Italicized ‘A’ does not stand out..Version: 2.8

Awesome tool for students of ItalianI have studied Italian for many years, read many books, and purchased many dictionaries, verb conjugators, etc etc. I have the Collins interactive dictionary on my Kindle, and it is great, but a bit compendious at times to switch between it and the book I am reading. This is faster to use even though on a separate device. Now, the next time I travel to Italy I can use only this! The verb conjugations are excellent and the possible uses, translations and idiomatics are all there! It does not need a WiFi feed in order to use it either. Plan to purchase the French one as well!.Version: 2.6

Great app!Traveling in Italy for three weeks has given me plenty of opportunity to use this app. Having some proficiency in Italian I have found it very useful for learning new words and verbs. The swipe function makes it very easy to switch from vocabulary to conjugations. I'm looking forward to discovering other features that I haven't used yet. A VERY GOOD APP! Well worth the money..Version: 2.7

Very impressedI've always been very impressed with this app. I think the latest version is even better. I really like the ease in which one can move around the app. For example, tapping on a verb brings up a conjugate option. Clicking on at opens a verb table, with further option to easily change the tense. Nice extras like font choice are great as well. Well done! I currently have the Italian and German dictionaries, and will be buying more..Version: 2.3

Extensive Vocabulary & Wonderful FunctionalityI have moved to Italy for studies. In the process, I am learning Italian. I bought this dictionary app after having the opportunity to use a couple of print dictionaries by Collins with which I was impressed. This app has surpassed my expectations and is easily worth the cost. I have now been using the dictionary app for a month while participating in intensive italian language learning programs. Besides having an extensive vocabulary, the app is very user friendly with exceptional functionality..Version: 2.4.2

Ottimo!Il mio primo e anche solito dizionario che mi accompagna a tutte le mie avanture italiane..Version: 2.7

Worth it.Worth the money..Version: 2.9

The most useful language app for the iPhoneI've been using a number of iPhone apps to help me learn Italian. By far the most useful and effective is Collins Pro. The dictionary is quite large: I've only been unable to find one or two obscure words since I've been using it. The at-a-glance conjugation tables are fantastic. And when I was learning numbers, the quick number pad was a brilliant help. The best thing about Collins Pro, though, is the huge number of usage examples listed for most words. Almost every time I use it, I learn a lot more than I set out to learn. And to top it off is the ability to tap a word on a definition page and be taken to its definition or conjugation--and come right back with the browser-like "back" button. I use this app every day. It's worth more than I paid for it..Version: 0

Simply FANTASTICThis app is indispensable for me. The new design took me only five minutes to get used to. I use it for English/Italian and am impressed at the numerous everyday examples that are given to find just the right word or phrase. Incredible value!!! Thank you Ultralingua!.Version: 2.3

ChrisMA complete novice but finding this app extremely useful especially for conjugating verbs. Easy to use. Recommended..Version: 2.6

Quite convenientThe vocabulary is good, and the greatest part is that it provides Italian mode and present list according to the certain word you refer..Version: 0

Such a great app, but dark mode is awfulHow do I turn dark mode off?.Version: 2.10

A Good reason to own an iPhone! This is a great app and works very well. I love the interactivity. It beats carrying around a dictionary and verb conjugator book..Version: 1.4.3

IndispensableI bought the Italian dictionary for iPad a few years ago and it has been well worth it. Very rarely do I fail to find what I'm looking for, and it's simple to go from one reference to another, unlike leafing through pages of a book. It even gives a spoken version of a word to clarify pronunciation. Very useful, highly recommended..Version: 2.6

Fantastic Italian dictionaryThe verb conjugation feature is very useful. I also like that it gives examples of a word in phrases. This is my favourite Italian dictionary that I've bought so far on the app store!.Version: 0

Bad updateI paid for the excellent Collins dictionary (last version) and now have a poorer version since the update. What happened to the subjects Lei and Loro in the conjugation tables? I know they're the same as lei and loro but no need to abandon them..Version: 2.3

Brilliant dictionary!!!One of the best dictionaries out there. iOS 7 customisation is great guys. Would love to see some learning option in it. At least ability to add chosen words to flash cards. Over all very good job. Thank you for making my learning easier!!! UPDATE!!! Just had an idea. Wouldn't it look nice if the bottom and top control bars would disappear while attempting to scroll, and reappear when needed ??? Kind of like in safari now!!! Would give us even more to see:) Just an idea guys:) Regards Adam.Version: 2.4.1

Perfetto! Can't fault this App. I have the paper version which at 3kg is a little inconvenient to carry around with me. The wonderful thing about this dictionary is it gives you lots of different examples of word usage including whole sentences and phrases. The e-version has wonderful features like touching any word and it will translate it, conjugate it if it's a verb or do a Google search on it. It has a history of the recent words and a back button to go to recent searches. Would be good if you could delete individual history items but maybe that will come. $60 for the paper version was worth every penny, now $30 for this App is too..Version: 2.6

Great app, but one little thing could make it even betterI can't praise this series of dictionaries too highly - they are perfect for travel and worth every penny. One small request. I also go to language classes and use the grammar section. This is very useful for looking up the conjugation of different tenses but there is one irritation. If you are doing an exercise on, say the passato remoto, every time you look up a new verb the display defaults to the present tense. It would be a smarter app for a smart phone if it remembered the tense that you' d consulted last and defaulted to that, or at least had a preference to do so..Version: 1.5

Love the new interfaceI've been using the Ultralingua apps on iPhone and Mac OS for years and think they are great, easy to use and have a vast wordbank. I liked the old interface, so changing it seemed a bit risky, but using this new interface it feels much more natural and streamlined. Love it. Good work!.Version: 2.3

Simply the BEST!The conjugation feature puts it over the top. This is my fourth it/eng dictionary (the 3previous were for my Palm Pilot)and it certainly is the best..Version: 0

I love itThe ability to hear the words spoken puts this app over another i have that does not. I like to conjugation feature. The phrases are helpful. It's my go-to.Version: 2.7

The real deal!An absolute must for anyone needing a dictionary for travel or reference. It is costly but came in very handy on my recent trip to Italy and saved me from carrying an equivalent bulky dictionary around. Nothing is as thorough an app as this one is..Version: 0

Great appHave never had a problem with it..Version: 2.7

Very helpful learning italianWill identify a conjugated verb and alert you to false friends..Version: 2.9

ComprehensiveEasy to use and contains much useful information such as word usage, idioms and quick links to verb conjugations..Version: 2.6
